What cool stuff are you doing with your Echo Speaks Smart App?
Do you have a similar tutorial on Google speakers for those of us who are using those? Thanks
Can't see your link here but thank you so much. Your tutorials have been awesome for a newbie like me. Take care and again much appreciated
Glad I could help!
Cool Installer video. Been using echo speaks in my webcore pistons for a while now. Tell's me when my washer/dryer is done, tells me when my nest and wyze cameras see's a person, ect.. With echo speaks there is so much you can do with it. Again great how to video.
I have tried numerous times to install Echo Speaks, thanks to this video it is now installed successfully! Thank you
Hey Justin, you mentioned at the end of the video that the next video will show us how to use Echo Speaks. What is the link to that video? Thanks
Awesome glad you got it working finally!
So basically Echo Speaks gets your echo devices in your SmartThings so you can use them to talk based on anything else happening in your SmartThings. So I would recommend 2 additions to compliment Echo Speaks.
The first is the smart app BigTalker2
ua-cam.com/video/pcesQqgxgMo/v-deo.html
The second is SharpTools
ua-cam.com/video/ggXAj9CrgCQ/v-deo.html
Both are free and will get your smart home talking effortlessly. Have fun!
What a Integration..!!!!! , Amazon should have done this in the first place. Just set this up and took literally five minutes, yes simply Smart , jumping to webcore integration to explore all the possibilities. Overall Fantastic work.
It’s pretty much the best! Glad you got it setup in a snap!
I followed all the tutorials and everything is working. Can't wait for the next video! I assume any changes I make in the Alexa app carry over to the echo speaks?
Depending on the setting but now you have the power to control all echo setting using Smartthings!
SharpTools opens up over 75 actions per echo device!
Thanks for these videos! All of this seems complicated, but it’s easy following your videos. Subscribed. I’m trying to get my Echos to say a custom message if a specific motion sensor detects movement. Got the echo speaks installed and I can see all devices. What do I have to do next? I’m new to ST, but slowly getting there. Thanks!
Just check out this to get you home talking fast!

Hi Justin, great walkthrough in getting echo speaks set up & running! SmartThings is trying to get me to migrate from classic app. I’m noticing that when I go under my echo devices on the new app, none of the icons to say Good Night, etc. are available. Do you think they will become available & when Samsung moves off the classic, will echo speaks still work?
So the devices will show differently in the new and classic apps but if you are using SharpTools for your Rules Engine you will still have all of the options regardless of how they look in the app.
First of all thank you for all of the amazing videos, I have learned more in the past 2 weeks that I've found your channel then the past 2 years I have been dabbling. I have followed all of the steps but but my amazon alexa does not show up in my list of Things. What am I missing? I'm sure it is an oversight on my part so any guidance would be most appreciated.
Glad I could help! So you have Echo Speaks installed and you can see your Echo devices in the smart app?
@@SimplySmart123 Yes I have installed Echo Speaks and it's showing in the Smart App.
That’s strange. Did you choose the echo devices you want to use? Also are you using the new app or the classic app?
@@SimplySmart123 I'm using the Classic app... I've followed all the steps. I'm about to give up.
@@SimplySmart123 I started over again and it worked.. not sure what I did different but I won't question it. Thanks for your help and quick response!
I've got Echo Speaks tested and working, however, I'm not able to get it to make correct announcements from Smartthings automations. For example, I want it to announce "Front door has been opened" when the front door is opened but when I open the front door, Echo starts speaking a bunch of random stuff. I have this working on my Google Home speakers correctly using cast-web-api. Whatever I choose to type in the automation is what the Google speakers put out. Not sure what the issue is with Alexa. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? I'm using the new ST app, if that makes a difference.
I have actually had that happen 2 times before and then it fixed its self a few hours later. I would restart your echo devices by just unplugging them from the back. It that doesn’t help see if it works tomorrow.
Do you still use the classic app? I'm new and haven't tried it but I'm seeing many still use it over the new app. Is it better?
Most people that started with the classic app are still on the classic app. It doesn’t look as good but you can do things that you can in the new app. The new app is basically still in development and still going through major changes. You can have both installed but turn off notifications from your non main app. Many of the things I do on this channel you will need the classic app because they will not work in the new app.
Awesome video. Does this work with the new SmartThings app?
Yes. You can also do this in the New App. The process varies slightly and it will not look in the same in the new app but the core functionality is still there.
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks!
Before considering following the steps in your videos to integrate Echo and SmartThings, I have an important question. Suppose I follow all these steps but thereafter decide I no longer want SmartThings to be part of my home setup. How many steps and how much work would be involved in undoing all this integration should I choose to go back to just using Echo/Alexa or should I choose to integrate Echo with a different hub system that might come out? Would it be a one-step process to un-integrate, or would I have to undo many, many steps? Or would I just unplug the SmartThings Hub, pitch. it into a drawer and go back to Echo/Alexa as if nothing had ever been changed? I think this is a really important question.
So to break the echo speaks integration is very easy. All you do is delete your Heroku connection. But I would highly recommend using SmartThings and SharpTools with your Echo devices as accessories. You will soon out grow Alexa as she’s not a full hub and complex automation is really not possible.
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks very much for your quick reply and explanation. That's very reassuring. I get your point.
Good luck 🍀 let me know if you have any other questions!
Can I get this to work with a Sonos speaker with built-in Alexa?
Check out this video:
ua-cam.com/video/ZQpAWdqbtrQ/v-deo.html
Is there any settings on Amazon/Alexa account that won’t allow you to sign in to the echo speaks app after the config? It just keeps saying I’m no longer logged in. Tried numerous times following your videos and guides on the echo speaks web pag.
When you login to your amazon account do you need to enter anything other than your username or password?
Simply Smart 123 Not normally but when I’m trying this it asks for a code to proof I’m not a robot and sometimes a One Time Code
Has anyone tried setting up the deployment in Heroku of late? When I run through this exercise, Heroku's setup is more involved than what is illustrated in this video (GitHub deployment? need to install more stuff to install? etc.) Plus it appears that the config vars are not created and auto-populated. Am I doing something wrong?
You might check out this video. It’s good to do anyway and it seems like this is similar to what you are seeing. ua-cam.com/video/pPHWf1ViBBI/v-deo.html
Hey Justin....do I need WebCore in order to use Echo speaks? Also, does the Alexa app discover the HD 10 tablet. It won’t show in my device list. Thanks
The easier way to use it is through BigTalker2 smart app. You can also use SharpTools.io. Both free and easy to use
Your tablet should show. May be under other devices.
i paired alexa and smarthing succesfully , and i am able to control smarthing devices with my voice, but i am unable to see any amazon alexa in my thing section,( as yours seen in video timestamp 3:12)
i am only see my alexa as a smartapp in smartapp section, i also allow authorisation, but when i try to configure bigtalker2 app, then no any amazon alexa default to select.(not showing any text to speech device)
I am having the same problem. NO Echo device appears in in my Smarthings device list.
This is no longer working with SmartThings.
Hi, good video. Is there any chance to do the same thing with Google Home products? How?
This is possible using cast-web-api. I plan to make a video on this. Here is the link: vervallsweg.github.io/cast-web/installation/
@@SimplySmart123 Hi, thanks a lot. I followed the instructions step by step without success. I will wait for your video :)
Are people still able to install this? I am getting a "Something went wrong. Please try to install the SmartApp again." error message when trying to enable the Echo Speaks Smart App.
Unfortunately not. Smart things killed the smart app because it was using too much resources and costing them a lot of money apparently. I was hoping they would have a light version or at least another option similar but I have not been able to find anything quite yet. I plan on updating the video description of this video and all the other videos that I have on the subject with the latest video to the new video once there is one!
Hmmm I'm getting a 500 error on the SmartThings website and the "Something's wrong" on my classic app.
Unfortunately echo speaks is temporary terminated by SmartThings but a new version is coming so hold tight!
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks for the update. I saw another of your videos saying the same thing. Looking forward to the new Echo Speaks! At first I thought I had a setup problem but having the app be offline makes a bit more sense. Do we have a short-term replacement available?
There is one I am looking into but not as good and might not be worth the work.
thanks for the video, I followed to a tee, but when I click on a Echo device, the options are all gray and they are very different options than yours...any idea what's happening?
Where exactly are they gray?
@@SimplySmart123 when I go to the Echo Device all the options under blue screen at topo (i.e. Album, Station, Device Style, etc) are gray. I also tried test broadcast in the Echo Speaks SmartApp, everything looks good there, but nothing happens...
That is normal. Those areas are just for read only information. At the top do you have Red buttons that you can tap and your echo device execute the command? Like weather, joke, fun fact, etc?
Cannot get my Echo devices to appear in my Smart
Things app, even though they all are working well. I have followed your excellent videos but missed the one where it tells me how to add my Echo speakers. How do I add them? Please help.
UPDATE: I found the answer in thread below. Echo Speaks must be added before the devices show up.
Great! Glad you figured it out!
I managed to screw up the heroku deployment. I didnt see the deploy button and hit the create app instead.. Now it seems like the app is created(?) but not deployed. It tells me the name is not available (already did the space hack at the end of the name). If I go back to smartthings, it always creates the same name, so I am stuck with a name in use error that I cant bypass. ***** Update **** I figured out how to delete app and then could create it new. Mission completed. Now looking for the video with real life usage examples/code. Thx much for the effort that went into creating this video.
Glad you figured it out. These things can be tricky. Check out this video for some examples! ua-cam.com/video/u1RrOXMVh_8/v-deo.html
I'm able to perform the speech and announcement tests successfully, however, none of my previously working actions are currently working with speech or announcement action types. I'm new to echo speaks so not sure how to go about troubleshooting. For example, my action to announce when a door is open doesn't trigger, even though ST detects it. Furthermore, testing the action doesn't do anything either. Any ideas?
How are you creating your automations?
@@SimplySmart123 I'm creating them in the native Echo Speaks engine. For example, I created an action to announce when a door is open. This was working well but stopped working a couple days ago. When I go to the "device testing" section in ES, "speech test" and "announcement test" are successful. When I go to my action, and try "test this action", nothing happens.
Never tried it in the Smart App. I would just use SharpTools. It’s free and easy to use!
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks, haven't ventured into SharpTools yet but I'll give it a try. Checking our your SharpTools playlist and for starters, I did not realize it was free! Thanks for these videos, they are very informative.
Hi thanks for the video. I followed your tutorial. I am having an issue with cookie finally got through it but now when I come.back to the app it doesn't up and still says invalid login and I need to religion and when I click the link again I get the login verification. I am stuck in some weird loop 😫
I think there is any issue with this now. I know they are working on a solution but you might not be able to complete the setup until this issue is resolved. You might also try to start over from the beginning.
I'm having the same issue, did u have any good?
for some reason whenever i click on echo speaks nothing happens and it takes me to te top of the page 6:22
Are you saying that happens in the community installer?
I had the same issue. Something must have been down because when I then tried to install Echo Speaks manually, I was getting "internal server 500". I tried again an hour later and everything was back and working.
is the new one you talked about in the comments out yet?
Not yet!
Hi, great video, is this working on the new app as well ?
Unfortunately, it's not working any longer because SmartThings killed the SmartApp 😭
@@SimplySmart123 they killed the st community app?
Because after I installed the st community I can see the Echo speaks app
Yes. It was taking to much resources
It will show but it won't function.
Don't work in Europe? :( I try to open the app and I got no connection
Unfortunately SmartThings killed Echo Speaks when they moved to the new app. The developer is working on a solution but nothing yet!
Everything goes ok until after the succesfuil login in Amazon. Returning to the Echo Speaks App shows "You are no longer logged in to Amazon. Please complete the Authentication on the Server Login Page!" Every time I do so I get this message again. Any clue what is going wrong ? Thank You !
Let me look into that error and see if I can find a solution.
Simply Smart 123 super ! Looking forward to it !!
When choosing your amazon settings you are choosing the correct locations right?
@@SimplySmart123 I am not sure about this. I checked my profile in alexa.amazon.com but do not see any region defined there. Language is set to English-US. Timezone is set to Europe CET. Any idea where I can check this ? In the Echo Speaks App set up Domain = amazon.co.uk, Amazon Locale setting is en-GB . Heroku region is set to US. I adapted and set everything to the same region and now the Amazon login seems to be accepted. Thank you for your help !!!!
@Simply Smart 123 - I live in Canada and my Amazon account is set to Canada. I tried to change it to US, but was not successful. When i install the app, it automatically sets the location to Canada as well. While setting up Echo Speaks, I'm experiencing login issue after Heroku is deployed, login to Amazon is successful and i return back to Echo Speaks. It shows me "You are no longer logged in to Amazon. Please complete the Authentication Process on the Server Login Page!". Please help. TIA.
Great video, but I’m having an issue obtaining my Amazon cookie. When I sign into my Amazon account it asks to re-enter my password, and then after entering the challenge phrase, it redirects me to a non-functioning page and offers to go to the Amazon home page. I’m sure I made a mistake somewhere, but can I do a manual cookie entry or something to that effect? Thanks for any help.
Steve Watson it might be a security setting on your Amazon account. When you login to your amazon account do you need to do anything special?
No, sir. I’ve not had any issues or extra steps in the Amazon login procedure, and it’s always easy and straightforward. I’ve tried it again, And this time they offered to text me a one time password to verify my identity. Even that took me to the nonexistent redirect to Amazon’s homepage. I will contact Amazon to see what’s preventing me from logging on.
You have awesome information and a fantastic series, and I very much appreciate your quick reply. Keep it up with the videos!
Good luck Steve. Let me know what you find out!
Jason, I added two-factor authorization to Amazon, and finally got a chance to try to obtain the Amazon cookie, and now I’m at a blank page with “unknown operation exception”. Any ideas on how I should go about contacting Amazon to work through this? In other words, where or with whom do I start? I really appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks again for everything you do for our community!
SimplySmart123 ✅ Nailed it! Gave it a last try this morning, and it works! Appreciate the help very much.
Can connect to google home speaker?
This is specifically for Echo devices but there is another integration for Google Home that I plan on making a video on soon.
i tried bigtalker2 and also try echo speaks but i am unsuccesfull , beacuse i am not able to add my amazon echo device in smarthing apps thing section.
i already pair my amazon alexa and smartthing hub, my alexa device can control all smarthing devices. but,
in your things section (your video time 3:12) echo devices are clearly seen and you can add to configure in bigtalker app, but no any amazon alexa speaker shown in my case.
how you add alexa device in thing section?
Echo Speaks is what adds your Echo devices to your SmartThings. There is no other way to accomplish this. Follow the Echo Speaks video again. One you can see your echo devices you can try BigTalker2.

How to do this with the new ST app?
You can’t. But you can install the classic app run through the setup and use the devices after you are complete. The new app is not complete and doesn’t have any advanced functions currently. Anyone using the Classic app was instructed not to switch until everything is working.
Thanks. So I can add the devices in the classic app and see/operate them in the new app?
Correct. But you will only get basic features in the new app. You can use SharpTools to create advanced automations regardless of which app you are using once the devices are installed.
