My 3 biggest issues can be summed up as:
-The Marketing was total lies.
-The Master Chief is only playable in 3 of the 14 missions
-To understand the story you have to watch or read like 10 different lore related things. (Back when this game came out I was a casual fan and hadn't done a ton of lore searching)
can't agree with the last one, i didn't read or watched Lore things leading into Halo 5 and I understood it fine, good, maybe because I played all the others.

@@blackcatleader2459 agreed but halsey's arm was shot by Palmer in Spartan Ops. So that's not a problem with the story, Buck and Locke going from ODST to Spartan was wierd.
I haven't played halo 5 yet because my wifi is slow af. I mainly play the 360 games and the ogXb games (including the og halo 2 which is dead) but i only ever bought MCC (in 2019) to play H2A and HCE PC multiplayer. There are wroughts with 4/5 but there are parts we should praise. like halo 4s awesome story I thought was alright and halo 5s multiplayer which was god like (not the glowy Spartans or forced enhanced mobility (matchmaking)) but the sandbox elements. People can dis halo 5 all they want but I'm insistent it's got the best multiplayer.
The biggest issue was that mystery around the hunt of Master Chief was so cool, and in game nothing ever happens with it. They essentially lied in their marketing. That and the game is average at best.

The issue is the fact that the marketing team is always a separate entity from the developers. it wasn't 343 who told the marketing what to make. What the "Hunt the truth" campaign was referencing was the original draft of the story that was set up by spartan ops.
theoretically, it was halsey to contact chief, not cortana. and Chief trusting Halsey enough to go find her makes ONI label chief a traitor rather than just awol. This then has them send Locke for on a kill order mission, not a capture alive mission. What's what the original draft may have been, and what the marketing team was banking on when making their ads for the game.
how ever, when microsoft saw how people panned the spartan ops, they told 343 to scrap the original draft, and had other writers work on the story for halo 5 instead of going with the original story. But by then, the Hunt the Truth campaign was already being made by the marketing team and just never communicated with 343 about the changes. This tends to happen a lot in media where the marketing team looses track of what the developers/producers are doing and put out commercials that misrepresent the final product.
Hunt the Truth was best marketing I have ever seen. The hype was real in the trailers, the audio bits released every week, the "leaked" and decrypted images and videos. But the hype ended after the glorified punch out in the game.

@@WorldWalker128 essentially. And developers are required to stay quiet on their projects unless they are explicitly told what to reveal. And even then, what does get revealed isn't decided by them but by the publisher and IP holder. Which is Microsoft.
What I don't understand is why people universally understand that when an EA published game messes up, fingers are pointed at EA. Likewise for Activision when they publish a flop.
But then 343 gets bashed at so much even though they're in the same situation as the devs owned by EA and Activision.

@@PieaterProducts I wouldn't go that far. Yes halo 5 was misleading, but at least there was still endless amount of fun in the multiplayer. Evolve on the other hand, that game fucking *died* . It's so bad that they had to make it a free 2 play game and even then that wasn't enough to get people back. Having people run in circles chasing a single player is not fun.

How have times passed...
I still love the juxtaposition of the 2 Teams’ introductions. Osiris, made of SPARTAN IVs(which are all basically upgraded ODSTs), comes in flashy, over the top, and causes a massive ruckus. Blue Team, made of SPARTAN IIs, is quick, quiet, methodical, and efficient.
Really drives home the difference between the two primary types of SPARTANs

@@theswullnasty3353 No it’s definitely they were hyping him and the original Halo 5 story was gonna be a lot different until they brought on a new writing lead or something and he changed it all for his own story, plus they did kill him off like a bitch even though he was such an interesting character. And all Spartans are badass not all Spartans are Spartan 2’s and 3’s, 4’s are Walmart Spartans. The 4’s don’t have the augmentations of the 2’s and 3’s or the training.
Well it kinda makes sense , it's a whole squad of spartan 4s one of which was considered one of the best odst operatives to ever live and another was a literal hitman for oni it's an elite squad compared to most of the spartan 4s

Halo 5 doesn't really have weapons that are "the best" for plays on Normal. Every weapon is just lethal with no real utility or quirks between them.

to me the thing that pissed me off the most in H5 is the cortana bit. they send off cortana in a very emotional and perfect scene and then just put her back, they had the Didact, the perfect counter to the Chief and they wasted him in 1 game.

I still think that replacing Cortana with the Didact in h5 would have solved a few of its issues but now they kinda have to run with it since they can't backpedal now

Halo 5 is fucked, that's a big list and it's 100% spot on. Also you play the majority as a Spartan you don't care about
Don't forget the 'lootbox' REQ packs that you could buy if you want to unlock armor faster, or get consumable weapons, vehicles, and/or powerups for the Warzone modes
And that the style of a lot of the new armors were atrocious, bulbous, pompadour monstrosities
And the awful attempt to bring back the Noble Six armor from Reach, and the worse looking attempt with the original Mark V armor set
i love how hes going through the whole "chief has ptsd" thing that would have made such a better plot than what we got
With regards to buck being a spartan now i think its actually a cool homage to Reach and ODST, because in Reach MP customisation, you can set your firefight voice to bucks voice, and hes voice description is "if he were any better, he'd be a spartan"

Chief: Him and his team gently land on a ship while one squad of Covenant gets thrown into space.
Me: Ah Yeah Baby!
You thought that terribly choreographed scene was good? How? The Elites look and act like literal Brutes, and that sword Elite should have landed that swing. The entrance itself was ridiculous and impractical, it was action movie bullshit. The ship they left outside was even destroyed as a result. The Halo 2 bomb scene made some sense because it was faster than mounting it onto a ship which would have taken hours. But the Blue Team entrance here doesn't save any time since the Pelican's weapons could have broken through the window anyway and flown in that way even faster without risking the ship. They don't save resources of any kind since they end up WASTING AMMO from their own weapons just to break in. And they don't get the drop on the enemies more effectively because if the Covenant were using scanners then the Pelican in the astroid field still would have been detected.
At best this is a poorly thought out scene that should have been revised, and when it's being viewed more critically, this plan was flat out stupid, choreographed terribly, and that sword Elite should have killed Chief on his way out.

The scene with Locke in it was cool and all but it was so over the top, it looked like 343 trying hard to make the fans know how cool he is which only makes it less cool. Chief on the other hand the fans love and him simply walking into view would make any fan happy.

The "jaggy" animation is actually an optimization technique. IIRC it cuts down on the keyframes or frame rate of the animations for characters that are farther away to save on resources, kinda like how LOD techniques cut down on polygons for distant objects. For some reason (or to guarantee max performance, I'm not sure) it seems they implemented it pretty heavily, meaning you still see it up close.
My man’s hasn’t experienced what we experienced until he’s heard season 1 of Hunt the Truth. That being said a lot of more casual fans likely didn’t either and the fact he put the effort in to watch the trailers to put himself in that mindset at all is astounding

I always saw him as a halo fan after he finished reach, but hearing his honest opinion after his first few missions proves that he is. He loves halo for what it is to the rest of us and hates what it shouldn't be.
Halo 5 Guardians game play is fantastic. It's the story I have a problem with. Also one of my favorite things about the game is how the opening for Osiris shows how destructive spartan can be, and how the opening for Chief shows how Precise and Lethal they can be without expending any more than what is necessary.
If only the halo fans community wasn't the toxic swamp that basically buried any chance of this kind of gameplay ever happening again 👺

The rest of them were not even close to spartans from 5 cuz those are of the next generation and were actually augmented properly, and also have superior suits. It's not plot armor they're just stronger. If you wanna talk about plot armor Chief is your guy.

Dee, I'm a hardcore Halo fan myself, and I'm glad that you're staying honest about what you like and dislike about Halo 5. But I'm also glad that you're starting to understand why some of us Halo fans are upset about Halo 5.

Also, if you want to understand better why everyone is complaining about the marketing for Halo 5, you should check out "Hunt the Truth." It's actually very good for an audio-only story, but it was supposed to hype us for Halo 5 before it came out but it didn't even have relevance to Halo 5's story at all. By itself, It's still very good though.
38:47 Yeah, this is where the books come into play. Fred and Kelly were MIA after the Fall of Reach and were hanging out with some Spartan-IIIs and Dr. Halsey in a Shield World for a while. Any other Spartan-II that was with them on Reach are now mostly dead.
As for Linda, she was actually there in the games with John... kinda. She took some Needler rounds to the chest and was declared medically dead before she was put into cryo for potential future resuscitation. You can see her vitals in the first level of Halo 1 anniversary where she's listed as dead; her pod got ejected into space and was picked up by John between 1 and 2 in, you guessed it, another book.

Love how they show how different the two teams approach situations. Osirus goes in guns blazing, utilizing all their fancy armor shit and Chief's team are tactically quick and simple; break through window, let the air suck them out.

If it wasnt called " halo" it would be a good game tbh. But it is and it is the weakest. IT didn't help that the build up to the game was different than what we got. Didn't help that chief got side lined in missions , didn't help tht they force the new characters in you're face. And it doesn't help that they bring the so called "cortana" back after what was a great send off of her character in halo 4. Most wont know that the cortana in halo 5 isnt actually her unless they are massive halo law nerds and so it seems even more stupid. What sux is there is some great in h5, its just hard to see though the mess. The first MC lvl infact is a fantastic classic halo lvl and a lot of fun. At least they got Forge and MP right. I do feel 343i can bring it all together for the nxt game, they have shown they can do it in parts, just bring it all together now and we might have something special.

when I picked up halo 5 back in like 2017, and attempted to pick it up and go assuming it was halo the controls and changes just threw me off like this is not halo, I literally returned it a month later, but came back to it in like 2019, but I approached it as if it was just a sci fi shooter, and enjoyed it from that perspective
Halo 4 death was lame and forced. Chief could have saved her or atleast got back to earth. There suppose to steal a phantom to get back a soon as they get in requiem but they forget that and start doing everything else

@@ronuss forerunner ship never had to escape the gravity well because they blew it up (the gravity well) except they released the didact before that and for some dumb reason cortana convinces chief the infinity is in the center of the planet even though the planet has been dormant for years, even the covenant could not get inside. If they waited for the infinity, blew up the well and left, cortana would not be dead and there'd been no didact

i honestly love all the gameplay changes 343 made with this, i love seeing blue team (albeit very sudden since i went into this game blind and then i see my girl linda and lose my shit), my only gripes are honestly cortana, chief being pushed aside for lock (i think lock is cool but he is the new guy so you need to ease him in and not pull a kojima like with raiden in MGS2) and the wierd stuff they did with the multiplayer.

In general, people dont have an issue with the mechanics like the spartan abilities. Its literally just the campain people have an issue with and how the story is told and was marketed.
I mean I prefer halo without Sprint. I'm okay with the dodge
Well, a lot of people would prefer a Halo without sprint, let alone the power ranger abilities in H5. But f or me most of the issue with H5 is the story, yeh.

@Nick Fletcher. Keep in mind that Chief was wearing Gen 2 armor, and so was Locke. Gen 2 armor brings everyone, regardless of Spartan Generation, to very similar combat effectiveness across nearly all boards. Basically: They had to nerf Chief in order to establish Locke as capable of fighting the Chief.
Edit: But yes, that fight was stupid and was nowhere near fast-paced enough to match a Spartan on Spartan combat scenario.
Some of the powers were dumb, the story was ridiculous and the art style of the covenant was just bad.
Oh man, he missed one of the live action trailers with Chief and his team running in a city getting destroyed by a guardian. Also the MCC E3 trailer with Arbiter talking to Locke.

The janky animation was a compromise to get the game up from 30 FPS to 60 FPS. You’ve had the advantage of playing all the Halo remasters in 60 FPS and not their original 30 FPS so it’s easy to see why you didn’t know why they did it

If you like, as you pointed out about the controls and aiming with the trigger, there's a button layout called Halo 4, if I recall correctly. It simply just gives you the H4 controls, just reworked to fit this game.
The story in H5 was not really good, but the gameplay and the music were absolutely great. Being so agile feels amazing!
The opening of Halo 5 is actually amazing.
Team Osiris shows the hot-blooded nature of Spartan V's. Compared to the cool and calm destruction delivered by MC's team in mission two... Well done.
Here's what's wrong with Halo 5 in my opinion:
- The gameplay was nothing like Halo
- The artstyle was nothing like Halo
- The sound design was nothing like Halo
- The level/map design was nothing like Halo
- Master Chief wasn't the main character
- The story was terrible and needed a lot of expanded lore in order to be understood
- Intrusive microtransactions
- Lack of gamemodes at launch
- Many other things I can't think of off the top of my head
The biggest problem I had with the game was that it just didn't feel like a Halo in any way. I wouldn't call it an objectively bad game, it's just a bad Halo.

All spartans in arena have the same weapons and abilties,the gunfight is the best of every halo and the matches are decided by the skill of the player and team. Warzone and the firefight are play everyday,like big team battle...
I dont like the ground pound,a part this is still one of the best FPS for xbox one.... hope in infinite they keep the same move of h5....

I know you like Sprinting and Sliding... but Halo Community always felt that belongs to Call Of Duty feature. We hated that Halo didn’t play like Halo anymore, that the changes was to draw Call of Duty players to Halo, especially back then there was Halo game players vs Call of Duty game players just like how there’s PlayStation gamers vs Xbox gamers. How you felt as a PlayStation Guy before even thought of playing Xbox, is exactly how the Halo community hated these new features that were like Call of Duty and changes. That’s the perspective we are coming from. Thus we didn’t like both Halo 4 & 5 for that.

One of my biggest problems is how there isn’t practically one moment that feels like halo, elites, Spartans even chiefs a little off
The overall look is completely off aswell the UNSC have that 80s retro futuristic militant look along with the Spartans and weapons in this it got more uninteresting and just straight up future sci fi with

We should've started the game with the classic art style Forward Until Dawn and its equipment along with Chiefs armour all being from Halo 3 but the Infinity should have the 343 art style along with the new weapon designs and vehicles. John goes to the Infinity and they make him new armour.
This would've be so much better instead of starting the game in a world which looks totally different from Halo 3 start slow and introduce the new art style over time. The Infinity is one of the most advance ships in the UNSC Navy but it doesn't show when it has the same tech as the Forward Until Dawn in Halo 4 having us start with old equipment and then see the infinity and all its new tech would've been so much better.

I feel like to really understand how fans felt about this game, you need to do a deep dive into Halo's multiplayer. While it's exciting seeing you enjoy all of the Halo campaigns, the multiplayer aspects of each game contribute a lot to how each game is received.
For example, while you may have enjoyed Halo 4's campaign many fans didn't like the changes to the core multiplayer experience. Believe it or not, sprint was widely hated by competitive players.
The thing is with Halo, much like Star Wars everyone has a different opinion on what "true" Halo multiplayer is. Some think it should be a competitive, arena style shooter based on aim, equal starts, and advanced movement. Some people love the casual custom games/couch gameplay. Some love creating incredible maps with Forge. Halo means so much to so many different people that the games can not just be evaluated by their campaigns alone.
To get to the point, many fans were disappointed with the misleading campaign yes. But also, when the game launched, many of the playlists in multiplayer were missing. The core multiplayer was great and highly competitive which was well received but simply at launch it was an incomplete game. However, many fans grew to love Halo 5 because 343i kept updating the games. If you were to take a look at the amazing Forge, custom game settings, competitive multiplayer you'd probably find that the overwhelming negativity towards the game may have been justified in the beginning but the game now is pretty great.
Regardless I'm so happy you've been able to take part in this journey and seeing a new fan go through each game has done a lot for community. The Halo community has splintered as the years go by but seeing your pure enjoyment of each game has oddly united us all. Keep up the great work!
Halo 5s multiplayer is the best imo. Bc of it's sandbox elements. Plus it's forge was gmod on console basically. I haven't even played halo 5 yet but I'm insistent that when I do it's gonna be fecking awesome. Well I mean custom forge maps and the cool different infection variants, basically what Forge Labs played. Tho I don't think I'll like the default gameplay.
Very well said. The multiplayer is what has defined this series and in my opinion the godfather of all online gaming. I think a good idea to continue this series would be to live stream some online gaming, and even interacting with us the fans by playing some slayer with us. That would be sick. Maybe even helping to revive the series to what it once was

Back when he was with OFST Buck’s team went on a mission against some resurgence where the Rookie was captured and killed. Buck ended up taking the Rookie’s death really hard and ended up leaving the OFSTs to join the Spartan program.

I personally love Halo 5, though I understand that some of the changes are a lot to handle for some people. I don't necessarily agree with everything the story does, but its still at least very fun to play.
I loved it too. It wasn't the same as the other. Maybe not the best, but at least it wasn't the same. People will lie...but no, it's still Halo, if you play other games like COD or Titan fall, which I do a lot, they do not feel the same.

Helljumper is a suit designed by a retired ODST specifically for other ODST veterans who became Spartans. Buck got a trial-run version of the suit.
Fred, Linda and Kelly got left behind on Reach when the Pillar of Autumn fled the planet. They linked back up with John after the events of Halo, when they returned to Reach to look for survivors. They got separated again following the Covenant attack on Earth. John was aboard Cairo station, Fred and Linda were on Earth, and Kelly was “kidnapped” by Halsey when she went to Onyx to investigate the Spartan-III program.
Chief sticks with the crew of In Amber Clad, while Fred and Linda were sent by Lord Hood to help out Halsey.
After the events of Halo 2, Fred, Linda and Kelly were stuck on the Forerunner shield world of Onyx, and didn’t return to Earth until a few months after the war ended.
The first time John saw them in years was within the first 48 hours following the end of Halo 4.
Instead of them bringing Cortana back, I wish they had made Halsey create a new Cortana. Cortana 2.0 if you will
I wouldn't have minded Cortana being restored to full function if it had made sense and she didn't go nuts. Cortana was NEVER like that before, so why would she decide to be, now? I mean, I guess one could argue that it was one of her personality split-offs from going rampant that we end up interacting with and the original was destroyed at the end of 4, but the game does not tell you that. I can understand why ALL of Humanity's AI would jump on board the life-extension bandwagon when they'd otherwise live for a shorter lifespan than a dog would otherwise, but all of them just ignoring their primary core-coding that decides their purpose and function despite otherwise seeming to be human is stupid and lazy, and quite frankly with most of the bigger ships and even cities being run by AI the war is over before it can even really begin, thus basically KILLING any chance of the story being able to actually go anywhere at this point and still retain at least a semblance of realism and logic.
That probably would be better; same memory, different personality, and it would give a purpose to the beginning scene
Buck did marry Veronica from the ODST game, and his HELLJUMPER Spartan armor was designed after ODST armor.

There's a book called New Blood that tells the story of how Buck became a Spartan and joined Osiris. It also has a sequel, Bad Blood, which is set after Halo 5. Their both worth a read.
To give context, there’s was an entire book explaining how most of the ODSTs from Halo ODST turned into Spartan 4s. I won’t spoil it if you wanna look into it but it’s pretty good

Too bad that shit doesn’t translate smoothly to the games. It’s annoying to have characters dies offscreen if they were presented in a past game. I want to be able to ignore the books unless they spark my interest instead of them feeling like homework for the games.
A clarification: there are only +500 SPARTAN-IVs, and not everyone were ODSTs (Tanaka and Thorne were from Army, Vale from Navy, Locke from ONI); and ODSTs have at least four divisions with 10,000-20,000 troops each division
