    The small glass jar Testor paint from the 1980-90 used for plastic car models. I know that color of red. Painted a whole dragon that shade back in 92.

      That brought back memories of hours and hours of standing in the model aisle looking at models I wanted to build, but was told "no, girls don't build models". I couldn't even put together my barbie dream house. My mother was really mad that I wasn't excited about it because I was always staring at those models.

    So I'm only about two and a half minutes into the video and I have to agree with you 100% about not using acetone on anything but metal models . But I would like to add that if you are in fact using metal models that acetone is about the only thing that you really should be using on them because it takes everything off incredibly quickly and it gives you a beautiful white metal finish on almost everything and is perfectly ready to start the painting process over again.

    Maybe I should try this thing of recovering figures that I painted when I was 12 years old... with colors that were not from the hobby. Nice thick layers they were 😅😅

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues

      Honestly, that would be amazing to see. I want to know what 12 year old Sergio was thinking when he started painting minis :)

    Another tip on the hard to get off paint. And I recently ran into this on some old 3rd edition Blood Bowl plastic figures from the box set. Not sure what they were painted with. But even with the ultrasonic, L.A.'s Totally Awesome, and some mild heat from the sonic, they were taking forever to remove. Harbor Freight, Wal-Mart, and various hardware and home improvement DIY stores sell these three brush kits. One with stiff plastic bristles, one with brass bristles, one with steel bristles. I used the steel bristles one and started scratching the paint layers with them. Then the paint started to break down. The same brush was used to get the last bits of paint along with some dental pics. The plastic will have micro scratches that make it look hazy. But it's a lot like sanding with a really fine grit. Once you hit it with primer, it disappears.

    Having been a hobbiest for the better part of 40+ years there's some helpful tools I can recommend. One is a fiberglass bristle brush from AK Interactive. It'll abrade any tough to remove paint in any nook and cranie. You'll need to use it in soapy water though as the microscopic bristles can break off. Two is that there's several brands of "Decal/Enamel paint remover" made by hobby companies. They won't harm the plastic underneath, but will remove the enamel paint and primer. Hope this helps. Love your restoration of minis and channel. 👍☺

    I only use acetone when I need to melt glue bonds on metal minis--I learned the hard way that anything other than metal melts in it! It's no good for stripping paint, in my experience. Looks like that thing was a chore and a half to clean, but the end result looks great! (Just don't get me started on how much a pain NMM is for me!)

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  7 місяців тому +1

      nmm is still a pain for me, but this felt like a good middle ground, and easily undone if need be!

      For the most part that's where I would take it, make it something in a faction that has that type of thing going on already. But, the grimdark can go deep into some of the "cleaner" models. If there's a will, is what I'm saying. Definitely a lot easier on a mini that already looks good all busted up and gross though lol.

    Did you just invent a new technique of NMM?? NMM over a true metallic paint base. Now it needs a catchy new name that everyone will start using.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  7 місяців тому +1

      haha, I can't remember what it's called (maybe modulation?), something I learned from Caleb Wissenback. He uses it a lot on metallics and I really like it on things like knights, it's definitely taking the same principles of light placement on nmm and using colors to give the same effect.

    For those weird lumps on his arms, I was thinking the pointier ones could be done up as itty bitty horn growths, and the rounder ones could have been either done up in a different skin tone or a wode blue to make them look like a form of scarification, I really thought you were going to go with the latter when you said you wanted to bring in more blue.

    ive really been enjoying your videos! i managed to pick up a used Ork Warboss on Wyvern(the same one you did a video on) at my FLGS. it was a shock to see it just sitting in a plastic bag on a used mini shelf for $35! it was one of the finecast models with plastic wings, i was hesitant that it might be recast but it is legit! i also got an ultrasonic cleaner and have been loving it for stripping rescue minis. have a good one and keep up the good content!
