As an immigrant who moved to the US at 15 years old from a Muslim country, I remember my history teacher making some remarks targeted towards me. That was 10 years ago. I recently visited the bay of pigs in Cuba, I was really surprised by how bad the location is for an invasion, very rocky with large boulders near the coast, the bay itself is full of coral, and then the whole region is surrounded by a ring of swampland with a single road really suitable for tanks which crosses the swamp into the rest of Cuba. The population is also extremely low in the area owing to the lack of resources, making the general tactic of plundering to feed the army not viable. I asked one of the locals who have studied the history there, and he theorizes that their plan was to create a tiny breakaway state (so the swamp is meant more as a feature, since it is harder to re-take the area if there is only one road in). Then the US would legitimize this state as the true claimants of Cuba, allowing the main US military to invade and "help" the breakaway state. However, we will never know, since the invasion was a failure. It also suggests US intelligence was probably very lacking in this case.

My dad served in British Armed Forces and was deployed in Kosovo in 1999. Back then the USA did the same to stage and justify bombing of Yugoslavia (Racak incident), which actually wasn't approved by the UN but they still went for it.

As a fellow Cuban I have a story for all of you. It was during the Cuban Missile Crisis. My abuela (grandmother) in Havana, heard trucks outside. These trucks carried the missiles from the soviets. They were under grey tarps. The missiles were so heavy they destroyed the roads. Even my abuela was scared during those 13 days of tensions. She did not want WW3 to start. She would see Russian troops moving the missiles. After the crisis was over, she was relieved.

I find it really interesting that Operation Northwoods can be discussed and analyzed with most understanding that the general goal was to start a conflict with Cuba, yet any discussion of potentially similar operations to start a conflict with Russia over Ukraine is viewed as completely unbelievable, even though we are all aware that these activities, if they occurred, would probably be completely classified and out of public view, so why are so many of us so sure it isn’t happening? To clarify, this is not to say an operation like Northwoods has or is happening; it is to point out that very few people are even willing to consider the possibility of such an operation existing up to and into the present day.

I'm from Puerto Rico and think of our history and that of Cuba and cannot help think these places would be very different (and probably healthier) environments if it weren't for the historic intervening of special interests and their agendas from Washington, whether militarily or corporations getting greedy. The United States and its interests have molded who we are as a people with lasting repercussions for generations. The current realities of these places is difficult for many who live there. There's a lot of trauma there, and I personally don't think we are better for it.

As an immigrant who moved to the US at 15 years old from a Muslim country, I remember my history teacher making some remarks targeted towards me. That was 10 years ago. I wish channels like this existed and I was informed enough back then. I recently visited the bay of pigs in Cuba, I was really surprised by how bad the location is for an invasion, very rocky with large boulders near the coast, the bay itself is full of coral, and then the whole region is surrounded by a ring of swampland with a single road really suitable for tanks which crosses the swamp into the rest of Cuba. The population is also extremely low in the area owing to the lack of resources, making the general tactic of plundering to feed the army not viable. I asked one of the locals who have studied the history there, and he theorizes that their plan was to create a tiny breakaway state (so the swamp is meant more as a feature, since it is harder to re-take the area if there is only one road in). Then the US would legitimize this state as the true claimants of Cuba, allowing the main US military to invade and "help" the breakaway state. However, we will never know, since the invasion was a failure. It also suggests US intelligence was probably very lacking in this case.

My grandfather was CIA the whole time. He was in the US military and was on the USS Indianapolis, and part of the Bataan death march. I have a picture of my grandfather and jfk that i was shown to as a kid, and was told my grandfather helped lead the bay of the pigs. Years later i find out the other name for the bay of the pigs was operation Zapata, go figure lol. After my grandfather actually died in 1988 my family was raided by feds none stop.

So what you're describing is called a false flag operation. It's not something that is unique to the US. It's been done for hundreds, if not thousands of years, to justify invasions. As a fellow Cuban I have a story for all of you. It was during the Cuban Missile Crisis. My abuela (grandmother) in Havana, heard trucks outside. These trucks carried the missiles from the soviets. They were under grey tarps. The missiles were so heavy they destroyed the roads. Even my abuela was scared during those 13 days of tensions. She did not want WW3 to start. She would see Russian troops moving the missiles. After the crisis was over, she was relieved.

I find it really interesting that Operation Northwoods can be discussed and analyzed with most understanding that the general goal was to start a conflict with Cuba, yet any discussion of potentially similar operations to start a conflict with Russia over Ukraine is viewed as completely unbelievable, even though we are all aware that these activities, if they occurred, would probably be completely classified and out of public view, so why are so many of us so sure it isn’t happening?
To clarify, this is not to say an operation like Northwoods has or is happening; it is to point out that very few people are even willing to consider the possibility of such an operation existing up to and into the present day.

I'm from Puerto Rico and think of our history and that of Cuba and cannot help think these places would be very different (and probably healthier) environments if it weren't for the historic intervening of special interests and their agendas from Washington, whether militarily or corporations getting greedy. The United States and its interests have molded who we are as a people with lasting repercussions for generations. The current realities of these places is difficult for many who live there. The Cuban missile crisis yes, this specific thing, I wasn't taught it at least, maybe some were maybe some weren't. For better or for worse most American history classes, at least before higher education, wouldn't concern themselves with events that didn't ultimately happen. So while we would absolutely learn that yes the U.S government was wanting a war with Cuba, and were taught about the red scare, we probably wouldn't be told of this specific thing
