      Pretty much.
Not actual demons, but not humans either. They’re very short in stature, but with exaggerated features (huge teeth/claws etc).
The story is that they always stop their digging at night when they’re tired and say “tomorrow we will break through”, but god restores the wall.
During the end times they’ll learn from their mistakes and say “tomorrow if god is willing we will break through”, and god will will it, allowing then to break through, and alongside the west-rising sun this will start the end times according to islamic teachings.

It's always cool to see ancient civilizations depicted as having wisdom when it comes to great threats. It bugs me when some people have the idea that our predecessors were simple savages because they weren't as "civilised" as we are today. Less advanced doesn't mean less wise.

Ancient civilizations were brilliant within the context of their surroundings and circumstances, but whatever's behind that wall would probably get shredded if it was taken seriously, if it could have been fought with conventional weapons back then. On a similar note, people still have the potential to be savages under the right circumstances. Our societies and standards for behavior may have (arguably) evolved, but biologically we've barely changed. We should not take what we have for granted, and defend against the madness of hatred and intolerance.

      *Footnotes:*
_1._ See _The Jewish War, Unabridged_ by Josephus (Department of Antiquities: 1911.86.98). [02:30]
_2._ Lit. "the two-horned one." *Dhul-Qarnayn* was a legendary ruler described in the Qur'an as having built an iron wall, which was likely a reference to the construction of SCP-2309 by Cyrus the Great, who was frequently shown wearing a horned headpiece in artistic depictions. [03:13]
_3._ Referred to in the Judaeo-Christian tradition as Gog and Magog. In Islam, *Yajuj and Majuj* are peoples who will invade the world during the end times. [03:19]
_4._ *magian* = Islamic term for Zoroastrians. Possibly referring to a Mekhanite in this context, as many medieval Islamic sources conflate the dualistic aspects of the Mekhanite and Zoroastrian faiths. [03:33]
_5._ *Ahura Mazda* = Creator deity and object of worship in Zoroastrianism. [07:51]
_6._ *Adatum* = Old Persian rendition of Adí-üm, also known as Adytum, capital of the Sarkic Empire. [08:07]
_7._ *Karasci* = Corruption of the word karcist, the title of spiritual and secular leaders of the Sarkic Empire and its successor states. [08:11]
_8._ *daeva* = Zoroastrian term referring to false gods, or hostile supernatural entities. [08:14]
_9._ *Angra Mainyu* = Spirit of evil opposed by Ahura Mazda in Zoroastrianism, which in this context is likely referring to Yaldabaoth, the deity worshiped by the Sarkic cults. [08:15]
_10._ *Companions* = Elite soldiers of the Achaemenid Empire, referred to as Immortals by Greek sources. [08:26]
_11._ *druj* = Zoroastrian concept that can refer to falsehood, disorder, or non-existence. [08:58]

It reminds me of the Wall in Westeros, but instead of a wall of ice, it is one of iron and brass and is of course powerful enough to hold back the tide of an interdimensional invasion force that has been going on for so long. Of all the metanarratives, the Mekhanite-Sarkite conflict is my favorite. Drawing on the Persian Empire helps ground this SCP in the imagination. I can just about imagine Cyrus atop the wall and seeing the abominations breaking themselves against the wall's defenses. A very literal "edge of the world". The ancient war may have ended in a stalemate but nobody told these forces to stand down. So cool.

Dhul-Qarnayn is an Arabic name for an antient king which translates to "one with two horns", and his story was told in Holy Qur'an (the scripture of Islam).
The story goes like this; "Dhul-Qarnayn was a just, kind and physically powerful king who ruled most of the antient world (Allah "God" has graced him those gifts in order to bring peace to the people). He had a duty to roam the lands and helping any people he encounters. One day during his travel he found a small suffering village, after asking them about their troubles they told him that they were beset day and night by two raider tribes (it's not known if they're normal humans tribes, *I personally don't think so*). They told him that the two tribes are called Yajuj and Majuj, and they lived in a closed off valley between two great mountains. When he went to the tribes location and witnessed the sheer numbers and savagery of Yajuj and Majuj, He knew that even with his army & own might he couldn't defeat them. So he devised a plan and ordered the village people the gather all the iron they have and melt it, and he took the molten iron to the top of one of the great mountains that surrounds the valley and poured it at the the only entrance to the valley, creating a great iron wall effectively imprisoning all of Yajuj and Majuj, which saved the village people and all the surrounding lands of their tyranny (and potentially the rest of the world too)".
The story in Qur'an ends here, but Prophet & Messenger Mohammed (PBUH) had told us about Yajuj and Majuj's fate yet to be, by paraphrasing; "Yajuj and Majuj were immortalized by Allah inside their prison and they never stopped reproducing until they filled every space of their valley so they can be one of the finale tests for the faithful in Allah & his Prophets and Messengers before judgment day. every single day after their imprisonment they dug in the iron wall and every single night when they sleep the iron wall reforms it self and their work resets, and they have been doing this for countless centuries and will still do this for many more, That is until a day comes when one of them says after digging "we will continue our work tomorrow, If Allah Wills it" thus by invoking the All Mighty name they continue their work the next day from were they left off. and after escaping their prison they shall have such great thirst and hunger that they will consume all rivers and forests of the world and the only human survivors will be the faithful who had sheltered them selves upon a remote mountain with their leader Prophet & Messenger Jesus Christ (PBUH) whos has been returned from the heaven to lead the final people before judgment day, and by Jesus' prayer to Allah Yajuj and Majuj will be killed by small insects that have been sent by the All Mighty with swarms of birds to cleans the earth of their rotten bodies. in the end only those faithful who believed in Jesus' return and followed him will inherit the earth one last time for many generations before judgment day finally arrives."
Prophet Mohammed also said that, by paraphrasing; "All Prophets & Messengers of Allah, From Ibrahim (PBUH) to Moses (PBUH) to Jesus (PBUH) to me the Last Prophet (meaning Mohammed) had warned their faithful about the Big Signs that comes before judgment day which are by order of appearance:
Appearance of the Liar (also known in Christianity as Anti-Christ) -
The return of Jesus son of Mary -
The emergence of Yajuj and Majuj -
Appearance of an animal that speaks to humans -
Rising of a thick smoke around the world -
A sunrise from the west -
Three Meteors fall on earth one in the east, one in the west and one on the Arabian peninsula -
A great fire emerges from Yemen that herds the last humans on earth to the judgment land."

I remember reading the author's notes saying he studies religions and he read the story of Dhul-Qarnayn and was fascinated by it so he adapted it, I love how they managed to integrated into the Mekhanite-Sarkic mythos while still keeping it faithful to the source material.
