Well, I guess the grass is not always greener. Spent the day re-setting up my smart home after buying a nest hub. Super fast, yes but I can appreciate how much more consumer friendly the shows are to set up, use, and integrate into your ecosystem.
ahhhh, turn off screen rotation and photo display! I think not, this is half the reason I have echo show's, to show my photos! I love this feature, I also love the news, tips, weather etc. I would not be without this. Oh and great video Brain, thanks for all the advice.
IF YOU'RE IN THE EU/AU - There seems to be some issues now when switching the account over from one country to the USA. Yes, this will still give you the new features, but it may cause you the loss of your routines. In some cases, users have lost their devices connected to the Amazon account they're on too. That sounds terrible, but if you just revert your account to your original country it'll all come back. So the question becomes, do you want the features and to have to redo some things, or do you want to stick with what you have and wait? You'll have to make this decision for yourself, but you have both opportunities now!
It doesn't just lose routines. It doesn't load anything onto your devices at all, then it disconnects every Echo device on your network and finally totally resets your Alexa app so that the homescreen is back to default empty. And then you have to spend ages to trying to reload every device back on there to get back to where you started and half of the devices that were fine, now won't pair.
I appreciate how you put up Alexa commands as text on the screen instead of setting off my Echo. Only suggestion would be to place the text where captions won't cover them up.
Very helpful video. Can you do a video specifically on setting up an Echo Show 8 for a senior and teaching them basic navigation for communication, internet, email, etc.? Not smart home.

Thanks Brian I have an Alexa echo show 10 . I usually stream a radio station and at one time my Alexa would display the artist and song titles . It stopped doing that on its own and I don’t know how to get it back. Do you know how to do that ?
That's going to come from the service itself, so...that's who to talk to. The radio station may no longer be putting that out, or what Amazon's using to stream that. Could be a few services.

When I am watching Netflix on my Echo Show 10 and I ask Alexa to turn off the lights, I don't want the screen to display this notification as it disrupts my viewing. Is there a way to turn this off?
Thanks for the video! You mentioned how to get from song lyrics back to the home screen, but mine does that automatically after a brief part of the song. I have been trying to find out how to KEEP lyrics on my screen as a default (Echo Show 8, 2nd gen), whenever I am playing music. I have Amazon Music, so I don't know if that helps or if a setting change would be done through the Alexa app or Echo show itself. Please help!! I have spent so much time trying to figure this out, thank you!!
I thought that it was just on the display. Maybe it does shut off after a bit when you walk away? I'd try to keep the camera open and see if as long as you're around the device if they stay on screen. I'm betting it's an occupancy thing. What I mean by that is the Echo Show 8, 2nd gen can sense if you're around by using the camera and its mic. If you turn either of those off, it won't be able to do that.
New to this type of smaller smart devices. and basically I was looking for an alarm clock but got to thinking "smart clock radio" but I saw the Echo Show in the store. I am wondering if I have a 4k Samsung smart tv in my bedroom is the functionality of the Amazon show something I can still use and find useful over say the Lenovo smart clock? Can a smart tv be considered a giant smart display as in, can do a lot of functions a smart display can do? If so I think I need to research what else my smart tv can do and if I am under utilizing it. I have the Samsung tu8000 if that helps
Smart TVs aren't reaaaaaaaaalllyy this kind of device. The Smart Clocks and Smart Displays are their own kinda thing. The Lenovo Smart Clock is really heavily focused on being an alarm clock, but I think the Echo Shows and Google Nest Hubs are just as good as an alarm clock and do more otherwise. Get the Echo Show 5 or the Nest Hub 2nd Gen in my opinion.
I have a question! I have the current echo show 5 and I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to the new 2nd gen version for right now in Canada that device is on sale?
I don't think there's a big reason there. 2 MP camera and the detection feature. Otherwise, slight upgrades on internal hardware and the same speaker. There's not much there for the 5.
I would like to know if there is a way to disable or suspend all or a selection of "alert" routines for a specified time frame using just one command or routine. For example I have several motion sensors and motion light sensors at the moment telling me someone is in the driveway and side of the house. It is the neighbour cutting the lawn and it would be nice if there was a way to suspend several Alexa routines for say one hour. Same thing if it is myself doing yard work and Alexa keeps notifying everyone in the house there is activity at the front and then back yard and then in the garage etc. Thank you.
You can Enable and Disable Routines through other routines, but it's basically a 1 routine to enable/disable another. So it's not going to be a whole section of them.
If you have their number in your phone, it'll tell you if they've registered that with a blue checkmark next to their name in the Alexa app. You have to grant Alexa access to your contacts to do so, but that tells you if they have an echo. Otherwise, no. I'm going to make a joke now... They call that stalking! 🤣🤣
Blink has a timeout, so no. They'll make the feed turn off after a set time. As far as I can tell, that set time is tied to your subscription status too.

Tap to Alexa should bring up a little arrow type icon on to the screen if it's enabled. As for right swipe, I don't remember what that's referring to here so you'll have to refresh me.
I have a question, my s/o brought me a set of lights that are compatible with my echo and my voice command Alexa. He connected to the lights before he brought them over he was able to command it here through his phone. If I connect it to my device does he have access to my Alexa and echo???
Not enough info to tell you for sure here. Depends on the lights and how he was controlling them. Either way, as long as your account and password weren't given to him for Alexa/Amazon, you should be good. The lights however, sounds like he'll have full control.

You can't actually turn it off. Turning off the screen should just be woken up using a tap or voice with "Alexa". If it's off after that, reboot by unplugging
FOUR things I need before I get one... Change the wake up word to one of MY choosing, NOT the 5 lane names that they offer. That's odd. It might be detecting you around the screen. Do a test by closing the camera for a bit to see. That's a feature of the product to detect when you're around.
@@AutomateYourLife unfortunately the camera has been closed but it still don't work :(
Please talk about and demo the 4th Gen ultrasound motion detection
👍👍👍👌👌
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks. I got it to work one single time and never again. Also, having a Occupancy skill turned on(which uses the ultra sound) causes my 4th gen Echo to become unresponsive after a few minutes and after a while it just restarts itself so I had to disable that particular routine.
What is a difference between echo 8 1st generation and the 2nd generation ???
The camera's the biggest difference. Otherwise, they're pretty similar!
Great video as always Brian but you should have titled this video Alexa tips and tricks for US customers. It's so frustrating watching when you are out side of the US and get hardly anyone of the features
Did you miss the whole fix for that??
@@AutomateYourLife I seen that in the video but still ppl should not have to change there location just to get the same benefits as the US which I know your in same boat as most of us with you living in Canada. Even just the remember feature been out for years still not come to the uk I understand some features take slot longer for testing and stuff like regulations but to ask her to remember something , like come on seriously why so long
I followed this tip and lost 50+ routines and all of my setup here in Australia.
Managed to switch it back to Australia and the information came back. Not worth getting those extra features (at the moment) if I need to recreate my whole setup
I don't think you do Jason. It could be something specific to AU -> US but this is not typical.
I'm in the UK why hasn't my ALEXA got most of these options / features in the ALEXA APP i.e HUNCHIES etc? I own ECHO 4th Gen an ECHO SHOW 10 3rd Gen by the way.
Have a look here Dale - 8:17 - How to Get All Alexa Features Outside the USA
@@AutomateYourLife done that and its deleted all my routines?
Well this is concerning. It looks like something has changed. Just switch back your account
@@AutomateYourLife ok did that, everything is back to normal, it took i while for things to show back up i.e my routines, could it be i did not wait long enough in USA mode for my things to show or not?
@@dalemckeown6433 the routines are associated with the region where your account is. Any routines created in your UK account will not be available if you switch to a US account and vice versa.
how can I get it to turn back on from a routine I tried everything its impossible
You can't actually turn it off. Turning off the screen should just be woken up using a tap or voice with "Alexa". If it's off after that, reboot by unplugging
Does Alexa work on the cellphone, like some one open the storage, will they be able to call me????.
If you have the Alexa app on your phone, they can call you :)
FOUR things I need before I get one...
Change the wake up word to one of MY choosing, NOT the 5 lane names that they offer.
Ability to easily access my own music, photos AND vieos from a remote media server.
USB plug to expand storage or attatch an external HDD
Ability to control the device with an air mouse.
Those might take a while!
I love how "the spouse" is the common example for someone who doesn't interact well with technology. P.S. Not saying it's not true.
Ahahahhaaha yeah...that's cause most folks here are the tech half of their relationship!😂
Can you please help me with my echo show 5 2nd generation it's not showing me my wyze cam v3
What's it saying when you try? And does it ever work or 0 times?
Wish my echo show would just show in like a corner the light buttons of specific rooms... That way i can just use it right away by pressing it instead of having to say it...
You might want to look at the Echo Show 15 then 😃
@@AutomateYourLife oh hell naw, i already have 2 small echo shows and the big one that turns and follows you. Not gonna give the baldy fucker any more money. goddamn...
After seeing your device list includes a twerking bear, any video😂😂
You mean...THIS bear? ua-cam.com/video/2X5S9xOMrZE/v-deo.html🤣🤣🤣
You know that you can interrupt Alexa while she’s going on and on about something. Just say “Alexa stop”.
Automate WHY Would you benefit Activating Bluetooth Without & or instead of having The Internet as You Said?
and Wont Amazon charge you more on a Plan Now Seeing Your Phone as another added Active Multi Device ?
Example In My CASE.. I'm Typically Running Just 2 5th Gen ECHO Dots..as a Simple Left & Right Channel Stereo SET
But if i Activate Bluetooth Adding My Phone into The Mix As a 3RD Device =Puts Me into Amazons Multi Device Subscription Now Putting ME into The Multi System Monthly Which is $14.99 Family Plan =Which Now Takes Me Off The Monthly $9.95 Plan 😕
Using Bluetooth means you can play from your preferred service right? 😃
So use YT Music, or Apple Music. Whatever fits.
this can only be accessed through the app now, not the device. You really need to say this so people don't waste time searching for options that no longer exist
It's a bit of an old video, but I don't know what you're referring to specifically
i could have been clearer - and tbh i think it's android 10 (i need to activate my android 12 phone). It's brief mode - took me 2 seconds to find on the app but the device simply didn't have it (I've 2x echo 5s and an echo 8). Hunches doesn't even exist on my app but that must be a function of the version. I wish amazon didn't change the set-up of this app so regularly. It's honestly annoying
Another get video. Didn't Know I could use Google as my search engine, always assumed they wouldn't use it.
They will use it in the browser! Not for everything else!
That thing would sell like mad if they allowed google play store.
They're even removing android soon, so that's getting further away :(
can I just say alexa turn on adaptive listening?
You can say whatever you want, but it's not gonna help ;)
I almost never touch my show devices.
Can I say that's what she said? Is that allowed?
whos the blonde on the skateboard....🥰
Your next girlfriend!
