Yes, this is the first song I heard from Home Free and I was hooked. Watched I version with Avi before I saw this one. I was already a Pentatonix fan.
The thing is: Home Free was not considered an acapella band even though they sang country songs and performed on a lot of county fairs. If you are lucky to find the old albums online you'll see that their style was all over the place. Insanelly talented but as much the same as other acapella bands. Tim and Austin were the ones who really brought the country vibes to the band.
They auditioned to The Sing Off the first 3 years but only this time they got a spot when they performed some country songs. The first 3 times they performed singing other genres. Considering that didn't exist such thing as a country acapella band and The Sing Off never had country on the show, it was like a perfect fit for them to distinguish themselves amongst other groups. After the winning and the new fanbase it was a natural path to follow and they recorded the first country album during the show to debut right after and use some of the tv spotlight. Chris Rupp talked about this on his FB.
So we, Home Fries, specially the ones who knew the band before The Sing Off, are always trying to remind the new fans that they sing this genre but do so much more not only because they have the talent to do it, but because they were doing it before this show, for so many years.

Yes I would love you to react to all of Home Free's Sing Off performances. Then you truly see how much they have grown. They were good then 2013 but they are epic now
They ARE definitely a country group,however...they are masters at their craft and can do any style they choose. They are very diverse and have a broad spectrum of styles and sounds.but yes,country boys at heart 110%.that's where their heart is and they proudly say they are a country acapella group.😄 I've been a Home Fry ever since their first performance of the Sing Off...Tim always gets me!!😂❤thanks for checking this one out! The entire Sing Off series of Home Free with the judges comments is cool to watch. Home Free said that they were the only a capella group doing country. That is a statement that they made during the Sing Off. The controversy comes in simply because they aren't JUST country. About the only thing I've never heard them do is some kind of hard rock or heavy metal. A few good ones to check out to sample their versatility would be Hillbilly Bone, Wake Me Up, Blue Ain't Your Color, Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget (Written by Tim) In The Blood, Helplessly Hoping, Country Fried Pop, and the LIVE version of 9 to 5 (there's some special effects to see in the LIVE version. They began, covering a lot of territory. The chose to turn country after Austin joined (with Tim and Austin's influence). They remain country focused but are not afraid to play with other genres as long as they can find a way to put their stamp on it.
I watched The Sing-Off every season and Home Free was my favorite from the start on their season. I remember blown away at that last note, and I still prefer this version to the studio recording. I'd be down to see you react to Home Free and PTX Sing-Off series. Both groups killed it the seasons they were on.
All their Sing-Off performances are worth watching as well as the ultimate Sing-Off challenge they did with the Filharmonic ("I'm All Right" from Caddyshack). Some of the other groups' performances are worth watching as well. Probably my favorite of them is VoicePlay's "Play that Funky Music, White Boy". It's just an absolute blast. I didn't check to see which channel you got this from, but I'd recommend Ingrid Händel's channel. The videos are clear and the sound quality is excellent. She has a whole playlist for this season of The Sing-Off.
HOME FREE is a rabbit hole you definitely want to go down. 😊
I actually didnt see them on the Sing Off until after I was already a huge fan. I went back and watched all of their SingOff performances just to get a better idea of who they were, how they started, and to see them doing their music LIVE because I was just amazed that they were a capella! When I saw that you were doing this one, I was ECSTATIC because while everyone will watch or react to the other version with Avi, there are very few who see this amazing, original rendition they did first. To be completely honest, while I thought the one with Avi was great, I prefer this one much much more! They were Live...and they completely blew my mind!! I always tell people to watch this version too but most don't take the time and it's so SAD because they have no idea what they're missing. But YOU did it!...and arent you glad you did?!! Thank you again for following through! Your reaction was lit! My favorite one all day!

Really wish the Sing-Off had more seasons! It was the best of all the competition crap shows. Anything from any season is a great watch. Most groups aren’t together anymore but some still perform together.
I didn't see sing off when it first aired. I have watched it since several times and I really like this version better than the one with Avi. Although their other live versions are great too. Really liked your reaction to this. Thank you and keep 'em coming. I agree with another comment, please do the sing off of Home Free vs. Philharmonic it is really great!

Thank you! was 13 when this show aired. When Adam dropped that amazing beat, it was the first time my jaw dropped watching a singing appearance on television. 🤯🤭🤯. Being a young teen, I was blown away! I became a fan of beatboxing that night. I became a Home Fry recently. It has been a fun journey.
My first time I rewatched that last note at least 20 times. I am rocker who loves home free. I started with o holy night then how great though art and end of the road. Ive been a fan for several years now.

I feel like they’re really uptight in the live version! They sound much more comfortable with their parts in the Avi version, thus allowing them to really throw in some amazing runs that make the song so much better.
Home Free considers them selves the worlds first all male all vocal country band.. They do a lot of country but they can and do R+B and pop . They can sing anything and they do. The sing off was really great, yes yes please do all their sing off songs..
I was at a HF concert...decent size hall...about half way back and to the left....Tim hit a note so low....my pant legs were shaking....it was an AMAZING experience. They are a Country A Capella group...but they do soooo much more. If you want another example of Bass and Percussion, check out "Do you hear what I hear" which was arranged by Adam Rupp and has some AMAZING stuff in it.
If you haven't seen their other performances from this show, you should check them out. I heard them live recently, and Tim really does make your seat vibrate with those low notes.
This is old like 8 years ago or something. It was suggested by the producer of the "Sing Off" to go in that direction because no one else was doing country acapella so they fit a niche for the show. Also because there were two of them at the time from the south (Tim & Austin) and they at the time already did alot of country music. But they also did everything else at the time too. They already auditioned for the show a couple times and didn't get selected. Once they went with the "country acapella" label they ended up being selected for the show. They went with that for a few years after but changed it when they started their own label. They no longer were beholden to a record company and could finally do more of what they wanted and more music in their own individual style. For example; "End of the Road" with Rob singing R&B, which is more his forte. They also changed their look (less country than before) and added some original songs that were a little more bluesy. They didn't want to be boxed into any one category. Tim, Austin & now Chance do not always sing with their accents. It depends on what fits for the song. Just like Adam & Rob who are from Minnesota, add accents (which they do not speak with) to certain country songs. It's a stylistic choice. You will see often that Rob doesn't sing with and accent but Tim does in a song (like their original music) because that's where they are more comfortable and is more there own style. So NO they are not a country acapella group any longer but they once called themselves that. So you will hear alot of country when reviewing their videos because most of them are old videos. There newer stuff is less country based. Hope this explains it for you.
I’m not a country fan but watched the sing off and was hooked on Home Free. This was their 3rd try to make it on the show. By labeling themselves Country this time they stood out and made the cut. After auditioning but before filming, one member left and Austin, who they met while singing on a cruise ship joined the group. Pure luck brought in Austin who with Tim gave them only 2 members who had grown up on southern country (but had since left it). It’s just plain good music and for most songs they avoid the signature A cappella tricks (“acca-geek-porn”) so they sound like a band and I have to make friends watch a few videos before they’ll believe the group they’ve heard in my car is A Capella. Yes watch the battle “I’m Alright” from the season. Rob’s gopher is the funniest moment I’ve seen on network TV.
I was a Home fry from the first time I heard them sing on The Sing-Off (Cruise). But when I heard them do Ring of Fire I knew they would win.

Home Free has said that they had to apply as a country band because that was different. I think they tried to apply before and didn't get through, then they took on the Country brand and got through, because NBC wanted a country group in the competition. At least that's what I remember from an interview I read/heard. Cheers!

Home Free on the Sing Off was absolutely amazing. Yes watching them through the whole sing off would be fun. If you want go to...Home Free Sing Off Season 4 song 1 with judges comments...after the first song there should be a line of the rest of the songs to the side. Then the same with VoicePlay's name replacing Home Free. If you also want Pentatonix they were on season 3. They are all good. When you do Home Free you will see them sing with and against Filharmonic. They are still out there also, just for another group to check out. Thanks for a great reaction.
Two things about this version of Ring of Fire. First, they started it off in a key that is lower than the original which makes that ridiculously low note that Tim sings at the end all the more impressive. Second, the speed of the song is much faster than what they usually do.
My mom and I started watching The Sing-Off together back in season 1 and it quickly became our favorite. Seeing the establishing of Pentatonix, Peter Hollens, and VoicePlay from that show and then Home Free breaking into the limelight has been amazing. We were HomeFries from the first episode they performed in and I still go back to watch them in the show to see their journey. I highly recommend Home Free's mashup with Philharmonic on the show-it was so funny. Also if you haven't, VoicePlay has some awesome stuff including their cover of Oogie-Boogie's Song from Nightmare Before Christmas which has become an a-capella must see on UA-cam. I'm so glad you're getting to experience and enjoy these amazing artists and that you're sharing the excitement you have with us!
No, the producer of the show said they never had a “country” group and said if they want to advance- they need to be labeled as “country a capella” group.
Saw this when it originally aired and I knew they would win.
Actually they were guaranteed a spot on the show IF they agreed to be "the country band" and still Tim and Rob said no, Austin and Chris said yes so it came down to Adam deciding. Tim said later he was never so glad to be outvoted and this performance was the one where they began to believe they could win. I can't believe you didn't fall down the HF rabbit hole because it is a fun and fabulous place to explore.

I think they are so much more than country now. They covered Bruce Springsteen's Born In The USA. They have covered John Mayer's In The Blood., Andy Grammar's Honey I'm Good.. And, just this week, they covered Huey Lewis & The News with Working For A Living. That's just to name a few other songs than just country.

I watched the sing of long time ago and fell in love with the show and home free. It didn't air in the netherlands but found it on yt ☺ and I'm happy I did.. I love acappella groups. Ty for sharing!
This was only the 2nd week of the competition, but it was obvious to everyone they had won it then, and it was theirs to lose...they were the clear favorites. Yes that was HUGE to have those judges, who were very qualified to judge this competition, that kind of praise was huge. To be compared to Michael McCary was high praise indeed. And remember this was LIVE in front of judges & 400 or 500 people in the audience. No stopping & starting over it was live TV. Takes nerves of steel to do it. They did win and got I believe $100,000 & a contract from Sony worth $250,000 a year or more depending on how well they performed on the charts. 1 year after the show they had the #2 selling country album.
Street Corner Symphony is a good a cappella group, Chance was with them before he joined Home Free.

Tim the bass actually has a 5 octave range. They were truly amazing singers and they have gotten so much better through the years. They were my favorite group on the show and I told everyone that they were going to win. And if they didn't I would never watch the show again. They did win and then the show was canceled. I love this live version. Tim kills it and they sound so good live. I would say they’re country but its not all they sing. They can sing anything, R & B, country, gospel, pop. Try Blue Ain’t Your Color, How Great Thou Art, Country Fried Pop Medley. I also love that all of them can sing and switch leads on many songs. Great Reaction TV!

HF is awesome, that’s why they did the cover for Boyz to Men, End of the Road. Each of Sing Off episodes were great. I love HF and PTX the best. Every body has there own opinion though. I saw this when it first aired and fell in love with them as l am a country girl. I also really liked Voice Play and have followed both since the sing off. I enjoy this version more than the music video as 1 it is live and 2 Tim hits a lower note at the end on this version then he does in the video. I love Avi Kaplan and he add to the song in the video but not enough for me to like it more.
