- When we think of the tudors. I doubt the name Margaret Douglas comes to mind. Instead we are pulled towards characters in history such as Henry viii, Elizabeth I and Bloody Mary. But in fact there is a princess who has been lost to history as she was essentially forgotten. Over shadowed by her own family, Margaret became a forgotten royal in our history. Born on the 8th of October 1515, the countess of Lennox was the daughter of Scottish Queen Dowager, Margaret Tudor, making Henry VIII her uncle.
But having a king of England as her uncle came with its dangers, for Margaret would go on to anger king Henry VIII on two separate occasions, but with each occasion being showered in scandal and an illicit affair. Margaret would find herself imprisoned in the Tower of London for a total of four years, yet she still managed to serve five out of six of the kings wives. The scheming of lady Margaret Douglas would help to bring about one of the most notorious royal marriages of the sixteenth century, yet she has now become someone that has been mostly forgotten. Maragert Douglas was a prominent and important figure and today we are here to try and tell her story.
Sometimes being a princess was nit a good thing to be. She stood her ground through all though, didn’t she? Very enjoyable, thank you 👵🇦🇺
i would love for you to do some episodes on Edward IV and his wife Elizabeth...Lady Margaret Beaufort and her husbands...
yes. Henry VIII was far more bloody, wasnt he? However, he was not called Bloody Henry
Bloody Henry!! Nah, don't sound right. How about horrendous Henry.
@@zackerylamb9511 i like it. Horrendous Henry the Horribly Hemoglobulous
Elizabeth I was pretty 'bloody' as well.
Three monarchs? Definite Survivor!
Great information as usual. I had never heard of this lady before ur wonderful video.
Rather than saying Bloody Mary wouldn’t it be fairer to just say Mary I. Mary I was her official title, and Bloody Mary is a nickname given to her decades after her death by people who never knew the Queen and merely wanted to portray her as An evil woman. Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were called their official titles, so I think Mary should as well.
A person who burns people at the stake over something as stupid as religion deserves the name.
@@jerrydempsey3490 Henry VIII and Elizabeth I executed just as many people as Mary did. In fact, Henry VIII executed more people every year of his 36 year reign than Mary did her whole reign. The person who gave her the nickname was Protestant John Knox (whom would have definitely done the same to Catholics if he was King) who did not want a woman on the throne, especially a Catholic woman. John Knox didn’t just hate Mary I, he also hated Mary’s sister Elizabeth (though eventually acknowledged her because she was a Protestant) and their cousin Mary Queen of Scots. He called Mary Bloody Mary as a way to try and stop a Catholic person and a woman from ever sitting on a throne. As well as that, if if Mary did deserve her nickname (which I don’t think she does) then it would make more sense to have her called Mary I. Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were called by their official titles, so why shouldn’t Mary. It almost suggests Mary wasn’t a Monarch.
@@muttstersmart None of them deserve respect.
Whether you burn one or 1000, she earned the nickname.
Muttster Smart: I agree
This was a very informative video. Thank you.
She was remembered as very good looking. This seemed to have been desirable in Henry’s court.
The Lady Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox was an amazing woman and a great cousin to Mary the First, Queen of England
Thank you👑👑👑
Divergent squint a family trait? Seems left eye issues noticed.
Hi was the audio song you use when you narrate can you tell me as I do constantly ask in your videos if you can just tell me the song I would be happy.
It was rather tacky of you to refer to Mary1 as "bloody Mary" when her crimes were no more that her father and half sister which were refered to by titles.
