    This by far the best video series on the T2 engine I have seen so far. You have helped answers a lot of question I have about restoring my 1972 T2 with a replacement engine which I still trying to sort out

    Great thanks for this tutorial from Russia! I have a bus with exactly the same type of engine, the only thing is it's Westfalia

    Fuel breather hoses on these vans are a classic cause of petrol fumes and also fires 😳 While you have the engine out it is worth replacing all of them. I got a WOSP high torque starter motor for my Type 4 and can only recommend them.

      Interesting stuff about the starter upgrade, thanks! Although I've repaired the original for the next vid. You're spot-on about the breathers... they're currently being replaced... with swearing..

    Next time, if you take the carrier bolts out at the top of the gearbox bell housing you can drop the engine down with the gearbox with the engine totally complete. I think you need to undo the small screw for the gearchange linkage and pull the linkage off the front of the gearbox so it doesn't bend.
