Hi, there. Glad you like this video. I just visited your channel. Very useful content on spreadsheets. I love using spreadsheets to stay organized. How long have you been posting UA-cam videos?
Thank you for mentioning the different ways a cover letter can be shared. When I've applied for jobs in the past, I've always just attached a separate resume and cover letter to an email, but I can see how it would be beneficial to put the cover letter inside the email.
Yes, I like the option of including your cover letter inside the body of an email. I also like to recommend including a shorter version with a very strong call call to action inside the body of the email and then attaching a more formal cover letter separately. Hope this helps!
This is so helpful for those on a career search.. quite a few of the coaching clients I see get stuck when it comes to writing a cover letter and sorting their CV out and so very helpful to have a channel that's offering all that guidance.. xx
Kate, thank you for sharing your thoughts! Cover letters can be challenging to write. It's one of the things I struggled with most when I was applying for a job. I'm thrilled you found these tips useful.
I had to make a cover letter not too long ago, I had someone helping me to write it and avoid mistakes and it did covered the 5 tips you are sharing. Thank you ~ Vero
MissLauraBora oh yes! Ha ha. I've been watching so many YT videos lately that I get mixed up. BTW - i loved your Halloween costume ideas video. Good stuff!
Susan, thank you for sharing. Cover letter's can be difficult. With a little bit of time and patience, you can create a well-written cover letter that gets you noticed.
Hi, Roman, most people do skip the cover letter. However, it's one of those items that becomes the most important right before a hiring manager or employer decides whom they want to interview.
Actually, yes I am ... I'm writing something like that now. So this is perfect timing... thanks... love your channel. I'm not sending out resume...just a letter .... hmmm... Once again, perfect timing! ~Elizabeth xx
Wild Woman Enchanted oh yea! I'm so glad to hear that these tips were useful to you. These tips can also be applied to a general business letter. Thanks for mentioning it.
Very, very helpful. Thank You PHA! Do you do quick reviews on CL's people create reflecting your tutorials? And BTW, I watch a lot of your videos, they're super helpful and easy to watch because you come off charismatic and have super clear communication. I think my resume and CL, soon to be, look the best they ever have.
Thank you very much for this informative video. I was wondering where would you explain employment gap in this format for cover letter? thank you again!!!
Hi there! Thanks for watching. I'm doing a live stream in just a few days all about cover letter. Set your reminder or catch the replay right here: ua-cam.com/video/WGijMy6dmWg/v-deo.html
Angie, a few things that comes to mind is to highlight only your most important accomplishments in your cover letter and include some type of email signature. Hope this helps!
Professor Heather Austin1 What do you do when you don't have enough professional summary or professional highlights to cover both in your resume or your cover letter without repeating the same info. This is one of the reason why I absolutely hate doing cover letters. your help would be greatly appreciated.
Julie! Such a great question. Cover letters are a pain in the butt. Think about your greatest accomplishments and what you do best. This video might help: ua-cam.com/video/79JL8xq0UzY/v-deo.html. Also, I have a new cover letter video coming out tomorrow. Keep your eyes out for that. ☺
Hi Heather, in the past I've tried to call companies to ask for the person doing the hiring, and a lot of times they think I'm a creeper and won't give me the name! What's your advice?
Hi Tracy! Great question. My recommendation would be to visit LinkedIn or Hunter.io to find their name. Hope this helps! Also, here's the newest video I have on writing a great cover letter: ua-cam.com/video/ycKMs2FDbs0/v-deo.html
Hi there! Yes, cover letter writing can certainly be time consuming. Have a good plan in place and clear way to structure your letter, can save oodles of time. Thanks for sharing!
Hi there Red! I'm glad you found these tips easy to follow. For most, the time it takes to create a cover is the big challenge. I recommend completing one section (or paragraph) at a time. Hope this helps!
Hi, Janelle! Great question. If you are on the hiring end, a cover letter is a great way to learn more about your candidate. A cover letter helps you narrow down those that you want to interview. Most hiring managers really appreciate them.
Tip #1 is controversial. I've heard that companies don't want hundreds of potential applicants calling them up just to ask the hiring manager's name. If 100 applicants call, and each call takes 2 minutes, that's 3 hours and 20 minutes of wasted time for the person answering the phone. And, according to hiring managers, they are fine with a cover letter addressed to "Dear Hiring Manager".
Steven, I totally agree with you that tip #1 is controversial. The good thing is, not all 100 applicants will call to find out a hiring managers name. Only a small percentage will take the initiative. If a company does not want phone calls, they will state that in the job posting. As an applicant, you can also do some digging online. Thanks Steven for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it.
The Wandering Photographer thank you for your feedback! I appreciate you taking the time to comment. The sunglasses refer to a profile pic for LinkedIn. I believe sunglasses are just fine for more informal social networks. I hope that clears up any confusion.
Courtney, hi there! I’m so glad to hear you found the resume template useful. I will be making another video about cover letters in the future and I’ll include a template with it. I do have a letter of resignation template. Have you seen that video yet?
