Good info. It's common to see mint growing everywhere here. I tear the leaves and use them as an indoor room freshener. The music had me visualizing little garden nymphs dancing around. Loved all the bugs!
This was much easier to understand the differences then other sources I've checked. I've never cared for spearmint as much. Recently I bought spearmint and the leaves appeared more flat and shiny, different than I expected.
The music is too loud and annoying: too upbeat for the calm talking and adds nothing to the value of the video (actually takes away). Very good explanation with a good manner and pleasant tone of voice -Thank you.
Exceptional video. The best photography combined with detailed narrative. One of the best comparisons between the two mints I have seen. Nice choice of music but volume was NOT background; loud and ear-piercing. I am saving this video to my library despite the painful music.
He's right.. I was given a small pot of mint plants by my neighbor.. and now I have 6' x 4' in my garden of nothing but mint. I dont have the heart to tear it out because I love the smell and the bees love it. Mint will take over your garden.. the roots are like long vines that connect to each plant that pop up.. so you would have to dig up ALL the roots in order to get rid of it.. A small piece of the root left behind will sprout more mint. Mint can grow in about anything, and everything. I did an experiment growing mint in piles of its own roots.. with no soil and it grew. Its a monster.
for some reason, peppermint always tasted too strong for me, I have sensitive taste buds so whenever I buy gum I always get spearmint flavour or maybe the fruity ones I forgot the name of in the yellow packets
While it's true that spearmint is more applicable for things such as cooking, peppermint has used such as easing (not curing) toothaches/cavities, cooling sunburns and easing the heat felt with a fever if the leaves are crushed and smeared across the forehead.
I tell them apart from how the flowers grow Peppermint the flowers grow around the stems in round clusters and a pointy tip then spearmint the flowers grow in points but not around the stem
Thank you for that validation. My taster gets all mixed up and I don't know what is what, especially of I don't have the two plants side by side to compare. The flowers though, yes mine grow along the stem. Now I know.
Love the music, your voice and the explanation all that made me “Zen” lol. And because of those reasons I will subscribe. I just got spearmint so I want to try it! Thanks for the info P.S: have you done a video with guided meditation? Your voice would be perfect for it! 😊suggestion for success 😊
Lovely video. Thank you. I have ulcerative colitis and NOTHING calms my guts like peppermint tea 😑 I don’t think I would handle ingesting the fibrous leaves of spearmint but it sounds delicious
1:50 I doubt wasps do pollinate small flowers like mint, their mouth is totally different from bees and butterflies. Wasps better will attack beehive and eat ready honey or some fallen sugary fruits.
I'm having healthy sweet ment but it doesn't smell and no test as mint should be also not strong smell as its lost the smell ... is there any solution?
I currently have 2 kind of mint in a same pot, both came from same package and I grow them from the seeds. According to package, they should be same spearmint but one of them has hairy leaves and one is not. Is it possible to spearmint to have both hairy an plain leaves? I'm using spearmint for medical reason so it's important for me to identify them. By the way their taste are similar or it didn't make any difference for me. And thanks for the video.
I put some mint stems that I got from the grocery store in water to plant them after they grow roots, and they started rooting from the whole stem and not only the nodes, should I be concerned? What type of mint is it?😅
That is normal, mint is a fast spreading plant, just plant them like normal and any roots above the soil will dry up, thats fine. You most likely have spearmint, but I could not say for sure.
Hi, you seems to know a lot about mint I want to ask that, some place on the internet said that peppermint is super hard to grow from seed, is that true?
Mint seeds are very small, and smaller seeds can be more difficult to grow. Mint spreads so well from roots, that is the preferred method of growing, but you can grow from seed if you know what you are doing. basically just press them into some potting soil or just dust them so they dont get buried too deep, keep them warm and moist and they should sprout.
Thenk you for this amazing video but I'm still confused bcus I purchased dried spearmint /peppermint. I sent a Pic to Ur fb site profile. I would appreciate if u replied.
They can be used interchangeably, so try a test batch to know the strength of the menthol and use the rest accordingly. If its dried it could be either one, but the flavor fades more than other dried herbs so its going to be hard to tell.
I bought a peppermint plant but it doesn't smell minty as I thought it would be. It has purple/brownies stem and the leaves are rounder. I wonder what kind of peppermint is that? Also, which type of peppermint is used for tea? The one who smells like toothpaste. I'm looking for that and it's hard because peppermint is not common where I live
@Next Step • Hi you are correct, this not peppermint but sweet mint. Peppermint has a purple brown stem. Sweetmint has a green stem. Chocolatemint has a dark brown stem. These 3 types of mints are almost identicle but smell different. Spearmint has long narrow green leaves, grows more upright and smells like chewing gum.
Literally today I got these breath mints, and i got the peppermint version, thinking it was gonna be the sweeter one cus i didn't know the difference. So i just tasted them and obviously i got the more bitter sorta taste, so i came to look at a video explaining the difference, and i found this one. Needless to say i'm angry at myself getting the peppermint instead of spearmint, then again I now know better.
@@GiveitaGrow Yeah, thats what I don't really like about it. I just don't enjoy food that sting/cause pain as I think it ruins the dining experience. P.S: I finally got the spearmint version of the breath mints.

So I'm still feeling a bit clueless. I feel like all he had there was spearmint? I dunno! It would be nice if he edited and added captions saying "spearmint" "peppermint" based upon what's on the screen at that time
Yeah, I only have spearmint. The difference between the two (peppermint vs spearmint) is subtle, especially when you consider different types of spearmint can look completely different.
I had to go to a nursery where all the varieties of mints they had were labeled, and still double-checked with attendant to make sure. Which is the Yerba Buena? I'm thinking it's the Peppermint, but I only bought Spearmint. Will try it anyway. Can't hurt, and hoping it helps my queasiness.

Does it really matter what type of mint that you use in making cocktails such as a mint julep or just when you garnish a drink with mint?
