Torbin suffered severe PTSD after being mind-r*ped by Mae's mom. After 16 years of living with that trauma, Mae shows up and gets him to off himself because of the "guilt" he felt for being victimized. These writers have no idea what they're actually writing.
It's just Holywood psycho-weirdos writing what they know.
The screwed up thing is they may know. They're working for Harvey's personal assistant after all. Perpetrators gonna victim blame.

I love the incredulity that every single commentator (even in channels where they defended the show) had with episode 3 because it looked so absurd, and it turns out the situation was just as absurd as it looked.
Actress: She is a powerful leader. She is a good person. Yass yass!
The character: the first thing she does is to antagonize the jedi by mind r*****ing the young lad.
She does this BEFORE there's any tension being cranked up in the scene.
So much focus on self inserting themselves into this universe, it's appalling really.
OMG your totally right. If she wanted them to leave why didn't she order them to leave FIRST...then if they refuse I suppose she could resort to her evil torture. Just torturing him to begin with just tells me she was always an evil monster.
She's such a powerful leader, she dies after one episode through her own fault.

I'm aghast and a little fascinated at how poorly this show conveys its ideas. They clearly intend for this to all be a tragic misunderstanding built on unfair suspicions and misreading of the situation, but then witches respond to tense situations by turning into smoke demons and dissolving children, only to be shocked when this is read as hostile. It's like I'm facing armed police, I pull out a flamethrower and snarl "it's on!", and then I'm shot and as I die I say, "but I was going to descalate the situation! This is a tragic misunderstanding!"
But have you considered that witches turning into an evil black fog and possessing a furry character might've been their only joy in life?

You are making The Room look a little more cohesive.
It's even worse than that: you would be _actively shooting_ with the flamethrower, an innocent bystander would be engulfed in flames...and then once shot, you'd declare "No, that was a secret type of fire that was actually helpful and completely harmless! It just _happens_ to look indistinguishable from napalm!"
So the show just lied to us. Glass Onion-style.
Obviously this episode is trying to show us that Mae was innocent the whole time. But instead of showing us the same event from different points of view, they omit details, change lines, and the timing of events to convince you.
In episode 7 they conveniently cut to other action with Sol so that they can cut out the shot in episode 3 where Mae tells Osha "I'll kill you."
The smashing of the lantern happens at different times; In episode 3 Osha runs to the window and screams "Mama, Help me" before the lantern smashes (establishing she is afraid for he life before the lantern even breaks). In episode 7, the lantern smashes Osha says "What are you doing?" (Implying she isn't panicked and instead just doesn't understand what's going on.) before she *silently* runs to the window.
In episode 7 Mae screams for Mama to help with the fire. In episode 3 she is silent.
The timing of Sol's arrival at the bridge is different. He doesn't yell to both Osha and Mae in episode 3, but he does in 7. He also clearly runs in and only attempts to hold up Mae's half of the bridge in episode 3. He doesn't attempt both like he does in 7. For clarification, I'm not saying they edit around him trying to save both first, It's literally a different take.
I don't know if you can get more explicit than removing Mae's threat to kill her sister and Osha screaming for help. They lied.
If this was a clever writer, I could see them saying the diffrences are due to sol's retelling in episode 7, and Mae's retelling in episode 3. But I highly doubt that's what they are going for. Especially with the whole Darth sexy island stuff

@@kingawesome5219 Because no one "told" either episode and there are multiple POV's within each episode. (Ex; if Sol is telling the story; Sol can't know Mae accidentally started the fire by dropping the lantern. And if Mae is telling the story; She can't know what Sol did at the Jedi camp)

He was just still super pissy that he had to spend 7 weeks on that planet even thought they could have easily flown home every evening and come back the next day.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but here it goes, to be fair to the Acolyte🤢🤮. They have actually treated lightsabers with the props they deserve. It shouldn't have to have the baggage of other Star Wars shows' dumb decision to make lightsabers be useless. When you get stabbed by them, you die.
Agree with this take. The acolyte is hot garbage that never should’ve been made, but at the very least people die when they get stabbed by light saber.

The acolyte HAD to kill with the lightsabers in these instances (the witch lady in 7 and all the Jedi in episode 5).
If Smilo’s lightsaber had left anyone alive after that level of damage (Jeddick I think her name was?), Leslie would have managed to further nerf Lightsabers.
And if the “Smoke Demon?” Had survived a lightsaber, you would now have another entity (besides force ghosts) immune to lightsabers…
Can force ghosts be killed by lightsabers? I don’t know if I want that answer.
Leslie ironically got put between a rock and a hard place with her own actions. She wanted “tragedy”, but at the same time I don’t think she realized how many storylines she let wilt when they were barely seedlings.
Lightsabers ironically had so much power they killed her story just as hard as she did.

The things in this show that weren't predictable were the things where we said, "there's no way they'd be that dumb and predictable", but then they were.
They sure fooled us!
This isn't a mystery, this is mystery box storytelling, except they forgot the most important part of the JuJu Abram's grift (who writes stories like he's selling a fly-by-night Ponzi scheme), and that is *never reveal what's actually in the box.* Lesley Squareheadland (accomplice of Harvey Weinstein) showed us what she put in the box, then showed us the exact same thing she put in the box, like she thinks of her target audience as infants who haven't grasped the concept of object permanence and are genuinely surprised by peek-a-boo.
Remember that it takes about 20 minutes to get to Coruscant from the outer rim in Disney Star Wars. There was no reason for them to be "roughing it" and desperately homesick when they could commute to the planet every day with no trouble.
Not to mention missing the giant ass castle that towers over the landscape, and is within walking distance. That they somehow missed for 7 weeks.
20 minute still seems long for the way they mess with time here...
Or why they wouldn't have proper rations or camp out instead of being in their ship and moving around in it. This planet is clearly not densely forested so it should be easy to check a place fly to the next and check again. Also with all their technology they can't scan the planet for ineteresting spots and need to take random moss samples, walk around with a metal detector, etc. instead of looking for a MASSIVE FORCE PHENOMENON with the force. Also the basic sample collecting and looking could be done by a proper team of scientists instead of wasting the time of Jedi or attach a Jedi to a proper team of scientists. It being a force event doesn't mean a planet coming back to life is only of interest to the jedi. A planet being livable is also of intersst to neighbouring systems for potential habitation and resourcess.

The idea of a 20 minute commute from coruscant to the outer rim just destroys the scope and size of the universe.

This episode clearly demonstrates how messed up the morality of the writer and Leslye is. They really thought that this episode would show the witches to be good and the Jedi to be evil, but wrote an episode showing the exact opposite.
She comes across as the type that would say we should respect the traditions of the Aztecs while some poor sucker has his heart ripped out in the background.

The morality of this episode is so funny. The Jedi are clearly in the right from start to finish, based on the events depicted. Hollywood truly has no idea what good and evil is anymore. They see good as evil, completely. The inversion is hilarious.

Well, the thing is they did actually think it was uninhabited up until about ten minutes before then, which is seriously bizarre, they should have known it was inhabited
Sol broke in before. He saw everyone living there. He then went back to camp, then they went back to the big fortress, then they break in and say "we didn't think anyone was living here." But they knew before they broke in.
They should have rung the bell, not break into someone's home and claim "we didn't know you were here."

I get that they thought the planet was uninhabited when they landed, but they use the line after breaking into someone's house. If they really thought the planet was uninhabited, they would be there in the daytime. No one goes exploring uninhabited planets with abandoned buildings in the middle of the night. Especially not if the building is locked with an electrical lock.
There is no urgency and thus absolutely no reason not to be asleep. Come back during the day. Moreso if any evidence of habitation is found. You do not break in in the middle of the night.
What I'm trying to say is that merely by being there at the time they are, the witches can disprove the statement.

Yea, I feel for the Padawon surrounded by morons.

So what you are saying is...they tried to make the Jedi evil, but they missed.

Its been a while since I heard it, but I think it was a UA-camr named PlagueOfGripes who said something like "Bad writers writing moral greys is just them whiplashing from pitch black to stark white at random" You see this alot with half-assed redemptions like in He-Man:Revelations when Evilyn goes from killing heaven (yes really) and trying to annihilate all of existence to giving that up and walking happily into the sunset.
This show has somehow outdone that by having them do things that are pitch black and then going "wow arent the Jedi messed up" when they react to the information that was given. The writers have shown a lack of understanding common sense and basic morality
Based on the position of moral relativity, slavery, genocide, racism, sexism, rape, domestic violence, and more is just a matter of perspective. Moral greyness is a precursor to atrocities.

It's just now hitting me in full: Disney doesn't get the Force because they're applying the wrong philosophy to it. They're insisting that dark and light are yin and yang instead of good and evil.

The thing is, they're insisting it's yin and yang without any knowledge of what yin and yang are. If you asked the writers I'd give them a 50/50 chance of knowing which one's white and which one's black.
The writers are clearly in the camp who think that "balance in the Force" means "equal parts light side and dark side." That's not at all how it works. "Balance" means "only light side." The dark side is a cancer that corrupts everything and everyone. The Jedi and their philosophy should not tolerate any of it. The Council should never have told them to leave them be. The Jedi on the planet should have been reacting to the clear use of the dark side. Everything that occurred should have occurred as they were trying to stop the spread of the dark side and save the kids if possible. The Star Wars universe has absolute morality. Light side is inherently good. Dark side is inherently bad. Palpatine's line on a "point of view" is just him saying "well, it's good for me, because I'm a selfish bastard, so I'm gonna call it good." That's not goodness. It doesn't fit the objective, absolute morality of the rest of the universe. It's him lying to Anakin to entice him.
Yeah fringy is going green in the face repeating that the Light side is the force in balance, while the Dark side is corruption, but I see a lot of people including Leslie in interviews thinking we need equal parts good and evil to balance things like it's a political spectrum 😂

The whole point of this episode was to give us a different perspective and make us see the Jedi as the bad guys, but it utterly failed.
And I found it hilarious that Mae is still responsible for trying to burn her sister alive and destroying the fortress. If the witches didn’t die from Master Indara disconnecting them, they certainly died from Mae destroying the fortress.
I can't believe they didn't have the Jedi do 1 action that we could say "Yeah that's definitely wrong & they'd be harshly punished for that". The show seems to think it's Sol stabbing the evil smoke demon disintegrating the child....I disagree. If I was a Jedi Master reading this mission report & it described everything that happened my only comments would be:
Torbin: Maybe you need to get counciling for when you're away from home, you seemed abit too uneasy.
Sol: You possibly care abit too much about innocent children. I have no further advice, great work killing that smoke demon by the way.
Trinity: You seem really dismissive of your Padewan when he was tortured. Don't let that happen again or if it does treat it the same way as if they started force choking you.
Kel-Naka: I think we need to get you a Magneto helmet but otherwise seems like you didn't do anything wrong buddy. I hope you don't feel any guilt for this.
All in all team I think you had a pretty successful mission. Shame the other child died but from what Sol sensed it seems like she might have already been corrupted by the dark side if she tried to burn her sister to death. Wiping out that evil lesbian communist space witch cult seems like a net positive for the galaxy, you all get gold stars. Obviously in the future I'd recommend scanning the planet for life before spending 7 weeks studying moss but I'm not gonna tell you how to do your job, if you like spending that long away from the Jedi temple then you guys do you.

I stumbled across a Nerdrotic tweet where he replayed the scene of the disconnection with the audio commentary playing over it, which flat-out refers to the witches as "lifeless bodies" when they drop after Indara disconnects them from Kelnaka.

It's another example of how bizarrely the show communicates its ideas . The point, presumably, is supposed to be that the two factions view one another as a threat and are mutually suspicious, and from that bad choices are made on both sides, resulting in tragedy. Yet they have the most ostensibly diplomatic and reasonable of the witches immediately decide to target the most junior of the Jedi -- not one of the three knights but the adolescent apprentice -- which goes far beyond suspicion and into flat-out villainy.
She F'd around, and soon found out.

Since we only had $180 million, unfortunately, we had to do another flashback episode to save on the budget. This time round, we learn that Jedi Knight Ho Lee Fuk, Jedi Master Dee Dee Jettster (ancestor of Dexter Jettster), Jedi Knight Porkins (also an ancestor of a character) and Padawan Isgonnadie (who wants to go home) were tasked by Chancellor Alan Titchmarsh with doing some landscaping on the Planet Schlurpo 1. Turns out, this is where Good Schlurpo and Bad Schlurpo lived. (Isgonnadie wants to go home)
The coven of space witches, led by Black Anne Boleyn, are not keen on the Jedi's. After some shenanigans, they find out that the twins were created by furious space scissoring, leading to an astronomically high count of Schlurpos. (Isgonnadie wants to go home) The Jedi's decide to take Good Schlurpo into custody. Black Anne Boleyn turns into Imhotep from 'The Mummy' (1999) and tries to eat the Jedi, who attack her. Turns out, this was just a traditional thing to do for her people, and the Jedi's foolishly misinterpreted her cultural greeting. Bad Schlurpo still starts a fire, but we now learn that the rest of the coven died because their Internet Provider cut their wifi.
Sadly, there was no interpretive dance number this week :(

The vaguely competent writer's version: Because the Jedi mistrust witches and are suspicious of potential dark side use, Padawan Torbin rashly escalates the situation by being overzealous in trying to "rescue" the children; because the witches mistrust Jedi just as much, Mother whatshername protects her children with more force than she might otherwise have done; the Jedi have to prevent Torbin's death and in the process a witch or two get killed; it escalates. It's tragedy.
The show's version: Mother whatshername decides to immediately confirm all the Jedi's worst fears by mind-raping someone (specifically targeting the young apprentice); Because he's desperate to go home like a bored six-year-old (and *not* because of the obvious evil he's just been exposed to) Padawan Torbin decides to confirm all the witches' worst fears by kidnapping children. It's farcical.
They made the "misunderstood" witch a blatant villain when it would have been simple to make her genuinely sympathetic, and somehow managed to make Torbin paradoxically both far worse and far more sympathetic than he should have been to make this work.
I forgot to fortify my mind before watching this. Now I want to go home.
A hilarious detail is that horn lady and Tommen continue to stare at each other while Yasss Yasss turns into a literal demon monster. The game engine froze them so the playable character could have his 1v1.

My main question at the end of this is, if this episode is basically Sol telling May what happened 16 years ago, what information did May miss out on. Because she was there at the start of the fight and saw how her mother died. OSHA needed to be in this episode, not May.
My guess is though, the writers are so inept, they are going to make it that because we now know what happened, then OSHA now does as well.

It's not even that the Jedi should have seen that massive mountain base on the planet even from space, the mountain base was an abandoned mining facility. The Jedi should have been aware of a mining facility on the planet from any kind of historical records and what the planet was used for before they ever showed up to do their Force recon mission. There is no way they shouldn't have been aware of the mine and the facility's existence.

The best part is when they said the planet was sterile because of a "hyperspace disaster". Confirming that the reason hyperspace kamikazes are illegal is that the shrapnel traveling through hyperspace has enough energy to destroy a planet, and admitting that Admiral Holdo is a war criminal who risked countless innocent lives.

Dont remember which one, but there was a star wars book about a hyperspace disaster, in which a ship malfunctioned during its jump and was destroyed going through hyperspace. The resulting debris started to annihilate planets and shit in its path essentially. That might be what its trying to reference

Torbin is gon a need counciling after this one. He was mentally manipulated, and after he was mentally affected he made a rush decision that escalated the situation. Then someone he knows is also manipulated and controlled to try and kill him. If I were Torbin I would legit be wondering if any of my actions that day where my own. Just thinking to myself, "they got in my head, I know they did. How do I know I wasn't giving them exactly what they wanted when I went there? They can have such affect that they can make you kill, so what choices where even my own?" Torbin should be completely vindicated. If anything, after this event he would have a deep contempt for any force related system not related to the jedi.

You think the reason why the wookie decided to hide out in the forest is because he was slightly brain-damaged and traumatized by the forceful overriding of his will, hence the repeated engravings of the witch's mark on the walls? Could be that's all he saw/experienced when mind controlled, so he's trying to get that out of his mind by writing it down, but it's not working hence him going off the deep end.
If Wookie lore is still canon, we can also tack on that losing control, even if it was due to dark side bullshit, would probably leave him considering himself a 'Madclaw'. A shameful mantle that, in Wookie society, would see you exiled as a savage, bloodthristy beast.

I honestly think it’s because these characters are female and as far as left wing people are concerned women can do no wrong and shouldn’t be held to standards. So when they do something villainous they assume it’s for good reasons, even if it’s fiction they themselves wrote. It’s the same attitude behind wanda and Reva.
I guess the subversion by accident is that the intent was to make the Jedi bad and the witches good, but the witches came off as bad and the Jedi were attacked first. The witches abused their powers, attacking the Jedi before they even pulled out their weapons or explained their intent. They utterly abused Torbin in mind and then in body by having a Wookie maul him. They did everything wrong while the Jedi were defending themselves and kids they thought were in danger from women who turn into demonic smoke monsters and perform manipulative mind games to get what they want. And apparently using this thread witch "magic" involves becoming part of a hive mind and the whole thing can easily backfire and kill you if one Jedi master breaks their spell. Honestly, the Jedi helped Osha and Mae dodge a bullet before they were turned into a hive-mind smoke demon-witch.
