it;s interesting who can give dislikes to those content, if someone don't like this music - he will never get this page. Bach? He is perfect! So what? Sound quality? - it's already good.
Inderdaad: 'The most disconcerting version I ever heard'.
I wonder why you call this version disconcerting? john lewis for me makes bach seem human...especially when compared to some pianist like glenn ghoul who sound as if they are playing on some sort of elaborate musical typewriter...mathematics is definitely a huge part of any advanced music however it shouldn't be preeminent at least not for the listener...
Disconcerting cause Lewis built his own WTK without detroying the Bach's one. The first time I had the chance to listen to these recordings I started thinking " Ow, old John commited another boring imitating version". That when listening to the first notes, then came the following ones, real Jazz inside. Disconcerting cause leading where not expected to, more than one time on each prelude and each fugue.
Thank you so much for posting these gems. These are my favorite interpretations of these works.
John Lewis Bach is my go to album when i am reading or studying. It really helps me concentrate. Thanks for uploading.

This is the wonderful musical world of John Lewis plus Bach both at there best
J.Lewis plays Bach as a great jazz pianist.Always loved Modern jazz quartet, which John Lewis was a part of. That's why such a jazzy approach.
thank you so much for sharing this version. Astonishing.

Amazing subtle humming ... This brings tears to my eyes ....
Outstanding
what you are responding to is pathos...after all isn't that what art is all about? without pathos there is no art just simply 'pop'...
Just realized he is improvising... :D
Vera Vieira it gives me chills
Vera Vieira Yeah, I was like "wow bach was really quite jazzy for his time, superprogressive guy" and then it came to me :D
+Vera Vieira 52:01 makes my whole existence stormed with nostalgia to something that I cannot recall ....
Prelude No. 3 is missing.
