    thought I'd have to defend my boy Price. He deserves to be on this list and I agree. Also nice to see Sale and Porcello as well. Great vid!

    I like this list, but I think Darvish should be a little lower, because he did not pitch a full year but he could be great next year so I understand why he is in his spot. I also think that Carlos Martinez should be on this list, he was an allstar and he had an era just over 3. I also like Kenta Maeda, Danny Duffy, and Jake Odorizzi, but they are probably top 30-40 pitchers. This was a good video and I think you should make videos for every position.

      Okay, and yes I can see the point you're making and those other pitchers you mentioned were definitely considered. I most likely will do one of these lists for every position. Thank you for watching!

    I'd have Scherzer start over Kersh any day. And Bum over Sale, great video though.

      You're saying 2 different things. You said you'd take Scherzer over Kershaw any day. None of the 30 mlb managers would do that.

    • @damonwatt4420
      @damonwatt4420 8 років тому

      pilot88pro considering that Kershaw didn't pitch a full year, Scherzer was the best this year. And when he is on, I'd have him on the mound over Kershaw.

    • @pilot88pro
      @pilot88pro 7 років тому

      You can't be serious. You must be a Nats fan to say that. The 149 innings Kershaw did pitch were arguably the best in this history of baseball.
      Once again do you want him for 1 game or the whole season. We saw how Scherzer did in your "1 game" in the playoffs vs Kershaw. Yea...he lost to Kershaw....IN THE PLAYOFFS lol.

    Weird to see Keuchel, Greinke, Archer, Gray, Felix & Harvey not make this list from a 2015 and/or general career perspective. Aaron Sanchez has phenomenal stuff, but is he ready for 200 IPs every year? Also, walks have previously been an issue. It's too soon for Fulmer to make this list. Glad to see a bounce back projection for Cole Train.

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому

      Well, Gray has terrible mechanics and I don't believe his success is sustainable. Keuchel I simply don't trust. He had one phenomenal year but besides that there isn't a whole lot there besides shoulder issues. Archer was #26 here, but I worry about him as well. Look at the down velocity, look at how he lost his cammand etc etc. Harvey was also a very close snub, but after throwing around 200 innings right after tommy john and then having a terrible 2016 where his velocity was down to the low 90's (terrible sign) and on top of that having this weird surgery that has ended the careers of a few other major league talents worries me to a great degree. Felix has been declining for over a year and a half now and I am unsure about his ability to bounce back (he's one of my favorites I hope he does). I believe Sanchez IS ready for 200 innings. Big guy, solid mechanics, easy arm action, and wicked stuff all points highly upward to me. His secondary numbers are phenomenal as well. Much the same case with Mr.Fulmer. I see your argument against him, but I believe he has a similar case to Sanchez just in a smaller workload and I guess I could've moved him down a tad. Well, there you go haha

    • @MattPeters80
      @MattPeters80 8 років тому

      Thanks for the response. I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with you on those name drops. I was intending to show how quickly ratings can change by the year. Excited to see how it all shakes out this year, but lighten up on Sonny. It was apparent fatigue and inability to find a rhythm haunted him all year. I don't remember a start where he had everything working like he has/should (I watched many of his starts). He should bounceback into ace discussion despite his low K rate once he gains early confidence and shows fastball command.

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому +2

      Captain Ahab I agree, and it's a blast watching that kid pitch when he's on. I remember when him and my personal favorite pitcher Justin Verlander faced off in Oakland in game 2 of the 2013 division series in which both went 8 shutout innings. Absolutely wicked. I truly hope he does come back and it was just fatigue. I just don't know with his mechanics how long he will last. They're comparable to Strasburg's who has been a flop to say the least due to his insane amount of injuries that is a direct result from his mechanics. Then again, we have seen certain pitchers with bad mechanics last a while so we really don't know. Looking back I probably could've slotted him in at 25 and dumped Hill who doesn't have a large workload. Again though this is by no means a perfect list nor am I claiming it to be. Just a fun thing I put together with some free time that is somewhat accurate. Thank you so much for the constructive criticism and I'm glad we were able to discuss this without BS name calling and shouting matches haha

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому +1

      Captain Ahab also one other minor note that concerns me with Gray is his small frame. I'm not sure if his body is capable of handling the workload of an ace over a long period of time. Again, we will learn with time as you said yourself

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому +1

      noah strand that's the one man I ended up having to leave out begrudgingly. But bottom line is, you trust any one of these 25 pitchers more than tanner roark at this point. Had a great year. Definitely would be top 30 though

    • @noahstrand9069
      @noahstrand9069 8 років тому +1

      I get the logic there, but Tanner came 10th in CYA voting, so not sure if Baseball Writer's Association would agree with you on that one, but oh well. I like Scherzer at #2 though!

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому +2

      noah strand well I find holes in your argument. Number one, the writers association isn't very accurate. Just look at how this years AL act Young voting turned out. Verlander was robbed. Look at previous years as well. If you're going off the writers, you might as well blindfold yourself, take a dart and throw it at a target filled with pitchers to make your list. Secondly, you don't look past last year. Roark had one really good year last year, but I need another year or more to include him in the top 25. All of these pitchers have track records of consistent reliability year in and year out. Roark doesnt. He also doesn't have the stuff that here guys do so his ceiling isn't as high. I don't believe he belonged on the list at all

    • @seanmatrai2502
      @seanmatrai2502 7 років тому

      Well I think that Roark has had his on and off moments throughout his career but that I think is mainly because he has had to switch to the bullpen through part of it. I think that is why he is kept off but I can definitley see him in the 25 and thats coming from a Mets fan

    • @seanmatrai2502

      Just drafted JV too. I love his stuff and he will be an excellent third starter on my pass the k's to the right team.
      On Team B I have a rotation of
      Syndergaard
      Kluber
      Verlander
      Mc Cullers(I think he will have a great season)
      Velasquez(K machine when healthy(being the key)

      BP
      Miller
      Betances

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  7 років тому

      Jeffisyourhero hmmm don't think so. If we were making a "stuff" list absolutely he's number 1. If we are making a list off of both past PERFORMANCE and my personal projections he's top 10 but 10,9 or maybeeeee 8. He doesn't have a lot of service time and has already struggled with bone spurs. I don't trust his health even with his mechanics. He even said he want to try to throw harder in 2017. All I see with him are elbow problems and shoulder strains. Need to see more as well to rank him above anyone in the top 6 or 7

    • @YakFactory

      Baseball Worldwide let's discuss post-2017 season

    • @seanmatrai2502
      @seanmatrai2502 7 років тому

      14-9 2.60 218 ks 5.0 k to walk ratio isn't performing at 24 WAR 6. Yea he is a potential walking TJ but so are a lot of young pitchers in the game. You can't say "well a young pitcher who throws hard can't be higher than 10 because he is a long term risk at TJ".
      By the way as mentioned the 2017 wild card Noah was frightening to see

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  7 років тому +1

      well wouldn't you agree that some pitchers are more vulnerable to having arm problems than others? Especially when hes already had some elbow issues?

    • @seanmatrai2502
      @seanmatrai2502 7 років тому

      Yea I understand where you are coming from. Generally pitchers who do throw with that kind of power and velocity are generally more vunerable to those kinds of problems. We just saw Alex Reyes go for TJ surgery this season and have seen pitchers such as Tallion, Harvey. Strasburg, and Fernandez go for the same surgery. It's almost like saying somone with a bad immune system is more vunerable to catching a cold.
      However with that being said I wouldn't rank Noah lower for it. Many (not sure about yours) ranked Fernandez(god rest his soul) in the top 3 every year in the majors and he threw hard too along with that wipeout slider.
      I could understand if Noah was consistently dealing with these kinds of issues but it has been maybe once or twice off and on. Plus he had been throwing that hard in the minors aout 97-98 so that leaves me not to be as worried about him as someone like De Grom or Matz who had been dealing with these issues through their whole minor leauge stints.
      For Noah now it's about performance and overall stuff. I think we agree on the overall stuff being their one of the best 4 seamers in the leauge(overall command+consistent velocity) +slider and +curveball and leauge average changeup. The performance has been there too 3.24 era in rookie season 166 k's in 150 innings, 1.9 walks through 9 10.0 k's through 9. The only thing you could argue is his Babip significantly rose from .279 to.334 which you would like to see drop this season, and his ability to slow down the stolen base game which i will explain in the next paragraph. The FIP took a nosedive though from .325 to .229 which could make the Babip become a little less relevant.
      The ability to steal bases has been a problem but you can fix that as well as limiting his TJ proneness in 1 shot. The Mets could or may already be trying to lower the Leg kick so it goes up halfway rather than the waste. This allowing Syndergaard to throw quicker to the plate and slowing that velocity down a bit. He could also delay his pitch delivery to the plate once in a while.
      Overall I think he is in the top 5 now but you are entitled to your own opinion. I can see your argument I just personally don't agree with it.

      mlb king Felix is one of my favorite pitchers but he has hit a sharp decline over the past year and a half. The velocity is far down and his command has began to diminish as well. The stuff isn't the same either. And Darvish dropped a few spots because of the Tommy John and the shoulder issue. Tanaka was healthy the whole year and put up great numbers in Yankee stadium with a shaky Yankee defense. If it was strictly on potential, of course darvish would be much higher

  • @Y0UG0TR3KT
    @Y0UG0TR3KT 8 років тому

    I agree with most but I don't think JV should be this high on the list. My biggest point is he is just getting a little old. He's gonna be 34 this year and he might not have much gas left in the tank for 2017 and he might have a big down season.

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому

      Y0UG0TR3KT I disagree with every point you made there. Yes the fact that he is getting older may seem to the common fan as a downside, but if you watched him this year and how drastically he progressed, there is no doubt in my mind he's going to be contend for the Cy Young again next season. What am I talking about? 1. The velocity is back! Early in the year he maxed 95-96, however in September he was hitting 98-100 again late in ballgames. This along with a FEW more clicks on his slider and curve leave no doubt that the stuff is back and better than ever. 2. His mechanics! Early in the year and in his down year (2014), his mechanics were just off and different from what they used to be. This was due to that surgery he had on his core muscle in January of 2014. Think about how much you use your core when throwing a baseball. Finally in 2016, his mechanics look like they used to and with that came the velocity. 3. He showed no signs of decline at all in the last 4 months of the season. His ERA after the ASG was under 2! In august and September it was under 1.5! He DOMINATED the AL the entire second half and his stuff got better each start. He showed no signs of tiredness to me at all in any form. I find it hard to believe he'll take that much of a step back after the dominance he displayed last year.

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому

      Y0UG0TR3KT also, I mean, look at the secondary stats besides ERA and Wins. Signs a pitcher is decline are high FIP, High walk rate, Declining strikeouts, high WHIP, high BAA etc. in ALL but 1 of these categories he was too 3 in the league in. 3 out of 5 he WON. He didn't put runners on base, he didn't give up hits, didn't walk guys, and he struck out a TON of batters

    • @Y0UG0TR3KT
      @Y0UG0TR3KT 8 років тому

      Baseball Worldwide I see your points there, this is coming from a Tigers fan myself (even though it might not look like it :P). And if I'm not mistaking he led the AL in strikeouts.

    • @baseballworldwide9439
      @baseballworldwide9439  8 років тому

      Y0UG0TR3KT yes, indeed he did, Im telling you man, He still has plenty of gas left in the tank after those injury-plagued years. One thing I forgot to mention, he really has been dominating for a year and a half. Remember how he finished in 2015? The one hitter, hitting 100 mph 4 times against the white sox etc etc

      pilot88pro don't agree at all. How dominant he was throughout last year was unbelievable. I mean, look at the stuff. It's back man and with those mechanics he can last another few years. Just look at how he finished in case you're wondering if he started to wear down. September his ERA was under 1.4 and in his last 3 starts he had an era of under 1. He also hit 100 mph 5 different times in those last 3. In case you were wondering, he hadn't hit 100 since 2013 and his previous high for the year was 98 which he hit multiple times. He was ready to go another 100 innings and if you look at him physically, he has the physical build to keep going.

Darvish was slightly underrated. Hamels was at the perfect spot though. Quintana's being overrated. David Price is being slightly underrated. Degrom is at a pretty good spot. Cueto is at a pretty good spot. Even as a jays fan all say you overrated Sanchez a bit. Arrieta was slightly underrated. Syndergard as well was slightly Underrated. Same with Kluber. Hendricks was really overrated at spot number 8 I think Lester and Arrietta are better than him. Same with Porcello Price is better than him. Bumgarner was underrated a bit. same with Lester quite a bit overrated. Same with Verlander. Where in the world is Stephan Strasburg. Scherzer is the perfect contendent for spot number 2 and obviously Kershaw is number 1
