So fun little bit of Lore: Admiral Osman, the woman in charge of ONI, is a failed candidate of the Spartan 2 program. Because of her body's failure to accept the physical augmentations all of the Spartan 2's went thru, she DESPISES Catherine Halsey
If I remember correctly, that's also the backstory of the founder of the Spartan 4 program.
He was left wheelchair bound and he hates Halsey too

Reminder: SPARTAN-IIs don't really have that much sexual drive, primarily caused by their augmentations (and of course their adjusted military mindset). You'd probably be lucky if your SPARTAN-II partner still has a "normal" sexual drive. SPARTAN-IIIs and SPARTAN-IVs are pretty much normal in comparison.

Dee, Infinity was the new UNSC flagship created after the Covenant war, and the first UNSC ship made using tech they discovered from the Forerunners and Covenant. It's also absolutely massive and has an incredible energy shield, which is why it effortlessly bashes through that cruiser. It's so big it actually stores a fleet of frigates INSIDE of it, that it can drop to fight alongside it (you see that in the cutscene when they arrive at Requiem), and I believe is also home to the UNSC's single largest Spartan training facility, which is that massive room they are all getting their armor put on in.
The Spartans in you see in this are indeed SPARTAN-IVs - which are essentially just exceptional rank-and-file military people, chosen to undergo a safer, more refined variant of the augmentations the SPARTAN-IIs got decades earlier, and mass-produced MJOLNIR armor. And they aren't kidnapped as kids or anything. That's why these characters are all cocky jarheads and stuff, versus Master Chief who is typically very quiet and withdrawn. And it's why Chief is still way taller than them (he was augmented as a kid).

@@rezmatic7763 It's easy to miss stuff like this, if you haven't watched and played through these things before. Dee is actually more perceptive than most people I've seen, in terms of understanding smaller details on his first go-round.
The Infinity was created during (not after) the Covenant war as a form of "ark" in the case that they lose Earth. Since they didn't need it they transformed it into the biggest human weapon in history.
That's a pretty hidden piece of lore (since even you got it wrong-ish), so I definitely won't expect Dee Bee to know that.
Having the infinity bash through a ship while its coming through slip space is cool but it always made me laugh cause what are the chances that in all of space you happen to pick exactly where a ship will be to come in

Nicky Honings but infinity is one of the most advanced ships ever made after the halo event, it’s also a symbol of humanity’s strength because at the start of the war they humanity didn’t stand a chance against the covanent and now they can just crash into the covonent ships so easily
Nicky Honings Shielding. Infinity is one of the first UNSC ships to feature shielding. Humanity in the past relied heavily on layers of plating for their ships, but now they have shielding technology which is more effective. Fun fact, you can actually see the Infinity’s shielding blare as it crashes into the Covenant ship.
@Nicky Honings Even Mac's have advanced in the time from Halo Reach to 4.. like infinity sports higher damage output in singular mac shot than what let say Pillar of autum could.
It's funny to think that Jul Mdama's Covenant still follows the belief of the Forerunners being gods, but Jul himself doesn't believe them to be gods, he just uses this as a rallying tool.

Actually, Jul's Covenant DIDN'T believed in the Great Journey, but they believed the Forerunners were gods (that was a religious thing the Sangheili believed long way before they met the San'Shyuum and founded the Covenant)

When considering Halseys intelligence, remember she literally hand picked the Spartan 2 candidates (less than a 100 out of billions, made the Spartan IIs into the most devastating soldiers in history (without armour), invented and designed their armour (which can kill an unmodified user), adapted technology millennia in advance of humanities to work with human tech and last but not least, designed the third generation Smart AIs and used a cloned copy of her own mind to make Cortana who is considered considerably more powerful than other smart AIs.
To prove that Lasky isn't stupid either, he had Spartan 4s as guards because he no doubt knew, Spartan 2s literally saw her as "mother" and would obey her without question (possibly part of the training). There are not enough troops on the Infinity to stop a team of Spartan 2s doing whatever she wants them to.

@MinecraftPro15 There doesn’t even necessarily need to be a connection to Mendicant Bias. I wouldn’t be surprised if a whole bunch of forerunner AIs were corrupted by the flood during their war and later found by the Covenant.
The Spartan 1 program is the group Johnson was apart of.
The Spartan 2s is the chiefs group.
The 3s are the ones from reach and the 4s are the new ones.

I do like Roland a lot too. During the Sparton Ops missions theres a ton lf in-mission-dialogue, and his lines are pretty amazing.

That woman that Lasky was talking to through the screen, Admiral Osman, is actually a spartan II wash out she's one of the ogs but the augmentations failed and left her crippled but ONI took her in and fixed her up over the years and she was mentored by the previous head of ONI, Admiral Parangosky
She also still served as a Spartan after being "patched up"

Ahh yes, I 'member. Can't remember how long it was between the chapter releases, but I was pretty excited playing the missions and watching the cutscenes as soon as they came out. Really enjoyed it.

It was also the first of what was supposed to be multiple seasons, hence the story doesn't line up with the start of halo 5. They filled the gaps with escalation instead.

I also recommend read "Halo: Renegades", which not only follows Rion's story after Smoke and Shadow, but also follows the story of a character we haven't seen in several years (I won't say who, because that's one of the most important things in that novel)
Ive been debating reading the new books but it just seemed like halo is becoming a teen drama series. Havent read a book since i think shadow of intent or hunters in the dark. Halo 5 violated me mentally.

Remember the Engineer (Huragok) from ODST? Well, the UNSC captured a few and together they build the INFINITY, with a lot of forerunner tech in it. Also they developed super small slipspace engines that could fit into a pelican.

Spartan 2's went through augmentation at a young age and grew up training to be soldiers which is why they are so powerful, Spartan 3's (halo reach spartans) volunteered to become spartans while spartan 4's were trained as adults. The augmentation process for 2's was very Crude so many died as a result the ones who lived were basically tough as fuck (chief, sam, linda, kelly, fred)

The S-IIs are also genetically superior which is why Haley went and kidnapped those specific kids. Even if their planet didn't get glassed by the covenant and managed to live into adulthood, they would have become accomplished people without becoming Spartans. Most of them anyways.

Before Playing Halo 5. You really should listen to the "Hunt the truth" audio drama. It was one of the ways 343 made publicity for Halo 5. That audio drama is sooo good. The story is better than Halo 5 itself!

There are actually a lot of things happening that are connected to the gameplay, so yeah it was really important to play the Spartan Ops.
Not really. there where some bit's of interest in the dialogue, but nothing that important that will effect his understanding of halo 5. The bigger issue is that if he doesn't read escalation, there will be a gap between this and 5, since they abandoned the other seasons of spartan ops.

@@no_social_skill1369 That all happens in the cutscenes not the missions, so you don't need to play any of the ops to learn that. Watching the cutscenes and an overview of escalation which covers the rest of the story from the cancelled seasons of Spartan ops is plenty.
It’s so dumb that you need all this extra material outside of halo 5 to understand wtf is happening in it. They could have done a better job of telling the story between halo 4 and halo 5. It’s a shame
@@MrEsphoenix In the gameplay some characters are given more fleshing out namely Roland who might play a bigger roll in Infinite due to what *didn't* happen to him at the end of Halo 5. Not needed but just a missing personal connection to a major character who might be important.
Halsey was a genius so smart, it almost pushes the boundaries of believability. Not only did she create the SIIs and their armor (one of a kind geneticist, bioengineer, and mechanical engineer), she also supervised the creation an entire generation of smart AIs. She added the failsafe to all smart AIs of that generation. Hence how she was able to override Roland with just a phrase. On top of all that, she knew as much about slipspace and physics as your average Nobel prize-winning theoretical physicist.

People that told you to skip Spartan Ops were probably the same people that told you that Halo 4 was trash, which you already said it isn't the case.
You missed all about the Fireteam Crimson, the one you play as, and the one that achieved everything. With a lot of Halo 4 gameplay that you already liked, they literally created another campaign so it was the equivalent of Halo 3 ODST.
Maybe consider playing it once you finish the main campaigns and still waiting for Halo Infinite?
I LOVE halo 4, but by god does Majestic suck. Bunch of frat boys in power armor. That being said, the cinematics are pretty dope as long as DeMarco and his brownnosing second in command dont talk or the black dude doesnt run into enemy fire. And its important to understand halo 5.

@@mistrants2745 As off-putting some of Fireteam Majestic were, I think that was the point. Spartan IIs (like Chief) are completely different from their subsequent counterparts; in terms of mentality and capabilities. As Spartan IVs, Majestic are basically just normal soldiers with slight genetic augmentations in power suits.

It kinda feels to me like they wanted it both ways: make a point about how these are basically just soldiers with augmentation and tech, but ALSO make them the new badass SPARTAN's.
The idea of SPARTAN 4's isnt inherently stupid, but the execution just rubs me the wrong way.

Still remember when you first played halo reach, man! I love seeing you're reaction to all the halo stuff.
Halsey understands sangheil (the common speak of the covenant) because she studied it, you'll meet a character in halo 5 that can also speak it and understand it. Also there are some comics that explains what the Chief did after halo 4 and a little hint of what Chief was doing in halo 5
Still, I wish you could have played it. Incase you didn't know, you play as fire team crimson. And you get to play as the spartan avatar you and 3 others have created. There are also some Red vs Blue audio easter eggs hidden in one mission of each episode.
This was originally part of Halo 4 on its release. So technically this wasn’t a different game, it’s just a different part of Halo 4.

I remember when halo 4 first came out I was really looking forward for this extra campaign. But the huge backlash due to the community arguing and talking crap about the game made 343i to stop the rest of the Spartan ops. Therefore they released a comic in which the story end.
And the community started to talk crap because they didn’t showed the rest on the game. So I guess what some people say about “we don’t know what we want” fits perfectly. :(
I never understood why people didn't like Halo 4 story, and spartan ops. I mean the story was awesome and the gameplay was alright.
Even if multiplayer was kinda bad and Spartan ops gameplay was repetitive it was soooo worth it.

Halo 4 had a compelling story from my PoV. And Spartan Ops was a good series in a not so lackluster game mod.

I love that you're getting into my all time fave game it I love to see new fans join us in this fight against the Covenant!
Bungie were the ones to introduce the covenant talking their own languages in Halo Reach. However it is explained in the books that the UNSC and the Covenant have translators in their gear. Making conversation between the species possible. Basically when we hear them speak English in CE, 2 and 3, we hear what they hear through their translators. There’s also a few humans who have learned Sangheili, seeing as it’s a good thing to learn, especially since the alliance. Halsey is most certainly one who has studied and learned their language. Also, -a very mild spoiler-, Vale in Halo 5 is a Sangheili expert, not only does she know their language but a great lot about their species and history.

There is a live action mini series called Halo Nightfall set before the events of Halo 5. It sets up the backstory of one of the main characters you'll see in the game. Also there is an Audio series called Halo Hunt the Truth which is pretty good.

Not really since it was all scrapped. All the context it shares is that Halsey is kidnapped by Jul (and doesn't have him by the ba- do they have balls?) and that she doesn't have an arm
Hey Dee just as a heads up you may want to read or at least check out Halo: Escalation, a 24 issue comic series between Halo 4 and 5, and explains some things leading up to Halo 5s story. Or at the very least issues 7-9, "The Next 72 Hours" arc, which takes place immediately after Halo 4 and is centered around Chief.
About the language, the Sangheili (Elites) speak the language of the same name of their species which also was used by the covenant as their lingua franca. Glassman doesn't understand Sangheili, Halsey does understand it but apparently doesn't speak it and Jul understands English but he doesn't speak it fully or simply doesn't want to.
The main story of Spartan Ops is continued in various comics.

Spartan IVs were the first successful use of grown adults to be crafted into Spartans, with Spartan IIs and IIIs from children. Spartan IV's were selected from successful military recruits, such as Army, Navy and ODSTs.
The attack on New Phoenix was shown at the end of Halo 4s campaign when the Didact unleashed the composer on Earth. You can briefly see the effects during the Epilogue where a Pelican medical crew was sent there, only finding piles of data dust.

In case anyone is wondering Fireteam Crimson is the group of Spartans you play as during the Spartan ops missions. Fireteam Majestic is basically 343's attempt at putting a bunch of cocky and ill mannered Spartans together who in the end, end up working really well together (Like the DC Suicide Squad but without the evil lol) it's speculated that fire team Crimson is the next 'hyper lethal' Spartans after Chief and Six.

Highly not recommended as the story arc has no conclusion. The Janus Key arc is a dead-end and doesn't tie into Halo 5. You're better off just watching Spartan Ops then jumping into Halo 5 as you won't miss anything. Escalation even downplays Halo 4 a lot with the reveal of multiple composers. Chief's eye reveal was cool tho.

Concerning that last query on languages:
It’s noted way back that Cortana was the one that was automatically translating for Master Chief, which was why we understood the Covenant in-game.
But with Halo 4 onwards, 343i wanted to be more “authentic”, and so showed situations where the different languages can be heard because there’s no handy translator.
As for Halsey: she’s been imprisoned for a while. I’m sure she’s had time to learn Shanghelian (the language of the “Elites”). Plus, it doesn’t hurt to be a 1-in-a-billion uber-genius.

I think the biggest bit of lore that slipped past ya is Admiral Osman - head of ONI: she was a Spartan II before the augmentations didn't work out in her case - so she has a bit of an axe to grind with Dr. Halsey (all of that is covered in the books - most specifically, the "Kilo Five" trilogy)

Interesting bit of lore trivia regarding the scene with the sangheili at 20:00. They all ignite their energy swords. In traditional sangheili culture it said that once ignited an energy sword cannot be extinguished until it has tasted blood. They're meant to only be used as weapons when necessary.
I don't know if its because the guys behind that scene weren't aware of this tidbit but I like to think that actually this scene shows how far the storm covenant have fallen from traditional sangheili views.
Thorn was originally going to be in halo 5, hence why they started to develop his character in this. Shame that went out the window 😞

A quick rundown of the different Spartan generations. Spartan-I were adult volunteers for a super soldier program (basically Captain America stuff) that while effective, was considered a failure as a whole. The soldiers were enhanced but not well enough. Johnson from Halos 1-3 is actually a member of the Spartan-I program, back when it was still known as Project ORION.
When Dr. Halsey created her SPARTAN program, she built her research off the backs of the research ORION had done previously. Halsey initially had 300 potential candidates for the program, all 6-year-old children due to the need to incorporate a forced puberty in the enhancements, effectively making puberty the trigger for them. Because there were 300 potential candidates, Halsey made a mental comparison with the 300 Spartans that famously fought off the approaching Persian army. Like the ancient Spartans, Halsey's Spartans were to be the last hope for protecting the UNSC from a war with the Insurrection that was proving to be inevitable. Because of this comparison, the Spartan name was chosen, and to honor the sacrifices the ORION troopers made, she retroactively dubbed Project ORION the "Spartan-Is", making hers the Spartan-IIs. The IIs are by far the strongest and best of all the Spartan generations due to the extreme augmentations and training they went through. To date you've seen 2 Spartan-IIs in the games thus far: Master Chief and Jorge from Reach, with a reference to a third if you go back and look: Linda in Halo Anniversary (she was mortally wounded in the Fall of Reach novel and is canonically aboard the Pillar of Autumn during the events of Halo 1, sealed in a cryo pod until they can find a way to repair her injuries. She does eventually recover and shows up later).
While incredibly effective in combat (a single Spartan basically is a 1-man army, much less a team of them as they're usually deployed), Spartans are extremely expensive. It's estimated that the cost of their armor alone is worth as much as an entire destroyer. They were also very few in number, only 150 of the 300 candidates were actually put through the training, and half of that didn't make it through the augmentation (though several would later on). ONI decided another solution was needed, and so began a parallel project, the Spartan-IIIs. The super strict requirements for Spartan selection were lifted, allowing a wider range of candidates to be chosen, and the augmentation was more radical with a soup of performance enhancing cocktails beefing them up at the cost of some mental instability. They also got different armor than the MJOLNIR of the Spartan-IIs. Their SPI armor lacked the advancements of MJOLNIR while adding a photo-reflective surface that effectively made them semi-cloaked. A massive step down from MJOLNIR but still a major improvement over the likes of ODST and Marine armor. The rest of Noble Team from Reach are all Spartan-IIIs, hand picked for special assignment by their Spartan-II instructor, they are one of the only group of Spartan-IIIs to get MJOLNIR. Nearly all the Spartan-IIIs were killed in action, most in their first deployments, as ONI saw them as "disposable Spartans", sent on the kinds of missions you wouldn't even want a Spartan-II to go on. A handful did survive in the novels and were with Halsey when she was discovered and arrested prior to the start of Halo 4.
Following the end of the Human-Covenant war, the Spartan project had gained incredible fame after the Master Chief's actions in spearheading the defense of Earth and ending the war (remember, Halo Reach, 1, 2, ODST, and 3 all take place in the closing months of a war that lasted decades). Because of this and the UNSC's massive rebuilding efforts, a new Spartan project was started. Unlike the IIs and IIIs, no children were abducted for the project, instead returning to the ORION/Spartan-Is style by taking adult volunteers from the military. Spartan-IVs are former Marines and ODSTs as well as a few of the surviving Spartan-IIs and IIIs who elected to remain in service and update the armor to the newer armor. Spartan-IVs are given augmentations, but nothing compared to the Spartans of the previous generations. Instead their armor was designed to close that gap. MJOLNIR Second Gen was designed to boost the IVs abilities instead of relying on the augmentations as heavily. It is said that a Spartan-IV in MJOLNIR Gen 2 can match the performance of a Spartan-II in MJOLNIR Gen 1, with the II only having the edge because of experience in combat. Unlike the IIs and IIIs, IVs don't have the same level of familial bonding that a lifetime of growing up, training, and fighting by each others sides give you. While the IIs and IIIs see each other as brothers and sisters, the IVs (mainly as a result of drawing from previous military experience) tend to act more as a fraternity as you can see with Majestic in the video. While technologically the most advanced, the Spartan-IVs are the least capable outside of the Spartan-Is who didn't get the benefit of power armor to enhance their abilities.
Spartan ops was kind of a mistake on the part of 343. It was meant to be a continuation of the halo 4 story, but a lot of the levels are just reused maps for the campaign and unfortunately the story is needed to understand what the opening of halo 5 is about. I think making spartan ops required reading was a mistake, but you also couldn't just ignore it. They really wrote themselves into a corner with it.

Spartan Ops takes place 6 months after Halo 4. Chief regrouped with his original Spartan II group, Blue Team. He went on many missions after his debrief, and he even fought the Didact again while blowing up another Halo trying to kill him.
This is explained in the books.

It fellt in many points, like they didn't put as much effort into it as they should.
I also know that the reason for this is, that they hat much trouble while developing Halo 5, if you look at the trailers etc. you can see clearly, that the story of Halo 5 is only one half and they tried to fix it.
So I think Halo 5 was an accident, they tried to fix and the results isn't the greatest game.
There are also some things design wise, I personally didn't liked, but that aren't the points, I meant in first place.

Pretty much this. Art design on some parts is a little off too. Multiplayer was the best to date though, offering both classic styles and warzone that allowed for custom loadouts and firefight type gameplay mixed with big team battles. Forge made for some amazing custom modes too. Really hope the add it to the MCC, as it can be hard to get into warzone games these days since most people have gone to the MCC. And fingers crossed they add split screen for it, which was one of the biggest travesties after the infamous fist fight.
Dee, about the whole language thing; I think the reason why the covies spoke english in some of the other games is because Chief had a translator in his helmet, and noble team/ the spartan IV's did not. (Also during the war, some covies actually decided to learn some english simply so they could taunt their enemies in battle. Or in some cases to know their enemy.)
Yes, you're correct. They are Spartan 4s. The original/unofficially named "Spartans" were the Orion Program. Johnson was an Orion/Spartan 1. After them were the Spartan 2s, like Chief, Blue Team, and Red Team from Halo Wars. After that were the Spartan 3s from Halo: Reach, other than Jorge, who's a Spartan, which is why he's bigger than the rest of the team. Finally in Halo 4 is the new generation of Spartans, the Spartan 4s.
Things you missed from unplayed game play that I can remember off the top of my head without rechecking UA-cam or Google so far:
•You, the player, are assigned to Crimson team from beginning to end.
•Watching your Pelican pick-up get glassed.
•Escaping from a Covie POW facility.
•Having a firefight back in the Infinity.
•(BEST EXPERIENCE SO FAR) After deactivating the one out of two artifacts anchoring the Infinity down, escaping to a Pelican off Requiem while gravity fluctuates making you feel like a bug trying to get out of a shaking can.

Oh another fun fact, Thorne was originally going to be part of Osiris Team, Locke’s team in Halo 5, but was eventually replaced by Buck. The concept art shows that he would have kept his same look from this game too. Also, it would’ve made a lot of Buck’s lines make a bit more sense if they were from Thorne rather than Buck.
The bald cocky guy (4:38) died later on in a comic, he redeemed himself in pretty heroic sacrifice.
The story is amazing BECAUSE of all the moral grey and conflict. It's thought provoking like good Sci-fi should be.
in halo 2 anniversary theirs two new cut scenes (beginning and end of game) where you meet the arbiter again and the new Spartans from halo 5 guardian(one of them you should know very well.) Love the halo exploration your doing,halo was the first fps i play when i got my first game console(waited ten years to receive my first one we were poor and were raised some what secluded from games.)
I recently played halo 2 anniversary again and noticed the new starting cutscene but what’s the new one at the end? I was expecting one bc of the first and idk if it just didn’t show up for me but I didn’t see it

Jul’Mdama actually can understand English and speak a bit too, he was captured by the UNSC and ONI and he started to understand English actively from there, even though at first he thought that that was something humiliating. Dr. Glassman mentioned that he can't understand Sangheili, but Halsey indeed can understand it, at least I think so.
That was something that happened in the Kilo Three trilogy, books of Halo Expanded Universe. There also appears an AI called Black Box, I think you will love that parlant Box jajajajaja
Also, the UNSC and ONI have language translation software in real time, that’s why we can understand when the Covies speaks in the videogames.
Spartan Thorne was supposed to be a member of fireteam Osiris in Halo 5 but, due to the voice actor being unavailable, they went with Buck instead.
It's so much fun seeing Spartan IV's just being Spartan IVs. After the lore-based Specialization ranks in War Games, and Season 1 of Spartan Ops? I was SO EXCITED to see this continue as the new face of the Halo universe! .... Then Halo 5 happened, and SpOps S2 was cancelled. :(
I also like the armor from Halo 4, although it's a bit too bulky. But nowhere near as bad as most people make it out to be.
The spartan 4 armour is visually different buts it’s phase 2 upgrades were supposedly putting them on equal level with spartan 2’s in phase 1 armour, also their biological enhancements had some differences, one of major ones being that spartan 4’s had their internal organs replaced with more efficient ones being the most gruesome sounding enhancement from memory
Also Spartan Ops features the coolest cutscene in Halo History 😎 the infinity just plowing through that covie ship 😂
Fun fact spartan iv's were volunteers, which is why they arent as serious as a spartan 2 or 3 would be in that opening cut scene, they also had less physical augmentations hence their size difference to the master chief, however the improvements made to spartan armour are so extensive that a spartan 4 in full armour (i cant remember if s4's armour is also called mjolnir) can survive a fight against a spartan 2 in full mjolnir

As a follow up, to the Language barrier with the Elites and Humans. The Sangheili (Elites) do in lore speak their language during the events in the game but many seem to know English. Jul am dama speaks both to Glassman during one of the parts; however to explain why Halsey speaks both, she is a highly intelligent person and seems to know Sangheili.

The thing to remember about the Spartan IVs is that they didn't meet the grade for the last batch of Spartan IIIs (who themselves were no match for the 1st batch of IIIs). Many of them are also former ODST so don't have the discipline that you expect from the IIs or IIIs.
But they are still pretty loyal to the UNSC
