For a job promotion, I have been asked to respond to an email, attaching my "resume with cover letter." Currently I have my cover letter and resume on two different docs. Do you think I should respond to the email attaching the separate docs or shall I combine them both as a single attachment?
Victoria Mendoza I always do two separate files. Often times they'll need to share your resume with others on the hiring committee, and it just makes it easier if it's a separate document.
Hems port You'll have to judge it on the work environment. The safe best is to use a professional salutation and sign off. "Dear Mr. Smith" and "Sincerely" are professional. You can also just use their name and then end with "Thank you." It's up to your judgment.
thanks for replying. I think i'll stick with that formula then, Another thing is a lot of these jobs ask for you to email the resume not attach it for some strange reason. should i put the cover letter on top and the resume directly under it in that situation?
i wrote a cover letter on microsoft words and don't know how to make it a pdf file to send it in does anyone know how to do this? i downloaded adobe but it's still not giving me the pdf option only rich text format whatever that is and they company claims they can't view it this way
When you go to save the file click save as and choose the folder you want to save into. in the window that appears which asks for a name to the file it should also say the format that it will be saved as (.docx or .doc). Click this and a drop down menu should appear where you can select to save it in other formats such as PDF. Hopefully this helps

Example: "Dear Hiring Manager for Cashier Position" Again, that's not ideal, but it's more specific than "To whom it may concern" haha

Pammie Sue You can typically print to PDF using your print dialog. That's how I always do it.
