I almost moved to Cyprus in 2011. We rented a villa in Peyia for three months and hired a small car. I was attracted by the 15% flat income tax rate, but shortly after moving into the villa, there was a huge explosion that wiped out one of the power stations for the island. There were several power cuts a day from that point on! The heat was unbearable during the day. In the UK, if it rains you put on a coat and get on with it, but in Cyprus it is so hot that you can’t walk far, before you get burnt to a crisp- also many of the roads do not have pavements. Whilst I was there a young Polish girl was killed on the road that leads from Coral Bay to Peyia! Renting the car was mental, I went into a hire shop and told the guy I wanted a car for 3 months. He offered me his own 4X4 😂 Anyway, I ended up with a small white car (can’t remember the make). There was no paperwork, I just paid him cash up front. He said when I leave in three months’ time, just park the car at the airport and leave the keys on the sun visor 😂
@@ultimatehandyman a lot changed since then mate… Dividend Tax is 0% Solar panels take care of power & hot water Pavements on almost every road and new road throughout. I’d imagine lots of dodgy people about that’d still rent you there 4x4 😂
@@NuttersInCyprus Thanks for the reply 👍 I’m sure that the villa that we rented had solar panels, but they were just for the hot water. Back in 2011 there were a lot of problems with water too, but that could have been due to the lack of electricity, as I believe most water is desalinated (sea water). I remember talking to one guy and he said that all the new roads were funded by the EU, I’m pretty sure that is not a good thing 😉 The UK has turned to sh*t, the politicians from all political parties have sold us out to the WEF! I think it’s time to start looking abroad again 😂
@ultimatehandyman yeah your right alot of solar is attached to the water heater! And the same with the water cuts, we have had a few since living here. We have been fairly lucky! The house we are looking to buy has central heating, solar power water, triple glazed thermal windows, 2 ton water tank and I'm looking to put solar for electiricy in the garden. Coral Bay has had a full refurb, so has the main road running through Peyia so looks brand new. But either way, we are happy here for now, if something changes we'll look elsewhere! Time will tell
Looks a good location for you and your family very important to have access to every day things. Definitely get a car at some point and please do a video on it as I’m looking at Cyprus as a possible retirement option.
Great to see lovely little village , we think we’ve driven through there en route to somewhere maybe Troodos ? Are you near Polis were coming over early August hopefully .
@wendynaish8055 we are about 30 minutes from Polis and 20 minutes from Paphos. I've just googled and we're 90 minutes from Troodos, I have brought my tent tho so will paying Troodos a visit 😀
Is there any possibility you could do a walk around the British Cemetery please? My nephew & his partner are buried there, today my brother joined them 💔
I absolutely loved that. I haven't been to Cyprus for 4 years now and this has made me miss it even more. I'd previously gone there every winter for 10 years and loved it. I usually stayed in Paphos but passed through Peyia when I travelled to Coral Bay. There's been so much work done to the whole area since I was last there. Maybe I'll head back this winter. Keep your videos coming. 😊
@@lorraineillingworth810 agreed, very peaceful. With still being so new to UA-cam and the area, I wanted to get our early so I could fly under the radar 😆
Travel & Express is a company that operates island wide where you share a taxi with other people which is cheaper than going it alone. Sometimes a mini bus depending on the number of people and obviously a lot quicker than a bus. Should be able to find them on the internet. Good luck with the car. x

Wow been 18 yrs since seen that place. Last time was there I ended up getting blind drunk getting with girl in coral bay. Woke up next morning at hers in middle of nowhere. Ended up on a 3 mile walk in my boxer shorts back to Peiya in 40 degrees hungover nearly died not joking, my mum and dad just shaking heads in disgust when I walked in 😂 actually glad I’m old now.

@NuttersInCyprus I'm in mare Village September for my daughters wedding. Will see where u are next year and could meet up. Would be nice to see u both. Glad all OK tho mate x
Hi mate loved the video. We are planning on moving out next year and are looking at peyia as a possible location is it all on the hills or is lower peyia slightly flatter. Keep up the good work.
Thanks John, Peyia is hilly. Even lower Peyia is on the incline. One thing I will say tho, almost all the population in Peyia are retirees and they seem to manage so obviously very do-able!
Hi fella, I sent a message last week while me and my wife were on holiday in Pernera about a possibly retiring to Cyprus and everything hits the spot, only one thing worries us and that is how you deal with the heat during the summer months as that is a big concern for us and would be the only drawback.
We coped OK and people said it was exceptionally hot. It's the same in the UK with the cold weather if it throwing it down, icy and cold, you would stay home and pick your moments. Sat in a bar with shade and a drink soon sorts out the heat for us. Might be different for you!
@lorraineillingworth810 I'm going to full time Vlog, but in reality I'm a million miles away from making money on here. I'll continue my freelance work along side it. Emily has already been offered a few jobs but would mean switching to the working Visa. Something we are discussing.
@philnox7734 I bet you have some stories! we have probably crossed paths 😀 we're either in Sugar Bar or I sit outside the kebab house with an old Cypriot guy called Andreas in the day time.
Good video, lived there with family 5 years ago. Brings back good memories. Keep up the informative videos. 👌👌
