Or more precisely, nobody seems to have had a great idea for a sequel, nor did the original movie leave anything unfinished that needed to be resolved in a sequel. It was a perfectly good stand-alone. But the studios, or the investors, aren't willing to take a risk on anything new, so they decided to force an uninspired retread on an existing property. The irony is that people are waking up to the fact that this makes for bad movies, and aren't going to see them. They've been burned too many times over the last few years. So this play-it-safe approach ends up being a worse financial risk than what we had in years past: investing in new original films, and by doing so risking the occasional flop, but across the industry as a whole maintaining a constant flow of new interesting movies that people want to risk their time and money on. Without that effort to develop of new content, people have lost faith in Hollywood's ability to reliably provide entertainment. They have checked out of the idea of even going to the movies as an activity, much less cinema as an art form. They need to earn our trust back, and this looks like a cynical cash grab.

It's amazing how easy it is for Ryan to completely own Jeremy in an argument. Ryan was 100% on point with his comments about the Acolyte. There were things that could have made the show less nonsensical. Could the show ever be a 10? NO. Could it have been a 3 or 4 instead of a complete 0...probably.
As for Gladiator 2....yeah, the trailer takes a stupid turn with the music....BUT....I think too many people are overlooking the fact that Pedro scumbag Pascal is in it. People DON'T LIKE HIM!!!!! He is the main reason I would avoid watching the movie.

It is so sad that people have come to this point that they hate Star Wars and Lucas Film. They hate it! Who would have thought this would happen? Especially, before Lucan Film was sold to Disney and Kennedy took charge. Who would have thought that this beloved franchise would go down like a burning Boeing 747? It is so sad.
They don't hate Star Wars. They hate Disney Star Wars. They're two different things that only share a name.
Ryan & Jeremy were both right. The Acolyte is bad in its fundamental conception, in the reasons why it was made, the agenda behind it. But also, the show’s agenda led to incompetent people being hired to write (and act), because they were chosen not for their ability but for their identities and ideological purity. That incompetence has led to many unforced errors. So on the one hand, stilted dialogue, poor pacing, characters we don’t care about, and a lack of consistency between characters actions and any kind of logical motivations, those all point to incompetence, and competent writers would not have made these errors. On the other hand, many of the problems in the show are a direct result of the fact that the writers are crazy people, infected with the mind-virus of Postmodernism (wokeism), and so nothing makes sense in this world view. This is the worldview that has LGBTQ morons protesting in favor of Hamas, who would kill them given any opportunity to do so.
So an example of how this plays out is the writers trying to make the Jedi out to be bad, but everybody else ends up seeming worse, and the “guilty” Jedi seems to kill himself for no reason. A competent, non-pod-person writer might have left the Jedi overall as good, but added an eager young Jedi, who means well but screws up in a real way, then tries to hide it, putting him in a dilemma, one he struggles with and perhaps falls short due to some character flaw. Maybe a friend finds out, and is put in a bigger dilemma: personal loyalty vs the strict moral code of the Jedi. That would make for an interesting story without fucking up the lore, without upending the Jedi as a force for good in the galaxy. But no, Leslye and the other writer had an agenda: to make the Patriarchy (even if it seems awfully female) out to be bad, and the outcasts to be celebrated. It’s so queer-coded it isn’t even coded, but it’s in a larger Postmodernist ideological context there is no good or evil, only a struggle for power.
And that is why this doesn’t work, why it can't work. Star Wars isn’t about space ships, or the Force, or Jedi, or Sith, or lightsabers. It is about good triumphing over evil, as it was in the 50’s space operas and similar serials that George Lucas loved as a kid. But Postmodernism is inherently nihilistic, does not believe in good or evil, only a struggle for power and oppression of groups of various identities. It cannot be reconciled with the idea of good triumphing over evil, if it's adherents do not even believe good and evil exist.
But this is fundamental to Star Wars. You can take Star Wars and set in in early medieval France, sub out lightsabers for swords, Luke, Han, Obi Wan, Leia, and Anakin/Vader for Roland, Olivier, Turpin, Alde, and Ganelon, the Empire for the Saracens, and the Force for the divine will of God/Holy Spirit, and you have something very like the Song of Roland. These are eternal themes that work no matter the time or place, due to the unchanging aspects of the nature of the human condition, good, evil, justice, freedom, etc. The Acolyte ultimately fails because the ideology of the show-runners contravenes the principles of compelling storytelling, and specifically those elements that make Star Wars - a “chanson de geste” (song of heroic deeds) set in space - work . No amount of technical competence in writers could overcome that inescapable conflict that prevents the show from working as Star Wars.
This is what Disney doesn't get about the IP they bought. This is why they fail.
And you should absolutely read that last in Yoda's voice.

To be fair, as cringy as the Gladiator 2 trailer is being played to rap, let’s not forget the initial commercials for Gladiator had Kid Rock’s Bawitdaba playing in the background with comparisons to sports clips of hockey fights and NFL hits. I almost didn’t go see the movie in theaters because of those early tv spots. Only went because a bunch of friends wanted to go see it and I knew Ridley Scott was the director…walked out like “what in the heck did I just see?”…in the best of ways.

I'm not going to say Gladiator 2 was the worst idea ever, with Denzel Washington I think it might have worked. But apparently they spend $310 MILLION making it. THAT is the insane part. That basically means you have to make $800 million or more just to break even, and it sure as heck ain't coming anywhere close to that. John Wick is a success, but that's because they kept the budgets at $100 million or less, so they make money by a WW box office of ~$440 million on #4. Spend $300 mil making John Wick 4 and its an unmitigated disaster. Always keep your budget grounded in reality.
I can see Ryan's point about how the show COULD have been better, but I also see Jeremy's point that no amount of changes would have ever fixed the show as a whole because Lesbian Headlamp would have never instituted ANY of the changes because it would have gone against the entire purpose of making the show, and that was to make a political statement and advance the Alphabet Soup cause. IMO, the disagreement was a matter of semantics more than anything else.

I could even have believed it if he was a Moor or something like that. Like its a period piece. The Roman Empire had all cultures in their ranks. From Spaniards to North African... I love how Lucasfilm (KennedyFilm) is too afraid to say Midichlorians outloud in their shows, but they're fine with all the other unbelievable garbage they put in the same shows. Midichlorians may be divisive, but they don't hold a candle to the trash Disney has done to the franchise.

The amount of hate watchers may be above or under 10,000 viewers, no more than 50,000, no less than 1,000.
The statement stands that it is a sort of support for viewership. But even if all of them stopped watching, it wouldn't have a significant effect on the views, in my personal opinion.
But having a dozen or two dozen reviewers watch it and relay what occurs instead of subjecting yourself to time being lost and never regained. Does a service by not increasing the views of The Acolyte.
The heroes of this story are those spreading the word on just how bad this really is.

Salvation didnt have the feel of a Terminator film, just like T3 didnt. And both just didnt have believable John Connors, T3 wrote him as a whiner and Christian Bale was just himself in it.
As a Termintor fan I wanted a future war Terminator movie that had the same tone and look like Kyle Reese's flashbacks, with skulls on the ground set at night with the resistance fighters being stealth while the endoskeleton Terminators hunted them among post nuclear rubble. Salvation failed, its just a generic cash grab. T3, T4, Genysis and Dark Fate belong in the bin. At least the Sarah Connor Chronicles series paid homage and built off of the first two movies and used the blue and silver tones and a metalic mechanical score like Brad Fidel's of the first two movies.
Maaan, we need that "future war" terminator movie so badly. The kind of movie you imagine when you see the beginning of T2 after the skull crushed by the foot.

Tony is better because yes he is consistent with his skill, thus better. Ridley is hit or miss and even his best or more popular movies are hurt by his terrible pacing. Pacing is supposed to be fixed in the editing room but Ridley still has never improved on that. He has a lot of duds under his belt so I wonder is his best works are due more to the competent scripts and or crew than him 🤔
