The most expensive 250 Yamaha ever produced for it's time. I can still remember that 2 stroke smell and those power valves coming on line. As I worked for Yamaha for 5 years. Great Stuff
Brings back memories...I raced motocross (earning two AMA Expert licenses) as a young teen and then raced a TZ-250 for one season in '75 when I was 17/18...my Dad was an engineer out at Cape Kennedy during my childhood and he was my main wrench (and financial sponsor:)...Thanx, again, POP.
Just a fine point after so long. When you drill a sump plug for wiring, only drill from one flat to another adjacent flat. Also your plug in the video can already undo a quarter of a turn before the wire stops it turning. When you do one flat to another, you can wire it it such a way that it can not come loose one bit.You can make up a jig so you can drill plugs easily..
I remember i used to fit the piston down through the top if the cylinder with the inner gudgeon pin clip already fitted. Then i would fit the gudgeon pin half way and lower the cylinder onto the con rod. Then i just had to push the pin through the con rod and fit the outside clip, With some rag covering the bore in case i dropped the clip! I never fancied pushing the piston up through the cylinder as the rings were tight. Interesting video, I like the dry clutch!
The whole series of TZ engines were beautiful to work on which is just aswell as service life on parts was short, you did forgive them that though as soon as you got in the saddle.
Its very different from the 250 LC Road bike i used to have! My Cylinder head was one piece with two separate cylinders. The exhaust gaskets would work their way loose and start blowing!
Hello everyone, I´m glad that there are a large number of fans and enthusiasts of the Wankel engine and 2-stroke engine, the truth is that they are good engines, but due to the increasing pollution problems are increasingly scarcer. I have developed and patented two Hybrid Rotary Engines both 2 and 4 stroke, along with a new thermodynamic cycle "Cross cycle", that improves the cycles: Otto, Atkinson, Diesel, Miller and the recent HEHC Liquid Piston Engine.
Nice video! Difficult to find information how to adjust the axial play of the big gear wheel behind the clutch and the clutch basket itself; in axial direction both parts can move independently and in between the clutch cover keeps one of the shaft seals. Seems to be not that easy in my opinion.
Hi linus !!! I'm rebuilding a TZR 125 R engine and i have a little question: what type of product are you using to close the gearbox (it seems like yellow and you put it with a little brush) thanks !!!
I used Yamaha sealing compound for my club 250 racer way back in the 70's. It came in a tube & was silicone based but more liquified to spread thinner. I used small brushes to spread it. It was silver grey in colour & had a strong smell of a highly evaporative petroleum based product in it. I never had any oil leak problems using it. On any pull downs the Yammie goo cleaned off easily. Aviation gasket stuff often sticks like glue & can be time consuming to clean off, Rolls Royce jointing compound comes to mind. The Yammie race guys know what's best for quick & clean rebuilds. That's why Yamaha developed it.
weirdly, this has a therapeutic effect on me.. :)
thanks for the upload!!

steve Fowler coolest-sounding engineer dad ever. just from reading that. props
Sehr gutes Video. Interessant finde ich die Kupplung.
The world of true Road Race Mechanics.
Let's take it to the track at the Ridge Park in Wa.
We can drive a groove through the moss on the course!

Thank you rebuild from Japan.
I'm YAMAHA employee.
Can i get new Engine cylinders for 1KT-TDR250 from Japan? Dont want to install sleeves on my old ones. Does Japan still makes them or any one else.

+Cruz López Liquid Piston Engine. ??? what? a liquid what? tell me more..sounds pretty crazy...

Never seen an engine with this type of clutch !!
Beignet Clément Like Ducati, dry clutches.
Cool video buddy !!!!
you make it look so easy xD
Why didn't they make the mx models (yz) split horizontally too, seems like a much easier and quicker way to do rebuilds
Way more exoensive to make them like that
No squish? no deck height??
Great video, brings back fond memories of my three TZs. This was one of the last years with parallel twin, right? later then went to a V twin layout
1990 was last year before v twins
Sir i have two stroke cylinder i want to increase its rpm power please help me how i can increase the speed from its ports. Please help me tell me sir
Cool :) but does it not hurt when you see that waterpump ?
Break The Warrior All circuit and engine is too much dirty!
Broken clutch hub still being used:0
JohnBoyDeere doesnt do much, on my rm 250 there is a little bit missing, not that big of a deal

+linus Would that be otherwise known as "Aviation gasket"?

Are you still rebuilding the 250tz engines?

@@linus2910 have any tools or parts left to sell ? Or any top secret information for a new rookie to keep the tz250 dream alive ,happyrpmz

What gasket is that your putting on at 0:25?
Loctite 5923
That should be Yama-bond.
this is a 2 stroke engine,right?
That's right, two-stroke gives about twice as much power as a four stroke, with the same displacement.
does that make two-stroke engines faster than four-stroke engines?
because the 2 stroke use a complete cicle of piston the 4 stroke use 2 cicles

Not a tz750 motor
Right, it is a 250
No torque wrench on the block? Come on......
See 1:20
No narration, skipped lots of steps. That's why you got so many dislikes, bro.
