Even before Summerslam, the infamous night Kevin Nash tore his quad in that tag match, you can see a fan holding up a giant CKY sign. Always thought that was pretty cool.
Point Taken. That's why I avoid those types. Hell, sometimes I'm coming cross pessimistic or jaded, but I don't mind some fun, mature content with some needed comic arc in wrestling or other content. Seriously, some fans are too entitled and stuck up without being reasonable, open-minded, and constructive criticism in entertainment purposes and characters nowadays.

Yup, back then it was more than obvious and overdue that a crossover between Wrestling and Jackass had to happen. They just shared so much of the acrobatism and over the top hilariousness.
As Chris Pontius said on his and Steve-o's reaction video about the Umaga match, "They could have stressed the part about staying down a little more..." While "they should have known better", they weren't wrestling fans, they were comedy stuntmen contracted for an appearance, they should have been at the very least given one or two pointers about how wrestling psychology works. To them, WWE was simply a stunt, kinda like the Grocery Store Boxing Match, and nobody told them otherwise.

Johnny Knoxville was definitely going for the Kaufman/Lawler angle, which shows a knowledge of Wrestling and how to execute a fuad that would otherwise be too unbelievable and stupid to work. So the respect on both sides is there. Plus blurring the lines of what was real and not.
I am a hardcore wrestling purist as Ryan keeps mentioning in the video, and watching the Mania match live, I was disgusted. A week or two later I watched it back looking at it from a more modern lense, and I thought it was absolutely phenomenal.

I was a backyard wrestler and jackass was getting big so some talents used a few stunts from the show in payoff matches I remember thinking jackass and WWE would fit well together and I'm glad I was proven right
The Knoxville - Sammy “match” was simply amazing. The major feds going to a more sport feel is great, but pro wrestling needs this type of entertainment. It was truly a “fun” match that everyone could enjoy.

People complaining about that Sami v Knoxville match are ludicrous imo. I heard many people say it was actually their favourite part of that Mania night. Just loads of fun. That feud MADE Sami. He earned his introduction to the bloodline story because of his brilliant carrying of the Jackass angle. People who decry it don't know how to make a star, that's when Sami became a star.
I'll tell you exactly why Jackass became so popular at least for young dudes on the East Coast of the USA. I'm from Delaware born and bred. Before and during Jackass my generation did the same type of stuff they did. Public nuisance pranks, skateboarding and listening to obscure punk and metal music. It was like finding out there were pockets of pricks like us every where and it was awesome.
I was basically the right age for it, but never got into Jackass. I saw some, though, because my best friend was very much into it and would show me bits.
I'm surprised people were thinking that Sami deserved better or that this was below him. He wrestled Kota Ibushi while sitting in a canoe and hit him with an oar.
Zayn vs Knoxville is my favorite celebrity match. As a fan of both, it was great to see the Jackass crew come out and beat up Zayn. Aside from Zayn, maybe Miz might’ve sold the match pretty well and do with the pranks, but Zayn definitely out perform to make non wrestler look great at Wrestlemania.
I really enjoyed the Wrestlemania match and all the craziness contained within. Sami carried the flow of the match very well, and I doubt it was a waste of his talents. The complete opposite, in fact. And the fact that the Honorary Uce storyline came after that? Sami Zayn has done just well for himself.
