Wow I can’t believe the tone of this. I’m genuinely disgusted by how they are completely glossing over the vicious, barbaric, soulless slave owners and focusing on what he did, completely ignoring WHY he did it. This is disgraceful.

Their glossing over it because he killed white people that’s why . They don’t care as to why he did it they just care because it was white skin that was hurt and mutilated or whatever the case is. You can’t expect someone who’s white to come close to understanding . No matter if they call themselves “Allies” or whatever they call themselves . They won’t understand because it’s not a part of their actual history . Nat turner killed white men women and children because he along with other people of color were tired of being enslaved . They couldn’t do anything about it then . No laws would protect them . They couldn’t voice their complaints to anyone . So he killed the people he could kill to be free , at least be free in some way. Of course whites are gonna be in awe and say it was gruesome but when you have no one to talk to about being a slave or when there are no laws to protect you as a black man or women . You do what you feel like you need to do .

I think Richard Allen should be taught more of a hero than Turner.
He was a slave who through praying for his master, forgiving him, doing what he was asked, and always reflecting Christ he was able to turn his master to Christianity and his master let Allen have his freedom.
Even if your not religious, you can’t deny the impact Richard Allen had during his time as a slave showing peace as a good option for freedom in their situation but also his impact after his time as a slave.
I personally think it took more guts to do what Allen did because it is so difficult, almost impossible to love your enemy’s and he was able to pray and forgive his master.
I don’t really have an option of Nat Turner yet, I don’t know enough. But all I’m gonna say is if he killed just actual slave owners, that’s possibly justified. But women and children? Two wrongs don’t make a right.

@victornieves1794 Anthony Johnson, an African that was brought here against his will to be forced into a contract of indentured servitude, served out his contract & purchased his own tobacco farm & held his own indentured servants, one being John Casor. Long story short, Johnson wouldn't let Casor go after his contract ended in 1654 & it went before the court who ruled in favor of Johnson making John Casor the first person to be considered as property & declared a slave for life in what would become the US. This ruling led to Virginia legalizing the ownership of slaves for any free white, black, or Indian in 1661 which led to life long slavery for all Africans.

I'm a little late to this one, but I'm glad the didn't omit the savagery of Turner's rebellion, I am white as fuck but men like Turner are so interesting to me because he was willing to fight and die for the freedom of his people, he spoke the language that everyone understands and that's extreme levels of violence nothing was safe from his wrath he and his men killed their owners including their young children. I don't agree with harming children but it was a different time and a man's rage does not discriminate.
Nat Turner didn't lose his life in death, he was completely in control of it and finally free.

Nat and the Nat family and descendants we honor a great man and even greater warrior. To those to died at your sides, we honor you. Long live Nat Turner. I cant understand some of the comments here. One - is that the oppressor is in no position to dictate how the oppressed should react to thier oppression. Two - is YES Nat Turner was a hero. Do we not as a nation memorialize men such as Andrew Jackson? as a hero and several other white men who committed mass murder on an entire people men, woman and children. What Nat Turner did was a pebble in the bucket compared to the numerous barbaric acts throughout history that white men have committed the world over. In my oppinion this is just one of the many reasons why real history must be taught in schools to our children. Not as a guilt tactic but as a learning experience. Just maybe our children can learn at an early age to understand each others past...... If I misspelled anything or if my grammar isn't correct you can still get my point.
