When I swapped a 03 mustang mach1 with 5.3 twin turbo car with a 4l80e I made the all gauges work including the factory tach speedo cruise etc o ya and the AC
When you do another ls swap can you do a detailed video on using all the stock gauges in a ls swap. I've been watching your videos all morning. You covered a lot in this video.
I have some vied s connecting all the stock gauges on this swap, but it will vary greatly depening on the swap vehicle since all gauges aren't the same.
Thank you so much for this video I have a 02 Sonoma with a lq9 stock harnest do you know if they are the same color and I have heard that you don’t need to re wire anything can you confirm that thanks
Hello I just had a question. Super sketchy wire doesnt connect to the engine anywhere? Just one end on pin 50 to random boxes under dash to pin 3 on gage cluster? Thanks for documenting this info, this stuff is invaluable. I really want to keep my factory dash and fuel tank and these videos are awesome
Sketchy wire goes from Pin 50 on the LS Swap computer (red or green connector pin 50, depending on computer version) to the 3rd spot on the gauge cluster connector. I just used the stock LS wiring harness C100 connector, but the wire can be ran directly to the PCM. To make it a little easier for my troubleshooting Instead of pulling wires from under the gauge cluster, I found that the Blue w/black stripe on that "translator" box under the glove box is the speedometer output wire to the gauge. I hope that doesn't make it sound more complicated, basically the blue w/black stripe IS the 3rd pin on the gauge cluster. Pin 50 is the speedometer output wire in the stock LS trucks, the PCM converts the VSS pulses into a 4000 pulse per mile signal to run the LS truck speedometers.
@@wilsworkshop thank you for the detailed reply. Does the factory 2.2/4.3 setup work in a similar manner? Would a non ls swap, hook/wore up in a similar way to keep the factory speedometer working? Thanks
I’m doing a ls1 swap in a 89 Silverado 350 tbi, my standalone harness has a speedo wire. But I was under the impression you tie the vss from the Obs to the vss to the ls1 harness? So confused to say the least
It's different for every type of vehicle since wiring, speedometers, modules, etc are all different (although most GM electronic speedometers use the same pulse rate). That way may work fine for an 1989 Silverado. The car in the video is a 1994 Sonoma, very similar to an 89 Silverado but not exactly the same. I'm also using a 2006 Transmission which matches the engine and computer, not the original VSS.
I didn't. The gauge cluster I have doesn't have the Tach so I never connected it. It's pretty easy though since the computer has a dedicated Tach output wire. The Tach signal can also be altered in HP Tuners so the 4 cyl Tach will work even though it's an 8 cyl engine.
Ok I have a 93 …when I got my ls installed they cut allll the old harness up and just used the hots.. is the white wire on the gauge connector the tach wire ?. I think it is…
Yes but also No . If it's a 1994, like this one, then it will be the same. Somewhere around 95, 96, or 97 they changed to a different way to get information to the gauges. I'm not sure of the exact year they changed over, so the early 2nd gens will be like this (and I think late 1st gens), then the later 2nd gens will be different.
I'm not really sure, most of the GM wiring is similar colors for things like gauges. You'll need to test your wiring or find a diagram for the specific version of the truck.
Is that GPS Speed an app I can download on my phone ?? Might be a stupid question but I need to check my actual speed on my S10.. Even a tire size change affects the calibration so much
Yep, it's a free app, called Torque Lite. There's a pay version also, just look for the free one. It uses the cheap bluetooth scan tools. Also an easy GSP speed check method is just use a navagation app, google maps also shows my speed when driving.
This answered so many questions. THANK YOU!!!!!
no no no, thank YOU !
That is good to know that is an awesome video been looking for a 2002 and up Yukon or Suburban awesome videos
Both good choices, are you trying to find a 6.0L version?

Nice, best way to make a fast mustang is drop an LS in it. AC and cruise are next electrical jobs on the list.

Yep, as long as the swapped-in computer sends out a 4000 pulse per mile signal it would work exactly the same.

It should be, white's usually the tach wire color for GM vehicles.
Will the second gen s10 have the same style translator box?

So i have to connect the green wire to pin 50
