Saw the USC band play this in the mid-80s when they played at Notre Dame stadium. My dearly departed husband took me to watch the USC v ND game. Wow! What a show. We were in the stands right by the band. It was an awesome time. I remember how cool it was that the whole band wore sunglasses while they played this. And yes, Notre Dame won!!!
Back in the 1980’s, I used to drive from Sacramento to Los Angeles to meet one of my Uncles for the USC - Norte Dame game when the game was played at Coliseum.
Love Tusk since it first came out, and appreciate USC holding this special legacy. The performances are stronger through positive showmanship over the little jabs at other schools - yet this band and Song squad are still among the best!
“Tusk” was a gift to the world...but it looks like it was also a gift to the USC Marching Band! The band helped turned a good song into a great one, and it’s good to see that they still embrace it.

Strange, I just now realized I'm in love with USC cheerleaders. They look like they're really, really smart, and kind. You can tell the depth of their character just by watching them perform. CEO, MD, & POTUS material, all of them. I'll bet they all volunteer at homeless shelters, food banks, and rescue stray dogs and wounded sea turtles continually. You can tell just by looking at them.

The ONLY thing USC Medical Center has going for it is that they'll do a partial liver transplant, and other leading area hospitals, like Cedar Sinai and UCLA will only do full liver transplants.) Other than that, both Cedars and UCLA Medical Center are superior to USC's center in every conceivable way, both objectively and subjectively. I'm sure those dance squad girls are far too intelligent to become doctors working at USC''s facility. They're probably business CEOs (UCLA does not offer a degree in Business), movie directors and producers (USC's film school is legendary), politicians, dignitaries, astronauts, physicists, rock/movie stars, or any other of the myriad of careers requiring sophistication, worldliness, and extreme intelligence.

I hate to be a naysayer but these aren't cheerleaders. These are the USC Song Girls and they are a dance oriented squad that performs highly intricate choreography. Cheerleaders do stunts and compete at competitions for cheerleaders. These young women are an institution and are a kind of ambassadors for USC.

The song girls are just terrific. They dance so beautifully, gracefully, and in a wonderful feminine manner. Their dancing shows other girls how to be beautiful and sexy, in good taste, with intelligence and grace. A great tribute to USC. I encourage my daughter to attend USC for one reason because USC produces the Song Girls. I would be happy for my daughter to be a USC Song Girl.

The cheer squad has around 20 members each season (16-19 girls and 1-4 boys). Fall semester for the team is mainly dedicated to on campus events and performances, such as Homecoming and Conquest. Spring semester is focused on traveling and attending competitions such as USA Collegiate Championships and NCAA Collegiate Nationals.

Living 1.5 miles north of the LA Memorial Coliseum since birth('68) till 2014. Every so often, the USC band could be heard. "TUSK" would just cut through the air at times. Kinda miss that these days.
My granddaughter is a cheerleader at Sam Houston State University. I'm hoping to watch her do their routine to this song. That's one I won't miss. Probably the best marching band song in history.

Grew up in 60s NOLA and use to walk down Bourbon Street. At that time it was full of strip joints instead of the tee shirt shops it has today. To lure customers in they use to keep the doors open with non-stripping dancers on stage - until they were ready to start the real show. I was too young to go in but as I remember it, I saw the pre-show strippers doing the same dance moves the USC cheerleaders were doing in the above clip even back then.
Tusk: One of the great go-to tunes at the Forum during the Lakers Showtime era of the '80s. Of course, Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss (RIP) was a USC graduate.
My God! Makes me want to dust off my old Drill Team skirt. I loved these older cheerleading/Drill team skirts. They flow so nicely. Not like the skin tight cheerleading skirts they have now.
I miss pleated skirts too. They looked so much better. The straight, stiff, A line skirt has been done now for about fifteen to twenty years. It is time to retire.

Grew up in 60s NOLA and use to walk down Bourbon Street. At that time it was full of strip joints instead of the tee shirt shops it has today. To lure customers in they use to keep the doors open with non-stripping dancers on stage - until they were ready to start the real show. I was too young to go in but as I remember it, I saw the pre-show strippers doing the same dance moves the USC cheerleaders were doing in the above clip even back then.
I was there when they did the original.

My God! Makes me want to dust off my old Drill Team skirt. I loved these older cheerleading/Drill team skirts. They flow so nicely. Not like the skin tight cheerleading skirts they have now.

I miss pleated skirts too. They looked so much better. The straight, stiff, A line skirt has been done now for about fifteen to twenty years. It is time to retire.
Crymommy86 I totally agree with you. My drill team skirt was pleated like this. I loved it then and I love it now. I am not a fan of the tight skirts that always ride up. You can see the girls constantly pulling them down.
