Thank you Doc for all of your videos. Trying to learn and do everything that you are saying for our lawn. Definitely work in progress. The brick boarder that you are using definitely makes your yard look so much nicer. Take care!
Doc this was a great video. I looovvve your yard. I didn't know what you were talking about when it came to what you use on your lawn, but I loved listening. I will be laying edging on a small area of my front yard and you make it look so easy. Thanks for the tips. Btw..I don't know if anyone has ever told you, but you look like Pernell Roberts (Adam Cartwright from Bonanza) when he was a little older. Keep up the good work
The best Bermuda grass I have ever had was Zoysia. Everyone who stepped on it couldn't believe how thick it felt to them. It was like carpet with a thick undermat. You could not pull the blades apart and see the gound. Now I have moved and have a hybrid Bermuda. It's nice, but it's nothing like Zoysia.
I got rid of my edging last year. Got tired of the freeze/thaw cycle pushing it out of the ground. So I went with a live edge. Will see how that works out for now.
I’ll just caution that in climates like mine (zone 7) that about 3 years after installing plastic border like this, it will pop up and pull away at the junction connectors from freeze thaw cycles. I was told would happen by a pro landscaper but I thought that if I buried it well and used pins, it would keep in place. Not the case. I’ll be moving to the pliable aluminum boarder this year. I love the paver idea because it allows you to run a mower wheel along the bed over the pavers. It’s just the plastic bits I’d reconsider.
I love your house and your yard! It looks like a fun and tranquil place to hang with family! And I think that’s part of why we do all this lawn stuff 😋
Yow old man much respect for what your doing , the beard is your experience and well good looks for giving the younger generation witch is priceless Sir , thx.
The only problem I have with those blocks, is the gaps between them on the grass-side starts growing grass (or weeds), and the trimmer can't really get at it due to not having a smooth edge to cut along. Do you get in there close with some roundup to prevent that?
Thanks Doc! This is very helpful. We just moved to Texas from Washington state and have Bermuda which I'm not familiar with so your lawn guide & videos have been a blessing! Looking forward to getting our lawn some nutrients. I will try this edging technique as well :)
The Bermuda at my house would just crawl under those stones, lift them up and then crawl over the edging behind and set up house in those beautiful beds! It would take about one night! Ha ha.
I'm doing mine now and I like the Landshark edging. However, my process has to be different because I have a different situation. I've roto-tilled my garden bed but still have some hardpan soil right where the edging goes. That requires soaking that area to soften it before I can get a section of edging hammered into the ground. I marked a wooden stick with a 2" indicator so I can quickly hold it up against the edging and verify it's at the depth I need. Also my bed is lower than the grass, unlike yours, so my interlocking stones I've chosen have to be placed between the edging and the grass. This requires me to set the edging a precise distance from the grass using a several stones as a guide. Then remove the stones and hammer the edging down. After that, I permanently set the stones in place, leveling them also. It's slow work in my situation and will take about 2-1/2 days to do 84 feet. I want to thank your for the video because it's the best solution I've found while trying to solve a larger problem of raising the bed with more soil and putting weed-preventer fabric over it and then red mulch. The edging allows me to increase the soil depth and raise the level next to my concrete basement walls. This will help direct water away from the home and reduce the amount of water my sump pump has to discharge from the basement drains.
That is still a pain to mow around and roundup stops growth for a about a week, especially with the cracks between rocks. I would just pour pea gravel along border, so it can be easily sprayed with roundup extended control a couple times a year, and its easy to mow without messing it up..
The finished edging looks great. However, I gave up on the plastic crap years ago. It gets brittle and / or cracks apart. Instead, I use a hammer in metal edging (such as Coyote Landscape Products edging). I also found that the bermudagrass will grow up through / around the blocks. This complicates maintenance IMO. I just use the metal edging (without the blocks), and run the stick edger around to sever the bermudagrass stolons. The end result is basically the same.
@Duck Moore Regarding bed edging with Round-Up ... stoloniferous grasses such as Bermudagrass will translocate herbicides an unknown distance. Unless you sever the stolons prior to applying Round-Up, you may get killing in areas not wanted. I understand what Doc is doing also. The stones are look fine... it just complicates maintenance a bit.
Nothing stops my bermuda from infiltrating all my beds. Maybe if i put a barrier like 6” below the ground and some 8” railroad ties, but nothing this small.
How should we apply in order and how many times a year should we apply the off complete? And the organic one should we use off first and how long should we wait to put down the organic one or vice versa? Organic first wait one week then put down pgf?
Looks nice! However, without a barrier in between the grass in the bottom of the blocks, the Bermuda is going to come up in between them. Bermuda even comes up in through landscape fabric. Your lawn looks great for April! What type of Bermuda grass do you have?
Can i throw mulch on top of rocks there are to many rocks around my house to pick all of them up i was wondering if i can just cover them with sand then throw plastic on top and then the mulch
Beautiful property! I recently used the beige color of the stones u used for the border! Look great with triangular gaps side by side, or gaps at all 😬😬
Looks really nice and great idea. I appreciate the video!! I liked everything except the RoundUp poison, I would use something like Bonide DeadWeed Brew, or you could also use D-Limonene based products to kill vegetation too, works really well👍🏻 … thank you!
I've never seen that serrated edge plastic edging, looks like it would be easier to use than the straight edge stuff. Few things confused me, why did you spray roundup on the edging? Would think roundup would only work on actual weeds. Also, what stops the grass growing through the bricks? And lastly, I wouldn't be cutting the edging in to shorter lengths creating gaps for the grass to grow through.
Doc, so now that you’re using a reel mower, can we assume there is clearance between the mower and the bricks you laid? I would have been ideal if the brick was laid inside the garden vice outside. Ask me how know....also recommend lowering the bricks if you decide to relocate them inside the flower bed.
Doc, i've used this method and actually put mulch paper under my mulch with only the plants going through the paper. I still get some weeds do to transfer from the wind. It works well but it isn't perfect, at least not for me.
Nice work, and the lawn is looking great. Though it's so weird seeing a pool without any fencing. In Australia, it's a law requirement that every pool has to be fenced off, and requires a self-closing child-proof locking gate(s).
I seem to recall you doing a flower bed edge video with a flat brick to roll your mower wheel over... so you don’t have to weed whack the edge. Can you link me to that video?
What a wonderful video. I enjoyed watching it and just subscribed. I am going to attempt to do the side of our house with a flower bed. I am doing this from scratch and think I can complete the task as you listed everything I need to get started. By the way, you have right to brag about your grass Doc. It looks amazing! Hoping you will share some grass tricks in your upcoming videos :-)
👋 Question... For long distances, can the ground be cut with a Stick Edger instead of using the Spade Shovel, then insert the liner into the ground?🤔 Thanks for any/all feedback. 👍😎👍
Was that a red dragon japanese maple I saw in the background around the 2:15 mark? We just re-did all our front landscaping and put one of those in ourselves. I also used the same blocks for my ending, but I built it as more of a retaining wall-lite. Just a shallow trench with a couple of inches of #89 granite, tamped and stacked. I terraced it out so it's level all the way across, stepping down or up as the slope changes.
Very nice, you also gave me an idea to reshape my bed like yours on the back corner of your house. I think I’ll use these stones as well, I considered hiring someone to put down formed concrete but the cost is likely a nonstarter. Both versions of plastic edging I’ve used has been a disaster.
I would like to try this in front of my house but there is a slight slope on the one side. Should I make it all level or can I just follow the slope with a single layer of rock?
I FINALLY found a video where someone alternates the bricks to avoid those triangular gaps!! It's common sense to me, glad I'm not the only one.
that looks nice and is such a logical approach. i find I can kill weeds with boiling water so I can avoid using herbicides
Mighty fine lawn you got there!!! I like how its not cluttered with plants in your beds, great job!!
This is my first time really attempting landscaping and you’ve helped me so much! You got straight to the point and made it simple
Wow!
You've done a great job on this house Doc!
I’m intrigued by your method of edging! Looks awesome!
This was just what I have been looking for. Thanks. Lovely garden and I love the bird song.
Thank you Doc for all of your videos. Trying to learn and do everything that you are saying for our lawn. Definitely work in progress. The brick boarder that you are using definitely makes your yard look so much nicer. Take care!
I like the solar lights. How about a link or a few minutes on those. Thanks, nice video Doc
The reading on my phone said "human char". Guess we've come a long way since animal fertilizer.
Magnificent lawn. So jealous!

Thank you. Very helpful and your video is not boring at all.
I love the scale of those stones. Really nice
You mentioned that you used the small stone for a $1.38, but you linked to the larger one that sells for $2.00. Which one did you use?
I like your method, others are using concrete to set their stones, I prefer the simplicity of yours.
I am jealous 😩such a lovely lawn.
I got rid of my edging last year. Got tired of the freeze/thaw cycle pushing it out of the ground. So I went with a live edge. Will see how that works out for now.
That looks beautiful with the stones!
I’ll just caution that in climates like mine (zone 7) that about 3 years after installing plastic border like this, it will pop up and pull away at the junction connectors from freeze thaw cycles. You have a very nice yard and I love your back yard
Thanks for sharing, handsome! Looking good.
I’m envious of your lawn. I have awful St. Augustine grass.
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Just made me make the decision to go ahead and add stone to my own flower bed.
I love your house and your yard! It looks like a fun and tranquil place to hang with family! And I think that’s part of why we do all this lawn stuff 😋
Yow old man much respect for what your doing , the beard is your experience and well good looks for giving the younger generation witch is priceless Sir , thx.
Brilliant video. Your lawn is quality. Love the pool too! We don't get the weather here in Ireland I'm afraid!☹
Edging looks good. Like to see a video on your outdoor lighting you have.
PgF Complete really good stuff! Doc is the man!
Just subscribed. You have everything that I’m looking for to complete my many projects. Thank you, your work speaks volume.
you are in the face straight up!! you love your work and you deserve it......and yes subscribed
The only problem I have with those blocks, is the gaps between them on the grass-side starts growing grass (or weeds), and the trimmer can't really get at it due to not having a smooth edge to cut along. Do you get in there close with some roundup to prevent that?
The edging looks great! Could I do this without Roundup? I don't want that stuff on my property...
I love how you admire your lawn LOL if you don’t love it, you won’t treat it with love
Nice and clean edged!! Thanks Doc!!
Looks clean and professional bud. Great work!
Your yard is beautiful ✨✨✨
Thanks Doc! This is very helpful. We just moved to Texas from Washington state and have Bermuda which I'm not familiar with so your lawn guide & videos have been a blessing! Looking forward to getting our lawn some nutrients. I will try this edging technique as well :)
Great garden, really nice pool. Shame England doesn't have the weather!
It came out real subtle and nice! What a beautiful home!
The Bermuda at my house would just crawl under those stones, lift them up and then crawl over the edging behind and set up house in those beautiful beds! It would take about one night! Ha ha.
Excellent Video, Doc, you should do those more often
Your place looks beautiful.
Your yard looks so nice, good job. Lots of work, but it pays!

Looking awesome! The border and the lawn. Nice work and video. Thanks!
Don't we need base rock beneath to keep the paver leveled overtime?
You better put some landscape fabric under the blocks or in short time the grass and the weeds start to grow in between them.
That is still a pain to mow around and roundup stops growth for a about a week, especially with the cracks between rocks. I would just pour pea gravel along border, so it can be easily sprayed with roundup extended control a couple times a year, and its easy to mow without messing it up..
When is it ok to use the landscape bricks without the hammer down plastic edge
The finished edging looks great. However, I gave up on the plastic crap years ago. It gets brittle and / or cracks apart. Thanks Doc for taking the time to give us great advice, take care 👍🏼
My dandelions are doing great this year!
Haha! I was eating lasagna while watching the videos 😆😆😆.You always give us great tips. Thank you DOC 😊
do you happen to know what that stone is called exactly? i can't seem to find them
This is what I need to do, thanks Doc!
Thank you for this video. I'm going to do it the same way. You made it so easy to follow and do. Appreciate it
Doc your are the best , thank you so much for simplifying.
How should we apply in order and how many times a year should we apply the off complete? And the organic one should we use off first and how long should we wait to put down the organic one or vice versa? Organic first wait one week then put down pgf?
Your grass is amazing
Beautiful lawn Doc👍🏼
Hello from The Bahamas!! I LOVE your yard!!!
Looks nice! However, without a barrier in between the grass in the bottom of the blocks, the Bermuda is going to come up in between them. Bermuda even comes up in through landscape fabric.
Your lawn looks great for April! What type of Bermuda grass do you have?
Can i throw mulch on top of rocks
there are to many rocks around my house to pick all of them up
i was wondering if i can just cover them with sand then throw plastic on top and then the mulch
Love your garden!
Thanks Doc! Great tutorial, I just finished all of my beds.
May 2022, these edging blocks are now $2.48 each. 😩
Beautiful property! I recently used the beige color of the stones u used for the border! Look great with triangular gaps side by side, or gaps at all 😬😬
The yard looks great!! And nothin like lasagna for a lunch break!
You could also use Ironite. That makes it super green
Looks really nice and great idea. I appreciate the video!! I liked everything except the RoundUp poison, I would use something like Bonide DeadWeed Brew, or you could also use D-Limonene based products to kill vegetation too, works really well👍🏻 … thank you!
I usually prefer natural edges but this looks good and simple
Is there a reason you place the stones on the outside of the edging versus on the inside touching the mulch? Thanks!!
Because it would look kind of ugly.
Looks really nice. Thanks for sharing.
I've never seen that serrated edge plastic edging, looks like it would be easier to use than the straight edge stuff. Few things confused me, why did you spray roundup on the edging? Would think roundup would only work on actual weeds. Also, what stops the grass growing through the bricks? round up kills the grass quickly wherever it is sprayed so it will inhibit growth as well.
What product do you recommend to kill grass and weeds in flowerbeds??
I am new to this but this looks so easy to do, thanks for sharing

Can you please link those particular paverstones? I can't find them anywhere...
Nice tidy and easy. Thnx. Just what I was looking for
Nice work, and the lawn is looking great. Though it's so weird seeing a pool without any fencing. In Australia, it's a law requirement that every pool has to be fenced off, and requires a self-closing child-proof locking gate(s).
With the PE & PGF complete product work with St. Augustine grass Mr. Doc?
You can put the block right on the grass? Don't have to dig it out or out leaving sand? Thanks.
What do you lay under the stone
Thank you for sharing…. Beautiful home 🏡
I seem to recall you doing a flower bed edge video with a flat brick to roll your mower wheel over... so you don’t have to weed whack the edge. Can you link me to that video?
This was a big help! Thank you!

What is the brand of sunglasses you have? I would look good in them.
👋 Question... For long distances, can the ground be cut with a Stick Edger instead of using the Spade Shovel, then insert the liner into the ground?🤔
Thanks for any/all feedback. 👍😎👍
Won’t the stones get uneven over time if you don’t prep underneath them?
Is there a way to do this so you don't have to edge what the mower can't cut?
Was that a red dragon japanese maple I saw in the background around the 2:15 mark? We just re-did all our front landscaping and put one of those in ourselves. Thanks for specifically addressing fescue! Most of your info applies across the board but just the same thanks.
Very nice, you also gave me an idea to reshape my bed like yours on the back corner of your house. I think I’ll use these stones as well, I considered hiring someone to put down formed concrete but the cost is likely a nonstarter. Both versions of plastic edging I’ve used has been a disaster.

So much easier than using concrete like other videos!
Hi Doc,
I’m in Boston and haven’t put anything down yet. Too late for pre emergent so what should I put down too start??
Thanks
