What a ridiculously-convoluted, time consuming process for the desktop installation Adobe. Well done Glyn, great LUTs settings.
Yeah it's certainly a bit of a workaround. I'm guessing because using LUTs is so popular, that at some point in the future Adobe will make a change to how we can use them in LR that will make it a whole lot easier.
Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words.
I second this. This process to use a LUT is just asanine.
THANK YOU for this! Months ago I searched endlessly and ultimately didn't find a way to get LUTs into Lightroom. Thank you also for the distinction between Classic and CC! Most people seemed to just do Classic. Well done!
Cheers Pete
Happy new year, wishing you all the best. Thank you so much, very handy tips.
Thank you so much Hoory; Happy New Year to you too
thank you for this in-depth tutorial! they certainly do not make it easy to add luts but when you do it's a game changer! thanks again!!!
Dude, I LOVE YOU!! I was trying to export my luts from VideoLut APP to Lightroom for mobile, you saved, thank you so much!
Perfect! Thank you so much! I saw so many tutorials that only teach you how to do this in Classic. I really needed this :)
A special use case for converting LUTs to profiles in LR is that it makes it possible to swap color channels in LR, a procedure often used in processing of color infrared photos.
To achieve this, you would create a LUT in PS that swaps the color channels, and the proceed as Glyn explains here. I believe that Glyn has a previous video where he explains how to make LUTs in PS.
Absolutely Karsten...thanks again. That video is here: ua-cam.com/video/FFPcqIrY2YQ/v-deo.html
Very useful contribution. Many thanks Glyn!
You're welcome Serge...thanks
You always have the best tips, thanks!
Very kind...thank you
This is exactly the info I was looking for Thanks a lot Glyn
This is great Glyn, will be trying this out tomorrow thank you.

@@glyndewis it worked a treat. Thanks for this, might not always have to jump into Photoshop now.
Thank you for an excellent prez and it'll encourage me to use Profiles/LUTs more often.
That's great to hear Martin, thank you
@@glyndewis Most welcome. A little more proselytizing on the Profile front! ua-cam.com/video/xrt8HYzdHxY/v-deo.html BTW tangentially, I think Masking is the most valuable addition to LR and am using it constantly.

Hey Glyn. I love your videos man. Always learning something new.
I hope you can help me understand the difference between a Lut and preset in lightroom. And does the same apply in other fields such as video.
Thanks a million. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
LUTs were originally designed and used for applying to footage being shot in a Log / Flat format. The LUT could temporarily be applied whilst watching the footage during filming and playback. They then made their way into everyday editing platforms such as Premiere Pro and began to be used as a creative way of colour grading / applying colouring effects to footage...and now stills with them in Photoshop. LUTs are generally a one-click with no direct onward alteration. Presets are a collection of adjustments made in the colour correction section that can be applied and then manipulated to taste.
@@glyndewis Thanks Glyn for the clarification.
Loving this! Thanks, Glyn. I had lots of LUTS that I had to use outside of LR. Doing these one at a time is somewhat brutal, but, hey at least it can be done. What's the primary difference between this and a LR Preset?
Great video! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! Thank you
Just played with this today Glyn, wish I’d used these when I used to do a lot of colour grading. But tried them in Lightroom with my usual mono recipe- what a game changer. Just need to work on my Lightroom selections/masking now.
Glad this has been useful Nick...thanks for taking a look 👍
So there is no way to add a group of LUTs at this time only one at a time? Thank you@@glyndewis

Question, can this process extract the effects in Camera Raw be applied in a LUT in Photoshop? I have designers at my agency that are not supposed to be doing Camera Raw effects, but do. I have to recreate the effects in Photoshop, which can take a bit of time. If this process can be done exporting all effects. This will help me save hours on recreating the look and applying a LUT effect from the Camera Raw creative look that the designers have created. Minus: Sharping and Grain that can be recreate in Photoshop using high pass and Noise.
Hi Joe...Thanks for watching. As for your question, apologies but I'm not sure I understand 100% what you're asking. Are you saying that designers are using Camera Raw to edit and create effects (but they shouldn't) however you're asking if what they do in Camera Raw can be exported as a LUT to then apply in Photoshop?
First of all, thank you for doing this video, Glyn. I really like the presentation. The instructions are clear and succinct. However, I am having a problem with the step at 2:17 in which you have to hold down the Alt(Windows) Option(MAC) key while clicking on Create Preset. A new dialog does not open up. In fact, no dialog opens up and the menu just closes. Is there something missing from my settings? I am using the latest LR Classic, Photoshop, and Camera Raw on Windows 10.
Hi John, thanks for the kind words and for tuning in.
Ok re your question...without pressing Alt do you get the menu appear that includes Create Preset? If you do but when holding down Alt when clicking on Create Preset, it simply closes, I would first try using an alternative key such as CTRL. Failing that it'll need a look in your settings to see if Alt is assigned different in some way. I'll also take a look to see what I find and if I do, I'll let you know.
@@glyndewis Tried all the keys with no effect. However, I got a clue from @nucly. When clicking on the ellipsis I kept the mouse key depressed while sliding the pointer over the Create Preset item. Still holding the mouse key down, I held the Alt key down while releasing the mouse key. This opened up the correct dialog and I could then proceed. Thank you so much for getting back to me. 😀
@@Woojo01 Thnx, That worked
@@Woojo01 Eyy, this one helped me out big time. Was getting mad at Adobe for not letting me create a profile :D
@@Woojo01 oh my god, the fact that this is the answer is ridiculous
Hello Glyn, Thank you for this lesson to import LUTS; however after I did the first one, I'm using a MAC, and I go to load the second one, it doesn't work. I'm holding down the OPTION KEY while clicking on the ellipse I don't get the right popup menu, I get the first popup as if I wasn't holding down the OPTION KEY, with no option to Create Preset. I hope you have a way to correct this. Thank you and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hi Sandy...Don't hold down the Option key when clicking on the eclipse...open the menu first and then holding it down as you click on Create Preset.
Hope that helps but keep me posted.
Happy New Year
@@glyndewis Thank you, yes it helped me get to the right place, however now when I search my folders to load the LUTS they are not enabled; however the are if I just go through finder and find them. This is very confusing.
@@glyndewis if I don't hold the Option Key when clicking on the eclipse I don't get the correct Menu and still my LUT's are not enabled. A mystery!
After creating the profiles for my luts and importing them into lightroom classic, I cannot find them when I want to import them into lightroom cloud (desktop). I went to this folder on Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings and they are not there like in the video
Adley...Just a thought but have you tried using the Finder to search for the LUT you have installed and then seeing what Path it may have put it in, instead?
How can I do this using the LUTs with the LOOK and 3DL file extensions?
Nice one Glyn, never knew this and always wondered if it was possible, I did everything restarted PS and LR, camera Raw PS shows the imported LUT's however after several restarts of LR they are still not showing? very strange why it shows in Camera RAW but not LR, I know you are not Adobe support but I can not find a solution because for so long people have been posting questions about LUT's getting them confused with Presets? and everything I find is about not seeing Presets rather than LUT's which is abut annoying, any ideas? I am using Windows 10 and most up to date LR and PS.
Is that Lightroom Classic you’re restarting or Lightroom?
@@glyndewis Lightroom Classic Glyn, the Desktop :-)
This maybe has to do with your Preferences for the Presets. If you use the Option 'Store Presets with this Catalog' move the XMP-Files from the Folder 'Settings' (as it is shown in the Tutorial) to the Folder 'ImportedSettings' and the LUTs should show up in LR. You also can import the XMP-File via the Preset-Import-Function. LR will identify it as a Profile and put in the right place.
@@s.wickenkamp8770 Cheers for this, I shall take a look however the ones I am importing are .cube files and not XMP files. I'll take a look for that particular folder to see if I can find it and see what is in there. 👍🏻 It's strange how it's so hidden and a long drawn out process to add a LUT .CUBE file into LRC you would of thought Adobe would make it more straight forward and also easier to import every LUT you have rather than one at a time.
Hi I followed the steps in the videos but i’m Having trouble locating the luts when I try to import them into lightroom. I only see the default folders and not the one I created in camera raw. can you help me ?
Thanks for the video! But, what's the difference between LUT and presets??
LUTs are a superb way to colour grade images and video footage. They are primarily from the video world but can now be used in software such as Photoshop where they can also be created. LUTs are able to be used across lots of different software whereas presets can't. The way they work is also unique in that they map to an image as opposed to just drop[ping colour onto if that makes sense. Lots of people download / make / buy LUTs so this video also shows how they can use them in Lightroom.
@@glyndewis this might be a dumb follow up question to this BUT could I use someone's LUT that they made specifically for video? Or do I have to keep an eye of for photo specific LUTs?
Great Vid, Thanks, but I went through the process in camera raw, but they don't show up in lightroom (desktop), I have realised I store my presets etc with my catalog, it seems that camera raw will not do that, so they are both looking at different places, is there a way around this or do I have to change were my presets are ?
Hi Clive...Did you choose to store your presets in a different place? Can you navigate to the folder when you choose to import the LUTs from where they are?
@@glyndewis In lightroom, under preferences I chose to store my presets with my catalog, I use two computers I have my photos on a NAS box and I use a usb SSD drive for my catalog, the aim is to just update / import presets once.
If I change lightroom preferences back to local location I can see the LUTS but have lost some presets
OK, I manually moved them (the xmp files) from appdata/roaming/adobe/cameraraw/settings to the ssd drive /allphotos-cat/lightroom settings/settings and they are there now.
Thanks for sharing but I’m a little confused. Call me dumb! I typically use LUT’s for video in premiere and presets for Lightroom. What is the difference? Thanks
LUTs in Lightroom gives additional colourising possibilities; I have great LUTs that I use in Photoshop BUT some people don't use Photoshop and only use Lightroom OR prefer to color grade in LR so this gives that opportunity.
Some folks have also purchased LUTs in the past...this means they can use them in LR too
Thank you so much for video, it's very helpful!
And i'm shocked how Adobe made it work. This is just insane to install LUT i need to find how to start Camera Raw so i install LUT over there. Then i close it and open LR again. Adobe common!!! This is just insane extra steps for no reason!
Hello, I have a .look file for my LUT how can I go about installing it when it isn’t a .cube?
I did everything exactly but for some reason the xmp files are not showing up in the Settings folder :/ What could I have done wrong? I'm using Lightroom cloud
thanks man but a quistion ?
How to copy this lut to premier cc
Or copy an another drive
In the Creative Section with Lumetri Color, you can just click on Browse
When trying to do this in Lightroom CC my settings folder didn't contain the files I had saved, just folders for presets based on camera manufacturers, such as Apple, Sony, Canon, Samsung, etc. Has Adobe changed how this works on the back end? I promise I followed the instructions to the letter!
Same!! I am having this same frustrating issue. Did you ever get it fixed?
Unfortunately I did not, I had to stop devoting time to it and move on. I ended up just turning the picture profile off while shooting stills (which I wish you could change camera settings to do this automatically when switching to stills mode).
This was almost a year ago though, and I haven't tried since, so it is entirely possible that they've added a patch to address it by now! Sorry I wasn't more helpful, best of luck!@@devpatel2842
FOR WINDOWS users! .....to get the dialogue box to open at 2:30, you need to click the 3 ellipses but keep your mouse button pressed, now drag the pointer (with left mouse button still pressed) over the "create preset" option, then press and hold ALT and then release your mouse button. Ridiculous, but it works!
Very thanks but in lightroom classic 11.1 not appaer the imported LUT. The process to add is right, in photoshop appear all LUT add, but in lightroom nothing. I have start and restart more time, help! thanks
The version 11.1 is the current latest version and that is what I am using in the video. There must be something you're doing wrong I'm afraid. Are you Mac or Windows?

Hi Glyn, I have tried this and successfully added to Camera RAW but when I reopen LrC the LUTs are not appearing in the profile browser ...... very strange ?
Mike...once you install in Camera Raw you then need to do the Alt / Option and click on Create Preset to import them to see them in LrC
@@glyndewis Glyn .......... Have done exactly as per your video and created "Mikes LUTs" in camera RAW, and my saved LUTs are in the profile folder,(in Camera RAW) but this folder is not visible in LrC under the Profile Browser, I can only still see the standard profile list. Camera RAW & LrC are definitely handshaking on my PC, as when I take an image from LrC into PS as a "Smart Object" the LrC adjustments are visible in Camera RAW. Again ............ very Strange ?
@@mikeswoods @glyn dewis same here. Done as per the video but still not showing in LR Classic.
I have the most up to date versions of PS and LR.
Is there no way to import the whole batch of luts using the LUT filename as its name rather than one at a time?
I've not been able to do it like that Kevin (would be great) ... however if I find a way to do it that way OR there's an update which makes it possible, I'll do an update.
Cheers,
Glyn
Since a photo can only have one profile in LR, I suppose you loose the ability to use e.g. any camera specific profiles, as a basis for your edit. Am I right in assuming that the 'profile base' will then be restricted to Adobe Color?
That's a great question Karsten...thanks. To answer it, if you choose a profile first of all such as Adobe Color, Adobe Landscape etc and then go into the Profile Browser and apply one of your LUT's; when you then close it, you'll see that the main profile is shown as the name of the LUT that you applied. If you then change it back to Adobe Color, Adobe Landscape etc, it then resumes the original colour. Hope that makes sense.
Just a question: when I'm in Cam RAW and go to Create Preset, as mentioned in your tutorial, the options disappear as soon as I hit the Alt-key (Windows10). How can I solve this?
Marc...just to clarify...you see the Create Preset option, then hold down the Alt key but the menu closes? Here's an article I found about solving Alt key issues in Windows 10; hopefully this will help:
softwarekeep.com/help-center/how-to-fix-alt-tab-shortcut-not-working-on-windows-10
@@glyndewis Hi Glyn thanks for your answer but it's not a Alt-Tab issue. What I meant is that the menu/window showing p when I click the 3 dots stays open but as soon as I want to select Create Preset disappears when I push the Alt button. Without Alt hold down I can select the menu item Create Preset. If found more questions about this issue and related to Adobe software. For now, with the info I found on the internet you have to make adjustments to your Windows registry to solve that. 😞 And please don't bother to come with a solution because I don't expect you to solve it. I prefer you use your time making nice tutorials 😉 Maybe you can just use your Adobe connections for an answer instead
@@PvdDApeldoorn1 Same happens for me on Windows 10. Found a work around. Press and hold ALT then click 3 dots holding down your left mouse button. Bring curser to highlight Create Preset and release ALT and mouse button. Menu pops up. Hope it helps.

I hope it is not to long winded for you, but basically I have bought a new desk top computer ( I have been using laptops for many years ) and would like to down load light room/photoshop, I have been using light room 6 on my laptop.
Two things I would like to know please is, I also have a new Samsung S21 Ultra mobile is it possible to edit RAW images in lightroom?
