The Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80, released in 2020, and the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, released in 2021, are two watches you guys have asked me to compare and contrast dozens of times in UA-cam and Instagram comments. So in this video, I'll do that exactly that, taking a look at each watch's strengths and weaknesses before framing an argument for who each watch might ideally be for.

Gentleman if it’s your only watch, PRX if it’s part of a collection. The Gentleman is more versatile but the PRX is more unique and exciting. Both are great for the price!
This comment is Definetly helping to narrow the choice down haha
I agree, the PRX has been a great addition to my collection
Why is Tissot Tradition Open Heart never talked about anywhere ? Is there anything wrong with it ?
I'm confused which one to buy between Le Locle and Tradition Open Heart - both black dial and bracelets. If by tomorrow I'm still undecided, I will go with Seiko Alpinist :D
For my blocky wrist I found the prx more appealing
Does Gentleman suit skinny wrists?
I expect Teddy to start a coat or jacket collecting channel any day now
I was JUST telling the wife he should start selling wallets, high end pocket knives, etc. He would be a perfect one stop shop for the guys! And if he mirrored that on the ladies side with purses/bags, total world domination! Lol
The amount of watches and modifications will never be enough
Ha! Finally someone else that acknowledges Teddy's impeccable coat/jacket taste😄
I think he reps Taylor and Stitch. This is their trucker jacket.
Well, if you look at his first videos, that’s where he started. Then quickly focused on watches as it brought more views I suppose.
Well I've had the PRX 80 Powermatic with the blue waffle dial for about 2 weeks now. It's a really cool, beautiful watch: I like its style! The Gentleman looks great, perhaps just a little too conservative and almost a bit boring for my taste. I find myself admiring the little details on the PRX.
One thing you didn't mention, though you can see it on the video, is that even though the PRX does not have micro adjustment, it does have two half links that can help get a good fit. I had to use one on mine. Worth mentioning......
After trying both watches in-store today, it was hands-down no competition that the Gentleman felt like the better watch. It feels better constructed, the dial looks much crisper and better finished. And it fits my 7 inch wrist without any overhang. I even prefer the bracelet as it feels more classic and less fad-driven. The silicone balance spring sealed the deal. I bought the Gentleman and I'm glad I didn't just buy a PRX without trying both first.
I agree. Went down to the store and was disappointed in the prx. The leloc and des tourelles felt and looked better than prx
I agree, in Zurich I tried both and Gentleman was the winner. Enjoy!
I couldn't decide which one to buy so I bought both. I absolutely love the fit, finish and dials on both watches. I went for the blue waffle PRX 80 and the Classic green on the Gentlemen 80. Thanks Teddy for the comparison.
blue waffle, oh my
You got it right with the green dial Gentleman. What a nice watch.
I want to do the same. I already bought the blue prx and I am in love, but now, I want the green gentleman 🥲
If you only could’ve bought one which one would be ?
The Tissot Gentleman is a fantastic watch. Can't go wrong with it.
Yup. I have the quartz and it's fantastic
One of the best values in the industry today!
I have both and I enjoy more the Prx.
The gentleman gets scratched way too easy 😔
Really!? Ok thanks, that’s useful
@@AlexMi77 besides for pictures the prx is way more photoghenic, the gentleman is very reflective
Even though the PRX has no silicon hairspring, it features the new Nivachron hairspring which is made from an Titanium alloy and offers very good magnetic resistance.
The PRX has the same regulating system as the Gentleman and can be regulated to pretty much the same accuracy as the gentlemen (my PRX runs at stable +3 seconds per day).
Also, what should have been mentioned here is that both bracelets have “half links”.
i don't know the meaning of half links, can you explain ? pls
The Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80, with its highly raised applied markers and great finishing, would make you think that it is a watch that is easily 2 or 3 thousand dollars. Given that it is such a bargain, I am surprised that more Swiss watch makers haven't followed suit, and produced models with this level of quality while being affordable.
If other brands are selling their watches for 3-4x more and people are buying them they have no reason to drop their price
@@WatchUnwind only the swatch group can really do this sort of price and volume easily.
Longines have some great sub 1k offerings.
@@boomdaus other watch makers don't have access to the quality of movement at this price point.
Since Tissot offers the Ballade with a Powermatic 80 COSC movement, it would be nice to see them also offer it on the Gentleman.
@@balesjoI'd like to see a ballade side by side with the gentleman, I'm torn between which one will be my first swiss watch.
Can't go wrong with Tissot! One of each in different colors would be perfect 👍🏻
100% when you can’t choice get both !
As
Imagine if Tissot brought out a 36mm Gentleman 🙏👌
I have both the PRX Quartz and Auto in blue, love them both! I am also a Holy Trinity member and own an AP Royal oak 15400. And as a AP fan I’m loving this PRX to death! That’s why you buy it to get that Nautilus/Royal Oak look and feel without the price or worry! The gentleman is a very nice watch but there is nothing that special for me to drop money on it! The fact that the integrated sports steel bracelet watches are impossible to get now, the PRX definitely has come in the perfect time!
Is the quartz Tissot PRX a little bit smaller than the automatic Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 ? It looks smaller in person.
@@RolexTimex it's just a bit thinner. Everything else is the same.
A true horologist right here one that can respect a 50k watch and a 500 dollar watch all the same!! Congrats on your collection
@@RolexTimex it’s thinner but I think it’s negligible
@@WatchUnwind Exactly. One should appreciate a good watch no matter what the price point is.
This was my exact question 10 days ago, when I was trying to buy myself a birthday present. I went with PRX finally.
I have them both in ice blue. The PRX bracelet is uncomfortable and put a deluge strap. I find it that I won’t ever but a watch with out micro adjustments, t-fit glide lock. I find my Rolex Submariner wearing more. The day just doesn’t have it either.
Love the idea behind the Gentleman. I do prefer the slimmer bezel on the PRX, however. Thanks for making these low cost offering comparisons.
Just wanted to say that your videos covering the Tissot Genteleman Powermatic 80 Silicium finally got me to purchase one and it's my first significant watch purchase. Thank you so much. I really enjoy your videos, even those that cover watches that I can't afford (yet). Cheers!
Iv just bought the gentleman. no regrets at all. For the price point and what you get it’s amazing. 👌🏼
Teddy, Just today unboxed my green Gentleman from you and it's more than I expected for $775. This video convinced me to purchase it.
The tissot gentleman has a ridiculous amount of "Pull" to it .. such a charming watch .. been looking at it for a good quarter of the year .. tried it on first time didn't like it .. the more I tried it the more I liked it .. finally with black friday sale I pulled the trigger on the silver white dial one .. looks beautifully understated classic design love it !
Excellent comparison, Teddy. Have had my Gentleman (this very model) for about a year and a half now and love it. Wear it 1st or 2nd most of the 7 watches in my collection. I do dig the PRX, but not the waffle dial-definitely prefer the look of the Quartz PRX. Still, though, with my Gentleman in the collection and too many other watches on my wish list, don’t see a PRX in my future.
After a year and a half of considering, last week I bought myself a Gentleman Powermatic 80 with blue dial. This is a fantastic, very accurate watch!!! Your review helped me to decide which one to buy. Thank you Teddy! I hope you make a test video of the Zeppelin watches someday. My family has four Zeppelin watches and we love them too!
I really love my PRX in office environment. Great watching for the money! And the blue looks great, in sunlight a shine blue in the afternoon sometimes more or less black. God Video, thank you!
I really do enjoy my PRX. I find it gets good wrist time in a collection that includes a SBGA211, Explorer-ii polar and a Tudor chrono.
The best watchbrands for every price range:
-Tissot
-Nomos
-Omega
-A. Lange & Söhne
Tissot knocked it out of the park on these two. The gentleman is my go to watch.
Wish they'd release a 38mm version of the silicium
Only for men with big hands. Ech company should make each models in at least 2 different sizes, otherwise they discriminate against big group of customers and losse opportunity to earn more
Teddy.. be serious. Quartz gentleman looks like a cheap copy of powermatic 80. There are quite important differences. Blue colour is not the same, quartz has less markers and no framed date. When you put two gentlemen next to each other, quartz looks like cheap copy.
Totally agree. Teddy failed to mention the huge differences between the automatic and the quartz versions. The blue dial in the quartz is washed out and the markers look cheap. Definitely not the "same finish" as Teddy claims.
Best solutiom:
Buy both!
1. Gentleman Powermatic
2. PRX Quarz
...
3. Seastar
Hello Teddy, I am always surprised of your ability to read customer minds, explaining exactly what we want to know about a watch, without being snobish. Keep doing this great job man!
The quartz versions make a lot of sense. You could buy both pieces for almost the same outlay, no need to choose😃
This exactly what im about to do. Also i prefer the smooth face on the prx
I give consideration to that.
I really like both of these, and the Powermatic 80 being a real advantage. The omission of micro adjustments is a miss for both. As for the Gentleman, I dislike "Silicium" on the dial. (Google tells me it is a skin care product 😳) Reminds me of the American car manufacturers slapping "Turbo" and "Euro" on their cars in the '70s. A bit of a deal breaker for me.
"The omission of micro adjustments is a miss for both" - I Agree, but leather band solves it. "As for the Gentleman, I dislike "Silicium" on the dial". - I Agree, but not a deal braker for me, since this material is a synonim of performance and not as common in this price range. Regards,
which looks better with tshit/shorts/sneakers look? I assume PRX, because Teddy says it is more sporty?
Just ordered the prx yesterday, (jared is doing 20 percent off for valentine's day sale)
Why does the prx have quick release spring bars if there’s no straps for it?
My parents wedding anniversary is coming up and I wanted to get my dad a nice proper watch. I’ve gifted him a Rolex in the past and he refused to take it because of the price and told me to keep it for myself. So now Im thinking the PRX is the way to go. The price isn’t ridiculous, even for an average person who doesn’t know about watches, yet it still exudes a certain class, punching way above its weight class.
I prefer the PRX... it's just amazing in person. For a do it all I like the Longines conquest in 39. Although for the price the Gentleman is a great piece. Might go check out the green variant.
Got my first Tissot the other week. My wife bought me the Tissot Ballade for just under $400. Chronometer certified with the powermatic 80 movement and silicum hairspring. Can’t beat it for the money. Great gentleman alternative.
Congrats ! Got yourself a great watch there and sounds like you have an awesome wife
@@WatchUnwind ,
This channel never fails to impress with the high quality of its production, in all aspects.
I'm looking forward to seeing the 36mm PRX.
I think the leaks suggested that it'll be 35mm variant
@Will Harris Myself. A real man can wear anything he damn well pleases
I have the gentleman, very happy with it wore it in the ocean it was good to go. Wore it in a suit looked good. Mines all scratched up now, adds character. Very happy with the watch my first “real” one. +5 seconds a day
So you do read minds. Just searched exactly this comparo a week back, now you come up with the final nail in the coffin of my purchase decision ❤️
Going to get my limited edition PRX in collaboration with Bucherer on Friday! cant wait! Thanks for the video Teddy 🙌🏽
My wrist circumference is about 5.75in - 6in. Top of wrist diameter is about 2in. Which watch would fit me better? Also should I go for 5.75in or 6in for my wrist size/
I have the Gentleman in green and love it.
My favourite Tissot is the PRC200 Powematic 80. Everything the Gentleman offers, but with 200m WR and good lume.
I'm out with the large lug to lug. Is it only Seiko that understands lug to lug measurements?
These are two great watches, with amazing dials, and movements for the money. I don't love their bracelets though. Obviously, still really good for the money. That said I think the Tissot T-Sport Gent-Xl Swissmatic has fallen under the radar. It is a great everyday watch that is only about $500. It has a fairly plain, but cool dial, with a design inspired by a race car's speedometer. The case polishing, bracelet and clasp are amazing though. Every time I wear that watch I am amazed at how great they are, especially when compared to other much more expensive watches in my collection. Off topic, but I am picking up a Baume and Mercier Riviera today. Super excited!
The PRX really ticks all boxes if you love Genta Designs. The integrated bracelet is amazing. The waffle dial and see thru bottom. Double clasp. A Swiss automatic movement. What else can you ask for. This could easily be a 3-4K watch
No it isnt. There are also good competitors in this range to 1k and below. Maurice Lacroix Aikon, Citizen tsuyosa, Christopher Ward the twelve, yema wristmaster.
3-4k? you need to see more watches. heaps better watches out there.
The Gentleman is a perfectly acceptable, well executed watch but for me seems totally generic in looks and has next to zero wow factor. Do the eyes closed test, can you picture the Gentleman from memory? I can't. Now the PRX , I can see every little square on that waffle dial, the bezel rising out from the brushed case and of course the bracelet and that slim fitting case. 10 years down the road I could see myself bored with the Gentleman but still wanting to wear the PRX.
I bought a beautiful Gentleman Powermatic 80 this summer (blue on brown leather) to commemorate a professional success.
I would had preferred its bezel to be brushed and not polished steel, but that is a matter of taste.
The PRX, however, has one major flow: it sports a proprietary bracelet integration that can neither accept leather straps, nor any other bracelet.
Hey Teddy, I was wondering when we would get another ARCHIE LUXURY collaboration video. It's been 3 years so I think we are due for one! Good one arch!
Bought the Gentleman with the leather strap recently and love it. The dial is beautiful and changes under different lighting. Love the strap. Lot of watch for the price point for sure. Keep up the great content Teddy.
I take both. The prx automatik blue and the gentleman in green 💚💙
Bought a PRX on the weekend, the first of my collection and honestly think it was the best decision.
Purchased the Gentleman (blue dial as shown) a year ago. Wear it almost every day. Great value purchase.
Bought the gentleman yestarday, before watching this video. Main idea was to get a more accurate watch than my old orient. So I'm happy to hear that my pick was a good one.
I got the PRX first and then bought the Gentleman as well. I usually wear way more expensive watches but these are just so nice to wear and punch way above their price range.
Which one you prefer?
@@hawaiibeach782 Very hard to tell - like them both a lot but I suppose the Gentleman gets a bit more wrist time....
Teddy, fully agree with your judgement. I bought the PRX because I love the 70ies look , still love my Visodate with the 50/60ies charme with PVD gold and leather strap/clasp ... For entry into watches Seiko and Tissot are the best brands.... but also for people who simply cannot spend the money for Omegas, JLCs, etc. ... both brands have great pilot and dive watches as well - plus pure dress watches / Greetings from Germany
Weißt du wie man an das neue Lederarmband Armband rankommt was mit der neuen PRX rauskam?
The PRX gives you the Zenith Defy at a fraction of the price.
I came onto say I'm surprised to see you wearing an outside coat indoors. Surprisingly, the first chanel comment was also about this but from a different direction.
Can’t tell if this is drake bell or Tom holland
In my opinion, the Tissot PRS 516 Automatic is better than both the PRX and the Gentleman. Though it has a 40 hour power reserve, it is more sporty and better-looking. And has a better lume in the dark as well.
I bought the PRX over a month ago and it can't leave my wrist. I tried to wear another watch today but I went back to my PRX immediately. Incredible watch and value!
Teddy, it is clear: for beginners Gentlemen, for more conaisseurs the Tissot AP Waffle LND Oyster Quartz aka PRX; LND stands for Like No Date :) Greeting from Germany
Very pleased with the green Gentleman that I bought recently.
It definitely wears larger for a 40 mm, as mentioned, due to the 48mm lug width. The bracelet isn't as high quality as I would expect but a good value for the money. I chose the Gentleman over the PRX, As I would enjoy changing up the band or strap with the bracelet. PRX, not so much. Again, just my opinion and observation.
Do you have the quartz or the automatic?
@@intellect4840 I have the automatic. Very pleased with this. However, you can't go wrong with either one.
@@thomashelm6931 yes it is quite nice. I'd rather have the automatic but the quartz for the price point is amazing. Both watches are great value
I own the gentleman just don't like the prx look the bracelet and face
You can't tell the difference from 3 feet, so...
You can't go wrong with a Tissot anyway.
I don't like a "plastic" hair spring balance in the PRX, almost disposible like a sistem 51. That's why I prefer the Gentlemen
The Gentleman is a perfect everyday watch. Can be found for $700 but could easily be mistaken for a $5,000 watch. Made with craftsmanship and premium materials. Finishing is fantastic. The movement is incredibly accurate for this price point with over 3 days of power reserve.
The PRX is great too, but doesn't have the same wow factor when you see it. It doesn't look like a luxury watch the way the Gentleman does.
I tried them both on ... the PRX was just too chunky for my taste. The Gentleman, especially if you go with the quartz movement, is quite thin, and it looks like it costs five times what you actually pay for it. A leather strap makes it the perfect accessory to a sports jacket, while on a bracelet it's perfectly at home with any dress suit. Pair it with a field or dive "weekend watch" and you're all set. (In my case, a Hamilton Khaki mechanical; total cost for both (!) was under $1,000.)
I just wish the PRX P80 was a sunburst dial, and if they did it in the same green as the gentleman, I'd need a small army to hold me back from buying it.
A friend got a PRX Quartz and i mus say WOW! Finishing is great and the blue dial is beautiful :)
I need some quick advice… I recently purchased the PRX automatic blue waffle dial. One morning I picked the watch up out of my watch box and wound it 30 times. However, I forgot to check if it was still in its 80 hour cycle. To my surprise it was still running and on the current date and time. Will my winding it 30 times damage the watch? Please advise thank you. 🙏🏻
I’d like to compare that dial to the vacheron constantin overseas
Gentleman for sure. no second thought. easy decision for daily wear. PRX for collectors, not for me XD
Was searching about this topic on UA-cam 10 hrs ago.....😁
Thanks for making this video
Dammit! Just tell me which one I should buy, Teddy! 😂
Seriously though, I like the look of the PRX but it just looks too much like a Royal Oak knockoff. I know I may never be able to own a Royal Oak but I refuse to settle for the PRX.
However I have been eyeing this exact same Gentleman watch lately. I think I may pull the trigger on this one.
As always, thank you for the video breakdown!
The tissot gentleman is my daily and it is such a solid watch. Feels more expensive than it actually is.
Damn, the way you shot and (I assume?) color corrected these watches in the intro makes them look so good. Tissot should pay you for the footage
Got a Tissot GP80 as my first watch purchase. Couldn’t be happier with it. Got lots of compliments and many think its much a more expensive piece.

As a mexican thats paid way above average (but not rich), thank you for these videos. A $1000 watch would definitely be an (if my GF allows it 😅) aspirational watch.
thanks Teddy ! but, I'm still undecided. both appears to be bigger than their bezel size. lug to lug around 50 mm . I'd say this may suit bigger size wrist, although I've seen them on 6.25 n 6.50
Just saw these at my local Macy's on sale. Too small for my 8in wrist.
As a gift, I bought the boys the Gentleman. The retro 70s styling is cool but is a matter of taste. The Gentleman has classic style like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Longines Conquest, ect ...
A great video Teddy! Two of my current favourite dare I say it 'value' Swiss watches currently in production. A very good compare and contrast view of these two in my opinion from the underrated Tissot brand. I do have the PRX PM80 in blue dial form and for the price it is a bargain. It's slim and on my 7" wrist works perfectly with a case /bracelet finish that others at this price should take note. The PRX more expensive sister (or brother) the Gentleman is also a well executed watch with the Si balance spring being more anti magnetic as you say and may justify the difference in price. I also have the older PR100 that I guess was the model to be replaced by the Gentleman that I'm more than happy with. My PRX and PR100 in daily use are single digit second accuracy each day. I do prefer the date at the 6 on my PR100 compared to both but the PRX gets away with it at 3 a tad better probably because of the modern retro 70's design and pressed waffle dial.
hello everyone! i'm turning 18 soon and i promised myself that i would like to get a nice watch, i like the seiko 5 or the tissot prx, i love the look of each of them but i can't decide which is the right choice, would you have any advice if it makes sense for me to buy something like that? I adore the world of watches and I would like to buy something better than a casio g-shock, no offense, I will always love casio, but I would like to enjoy something different, interesting and ideally something that will last forever. thank you for your feedback !
Wouldn’t put the prx here although i love that watch and own one because it has the very cheapest version of the powermatic 80 with plastic parts. Maybe a Certina DS action diver instead, has the upgraded movement and is equally nice in terms of quality and finish.
Bought the gentleman from Teddy 2 years ago and wear it every day. I’m not a bracelet guy so I have many straps I change out on this watch. My favorite is the navy colored Rado NATO strap you can buy at Teddy’s shop.
Gentleman for a 6.25in wrist? Can’t decide between that and the 35mm Prx.
Which one is your preference among:
1. Tissot Chemin Des Tourelles Automatic
2. TISSOT Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium
3. Tissot PRX Blue Dial Automatic
4. HAMILTON Jazzmaster Automatic Blue Dial?
Gentleman would be my choice. I don't like waffle dials, even on an AP.
My 18th birthday is in two weeks and I have to chose a watch but I can’t decide between these two and the Longines Conquest, they’re all beautiful
I really like both these watches, I have seen ton of videos about them and read all about them. But then I went to store, tried them on, and found that neither of them fits me, neither of the felt right for me. Prx is lovely, but doesn’t really match my style. Gentleman felt a bit too big (optically it feels bigger), but actually also a bit cheap. I love minimalism, but it felt like “too many big flat surfaces of steel” with certain lack of detail finesse. Long story short, you can’t really judge a wristwatch until you put it on your wrist and “feel” it, it seems.
I hate these companies writing their entire lifestory on the dial. Why can’t they just keep it clean. I love the prx so much but the dial looks very cheap with the additional “PRX” and “powermatic” written on it. They could have just stayed with their logo.
I’m probably the only one who finds nothing to like about the PRX.
I have the green dial gentleman. My favorite watch from my collection.
I like the Gentleman, but only very slightly more, and really, I love elements of both. The Gentleman has nicer hands, indices, and movement, but I prefer the overall proportions and design of the PRX case, the thinner bezel, the bracelet, and the beautiful dial texture. However, I really dislike the PRX font... I instantly see an old Subaru WRX nameplate, of which I've had two. Not bad cars, but not elegant like these watches, and the PRX font looks extremely awkward. It's the only visual element I disliked when seeing the PRX in person.
