    Hi Bartonella buddies! I do not experience neuropsychiatric symptoms from bartonellosis but my Bartonella buddy, Marty Jonah, has a UA-cam channel where she talks about her experiences with PANS and Tourette's induced by Bartonella. please do a video regarding treatment. the low-histamine diet helps a little to avoid flare ups but doesn't help baseline symptoms. antivirals didn't help. H1 and H2 blockers seem to help a little but not much. have you been able to get a Rx that actually helps?

    . I haven't felt like myself since I got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever 3 years ago. I was never diagnosed with bartonella, but the doctor agreed I had a coinfection but did not want to do a brain biopsy to test for bartonella. I never had these mental health issues before and the vitamins, diet and exercise were only helping so much. This was AMAZING to see someone actually putting neuro symptoms with this disease. The mental health suggestions of clean space, routine, and health only help so much when they don't address the physical cause. I'm so tired of not feeling like me. This can't be the new norm. Now I just have to find a doctor that doesn't write me off for having my own prior knowledge of my disease.

    This video is so well done. You are incredible at synthesizing very difficult science into an understandable and entertaining format. This particular video hits very close to home. I just learned about you from a researcher a few months ago and just noticed that you have not posted for many months. I hope that you are doing as well as you can. You really have become a treasure to the science world of bacteriology, when research specialists are recommending you as a go to source to gain knowledge. I know it has been a cause of Alan Alda to have more people be able to communicate scientific ideas to the general public, you exemplify this ability like no one I’ve ever seen. Wishing you well. ❤️

    Thank you for bringing awareness to this. My son presented with sudden onset neuropsychiatric problems almost 2 years ago. Its been a long journey of psychiatric hospitalizations, different medications and while he is improving, it has always concerned me the sudden onset, presenting with skin striae and other anomolies that he could be dealing with something underlying. I was researching misdiagnosed schizophrenia ironically and came across a picture of what my primary doctor described as common stretch marks and it was an article regarding Bartonella by Ed Breitschwerdt. The skin lesions associated with Bartonella looked almost exactly like the marks on my sons back. I contacted Ed immediately and sent him pictures of my sons skin lesions explained his animal exposure and he responded within a day or two. My son is currently being tested through galaxy and while I cant confirm a link to bartellosis yet Im thankful that he is at least being tested. Much thanks for bringing light to this and sharing your incredible personality and knowledge.

    Couldn't it be the case that antibiotic use associated with increased risk of mental disorders mean that in cases of poorly characterized immune deficiency/dysregulation, there is going to be more antibiotic use? I've had PANS and neuropsych symptoms since early teens, and only in my 40s found out I had TBD. Like you, I'm certain I became so ill (both with neuropsych symptoms and, much later, debilitating physical symptoms and pain) is because of poorly understood immune deficiency/dysregulation, both innate and acquired.

    • @BartonellaBabe
      @BartonellaBabe  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Linda. I replied to your same question on my other video so I’m just going to copy and paste what I said here too: I have only been on antibiotics for very short periods of time because my MCAS is so severe. I felt improvement after 7 weeks of 150 mg of rifampin daily but had to stop due to MCAS reactions. Sometimes people don't notice they're feeling better because of MCAS reactions or “herxing” while antibiotics but once they stop they realize they feel better. However, if you stop prematurely, you can relapse. Some people don't feel markedly better until they get to the rifabutin step of treatment. I would say I am a quick responder in comparison to other bartonellosis patients. Also, some antibiotics have anti-inflammatory properties independent of killing microbes and some people feel better right away because of that

    By any chance have you come across or know if alcohol makes bartonella symptoms worse ?

    • @BartonellaBabe
      @BartonellaBabe  3 роки тому

      There is no scientific literature on that specifically but we know that alcohol is literally a carcinogen, it's inflammatory, and it is high in histamine, which can especially be a problem for MCAS. So, if you are sick with bartonellosis, you have systemic inflammation and alcohol will make this worse, even possibly at low amounts. I used to enjoy drinking so I don't judge anyone who does but it's definitely not healthy!
