Also featuring an animated potato made by Zykuro back in March! I am not sure how I'm going to use it just yet, but I think it's great and now that I'm back I can play around.
Having to go back to S4 and PoF maps I'm noticing a SIGNIFICANT and ridiculous amount of lag on just those maps, have you been experiencing the same thing WP? It just seems according to the forums that this has been a rather persistent issue for a lot of players for months now, purely in certain S4 and PoF maps, wondered what your take on it was?
Fun fact about the mt maelstrom leg of this quest: I went to the largos at the lava vents before I went to the krait base, and he actually has dialog that points you in the right direction! I thought that was a very nice touch.

And this wasnt "fun" at release. 3 parts of the questline was bugged, and in particular the quaggan event in frostgorge was a nightmare, as it didnt progress and you had to try reset the event by getting the quaggans killed (meanwhile a whole zerg gathered around shooting whatever they can).. and the adventure in the end didnt let you use the skimmer dive - so people had to get gold with other mounts as well and player underwater skills xD anyway, it WAS kinda fun seeing the playerbase and how they handled it (spoiler most people dont cope very well with bugs and them not getting their new shiny thing within 5 mins, just saying..) - in case of the adventure some great coms did live guides and what not, so that part was great ^^
Yeah I tried it out the very hour it released and there were dozens of players in Frostgorge freaking out that they couldn't progress "OMG IT ISN'T WORKING WHAT'S GOING OOOOOONNNNNNN?" "I THINK IT'S BUGGED!!!!" "WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T KILL THINGS!!!!" "HAS ANYONE REPORTED THIS TO ARENANET?!?!" "HEY! I SAID TO NOT KILL THINGS YOU F@#KING IDIOTS" "WHY CAN'T I PROGRESS?" "WHEN WILL IT RESTART?" HAS ANYONE REPORTED THIS TO ARENANET?" "OMG IT'S BUGGED!" I just did other stuff for 6 hours until they fixed the patch. Idk why people spent 6 hours there, they didn't wait until it was fixed 😂😂
When the Traherne Memorial quest came out and we for a brief time went back to the HoT maps, I got excited. While meta heavy, I love those maps. I love going back to maps that didn't have story beats in them, or revisiting places that the community spent a lot of time in. I hope we can do more of that again. It would be interesting if they could do something around the anniversary dates of expansions. Like bonus rewards in HoT or PoF maps during the week anniversary of the expansion. I would include LS maps in that too. LS3 maps needs lots of love
11:27 You can find at least one "Trained Skimmer" during this event! They're also in a cage, which is wild because they fit in there, but it's probably meant to be a juvenile skimmer. Interacting with it gives a brief dialogue along the lines of "Hang in there, buddy, I'll get you out soon."
I'm kinda glad we got the underwater ability on the Skimmer, we have plenty of mounts by now, adding even more would be overkill I think. Let them focus on other big things for EoD

I'm actually excited by the idea of this meaning no underwater mount in EoD, for much the reason you cover. Gliding Was HoT Era, Mounts were PoF era, and I think EoD deserves something new, rather than just being a continuation of PoF. An idea I've seen floating around that I quite enjoy is the thought of a sailing Mastery for the waters around Ahing Jea/Kaineng and perhaps melted parts of Jade Sea. I just found a mailing list of 2014 with a video of yours in. I full on followed you for years for GW2, but haven't played since 2015. Massive nostalgia hit, really glad to see you still having fun :)
I agree with that "riding the skimmer to lions arch" thing. I already am trying to imagine Tyria is way bigger than the gameplay and maps show, so that didn't really help. I often wish the maps were a bit bigger. Sometimes npcs tell you "it's to the north" or "you'll find this west of here" when really you only walk for 1 minute. It was great though seeing all of the bounty squads again and people doing pof events.
Actually...animals have long migratory patterns so the skimmer would easily make it across an ocean the only issue would be the rider who would need to keep hidrated, fed and have propper cover from the elements. but if they figure that part out, easily you could ride a skimmer across large expanses of water. as for the skimmers themselves, its probable they could be adapted to both river and salt water, and you could either carry food for them or they could forrage on their own as they go.
regarding sulphur, the diving specifically only works with with the single body of water that is inherent to every single map. it doesn't work with fake water, sulphur, quicksand, lava, or the dragon blood things in drizzle, since they are all just AoE status effects. further, it doesn't even work when you are on the water surface, but under the main terrain layer of a map. you can still mount the skimmer underwater in such a case, but you cannot transition. on the topic of implications for UW content... i can't say i expect much. it's a QoL update, just like the UW combat update 2 years ago was. people just like to go crazy. it makes the content less tedious, but overall UW combat, etc, still remains a drag and widely unenjoyable. as for EoD masteries, i think they wanted to cover the last really big niche that mounts left open. we already have so much overlap with the existing mounts, and so little key-bind potential left, that i really cannot imagine them expanding on it, though i still expect them to eventually increase the skimmer's UW speed. i also don't think nor hope that a race is going to be EoD's mount equivalent. it just doesn't add enough. we'd just get a new starter are and experience (snore), tons of additional audio that need to retroactively be added, and some new fashion wars potential... on what are effectivel bird-headed charr. you can't sell an expansion on that, especially considering that GW2's expansions so far haven't been all that feature rich to begin with.
Fashion wars on point! Also small details, I love the shadow you added to the potato in the clip art and 3D potato telling us to like and sub! Small touches makes the overall video so much better.
For the maelstrom part of the quest the key is actually a guaranteed drop if you kill the champion at the top of the tower where the vista is so you have options of either killing krait mobs or take on the champion.
Interesting that this collection has you visit the Quaggan, the Largos, and the Krait, aka the three intelligent, amphibious species that were displaced by the Deep Sea Dragon. This collection quest could serve a double purpose, not just to unlock a new skimmer skill that could be useful in a watery expansion, but also as a way to remind us about these three races and get us thinking about them again. The alternative (and far more likely scenario) is it just makes sense to visit primarily underwater races to learn how to make a skimmer swim underwater, but I like my idea more.
Joel was on a recent guild chat, and you might find interesting (might not) that they were toying with the idea of adding mounts abilities to the skill bar for a long time on and off. The actually "Skills" arent actually skills in the traditional sense. Afterall youre not casting a skill when doing the abilities / movement. Though disappointing we have no exclusive mount for underwater, this does make the skimmer a lot more useful than it used to. Most mounts are made obselete by the skyscale but ofcourse that mount cant go underwater! I know a lot of people found the skimmer rather boring in general so this new feature is amazing. Overall nice surprise! Nice little collection. I've also seen a MASSIVE increase in people playing POF and in particular people doing Bounty trains. Granted i got all my XP in a full 1or2 Dragonfalls, but i see a lot of people doing bounties. Lots of friendly commanders about doing additional tasks. Great for ticking off the achievements and masteries if you need it. I for one joined in just for eventual legendaries for elgies i i need for a ring
PS Joel mentioned he came off the expansion team to do this. Joel "The god" who goes poking into the supposedly dead engine, achieves wonders. There was a lot of talk about the moving platforms changes over the years
Personally I don't find other mounts obsolete after the skyscale, the skyscale is pretty slow, it's often faster to use raptor/bunny, (even if the bunny can't jump as high) compared to using just the skyscale alone. I do use the skyscale for things, but it's definitely not my main mount
Love using the jackal! though i admit even im not using most mounts with skyscale existing. Griffon has the advantage in drizzlewood tohugh as you can take the air baloons then dive
I for one am very glad we got the underwater ability for the Skimmer :) I think we already have enough mounts to cover every kind of movement, and I'm excited to see what they'll come up with for EoD masteries :) I do hope that we get another Skimmer mastery tho that lets us use speed bursts underwater maybe? Would be cool^^ Oh and I also hope we'll get plenty of underwater racetracks now :D
When the underwater patch came out, there was a really serious bug with the race at the end of the quest. People were getting dismounted or the "dive" skill was constantly just dissappearing, and so people swam this course without the dive function and mostly without their skimmer. That's why there's not that many people getting top - times on this adventure.
I think diving skimmer gives them possibility to develop some interesting quest line for "real" underwater mount. Something along the lines of Skydrake quest line. People that don't want to invest time or effort (or are simply rushing) can simply use skimmer to move underwater quickly, while coming back for new mount later maybe. I mean there are many mounts that more or less obsoleted other mounts. Skydrake I feel obsoleted springer in many cases, griffon a little bit too. They actually talked in latest stream how they took care so that beetle mount doesn't completele obsolete raptor (speed wise).
21:09 The way lifetime leaderboard works is that it shows a few players in the top positions among your friends/guildies, and then several players around your own score (who may or may not have a rank). You see the person who ranked 367 has a timer of 1:22, and then everyone below him was around WP's score of 1:28 who are all unranked (I think outside of top 1000?). So WP is nowhere near top 300, but still good job :)
I wouldn't mind if in end of dragons if we didn't unlock new mounts, but new expansion specific skins. Riding a saltspray dragon skyscale would be cool.
In my opinion, Mounts are very much a PoF and season 4 specific mastery type; Just like how gliding was HoT's/season 3's big 'thing' that everyone knows about, mounts is PoF's, and I'd certainly hope EoD brings in its own new thing! Having another type of movement would be cool and a solid continuation of the pattern of the previous two expansions, but I would be much more excited if they went ahead and did something completely new and different, but still just as applicable to old content like mounts and gliding are.
I had 3 points and while getting experience i did the lost lore collections and it was fun! I enjoyed doing this even though it was bugged in the beginning.
As for diving into lava, you could try doing that one living story episode where you have to fight the hounds of Balth in that volcano. I think? I remember there being an enormous pit of lava below the platform. I haven't logged in to test it though.
@@AlesterReads Okay, well, thanks for clarifying. I only started paying attention to the game again after the Cantha teaser and just forgot about the mount lock like a big dummy.
I just spent some time pouring over a few maps and I do think riding a skimmer from that part of Elona to Lion's Arch isn't so unrealistic IF she stopped off to camp from time to time. It would be much slower than a boat, but there's enough land along the way to stop and rest up. I can't imagine they mentioned how long she took. From the Istan area it would be much slower and the route would have to be very indirect. Notably neither route would be an option at all during Zhaitan's reign.
The quest is overall done well in the sense that it's not mind-scratchingly difficult to figure out while not spoonfeeding you the next step, all except the step in Desert Highlands where the NPC directs you to a water djinn in the WEST when the Legendary Ellutherius Wintergust djinn bounty is west of the NPC while Zommoros is actually north-west instead. Agreed with adding diving alleviating mount demands for EOD and for the resources to be diverted elsewhere. While making the Tengu the 6th playable race would be nice, I would prefer the resources go to creating Masteries that allow core profession Terran weapons to be used in Aquatic environment and vice versa. That would bridge the oft cited issue of aquatic combat being subpar because the weapon skills lack synergy with the player's usual build.
The thing about you being top 300 is the fact that on launch the adventure was super bugged. It didnt let u use the dive skill on the skimmer so u had to SWIM through the adventure and getting that silver involved alot of buildcraft if u werent on a thief. I personally duod it with a mesmer friend who used 2 portals for me and then used the jackal for the last bit, spamming the teleport skill with the bond thingy that refreshes your endurance fast. As for the XP farm the best way is to do griffon adventures, u wont be able to finish them all in Gold before u fill that bar, its sooo much XP and so much fun as well if u cant be asked to find squads and do meta events. I had a blast going through them all again and getting that gold that I didnt even realised I missed on some of them.
I love that they added a skill to a prexisting mount that didn't require players to buy a Living World episode or something, I sort of wonder now if they will add a fifth skill to the other three core mounts (and what would they be if they did?)
I've realized the main reason the skimmer feels slower underwater is because the skimmer gets a speed boost for gliding across the top of the water, and for whatever reason you do not get that speed boost underwater, I do not know if that was intentional by the devs or an oversight
The way I look at it, maybe the underwater travel offered by the skimmer will be similar to how HoT gliding and PoF flying mounts overlap. Perhaps EoD masteries will still be about water traversal but do that in more interesting/powerful way. The skimmer will now just be a tool that PoF players will temporary have over other players when EoD launches. I always think a windsurfing mount would be interesting.
The lack of people who have done the quest is likely down to just how much of it was bugged on release. The Frostgorge Sound and Orr portions of the chain were borderline undoable for various reasons, and the skimmer race itself was bugged so the dive key didn't appear at all for a lot of players. Some folks managed to get around it and beat the silver timer with speed boosts but I wasn't one of them. Had to wait for the patch.
You can actually talk to Zommoros inside Mythwright Gambit, instead of Miyani. And the reason so few people have completed the race is because it was bugged for 2 days after release, but you could nevertheless complete the achievement without the race
i agree about having to go back to PoF. i didn't have enough extra MP's so had to finish some stuff i had left unfinished once i had no more use for mastery points, but really enjoyed going back and finishing them. as for the future, i hope they don't add a new mount, but wouldn't mind if they gave another mastery to speed up underwater (maybe a charge that doesn't dismount you at the end)... I also wouldn't mind a new mastery for springer just to make it useful again (i basically never use it since the addition of the skyscale)
I wish they would add more weapon types like crossbow or halberd. Maybe make spears usable on land too. As for mounts, Raptors having a charging headbutt would be awesome!
Damn now I need to get a skimmer skin. BTW it feels slow because you are not going as fast as you would on top of the water. It's more like the same speed as using the skimmer over normal ground.
Since they did this with the Skimmer I wonder if instead of making new mounts they could think of new abilities/skills to add to existing mounts, but personally I can't really think of much.
It is an interesting situation we are in, I feel like if the devs wanted to have an underwater mount for EoD that this skimmer mastery is too inaccessible for everyone, especially people just starting to play with EoD, because it is locked behind the PoF story, and it would be a bit awkward to have a much needed underwater mount locked behind a previous expansions story, so either they add another underwater mount or they just aren't going to focus on underwater mounts in EoD, should be interesting to see
Im not sure about sulfur but i do know you can skimmer in the volcanic waters from the ring of fire without taking damage. But if you dive too deep the game will warn that you are leaving an instance and it'll kill you if you stay too deep.
Actually, you do move slower underwater vs above water. When you go underwater you move just as fast as a skimmer would on land. Whether it's intentional or not I'm not entirely sure, I think it was just an overlook
Hey on the skimmer note, 6 guys rowed from South America to Antarctica in 13 days just for the challenge. So a mystical flying manta ray crossing the sea is not too crazy, right?
I'm 100% confident there will be no mount content in End of Dragons. Path of Fire had no need for gliders, or any of the other Heart of Thorns masteries. Cantha should be completable without gliders or mounts, although there may be some bonus for having them. But, if we can find a pattern here, there should be 4 core maps, about 5 mastery lines, and all will be tied to Cantha. What they are, or what all of elite specializations could be, I haven't the foggiest.
I was a bit disappointed that the skimmer got the underwater capability presumably instead of a new mount. Now that I think about it though, it would be a lot easier for player to not have to swap from an underwater mount to a skimmer each time they surface. Also, based on the concept behind the gw2 mounts it makes sense to have as few types as possible so that none will be neglected.
the first few days the adventure was bugged and wouldnt let you dive, so a bulk of the community did it with class skills therefore beeing slower, i guess not many people have gone back to get a better time, thats why you were top300
I really wish they would of made the requirements more clear. Now I have to go through the PoF storyline :/ Would've been perfect to do that up to the update.
Hoping there is more underwater content in End of Dragons. Maybe we will fight the final boss underwater if it goes that far. Underwater content is one of countless features that ArenaNet has abandoned. GW2 has excellent combat mechanics and I definitely miss underwater combat. When they started excluding aquatic weapons from certain weapon sets I worried it was gone forever.
Yeah as a few have said patch was broken for just over a day. You had to contend with zergs at those events and the largos one broke a couple of times but then the skimmer race was completely bugged. Dive didn't work and the adventure kept resetting the ui but would luckily log your time. The entire player Base had to try to get silver by swimming/ skimmering where they could/ mounting. Then you had to try to build your character to make silver. I did think of you back then I must admit. So find a class with underwater swiftness or skills to help, swim Infusions, boosters. I guess people are right now not having done it top 300 because 3/4 of the player Base got it while it was bugged
I wonder if they won't have a mount for EoD for the players that own that expansion, but not PoF. It'd be a bit of a bummer to be a new player, pick up EoD and see everyone running (and swimming) around on mounts that you can't get. Maybe that won't be an issue; just a thought.
A lot of people completed the skimmer adventure by swimming under the water, rather than riding the skimmer, which can barely get the silver. This had to happen because the adventure was bugged and you weren't given the underwater skill for a while after the patch first came out. Prob why so many people have bad times
Easiest was to get XP easily ist just doing Dragonfall, Drizzlewood Coast or Griffon races. No boosters needed at all while also getting some decent farm.
Regarding the Cantha xpac and Skimmer, I think this was done for budgetary reasons. Not creating a new mount, rather integrating underwater functionality onto an existing one saves a lot of dev resources, who no longer need to produce BL skins for a new creature, just keeping into the 7 we already have. They then can concentrate on other aspects. Am I fine with that? I, personally, am. Although I do NOT like the skimmer (manta rays creep me out), I think this works out.
Gave me a reason to finish PoF achievements to get the 8 needed to unlock it for 2 accounts. Then getting 2 million XP running. around Dragons fall btw try swimming in Draconis Mons * note don't dismount the skimmer
Also featuring an animated potato made by Zykuro back in March! I am not sure how I'm going to use it just yet, but I think it's great and now that I'm back I can play around.

Top 300 because us early birds did the adventure when diving was bugged so we had to figure out how to speed-swim and just barely get silver!
Yep, that was me!
Same here!
Yea, early birds had to get silver hardly using the skimmer and swimming with speed buffs... far more OP, get on our level! ;)

Well said!
I'm glad they did it this way, now we can get underwater animal skins without increasing the overall bloat of total mounts.
Riding a saltspray dragon skyscale would be cool.
also some dude on yt did a vid on him diving under in the boiling water at Draconis Mons without dying!!! xD
I'm hoping for boats and or ships.
As this is Season 3 and pre PoF you sadly can't use Mounts in these instances.
Whoa. Like the new animated potato guy. Oh and the video lol. ;)
Regarding diving in the sulphur im unsure however you can dive in the Boiling Sea in Draconis Mons
Love your accent man. American here. I really thought you said that it takes "one meta and a Beer" to get the mount and skills. Lol. Bout right too.
I also wouldn't mind a new mastery for springer just to make it useful again (i basically never use it since the addition of the skyscale)
give the bird skin skimmer a air bubble re-breather skin effect on its head. the animation still wont make sense but at least that bit would be fixed
I mean I've used this skill when it launched, but I'll still watch anything WP posts
I wish they would add more weapon types like crossbow or halberd. Maybe make spears usable on land too. As for mounts, Raptors having a charging headbutt would be awesome!
I took some characters with low amount of extra hero points and did some challenges in POF in preparation for EOD.
I got like 1.2mil grabbing all of the floating magic in Jahai Bluffs with Skyscale (took 2 characters to get daily limit). Was pretty quick.
15:20 Shaods my man, hang in there D:
How do you get the skills on the right side of the HP bar?
Im taking a break from Gw2 ... but I totally recomand this game . Its awesome 👌
What helmet are you wearing in the beginning of the video?
It's an icebrood saga meta event reward, can't remember which exact release!
Whether it's intentional or not I'm not entirely sure, I think it was just an overlook
at 12:00 you said random drop. You can also wait for the champion and get it guaranteed
The hummingbird skin should get an aquabreather when it submerges!
there are little skimmers in the cages in mount maelstrom
The mount seems to be affected by infusion speed
I was a bit disappointed that the skimmer got the underwater capability presumably instead of a new mount. Now that I think about it though, it would be a lot easier for player to not have to swap from an underwater mount to a skimmer each time they surface. Also, based on the concept behind the gw2 mounts it makes sense to have as few types as possible so that none will be neglected.
What was the benefit of this mount before this update?
the first few days the adventure was bugged and wouldnt let you dive, so a bulk of the community did it with class skills therefore beeing slower, i guess not many people have gone back to get a better time, thats why you were top300
OMG,, where did you get that HELM O.o
They should make it so the hummingbird is in a big bubble whilst underwater
You can actually talk to Zommoros himself if you go into the wing 6 before the CA boss :3
I really wish they would of made the requirements more clear. Now I have to go through the PoF storyline :/ Would've been perfect to do that up to the update.
Boiling water does not hurt you while mounted on a skimmer, but you do "out of bounds" die a lot.
you can use the skimmer under boiling water in Draconis Mons
FYI there were skimmers in cages
Also I was kinda hoping to get another underwater mount. It could have been a shark, dolphin or even a salt dragon
Omg what is the name of that weapon you can see him holding in the beginning?
Should be the Seven Reapers GS weapon skin wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Seven_Reapers_Greatsword_Skin
I use that gs skin too on my reaper such a good necromancer skin
Hoping there is more underwater content in End of Dragons. Maybe we will fight the final boss underwater if it goes that far.
Underwater content is one of countless features that ArenaNet has abandoned. GW2 has excellent combat mechanics and I definitely miss underwater combat. When they started excluding aquatic weapons from certain weapon sets I worried it was gone forever.
There are skimmers in the cages around her
Yeah as a few have said patch was broken for just over a day.
Maybe that won't be an issue; just a thought.
thank you for more videos \o/
A lot of people completed the skimmer adventure by swimming under the water, rather than riding the skimmer, which can barely get the silver. This had to happen because the adventure was bugged and you weren't given the underwater skill for a while after the patch first came out. Prob why so many people have bad times
Easiest was to get XP easily ist just doing Dragonfall, Drizzlewood Coast or Griffon races. No boosters needed at all while also getting some decent farm.
What is that outfit he’s wearing?
Regarding the Cantha xpac and Skimmer, I think this was done for budgetary reasons. Not creating a new mount, rather integrating underwater functionality onto an existing one saves a lot of dev resources, who no longer need to produce BL skins for a new creature, just keeping into the 7 we already have. They then can concentrate on other aspects.
Am I fine with that? I, personally, am. Although I do NOT like the skimmer (manta rays creep me out), I think this works out.
Liked for Wooden Potatoes 3D man
I did every PoF griffon adventure and it was just enough exp wise
Dont know abouth sulfur but if its not patch yet you can swin inside draconic moss boiling water :D
If you guys want quick exp, do bounties or dragon fall (LWS4) meta!
I dived in the boiling waters in the Draconic Mons, funilly i didn't take damage
Unlike the Skyscale, i liked this one. Even when the first day almost every part of it was bugged.
Gave me a reason to finish PoF achievements to get the 8 needed to unlock it for 2 accounts. Then getting 2 million XP running. around Dragons fall
btw try swimming in Draconis Mons * note don't dismount the skimmer
