Corporate mismanagement seems to be the most common cause of companies failing.... great vid.

Whether intentional or incompetent, certainly the case here. Knudsen and cohorts destroyed White Motor with idiotic decisions that were designed to fail.

I own the WHITE Construcktor as seen in my profile pic. CUMMINS 290, tandem, just a shade over 100,000 miles on her and runs like a champ down the highway. 70 mph on the Interstate with no problem. I love this old gurl ~

Had a ‘70 9000 in the 80s. Stretched it to mount a 3000 gal tank then mounted a dump and finally a flat bed. It’s still owned locally by a farmer. I think they used the same cabs on trucks badged differently for years.

The first trucks my father ever carried us in for a ride a long was the White 4000 trucks. They seemed very large to my brother and I when we where 5 years old. When I started driving in the 80s I parked my W900 next to a 4000 and realize how much bigger the newer truck was at the time.

Back in the early ninties, I drove for a company that had a 1978 White Road Boss with a 318 Detroit and a straight pipe. It was assigned to the low man on the totem pole which was me at the time. Drivers at rest stops hated my azz when I would pull in at 2 am to take a quick nap using the steering wheel as a pillow (daycab). You could hear that truck 1/2 mile away.

If White Motor hadn't been so greedy wanting truck market share (focus was International's Truck market), it might be still in business today. With purchases of Sterling, Autocar, Reo, Diamond T, & later on, GM's Euclid heavy equip division & then absorbing Oliver tractors (Cletrac), they wanted to own every corner of the market, then Volvo stepped in, & look what happened there. BTW, the cabover White 5000 was a full fiberglass built cab (prone to cracking), then came the White 7000, nicknamed the "Japanese Freightliner". Nice video!

Great video! I had the pleasure of driving a White Road Boss with a 903 Cummins for a construction company for a few years pulling a lowboy trailer. A few years later when I drove otr I drove a White Road Commander (Road Commode) with a 400 Cummins. It was the best truck ever!!

The video and information are great! But one of the most unusual White trucks was the 1940 White truck that was converted by the Zacchini family to have a cannon on its roof and traveled the country with ""Hugo: The Human Cannon Ball! It traveled for 50 years across the country and was seen on circus posters and on the cover of magazines. I was his manager so I stood next to that famous truck and made the announcement to the large crowds many times. The truck is now at the Circus Museum in Sarasota, Fl.

That White model 5000 was one unique truck...it had character, but my understanding is that they had several structural problems. I’ve only seen two in real life. Probably still worth saving as part of truck history. 🧐 Love those old trucks! 🥰
