Carpelicious: Carp Fishing AT One Of My Favourite Fishing Spots

  • After chain sawing my way through numerous fallen trees to clear the track in, I made my way to one of my favourite, and most relaxing fishing spots.
    Sure it's only a carp fishing spot, but it is a spot that I love and I always feel relaxed here. Hopefully my relaxed mood is reflected in this laid back carp fishing video.

    Where I grew up a factory discharged water that was used for cooling. Left it out into a lake. The water was warm coming out so we called it the warm waters. Useless in the summer but in the winter that warm water held carp. Other fish too but mostly carp. The preferred method of fishing was a single kernel of corn on a fly rod. Toss a little bit of corn then cast to that. A large carp on a fly rod. WOW. Fun times.

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  11 місяців тому

      Hi mate that is awesome. We have a spot down here near the coast nicknamed "The Warmies" which I believe is a similar setup. I've never been there, but apparently it is the go to place to catch fish in the winter months as warm water is released from a factory, or power station or something.

    • @papeep2694
      @papeep2694 11 місяців тому

      @@robbiefishing I have 2 close to me. One, the warm waters, is a large lake maintained by a paper making factory. The other is a coal fired power plant on the Susquehanna River (named for local native Americans). The power plant is awesome walleye fishing in the winter weather. Other fish as well but walleye is the target species. On the river you can find the native Americans fishing camps. It used to be pretty common to find artifacts around the camps but as more people learned of them they got picked over so today finds are rare. Another common sighting are petroglyphs carved into rocks along the river. Many think they may be markers like in today's terms here is a good place for fish camp. Speculation mostly. The river in my area is fresh water. Going south to Maryland there is "brackish" water where the Chesapeake Bay (named for another tribe) mixes with the river. There when the shad and herring breed you can catch either.

    Pause at 6:56. Mate.... Mate!... 4lb line ... Mate..... Maate!... Your actually killing me with this video. I love your videos and have never disagree with anything you've said or done, I've even learnt I thing or two thanks. I get up around Canberra and rural NSW. Carp is something I've gotten a lot. By far the most caught fish in my life. My rig (easiest rig in the world for carp. Running sinker on 8-10 lb mono leader for as long as your rod so the swivel doesn't go inside the first eye. 10-14 lb braid any colour you want but I prefer green. You can still use your red and white ball if you want.
    Corn is good Dr Brian Pratt once told me to ad aniseed oil to the jar of corn RIP. Didn't notice any difference. Worms are good but you get turtles and other stuff like redfin so on. Bread /dough is also good and I've had mixed results with mud eyes and moon bait worms and trout bait.
    Rant over back to the video.

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  11 місяців тому

      I usually use 6lb for this type of fishing. There's actually quite a lot of difference between 4lb and 6lb. The only reason I used 4 was because that was already on that reel and my 6lb reels were already on other rods.

    Sort have forgotten most people probably wouldn't have had much to do with fibreglass rods, I guess there's enough of them still out there rattling around in cupboards and sheds that you'll come across them. In the really early 80's when I was just starting year 7 in high school I remember buying the best 'new thing' on the market being a graphite Daiwa rod with the alloy runners on it and it may as well have been made of feathers and unicorns compared to the old fibreglass rods. Very impressed and I still have it tucked away with a fairly mediocre Shimano reel on it that was a replacement for something better that I probably lost or broke.
    Though I did pay about 30 bucks for that rod which was fairly horrendous amounts of saving up for about half a year
    I don't think I could get a new Daiwa rod for that much these days, might have to save up for about half a year again :)

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  11 місяців тому +1

      WOW $30 would have been a lot of money in the early 80s. I remember in the mid 80s my Mum would give my brother and I $2 each to buy our lunch at school every Wednesday.
      For my $2 I would get a hot-dog, a Sunny Boy, a packet of Burger Rings and a can of coke. It was $2 even. So $30 must have been a lot of money. Haha

      Every Saturday dad would take me to work at the time which was a glazier/windscreen replacement so after a morning of cleaning up a few hundred kilos of broken glass I'd get 2-3 bucks.
