Fun Fact about Boukenger, Overdrive's Sentai: Like Overdrive, it was a anniversary season, so every monster was designed to look like a former megazord. This is best seen in Moltor having the same head structure as Mighty Morphin's megazord, and I realised that the bad luck monster was very similar to Serpentera. It's a small thing, but I like it.
there is one episode i wish that disney had adapted from boukenger not really plot relevant but would've been funny basically one of ryuuwon ( moltor)'s monsters finds a fruit that increases intelligence and at one point after giving it to some of the foot soldiers THEY GO ON STRIKE
@@RhyperiorRanger i know right it's all like ryuuwon: ATTACK THEM foot soldiers: yeeeeeeeah no ryuuwon: WHAT!!! foot soldiers: we're going on strike till you pay us better ryuuwon: I DON'T PAY YOU
There were quite a few actors who played in multiple seasons starting from ninja storm to operation overdrive, Kelson Henderson being the one that I think was in the most seasons, i.e. boom and Phineas, as well as a few one offs from other seasons
@@christopherlitzner8445 They even do that with voice actors, Kamdor's voice actor would go on to voice the much more interesting Sledge in Dino Charge.
My personal fan theory is that Zedd and Rita genetically engineered Thrax with their own DNA and their magic since Rita didn't like the idea of carrying a baby and giving birth so he was born an adult. It would make the time-line make a bit more sense; I think.
Lewis, I know that re-uploading these videos has been tiresome over the course of about 8 years, so I would like to say, Thank you for persevering. And for uploading my favorite HOPR.
@11:46-11:59 At least until Ninja Steel introduced us to a gold ranger that is a country singer who wields a ninja electric guitar gun-bladed weapon and has a cellphone that is in the shape of a cheeseburger. A.k.a..."The Burger Morpher from Ninninger".
Neo-Xgray87 Right Levi, sorry. Thought his name was Eli till you pointed it out. However I still think there were worse rangers than him though, non-backstage issues withstanding.
My theory about Thrax: Remember, Zedd and Rita are fucking *ancient,* my theory is that they were married *long, long ago* in the past and were divorced for some reason or another. Maybe conflicts with him becoming her boss, or maybe even conflicts over raising their kid. It explains how Thrax is so old, why Goldar turned Kim into a Rita clone (or tried to, at least), why Rita is called the "Empress of Evil", even though Zedd is the "Emperor", why Rita ran for the hills when Zedd suggested having a kid (Thrax may have been part of what split them up, in the first place), as well as why Zedd is still in love with her after the love potion wore off. He was *always* in love with her and vice versa, they just had a rough patch that lasted a few millennia.
This makes no sense cuz where was thrax throughout the whole series, why appear now Him being their kids would make mmpr revelant to him, meaning he'd have motivations to fight the rangers BEFORE encountering the crown, unless he was just chilling around the universe during the last 20 years I prefer linkaras theory, in addition to the theory that maybe thrax was genetically engineered instead of born and therefore either aged quickly or was born as an adult
9:49 ironic considering later on in Once A Ranger, when they lose their ability to morph, and are temporarily replaced by Legacy Rangers, they frakkin quit. Nice
You know what my biggest issue with Thrax's design is (besides the stuff you mentioned)? There's a lot of Zedd in his design-- his red skin kinda looks like muscle tissue, the bits of armor covering his body, the Z staff, the partial visor over half his face. To reiterate, his design has a lot of Zedd in it... but there's no Rita. Admittedly, this is also a bit of a personal gripe as Rita Repulsa is my favorite Power Rangers villain. And I know, you could argue, "he it's genetics, it's not a perfect 50/50 split of each parent." To which I respond, it's fiction, you're allowed to get away with things like that in fiction. The most we get of Rita in Thrax's design is the (presumably) leather bindings around his horns much like how Rita had her hair bound. Hell, I think Thrax using Rita's wand would have made more sense than the Z staff.
I think he takes more of his looks from his father Lord Zedd, his uncle Rito, and his grandfather Emperor Vile. Had Zedd and Rita had a daughter she would look more like her mother Rita with her magic rod.
Holy crap I LOVE the idea of there being multiple villainious factions rather than just a singlur big bad with an army of loyal followers, creates a unique twists and helps shake up the fighting. Though from the sound of things, eventually the show just has a single big bad and really it looks like there's not much TOO these factions.
Sara Fontanini I just wished that they had done better in executing the multiple villain factions as being a more serious threat instead of being portrayed as badly-flushed out characters in this season. I mean, these guys deserved to be in a far better season of Power Rangers season that needs to last more than just 20-32 episodes a year and should've been written as actual serious characters. Not just poorly-established comic-relief characters. This ain't like fucking Ninja Storm with Lothor or Turbo with Divatox!
yeah I thought as much. I mean if they fuck up at the heroes, there's no WAY they could've made the villains any damn good. and I'm not too fond of the designs, though the cat guys look cool after their transformation, but in genera their designs just seem...bland and generic to me, or goofy in the case of ice guy.
Sara Fontanini You mean the Fear Cats?! Well, the black armored version of the Fear Cats are actually pretty cool. But their actual forms...not so much. I blame that one on the sentai.
Exactly, hence why I said they looked cool after their transformation, but before...ehhh...at BEST they look generic, and at worse they look...silly, I suppose.
Okay, the whole treasure hunting thing is really not handled well in this series in my opinion. All of the ancient artifact, from several different civilizations all just happen to lead to one another and the Jewels? It feels far less organic and more of a global Rube Goldberg machine. At least in Boukenger, the Sentai series that Operation Overdrive was based on, it was just a simple treasure hunt. Artifacts with terrible power were being uncovered, villain factions popped up to get them for various purposes, heroes show up to stop them/ get the Precious (In series name for the artifacts in question) first. Also as poorly acted as the rangers in the Neo-Saban era before Dino Charge are, at least the characters were mostly altruistic, these guys? They just act like ass-clowns, except for Tayzon, but then again he was already altruistic before becoming a ranger.
Once a Ranger just made me wish that I was watching a show about a team of vets led by Adam going around and cleaning up the mess that got past the Zordon Wave. That would have been more interesting than...whatever Overdrive was trying to be lol
14:58 - Well, personally my theory is Rita and Zedd had an affair sometime before her initial imprisonment in her "dumpster," and that's where Thrax came from. Just a personal theory.
fun fact, the sentai counterparts of miratrix factions, were a clan of ninja mercenaries called dark shadow, leaded by a talking owl (yeah the monster that miratrix turns in) , while miratrix's counterpart is literally a comedy villiain while kandor (called yaiba) is just another member but the only one of them that is truly evil. And another fun fact, in the sentai all the villains came from earth, (moltor was a crazy scholar corrupted during his investigation of ancient civilizations, gajah (japanese counterpart of flurius) was a priest of an ancient civilization, and the only survivor (also a comic relief), and the cats (called questers) were from an ancient tribE named ashu ( by the way the silver ranger in sentai is a half ashu)
Not only that, but visually, they were based on the megazords!! The Questers were based off the Dairanger mechs, while Ryuuwon and his foot soldiers were based on Zyuranger’s mechs. I believe that Yaiba and Miratrix’s counterpart were based on Kakuranger. And the other monsters were based on mechs too!
Agreed. These videos also taught me some behind-the-scenes bits, as to why some decisions were made(be it good or bad) Like why some characters were written out of the show.
It's a good thing you got these out when you did. My fix fic for Super Megaforce, which sticks closer to Gokaiger, is gonna get to the episode of Gokaiger that paid tribute to Boukenger soon, so I needed a refresher on what happened in the series...at least towards the villains.
It's both on Archive of Our Own & Fanfiction.net if you wanna read it. Search "Power Rangers Pirate Crew." I finally got to introducing the 6th ranger & diversifying the plots from Gokaiger a bit more than I have, not to say I wasn't, but before, it was mostly just adapting stuff to work within the context of America, for the most part. The least I can say is that it's better than SM, but if you're of the sort of fan that likes when Power Rangers is as different from Super Sentai as you can get outside of the footage, you might be a bit disappointed, since it's my opinion that Gokaiger was already really good, so not a ton of overhaul was needed in the transition.
Y'know I had some ideas to improve super megaforce. Like the obvious ones.(Give the characters proper devlopment, acknowledge the lore of the franchise in a non superficial way, have proper tribute episodes, have actual explinations for the pre zyuranger teams, etc.) -Make Vrak more like Basco.(I'e having Vrak using Orion's "6th ranger power" to create clones of the 6th rangers led by the reprogrammed Robo Knight, instead of just adapting the endgame arc of Goseiger. Hell, I would of made Basco's Monster form a new form for Vrak.) -Include Troy's connectiin to the Morphing grid. -An origin story for the Ranger keys. -Adapt the Megazord battle of 199 great hero battle.(Also making Black cross titan the ultimate form of Emperor Mavro.(By extention I would of made Emperor Mavro the reincarnation of Dark Spectre.) I Would handwave the return of Destoryed zords as Gosei using his power to restore them.) -Expand on Gosei's affiliation with zordon. (My interpritation they were part of a ranger team of eltar. Goranger.)
@@TheArceusftw Honestly I had the idea of making Vrak a full-on anti-ranger. Gosei reveals he actually made the super megaforce rangers to be a six-man team, with super megaforce black instead of silver being able to utilize the sixth ranger and extra ranger keys. Unfortunately, Vrak makes off with the sixth morpher, modifying it to become Super Megaforce Black, whilst also using Basco's trumpet thingy to create reinforcements. Orion's power as Super Megaforce Silver would effectively be the morphin grid almost responding to his desire to help the rangers, creating a proper "sixth" ranger morpher for him so that he may retake the powers stolen by Vrak.
Ronnie: "We don't always win. Sometimes the bad guys do. But we can't let that stop us. That is what makes us heroes." Funny how you seem to have forgotten that in Once A Ranger. It's almost like this series is poorly written or something.
It’s sad to hear him mention calling Robert Axelrod to voice Thrax since he is now the late Robert Axelrod. Yeah I know this was from long before then but it’s still sad. Sorry not trying to bring everyone down. Just bums me out that we’ve lost Robert recently
Yeah. I said in the HOPR episode on Cosmic Fury. But I still think If I were to add something to Once & Always. It would be a reminder that Zed is still out there (So they can both confirm it's before Cosmic Fury. And have a tribute to Robert Axelrod at the end)
I remember recording this show as a kid, and even though I was pretty sure I clicked the right one, I wondered why Face to Face pt 2 had such a long "previously on..." I rewatched part 1 almost the entire way before realizing it.
Here's my fanfiction for Thrax. My theory is that after blowing up Zedd and Rita created their strongest monster yet. A monster based on themselves using their magic. In sense he kinda is their kid but not really. (Think Superboy being the son of Lex and Superman.) The problem was that he was too strong and evil so Zedd and Rita banished him through time with the help of Master Vile who does know some time related powers.
10:22 if you look closely during Tyzonn's first transformation, you can see him actually fail to press the transformation button on the device and readjust his hand slightly. I don't know how that made it in but it's hilarious
yeah Zedd Jr is a pretty disappointing design, not only for the half-mask & the generic bad guy voice (it would be even funnier if he actually sounded like a male Rita) but also because doesn't really look like Zedd other than the red & nothing of his armor really resembles Sorcery like Rita's, maybe a bit of the Green Ranger's armor/Dragonzord. his design needed at least one more revision... then again is Overdrive so this is probably the best we could get
I will actually have to disagree with you on one point, Linkara: I kind of like the Mercury Ranger outfit. Admittedly, the purple bits are garish, but the rest of the outfit works very well, in my opinion. I think it may be because of the orange, since we so rarely get to see an orange ranger of any sort (side note: I really miss Kat Manx).
Astrithor I don't have a problem with the Mercury Ranger suit. But I just can't stand his debut fight scene. It's the fucking badly-paced fight choreography that killed it for me. I mean, look at the Thunder Rangers' debut fight in Ninja Storm as an example. That was bad-ass because it was trying to show how mysterious and dangerous they are to the Wind Rangers. Hell, even the SPD Shadow Ranger's debut fight was pretty awesome. But the Mercury Ranger's debut fight scene?! Who the fuck directed this scene?! M. Night Shyamalan?!
To me, I kinda like the Mercury Ranger as well but I understand why Linkara would hate it. Although, I didn't notice the police sirens in his shoulder pads until I saw these retrospectives!
I like the suits in general. I never even noticed the shoulder pad thing until Linkara pointed it out. I wonder if his opinion on the visuals aren't impacted negatively by it being in such a terrible season. I watched Boukenger first (years before I watched Operation Overdrive), which is a much more well-rounded series, and really enjoyed the look of everything in, from the suits to the weapons to the robots. And that's the one thing Operation Overdrive can't ruin. I find these the best suits with a car theme, even. Pull off the whole headlights in the helmets thing way better than Carranger/Turbo did.
@16:29-16:44 Pretty much summed up why the majority of fans disliked every season of the Neo-Saban era in which their villains each have the same generic gravelly villain voices each year. It's not really menacing, compelling, or interesting to watch. it's just dumb.
Alan Krumwiede I guess. At least he's a lot more memorable than Master Xandred, Octoroo, the majority of villains from Megaforce/Super Megaforce, Lord Arcanon, Galvanax and Ripcon.
I remember talking to Richard epcar, voice actor who actually did a lot of monster voices during the early seasons of power rangers, and he agreed that the monster voices utilized on the newer seasons lack distinction and personality.
Bobby Torres that I can agree with. But in terms of non memorable Neo-Saban villains Heckyl, Sledge and Odious (so far) are all very memorable. Each have a distinct personality and are fun to watch. You know sledge is popular with fans since he’s being brought back
I think that Hartford didn't just whip up the Mercury Morpher, but had instead been developing it for himself and decided to pass it on to Tyzonn when he saw that he was more qualified to be a ranger.
While that may be the case, it just kinda came out of nowhere. It would've been interesting if they built up on that starting with the 3rd or 5th episode.
Though in the Disney era, this was the worst teamups. One of the few things Disney did better then the tail end of the original Saban era. Which was (to me) ended with Time Force.
The thing that kindda sucks about thrax is that we actually know where at least one of his parents are. Rita's the magic queen. What the heck is she doing during this? or is that why Zander's there? Rita was just like, "Hey, Zander. My son is doing some evil things. I'm wrapped up here doing magic stuff and who knows where Zed is. Here's your powers. Go stop him for me." On that line of thought, how much cooler would it be if it wasn't the Sentinel Knight that recruited the past rangers, but a reformed Lord Zed. Again, we don't know where he is. Then we could have Lord Zed fight Thrax. A little Fanfic-y? Probably, but it's at least a smidgen better than what we got.
Cody Forsha i would like to see lord zed become a mentor in a future season. Maybe getting injured and getting his villian look back.(staying good of course.) or a power ranger suit that looks kinda like it.
"Atlantis subsequently becomes a giant monster..." Vrak: Far too complex for you to understand "Tyzonn manage to uncover hidden longitude and latitude coordinates on the parchment with some lemonade..." Gosei: There's a simple explanation for that...
I fear I may have to nick the "Shut up Dax!" and head banging jokes for my HOPR inspired Dragon Ball Retrospective when I get to GT... replacing "Dax" with "Pan" of course... But hey imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? Right? XD In any case, great to see these videos on UA-cam now. Sorry that you've had to go through SO much crap with video hosting sites though, not to mention the difficulties with uploading these videos to UA-cam because they don't understand their own policy. A feeling I know too well with the aforementioned retrospective you inspired me to make. Have a great 2018 Linkara :D
Everyone is theorizing about how Thrax's parents could have protected him from the Z Wave or how he got sent back in time forget one possible factor: his grandfather. Master Vile could have sent Thrax back in time to either protect him or let him train/grow on his own until his family was ready to bring him back. The Z Wave stopped all that cold, leaving Thrax stuck in the past with just his own capabilities. Thrax being trapped in the past would bring him into conflict with the Sentinel Knight, leading to the events of Once a Ranger.
Heck. I can imagine Thrax mentioning it to mess with Adam "My grandfather sent me back in time. Which is why I was safe from what your mentor chose to do"
@@AT4W so the water fall that is out side of the wind ninja academy. that's the same water fall that tyzonn was at when he saw his flexion in the water
Is it just me, or does it feel like everytime a theory about why something in this season happens, it's immediately debunked by something said right after that makes that impossible?
Oh, so it isn't that this season is terribly written, terribly placed, and just didn't seem to care about what it was actually doing with its story. Okay, good...wait a minute...
Is it just me, or is any else tempted to blow a kiss to Rose when the "You're rich, buy an army!" line is shown.(Another reason why Once A Ranger sucks!)
Here's a strange theory: Thrax was born out of wedlock, long before the events of MMPR. Think about it, it's already pretty clear that Zed had an attraction to Rita, the whole love potion thing was really kinda redundant in the end. What if this wasn't the first time they had tried a relationship? Maybe Zed didn't even know he had a son. Sure, there's about 5 million new plot holes this opens up, but frankly, there's no patching this thing over neatly.
15:28 Counter thoery, The Sentinel Knight opposed them during Countdown to Destruction so they sent Thrax back in time to prevent him from ever interfearing
I'm not sure why but speaking of Rita how did she, Goldar, Finster, Squat, and Babboo ended up in dumpster 10,000 years before the events of the Mighty Morphin? And what team put her in there? And when did the dumpster got on the moon? And outside of Kimberly giving the ancestors the coins and in the first movie where were the evil forces were that the previous teams had went up against? Gosei: There's a simple explanation for that.
I have a theory as to way Thrax looks as old as he does, even though he should be at least 13-15 years old, and why he fought the Sentinel Knight years before he was even born; Time travel. Maybe as a contingency, Both Rita and Zedd decided to send their son millions of years into the past, to protect him from the Power Rangers, and were planning on retrieving him if the invasion was a success. They even might've even sent a monster to take care of Baby Thrax, until then. But due to them being reverted into good, thanks to the Z-Wave, and knowing that their son was still evil, they decided to let Thrax stay in the past, until he either died, or gets destroyed by the Power Rangers. But then again, that's just a theory.
0:48- Or as I dub it: the Batman Season 3/Classic Who method since both tend to do this; the later at times during the Hartnell-Troughton era and some times the first six years of the JNT era (notably S18-19)
Re: Thrax- I chalk it to his lineage being tied to another dimension he and the Sentinal Knight derived from. Why not? PR and alternate worlds (ignoring COTRR as both Tzachor and James Bates were morons for retconning RPM as another dimension considering how everything else goes between SPD* and the timeline of Time Force) fit just like DC's and Marvel's *If Futurama's first episode taught us anything is this: things get destroyed, rebuild, rinse and repeat. That and not even SPD is immune to a time scale adjustment since we're slowly sloping toward the 2020s
I kinda wonder if Drax was a illegitimate child that zed and rita had, before the start of Season 1 of power rangers. It would make sense his age and his first encounter with the sentinel knight
I'm sorry but this has been getting under my skin for awhile but the weapon you keep bringing up is not an electric guitar it is a shamisen, a traditional three stringed Japanese instrument.
The thing with dax and miratrix could have been handled better. It could have been a thing where miratrix shows some regret over having had to lie to dax, or showcases some hesitancy when encountering dad, but tries to push it aside for the sake of her goals, and dax perhaps believes that miratrix isn't completely evil, that maybe there is some good in her. Maybe the two meeting in secret rendezvous away from their respective sides and can only be themselves when they are with each other. It would have given dax more to do with his character and add some necessary complexity to miratrix's character. Heck you coukd even still do the thing with miratrix getting trapped in that crystal, but more of the case that she sacrifices herself to protect Dax. Maybe Dax helps Will defest Kamdor and he takes the crystal from him. And maybe by the end of the series, Dax carries the crystal with him so that she'll always be close to his heart and hoping to find a way to set her free.
I'll give this Power Rangers season major credit for some things. One, I liked the quest storyline. Two, I liked that there are different villain factions all after the same thing who don't necessarily get along with or like each other. Three, I didn't see the Max Android twist coming or the Pinocchio like magical ending and I give the production team major props for that deep arc in a kids show of all things.
part of me likes that this is an in depth retrospective of the series but another part really wants a sort of timeline video summing up all the major events of the entire series.. though i imagine 30 years of shows was already a lot to watch through for this, let alone again to pick apart and tell in a cohesive overarching timeline
I definitely believe Thrax not only takes after his parents (mostly looks like father but has his mother's human face...well half of it) but he also takes after his Uncle Rito that would explain the under bite and also his grandfather Master Vile in my opinion that's where the horns come from ( I know Master Vile's horns look nothing like that)
I wonder how Adam and Kira are going to explain this to Tommy though and after all these years watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when I was a little kid I can't believe Lord Zedd got Rita repulsa pregnant eww
Something interesting that I think could work for why Thrax is there, is that he might've been born as he was but not as powerful. But when Countdown to Destruction took place, he decided to leave as to not be hit by the Z-Wave, by jumping through time to get an artifact before Power Rangers existed. But to his surprise, there was still some powerful warrior that was protecting it, and as such, he was sent in a space dumpster and it protected him from the Z-wave millions of years later. There's nothing in cannon to fully support it, unless you take some themes from the comics as well, but at least it's something to explain the plot hole time jump, instead of thinking the audience is dumb enough to just go with it because "Fan Service".
With Thrax they should have made the face complete and made him Zedd's older / younger brother. Would have made more sense after all, one brother goes for the Zeo crystal the other goes for the Corona crown. This is probably the only other season I would have gone with the Sentai version (never saw it); the first Super Megaforce; third the team up episode for Mighty Morphin, Dino Thunder, Dino Charge for their final battles. (Hell I completely rewrote Gokaiger into Armada Squadron (not going into to much detail; but 2 extra rangers; making up planets / races / and back stories for the Sentai Powers; alternate stories for Seasons 1 and 2; Time Force was Minority Report the Series; changed SPD to Eltar instead of the future Earth; as so forth; and other changes which are TLDR to put here) for my head cannon; and used them - with info from Time Force - to rewrite the end of Dino Super Charge to mimic the team up episode I mentioned earlier)
My theory on how thrax was somehow imprisoned so long ago by the sentinel knight is that thrax is a time traveler who went to the distant past in search of powerful artifacts
Only in Power Rangers can you say: A samurai using an ancient ninja weapon that is an electric guitar that is also the remote control for a mammoth Zord...
You know, the idea of the descendant of previous villains being a villain isn't a bad one, especially for an anniversary season, they could've saved Thrax for say Mega Force, or hell it was implied that Goldar and Scorpina had a thing going similar to their sentai counterparts, just not overt, maybe have their kid as a big bad for a future season
It's funny you say that... Cuz in Gokaiger, the sons of the Sentai counterparts of Shimatzu and Vexicus show up to fight the Gokaigers in their Hurricanger (Ninja Storm) tribute episode...
I always thought the reason Hardfard didnt make an army was that the morphing grid couldn't handle a ranger team bigger than 6 or 7. Then Dino Charge came along and shot that idea in the head with its morpher
Yeah but Dino Charge is in it's own universe. Plus he probably was going to duplicate the Overdrive powers but consider what happened with the White Ranger powers in Dino Thunder he decided not to.
@@stephenholloway6893Then again it wasn't revealed to be an alternate universe until the Dino Supercharge finale. Unlike RPM where it was made obvious that it was one right away.
@Rabbitlord108 Sure but then again Ninja Storm apparently was going to be in their own universe as well but that season got retcon in the main universe in the following season.
I think something that could have really been awesome if people took some time and effort was made was to have some nuance to miratrix and have her feel maybe a little guilty for having to deceive Dax. And maybe even have the two be star crossed lovers, sneaking around in order to be together and it would also add something more to Dax as opposed t be some idiotic, mugging doofus, whereas he is uncertain if miratrux can be trusted and his own uncertainty over whether he can trust his feelings for miratrix, and likewise miratrix tries to deny she feels anything genuine for Dax, but can't really fool herself and it's a back and forth thing and maybe the reason miratrix gets trapped in the jewel by kamdor is because he instructed her to kill the blue ranger and couldn't bring herself to do it, and Dax and her fight against kamdor together and just as they are about to finish him off kamdor traps miratrix in the jewel right in front of Dax and she cries out Dax's name and he is helpless to save her. He goes into a rage and fights kamdor and takes the jewel from him and Dax is still carrying it with him by the end of the season hoping to find someway to set miratrix free or something, or maybe she is set free by the sentinel knight and the two of them head off together with miratrix maybe being Dax's agent as well as his girlfriend.
i really loved the variation in villains . not battling only one bad guy but more and they are going at each other as well. all i wanted was a good battle royale instead we got this
One of the ways to fix Operation Overdrive, make Thrax the main villian of this season instead of a stupid one off villian and make freeze and heat mizers (at least that's what i call them anyway,) be the main villians, i mean he's Rita and Zedd's child, they could've made him be aliiiiittle more important then he was and plus they showed Thrax was an actual threat to the rangers, Make it that he wanted to destroy the universe to avenge his parents.
Jaden Omega And maybe make him more compelling to watch and *GIVE HIM A FAR BETTER VILLAIN VOICE THAT ISN'T SO GOD-DAMN GENERIC AND GRAVELY!!!!!* Anything that would make me want to take this character very seriously as a threat.
I got to say after all these years watching Power Operation Overdrive Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa had a baby I wonder how Adam and Kira I going to explain this to Tommy
I think Zedd and Rite sent Thrax back in time to train him or something and that's how he fought and was defeated by the Sentinel Knight and subsequently avoided being purified or destroyed by the Z-Wave.
The whole reveal of Thrax being connected to Rita and Zedd felt shoe-horned in for fanservice. Then again, I don't remember the scene with Rita and Zedd talking about having a kid, so maybe this is canon?
Fun Fact about Boukenger, Overdrive's Sentai: Like Overdrive, it was a anniversary season, so every monster was designed to look like a former megazord. This is best seen in Moltor having the same head structure as Mighty Morphin's megazord, and I realised that the bad luck monster was very similar to Serpentera. It's a small thing, but I like it.
You mean, Blothgaar? Yeah, I always liked the design of that monster. :D

At least until Ninja Steel introduced us to a gold ranger that is a country singer who wields a ninja electric guitar gun-bladed weapon and has a cellphone that is in the shape of a cheeseburger. A.k.a..."The Burger Morpher from Ninninger".
Neo-Xgray87 we had weirder Sixth Ranger weapons
Ty kamen Tell me about it.
At least Eli isn't that bad of a ranger, at least to me. From what we've seen from seasons past to current, we had much worse pick of rangers...
OmegaRay100 "Eli"?! You mean, "Levi", right?!
Sadly we didn't get that.
@@Igarappappa I mean, we never got a canon explanation that fills the plot holes, there, so it could still hold.
This makes no sense cuz where was thrax throughout the whole series, why appear now
Him being their kids would make mmpr revelant to him, meaning he'd have motivations to fight the rangers BEFORE encountering the crown, unless he was just chilling around the universe during the last 20 years
I prefer linkaras theory, in addition to the theory that maybe thrax was genetically engineered instead of born and therefore either aged quickly or was born as an adult
My theory he actually time travelled to make sure his parents wont be good
9:49 ironic considering later on in Once A Ranger, when they lose their ability to morph, and are temporarily replaced by Legacy Rangers, they frakkin quit.
Or perhaps a special staff that combines elements of Rita & Zedd's.
Sara Fontanini P.S. The Ice guy is named, "Flurious".
Exactly, hence why I said they looked cool after their transformation, but before...ehhh...at BEST they look generic, and at worse they look...silly, I suppose.
09:48 Its really funny that she forgets these words of not letting evil win and not giving up, during Once a Ranger.
Linkara however doesn't care about Boukenger.(Dosen't mean he won't review it given Patreon requests.)
nexusshark I say the characters from The Legend of Korra are more selfish than the Overdrive Rangers, themselves.
They also don't keep the useful ancient artifacts. Mjolnir is understandable, the cannon not so much.
Once a Ranger just made me wish that I was watching a show about a team of vets led by Adam going around and cleaning up the mess that got past the Zordon Wave. That would have been more interesting than...whatever Overdrive was trying to be lol
And even better then seeing THE GODDAMN OVERDRIVE RANGERS BEING FUCKING QUITTERS 🙄
Theory: Thrax isn't actually Zedd's son, he just claims he is as an ego/reputation boost.
I actually like this theory.
God I want that to be true.
Curses UA-cam forced him to edit out easily the best scene in this season with the old rangers saving the OO team’s hide.
Yeah, it's what happens when the sequence is a full minute long. XD
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall can't you shorten it just a liiiiitle bit :D?
Dion Aji Well, there's still a clip of these rangers saving these douches in UA-cam at least. ^^
Incitos 98 someone else probably already uploaded it on this very website
The good news is every season upto super megaforce is on UA-cam for free now uploaded by the official power rangers channel
In the words of Lord Zedd's voice actor himself, "Thrax... is a PEST!"
When did he said that?
Just curious...
@@luishernandezsoto At a convention. :)
@@Hewylewis Maybe Rita was right all along.
I wish Robert Axelrod was still alive, so I could hear him say that. R.I.P. Robert Axelrod.
@@nine_tails137 I know theres a video of t somewhere on UA-cam.
14:58 - Well, personally my theory is Rita and Zedd had an affair sometime before her initial imprisonment in her "dumpster," and that's where Thrax came from. Just a personal theory.
"Save us from the Fearcats!" ...how do you say that without wanting to laugh?
I dunno but I find it funnier if you made her voice lower and maybe make the audio slower.
It doesn't help that the line is delivered slowly and her follow up line is delivered too quickly.
fun fact, the sentai counterparts of miratrix factions, were a clan of ninja mercenaries called dark shadow, leaded by a talking owl (yeah the monster that miratrix turns in) , while miratrix's counterpart is literally a comedy villiain while kandor (called yaiba) is just another member but the only one of them that is truly evil.

Wow, that's WAY more interesting.
Well I hope nothing bad happens to these videos. After all, your History of Power Rangers are always great and entertaining.

Agreed. These videos also taught me some behind-the-scenes bits,
as to why some decisions were made(be it good or bad)

Stop sticking your dick in the timeline, Barry! That's what Iris is for!
It's a good thing you got these out when you did. My fix fic for Super Megaforce, which sticks closer to Gokaiger, is gonna get to the episode of Gokaiger that paid tribute to Boukenger soon, so I needed a refresher on what happened in the series...at least towards the villains.
Scsigs Gaming Good luck with the fixfic Scsigs! Looking forward to it.
Ever thought of making videos for? Like Creepypastas, but without the creepy?
Y'know I had some ideas to improve super megaforce.
Like the obvious ones.(Give the characters proper devlopment, acknowledge the lore of the franchise in a non superficial way, have proper tribute episodes, have actual explinations for the pre zyuranger teams, etc.)
-Make Vrak more like Basco.(I'e having Vrak using Orion's "6th ranger power" to create clones of the 6th rangers led by the reprogrammed Robo Knight, instead of just adapting the endgame arc of Goseiger. Hell, I would of made Basco's Monster form a new form for Vrak.)
-Include Troy's connectiin to the Morphing grid.
-An origin story for the Ranger keys.
-Adapt the Megazord battle of 199 great hero battle.(Also making Black cross titan the ultimate form of Emperor Mavro.(By extention I would of made Emperor Mavro the reincarnation of Dark Spectre.) I Would handwave the return of Destoryed zords as Gosei using his power to restore them.)
-Expand on Gosei's affiliation with zordon.
That is what makes us heroes."
Funny how you seem to have forgotten that in Once A Ranger. It's almost like this series is poorly written or something.
Then again Ronnie probably forgot she said that during Once A Ranger when she along with the others wanted to leave.
I remember recording this show as a kid, and even though I was pretty sure I clicked the right one, I wondered why Face to Face pt 2 had such a long "previously on..."
I rewatched part 1 almost the entire way before realizing it.
"Oh no, he turned out to be a jackass" that sarcastic tone was just the cherry on top, I laughed so hard from it.
10:22 if you look closely during Tyzonn's first transformation, you can see him actually fail to press the transformation button on the device and readjust his hand slightly. I don't know how that made it in but it's hilarious
It feels like one of those bloopers Pixar would have during the credits.
"We really only have two extremes with alien races: either humanoid or oh god, run away."

To be fair Tyson's weapon being a metal detector kinda fits with the whole adventure theme the show is going for
To be fair, Thrax could have just matured extremely quickly compared to humans. We don't exactly know much about Rita or Zedd's biology.
That's a fair point.
yeah Zedd Jr is a pretty disappointing design, not only for the half-mask & the generic bad guy voice (it would be even funnier if he actually sounded like a male Rita) but also because doesn't really look like Zedd other than the red & nothing of his armor really resembles Sorcery like Rita's, maybe a bit of the Green Ranger's armor/Dragonzord. his design needed at least one more revision... then again is Overdrive so this is probably the best we could get
His character was completely pointless.
Would a male Rita be Gilbert Godfrey?
The way Tyzonn screams at 4:24 sounds like Homer Simpson
Happy New Year! I know nothing about Operation Overdrive, but I am loving these videos. Thank for you for all the great content!
I can agree for the most part, though I find the sholder pads ugly.
@16:29-16:44
Pretty much summed up why the majority of fans disliked every season of the Neo-Saban era in which their villains each have the same generic gravelly villain voices each year. It's not really menacing, compelling, or interesting to watch. it's just dumb.
Neo-Xgray87 I love Sledge as a villain. The voice works for him
Alan Krumwiede I guess.
You know sledge is popular with fans since he’s being brought back
Alan Krumwiede those are exceptions. Exceptional exceptions
21:58 - 22:00 The only reason I can say Once a Ranger isn't the worst Power Rangers team up.
Ok but it.... oh right I forgot the legendary war. Nevermind.
Too bad Go Go Power Rangers isn't there.
Though in the Disney era, this was the worst teamups. One of the few things Disney did better then the tail end of the original Saban era. Which was (to me) ended with Time Force.
It's not as bad as the Space Rangers team up with Ninja Turtles no seriously that actually happened look up episode shell shocked
Go stop him for me."
On that line of thought, how much cooler would it be if it wasn't the Sentinel Knight that recruited the past rangers, but a reformed Lord Zed.
According to a game called Super Legends, Zedd became an archaeologist.
Zedd: let me fight my own son
"Atlantis subsequently becomes a giant monster..."
Vrak: Far too complex for you to understand
"Tyzonn manage to uncover hidden longitude and latitude coordinates on the parchment with some lemonade..."
Gosei: There's a simple explanation for that...
1:53 Ah I see what you did there since in the original version you said The Pink Pirate instead of Pirate in Pink.. Nice save there Lewis.
JamesTheBrony/JTB too much pink energy is getting to his head
9:48 Well clearly you DON'T believe that as we'll soon see.
Igarappappa Or maybe she forgot about that when she lost her powers. Then again, she learned absolutely nothing within this 32 episode season.
I fear I may have to nick the "Shut up Dax!" and head banging jokes for my HOPR inspired Dragon Ball Retrospective when I get to GT... replacing "Dax" with "Pan" of course... But hey imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? Right? XD
In any case, great to see these videos on UA-cam now. Sorry that you've had to go through SO much crap with video hosting sites though, not to mention the difficulties with uploading these videos to UA-cam because they don't understand their own policy.

Is it just me, or does it feel like everytime a theory about why something in this season happens, it's immediately debunked by something said right after that makes that impossible?
MLDKF It's just you.
Oh, so it isn't that this season is terribly written, terribly placed, and just didn't seem to care about what it was actually doing with its story. Okay, good...wait a minute...

Man the sentinel knight sucks.
Shawn Marcy Along with Dax IMO. And Will's actor.
Worse then Gosei and Mentor Mentor.
Robo Knight is worse
Thrax: *exists*
Zordon Z wave: am i a joke to you?
0:36 Why is watch someone else's pain so funny?!
13:25 not a bad idea…
14:52 I knew wasn’t the only one who thought about that scene as soon as Thrax revealed his linage!
Good idea
0:48- Or as I dub it: the Batman Season 3/Classic Who method since both tend to do this; the later at times during the Hartnell-Troughton era and some times the first six years of the JNT era (notably S18-19)
Okay, this may not be an important comment, but is the waterfall the same one where the Secret Ninja Academy is from Ninja Storm?
Thrax could've been a time traveler or was banished to the past. Doesn't excuse the less than stellar writing, but the explanation could work.
7:00 "they kick ten kinds of ass, so..."
Maybe the enemy kicks the eleventh kind of ass?
Re: Thrax- I chalk it to his lineage being tied to another dimension he and the Sentinal Knight derived from. Why not? PR and alternate worlds (ignoring COTRR as both Tzachor and James Bates were morons for retconning RPM as another dimension considering how everything else goes between SPD* and the timeline of Time Force) fit just like DC's and Marvel's
*If Futurama's first episode taught us anything is this: things get destroyed, rebuild, rinse and repeat. That and not even SPD is immune to a time scale adjustment since we're slowly sloping toward the 2020s
actually the producer of rpm said that it was meant to be a alternate continuity during production.
disney era power rangers Lynn maybe but not Eddie G
Careful where you scream “NO!” Tyzon. You might alert the Wind Ninja Academy to your presence
I kinda wonder if Drax was a illegitimate child that zed and rita had, before the start of Season 1 of power rangers. It would make sense his age and his first encounter with the sentinel knight
5:56 That parchment is really nice
I'm sorry but this has been getting under my skin for awhile but the weapon you keep bringing up is not an electric guitar it is a shamisen, a traditional three stringed Japanese instrument.
Then perhaps the show should present it as one. Instead of an electric guitar. Which they do.
7:35 Tyzon died dabbing
That or dabbing can sometimes turn you into Mercury.
I like to think Thrax is a creation of Finster. Possibly fusing in boths DNA or Magic.
Alternatively Zed and Rita 'dated' before her dumpster
The morphing grid looks like the CGI tunnel they backflip through in the SPD morphing sequence.
part of me likes that this is an in depth retrospective of the series but another part really wants a sort of timeline video summing up all the major events of the entire series.. though i imagine 30 years of shows was already a lot to watch through for this, let alone again to pick apart and tell in a cohesive overarching timeline
6:21 which is unironically one of my favorite zords in the entire series
Have they ever done a Power Rangers prequel? Like maybe about Zordon when he wasn't in a tube. That would be cool.
The boom comics sort of dwell into that
Only in Power Rangers can you say: A samurai using an ancient ninja weapon that is an electric guitar that is also the remote control for a mammoth Zord...
I wonder what are the chances of Linkara reviewing the 2017 Power Ranger movie?
jagarcia0705 He did a midnight screenings with Brad (The Cinema Snob) on it.
He won't cover it as part of HOPR because it's not part of the series.
If it were a patreon sponsored episode, you think he might review it then?
That'll have to wait since he's not taking more requests until he finishes his backlog.
He might talk about it when he Reviews Ninja Steel
I always thought the reason Hardfard didnt make an army was that the morphing grid couldn't handle a ranger team bigger than 6 or 7.
Then Dino Charge came along and shot that idea in the head with its morpher
Yeah but Dino Charge is in it's own universe. Plus he probably was going to duplicate the Overdrive powers but consider what happened with the White Ranger powers in Dino Thunder he decided not to.
Aahh I get it. Cause Dino Charges Morpher is gun
@@stephenholloway6893 Touche.
Thrax would've been a better villain for Megaforce with the whole anniversary stuff.
@PowerRangersWolfRangerKoragg Who's Chronos?
4:26 is that the same set that the ninja storm base is?
I got to say after all these years watching Power Operation Overdrive Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa had a baby I wonder how Adam and Kira I going to explain this to Tommy
Fireheart as in Mystic Force right?
Red Red Well, Briarwood WAS mentioned in that episode.
Kudos for actually banging your head in the wall, Linkara.
You could have faked that, but went all in.
Unlike this season. HEYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
3:45- 3:48 Dax is right tho. He respects the bro code!
You’re rich, buy an army
Calling it now: Linkara will say "Shut up, Jax" at some point in Beast Morphers.
Nitro Indigo I anticipate the “ACTING!” line to even come up with Blaze’s mugging and somewhat overacting... lol.
8:55 that line delivery was just awful
SAVE US FROM THE FEARCATS everytime I just cringe
3:24 Hmm, that looks familiar (searches up Kakuranger)
Man and I thought Vehicle Voltron was over doing things with how it took 6 to 8 vehicles just to form the damn robot
9:47-9:58 remember those words when the ep “once a rangers” happens
this better that history channel
This is better than the History Channel.
