Volvo has the only auto transmission I actually enjoy. Eaton’s just ignore you, Allison’s either argue with you, can’t make up their minds, or just don’t have enough gears, but I-Shift is bloody brilliant. Quick smooth shifts, no ten mph drops while shifting, it just keeps going. Although the cab isn’t the most creative, they look good on the road, drive nice, are comfortable, and our mechanics complain about everything, so can’t speak on their behalf.

I had an '86 N1027 it was a rugged beast a sheet rock truck converted to a log truck. With the T-ride and full lockers it would push mud with the front bumper. If you could spin it over it would start no matter how cold it was. I sold it because parts were expensive and had to come all the way from Belgium.

I know it’s overseas but I’ve been curious about European trucks, many of those are cabovers.... I drove 2 Volvo HD trucks 2003 & 2004 in a ready mix configuration. They were comfortable, had incredible turning capability, good cab features, ISL Cummins with Allison automatics and McNeilus back end. I quit in 05 and my friends who kept working for that company said the fleet (of 70+ Volvo trucks) by 2010 were nearly all parked, all with tons of electronic problems... They went back to Paccar trucks! The Volvo’s were junk long before their time!!

Freightliner and Volvo did NOT "merge". After their first attempt at selling trucks in North America failed, Volvo and Freightliner entered into a "marketing agreement" in the later 70s. This helped both companies. It gave Volvo a North American dealer network and it filled some empty spots in Freightliners model lineup. Later, Volvo purchased the assets of White Motors and took over GMC heavy truck production, thus, White GMC was born. Freightliner kept Western Star after the White Motors buyout by Volvo.

      Mike,
I drove a 1990 WhiteGmc and I liked it. After Volvo took over completely, I didn't like it because they moved many of the controls, all over. The 1990 had everything you needed on a panel on the right hand side. It was easy to learn and easy to find what you wanted. The newer ones had the headlight switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel, and some others on the right side. I hated having to look all over just find a switch

Of all the trucks so far featured, this one seems to have just went forward and never looked back. Other companies struggled and volvo just kept moving forward with concepts that were made popular here later. Whats not to like and so modern. I can tell there was espionage between the companies back then as they all seemed to know when cab overs came and the jeep cabs... the T series of KW and others all seen on the volvo. Great rigs... I would of welcomed working on one even though a mechanic, I never had one of their trucks in my shop

"Most luxerious truck in the world" : is a cramped cabover. Having lived out of a pos 2016 VNL for a month (before quitting) with the RV cushion bed and travesty for a top bunk, garbage stereo, poor ergonomics, shit seats, no, they don't impress me.
"AERODYNAMIC ENHANCEMENTS" : is a caboever.

I don't get the attraction that many drivers have to Volvo tractors. I'm not referring to how they look, looks don't get the job done. I'm referring to function. It's been quite a few years since I've been inside a Volvo but, I just didn't like the layout of the dash and controls (among other things) back then. If things have changed that's great. On the other hand, the 2 that I drove a few times back then soured me on them forever.

Hi mike I agree they were ugly in and out for a while. Square shaped gauges..I didn't drive an older one but I ve driven a few of the last gen models..sometimes you have to wait on parts but for the most part running wise I loved it wide roomy good suspension I had the 77 inch sleeper..fell in love with it..then the company pulled me out of it and sold it because the Warranty was up..then they put me in a DAMN NO FEATURE CASCADIA...I was pissed

Im the opposite. I dont get the love people have for those old woodgrain dashes, 20 gauges, aftermarket seroeos just jammed in. The vinyl cross hatch coverings. Ewww.

If you bought Volvo and check engine did not light, replace. The indicator did not function. But seriously, these are heavy, unreliable, quickly becomes aged, and so on. Nobody (almost) uses 10 years old Volvos. Only if he has no money (but funny fact is that he has money for constant repair of his Volvo ))) In US Volvo is popular only because of emigrant-drivers. Even in Europe drivers prefer Scania, Reno, and Mercedes.

sc0or Rubbish. In Europe Volvos are regarded along with Scania as the best trucks on the road.

what are you talking about..? nobody in their right mind would take a renault (not "reno") over a volvo... even when they both use same engines, same transmissions... renault is cheap, just like iveco... not bad but cheap... scania and volvo are high end brands on europe... honestly I don't know where you hear those things...

From a European perspective you are talking absolute rubbish. Scania and Volvo are most definitely seen and are the premium trucks in Europe. Can't speak for US Volvo's but European volvos are top product. There are plenty of 10 year old FM and FH Volvos still going strong over here.
