Best Free SmartThings Mobile Presence Sensor? | Life360 App
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 жов 2024
- In this video, we will be showing you how to link your Life360 account to SmartThings App which will allow you to create mobile Presence Sensors in SmartThings for friends and family.
This is a critical step in your smart home set-up that will allow your smart home to know if any individual is away or home which can trigger certain automation or could stop other things from happening using your SmartThings modes as an extra layer of security.
You can also use this in conjunction with other presence sensors to create multiple geofence zones and as a back-up system. Like with all smart home technology the possibilities are infinite!

Share with the Community: What are your favorite automations that you have created using your mobile presence sensors?
I'd love to see a future video or blog where you walk us through a few sample automations. Thank you for the vid!
Great Suggestion! I have it on my list for sure. Everyone’s hardware and situations are different but I am sure at least one automation will spark ideas for others.
Great Explanation. Been using this for a while for typical arming and shutting down items and announcements with the echos. Also Life360 has the ability through iftt to send an away mode to the Ecobee when the last person leaves. Enjoying the videos. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing some additional tips!
Very helpful video....
Thanks for uploading....
So this is the video that started me down the rabbit hole of your awesome videos. Question... my daughter went 'missing' about an hour and a half ago. I have no idea what triggered it. She finally came back present after I messed in her Life360 app and mine as well. There was nothing obvious (her location was on and she was sharing her location information). She did say she turned off wifi calling because it was causing issues possibly around that time. Have you experienced issues? THANKS a ton for being available to answer these questions.
This can happen. My wife was missing for a few days and I had her force close the app and reopen it. It seemed to fix the issue. A restart of the phone 📱 may also help.
@@SimplySmart123 looks like it may just not be a very reliable option for me. Unfortunately it said my husband left while he was literally laying here last night. He's going to have to force stop it as well. 😭 I've been dying for a reliable presence sensor.
Hummmm that’s strange. It’s been working really well for us. Have you tried the standard SmartThings presence sensor per phone?
@@SimplySmart123 not recently. I did like a year and a half ago with just my phone and it was wonky. My daughter turns off the wifi on her phone when she gets frustrated with our speed. Life360 initially sends an alert she has left but then figures it out and corrects it in the history. However... this won't work if it's triggering things when it 'thinks' she's left and is 'trying to figure it out and repair it'.
Does you daughter have cell service with Data?
Great video! Became a fan and subscriber!
Quick question; is it possible to not allow members to see other members location? Say my roommate and I dont want to share our location with each other but i want to use the 360 for the presence sensor only while not sharing my ST account with him!
So on Life 360 you WILL see the location of anyone invited into that circle if you open the app and look. But they do not need access to your SmartThings account.
Now if you use just your SmartThings account they will have access to you SmartThings account but not your location.
I would say Life 360 would be better in your case because I would NOT give them full control over your SmartThings.
Hi Justin will this work on the new app Regards jim
I think so but I haven’t fully switched yet. I guess I am just going to do it and deal with all of the issues and broken functionality soon so we can search for alternatives.
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks for responding :O) Hopefully you will make a video on the switch :O)
For sure.
How to setup life360 in the new Smarthings app?
Currently it’s not possible with the new app by it self. The new app is still missing a lot of functionality.
For me it does not give any free options- Ir says monthly fees and 7 days trial
Strange. I just use the free version.
I don’t know if you still get comments a year latter but after installing all is working but when my wife or I arrive home ST has a arrived time followed by a left and a second arrived a min later. Any idea what might be causing this. It caused the lock to unlock then lock and unlock again in a matter of a minute
Maybe try to restart your Life360 app. Keep an eye on the app to be sure it’s working properly. We need to determine which app is the issue.
@@SimplySmart123 wow. I really didn’t expect a response let alone a response in less than 10 minutes. Great videos by the way. Life360 seems to be working well all the tracking looks right and the times seem right. There also doesn’t seem to be a problem when leaving the house only when arriving. I’m using ST, Lutron, Life360, IFTTT and Sharptools. I have been trying to get a reliable location sensor for a while so I thought that maybe I had some old rule still running in another app but not the case(I have checked multiple times).
Hummm. Have you tried the new SmartThings presence sensors? They seem to be working great for us and they will show in SharpTools as a device.

@@SimplySmart123 thanks for the ideas. I haven’t had any luck with the ST location service ( I did however like the tip to rename the phone, awesome. It’s the little things ) I deleted and reinstalled Life 360 and deleted and recreated the home location in Life 360. I’ll have to check it out in the morning because moving the location in the app doesn’t change the sensor state in ST. Thanks again for the quick response and help
