I feel like Leigh Bardugo has so much talent but had to comply with the typical YA fantasy tropes for her debut so that she could make a name for herself and actually get to write the way she wants. Because everything she's published after this trilogy is FIRE!
I really like Mal. For once in a YA novel the 17 year old kid feels like he’s actually 17. Insecure, brash but also noble and kind. Not the usual uber masculine, super confident, mature... teenager
i didnt care for mal either way, but i personally dont see him as abusive and an asshole like most people make him out to be. i felt like he was a realistic character too
i read Coping With Difficult People back in the late 80s when i was entering the work place as an adult. it has made a huge impact on how i deal with people. my senior english teacher in high school hated hearing students whine "it;s not fair". she would always respond with "if life were fair I'd be tall, skinny, rich, and beautiful."

Sea prayer sounds emotional and incredible, I think what it’s rooted out of give its depth like you said. great video Cindy!! I say this EVERY time but your humor gets me 😂😂 idk how you have all this off the cuff wit, but you are amazing
I gave Siege and Storm 3 stars but I agree with every single thing you said! I had such a strange experience with this book, at first I thought I was enjoying it more than Shadow and Bone, but then it took me MONTHS to finish! Like what?
I am very excited to hear your thoughts on The Calculating Stars. I accidentally bought it and the sequel (DAMN YOU BUY WITH ONE-CLICK ON AMAZON!) and hope to read it soon.
I'm here! Finally!! I actually enjoyed the last book. The first and second were not great but I thought that the series got better later on. I also really liked mal and nikolai! I also agree that her writing has matured SO MUCH because it's a world of difference between this trilogy versus six of crows duology. I just got my copy of king of scars yesterday and I am PSYCHED 🧡
Lol you not only had to read one nonfiction book but three to get the grisha verse out of your mind!! 😂😂 makes sense!! 💜 “hippy dippy” I’m ready for the tea of siege and storm lol that *sigh* I’m still confused Sarah J Mass has such a high rating on goodreads. (Btw way if you end up reading Mass I will love watching your pain as you read those books 💜💜 I’m saying that in the most loving way I promise!) “She ain’t even a cookie” YESSSSS all the light we cannon see is honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read!!💜💜 you know sometimes you need a sad picture book 😂 wow so many good videos coming our way!! Yayyy announcements!! *sings along to there can be miracles* wow you know you’ve made it when Leigh tweets about you!! 💜💜💜 ohhh unpopular opinions on Circe?! Color me intrigued!! Ayyyyy Six Of Crows fans yesssss!! Yes Leigh is our religious leader!! 💜💜 ALWAYS!!
I love all the light we cannot see so much! You not liking the grisha trilogy stresses me out because I have been meaning to read it for years and now I have to for the show and like so many people love it but it seems like everyone who reads it after six of crows doesn’t like it
omg is this the first time you were caught up with booktuber shoutouts!? :D that management book reminded me a lot of a coworker i had who gave me similar advice. watching her put it into practice was honestly incredible. she knew she had to sort of manage some managers while still keeping her place and she does it so well. my life goal is to pretty much be her :')
I know i am late, but i remember you saying that the last books you read sucked. I would like to recommend And Then There Were or Death on the Nile (both written by Agatha Christie). Ps: I love your channel to pieces
Seeing your thoughts on the grisha trilogy is hilarious. I love that series but I read them when I was in high school (so about 6 years ago, maybe?) and it came into my life when I needed to escape into books. THAT BEING SAID, I am terrified to reread them because I don't want to dislike them like you do but I get it D;
tbh i think if i read them in high school i wouldve enjoyed them better too! i guess i just read at a bad time when i am more critical of books now lol
I'm really looking forward to your review of All the Light We Cannot See! I just finished it last night and I was actually ugly sobbing. It felt so good to rate this book 5 stars on GoodReads.
@@withcindy Oh dear god that broke me. The worst (or best) for me was when Frederick's mom received the torn page of the bird book. Even through all that we still got a glimpse of Werner's kindess. It was just so powerful. FML I'm tearing up at work thinking about it.
when someone (i forget who) said that there was a small town that werner kept visiting and said "i think he fell in love with someone" i cried too and pretty much every scene with him and marie. i wish we had seen more scenes between them :'(
@@withcindy Yes! That sentence made me tear up again. It was Volkheimer who said it I'm pretty sure. What we had of the two of them together was too short indeed, but I think at the same time because it was so little, it was even more precious. It just makes me cling to the memory of their interactions even more. Every single page of it we got was meaningful. Ahhhh this book is just so wonderful!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hated the Grisha Trilogy! Felt like an outcast. Also, All The Light We Cannot See was such a good book! My entire family loved it!

GENYA REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE LEAD OMG. Yes, I’m yelling because she’s so underrated!
The Tailor short story was the most engaged i was compared to the rest of the series lol
If only there's a character with each half of the Darkling's charm and Nikolai's personality, they would save the series. BUT WE DON'T.
all I'm saying is they better not even try to whitewash Six of crows I'm going to riot
leigh bardugo wrote in her newsletter that they want to be mindful of diversity so if anything they might have more POC characters on screen!
I think we can trust Leigh. She is being very thoughtful about this.

Sea prayer sounds emotional and incredible, I think what it’s rooted out of give its depth like you said. great video Cindy!! I say this EVERY time but your humor gets me 😂😂 idk how you have all this off the cuff wit, but you are amazing
thanks so much courtney!!
Had a horrible day but now its perfect. Thank you🙌
i hope your weekend turns out better!!
@@withcindy thanks
Imagine being the flight attendant going though the aisle and offering snacks and then you get to Cindy.
they dont get paid enough for this
I live for the grisha roasting😂😂♥️♥️
I gave Siege and Storm 3 stars but I agree with every single thing you said! I had such a strange experience with this book, at first I thought I was enjoying it more than Shadow and Bone, but then it took me MONTHS to finish! Like what?
I am very excited to hear your thoughts on The Calculating Stars. I accidentally bought it and the sequel (DAMN YOU BUY WITH ONE-CLICK ON AMAZON!) and hope to read it soon.
i will def cover it in my january wrapup!
I'm here! Finally!! I actually enjoyed the last book. The first and second were not great but I thought that the series got better later on. I also really liked mal and nikolai! I also agree that her writing has matured SO MUCH because it's a world of difference between this trilogy versus six of crows duology. I just got my copy of king of scars yesterday and I am PSYCHED 🧡
this thumbnail is giving me classic 90's paper cup vibes and I just want you to know I am HERE for it!
haha i am experimenting a bit more with these thumbnails now, but i'll never get over how weird it is to stare at your own face on photoshop
@@withcindy they look great! the face does too :P
💜💜 ALWAYS!!
yesss im excited for the videos coming out soon! but they would never be as creative as yours queen
Honestly impressed you finished Siege & Storm because I left the scene at Shadow & Bone.
honestly ur the smarter one here
I love all the light we cannot see so much! You not liking the grisha trilogy stresses me out because I have been meaning to read it for years and now I have to for the show and like so many people love it but it seems like everyone who reads it after six of crows doesn’t like it
give the first one a try and if u aint feeling it, dont trek further lmao
omg is this the first time you were caught up with booktuber shoutouts!? :D
that management book reminded me a lot of a coworker i had who gave me similar advice. watching her put it into practice was honestly incredible. she knew she had to sort of manage some managers while still keeping her place and she does it so well. my life goal is to pretty much be her :')
thats what im still learning right now! it's hard work and requires a lot of patience tbh... it's like half the job lmao
I couldnt watch this when it was originally posted and i am devasted
u didnt miss much
@@withcindy how dare you insult cindy, it doesnt matter that you are her, i will not allow you
Would love to see your review of the book that made you cry! Yessss :] Lots of love from Brazil! ♥♡
that'll def be coming soon! i just need to edit it
I read the sample of All The Light We Cannot See and *love* the writing. I hope to read it when I'm not writing and am glad your read it :^)
it's FANTASTIC! would def recommend!! best writing i've read in 2018
I know i am late, but i remember you saying that the last books you read sucked. I would like to recommend And Then There Were or Death on the Nile (both written by Agatha Christie).
Ps: I love your channel to pieces
thank you for the recs, i will look it up :)
Seeing your thoughts on the grisha trilogy is hilarious. I love that series but I read them when I was in high school (so about 6 years ago, maybe?) and it came into my life when I needed to escape into books. THAT BEING SAID, I am terrified to reread them because I don't want to dislike them like you do but I get it D;
tbh i think if i read them in high school i wouldve enjoyed them better too! i guess i just read at a bad time when i am more critical of books now lol
just from the intro alone, i knew you were talking about siege and storm lol
WELP lol
That intro though! Yes girl, upping the editing game 👌
sometimes i try... sometimes
Great Video Cindy
I'm really looking forward to your review of All the Light We Cannot See! I just finished it last night and I was actually ugly sobbing. It felt so good to rate this book 5 stars on GoodReads.
I WAS UGLY SOBBING TOO!!! REMEMBER THAT PART WHERE THE SISTER READ THE JOURNAL THAT THE MAIN GUY KEPT WITH HIS LIST OF QUESTIONS? THAT BROKE ME
@@withcindy Oh dear god that broke me.
ATLWCS is sooo good! i usually dont read WW2 books but i really enjoyed this one
Yes! It was worth all the hype.
Now I know how to pronounce 'Circe'. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the live shows and your reading vlog! I wonder what the title would be.
I had to look up the authors interview to figure out how to pronounce it!
@@withcindy the struggle is real
Your videos are the crack to my addiction
u need rehab
@@withcindy probably
Ever since it came up I've been waiting for you to talk about the upcoming Netflix adaptation HURRAH!
