That's really where you get to see that iphone produces pretty pics meanwhile sony gives true to life content. One thing ppl fail to understand. Also were you using photopro? How experienced are you with sony cams?
Sony is more "natural", but it comes down to preference about what each person likes to see. Some feel that is too dull and would prefer a more eye catching photo out of the camera. As mentioned in the video, all rear photos with the Sony were taken with the Photo Pro app.
@@GrantLikesTech I see what you mean. Ywah the colours do look more natural on the sony. The camera is great and the photopro makes it more challenging because you'll never know if the phone took a bad image or you lol, that's one part that can suck but overall the cameras are great...Sony doesnt have to improve them much on the next model, they need to fix the HDR on the phone. @@GrantLikesTech Hard for them to tell the difference since you didnt show 1/100th of what the Xperia could do. How could someone look at this video and choose?

It's computational photography versus camera photography. With computational photography the poor dynamic range of the tiny sensor is really extended by firing several shot with different exposures while with camera photography you are trapped by the low dynamic range of the tiny sensor. Conclusion: Camera photography: More natural colors but blown highlights and no information in the dark areas. Computational photography: Many information in the highlight and dark areas but unnatural colors and lighting. It's up to you chose what best fit your taste. Personally I would like to have something in the middle as both positions are too radical for me.
I prefer iPhone's camera over Sony's. I have DSLR for camera photography as you said. For quick moments capture I prefer a phone which would give me automatically enhanced photo
There is an obvious HDR enhancement with the iPhone 12, great photos nonetheless. Sony just emulates how the photo would be if you were to use a DSLR or Mirror less camera with no computational extras. I guess it comes down to preference. Great video and comparison 👍🏿
Thank you for doing audio comparisons! I'm an audio enthusiast and almost nobody does audio comparisons. I wonder if LG V30 is the champion when it comes to internal mic recording, or there's a better phone?
First difference I noticed were the skin tone difference. There looks like a reddening effect on the iPhone. Generally the iPhone has a smidge better HDR but in some extreme scenes it's evident it has the superior HDR but at other times it washes out all colour and makes the image look too flat. One thing I have to know is; what was the true colour of this flower 3:46 ? Out doors colours were fairly comparable up until here where there is a huge colour science difference. I liked some scenes more with the iPhone because of the HDR but it also ruined some shots too such as at night. The night time photos of the Xperia are more eerie and have a night atmosphere. The iPhone has an external light on whatever it's taking a picture of and presents very artificial images. I like the detail but the moment it's capturing is very different from what it should've been. Some photos I want it look like night but that user control isn't present on the iPhone unfortunately. I really liked what was going on with the iPhone for some things and I definitely see it being a reliable camera. The Xperia had some great shots but also some really crappy ones too. If the Xperia was more reliable and predictable it could be a much better point and shoot. I just wish the iPhone had more user control for night pictures and videos. I'm not a fan of overprocessed media especially where it isn't to my personal preferences. I want to give it to the iPhone but some of its HDR algorithm really gets in the way of the moment and at least on the Xperia there's Photography Pro and Cinema Pro so I can really decide what I want and have a good enough point and shoot system.
Thanks for your detailed thoughts. The Xperia definitely takes more effort to get quality images even in auto mode. iPhone to me tends to overdo things like sharpening, colors, brightness. Because of that for your accuracy question, it goes to Sony.

Possibly, you could start with their P-mode which isn't full manual to start playing with exposure easily and move onto other settings in manual. Always good to read up on the different controls to understand the basics. Learning about light and composition helps a lot too.

Thanks for your hard work. I agree with what your said, I really would like Sony to put on effort into the point and shoot so it's like best of both worlds.
Dang it, I really wish Sony would put a team together that will rebuild their stock camera to be more consumer-friendly. I definitely see where the Xperia is delivering way more details in a lot of these shots, I like what the iPhone is capable of doing, but I am also a big fan of the Xperia however I think Sony is holding back the success of their own smartphones because they have their focus in the wrong place when it comes to a consumer product such as a smartphone.
Great comparison. WE CAN see that iphone do better in much more area than the Sony Xperia. May be we must play with pro mode on3 Xperia to have better results. But for average person point and shoot is the easy way to take pictures. We don't want to spend time to play with pro mode. Iphone does a better job
"Better" is always a personal choice. Some prefer the less dynamic and more natural shots Sony produces. I've played with manual and program modes, and I could get some dynamic shots but the lighting had to be spot on. I've also seen other photos online from manual mode, and they don't seem to be a lot better to me.
I still think the iphone takes better pictures overall, however the sony def is more true to life, maybe easier to just tweak the contrast, the iphone seems to handle light a bit better too Wouldn't be disappointed with either of these cameras though
Colors are more natural on Sony and I like that the day photos doesn't have that yellow tint that IPhone has but take the sun out from Sony and it will struggle like a 2015 phone. Even a 300 dollars device can do better in low light conditions. And for me as an ANDROID user is not only the camera it is also the UI that after a short while of using starts to feel very boring.I think I will go for the one plus 9 pro.
so, everyone is saying the selfiecamera on the xperia 1 ii isn't that good.... is this a problem of the camera itself or can they solve this with a softwareupdate?
Hopefully the pro app is better. Sony had more natural colors and realistic lighting, but their detail is a bit lacking and their portrait mode is not great. Sony makes some of the best hardware money can buy, but their software seems to be lacking.
Hi is there any significant difference between the two? I'm considering buying one of them but cannot decide. Certainly, me living in the EU doesn't make it better as the s20 comes as standard with a shitty Exynos processor.
Main camera I prefer sony Selfie iPhone obviously Videos I don't care about them I can't tell the difference so I give it to iPhone as everyone says Night shots iPhone , I'm curious to see how Sony will perform with an actual night mode
Would be nice to have a night mode, but it already takes a long exposure when it detects a dark scene, so I'm not sure how much more it would improve unless they improve the image processing.
I think sony needs to pump up the contrast and vibrance of its camera a little bit. Colors look better on iphones but still looks natural (unlike huawei or samsung) and i do prefer the warmish colors on the iphone instead of blueish on the 1 ii.
Yup, I thought they both handled lens flare pretty well compared to other phones, but also felt the Zeiss lenses are working to better reduce the flaring on the Xperia.
Certainly, if you prefer more dynamic and eye catching shots straight out the camera iPhone is the better option. Sony's image processing is much more neutral. Although I did manage to get some pretty dynamic shots from the Xperia from the Photo Pro app in P-mode with just a quick bump in the exposure: instagram.com/p/CCfK97ohcsK/
The boundary between the sky and the tree at 2:44 is unnatural. Did this edit the image itself? If not, the iPhone photos are too unnatural and sad ... On the contrary, I learned for the first time that the image of XPERIA is natural. I don't have it until now, but thanks to this video, I decided to buy SONY (^^) Thank you.
Awesome video!!!! I was so excited for this! The Sony is TERRIBLE overall, I'm so disappointed 😞 Did you remember to turn HDR on the Xperia for both pictures and videos? Because OH BOY this is bad. I mean, dynamic range has always been terrible on Sony phones, but I was hoping they would've improved by now 😞

By the way...I'm actually an Xperia person to heart. The style, interface and build do it for me. These comparisons, though... make it hard for me to choose my next flagship. Maybe both.
Lol, they are definitely putting in effort to their Pro apps. Just clearly don't care about their stock camera app and point-and-shoot features like portrait mode, night mode, etc.
Why would you compare the best pictures the iPhone12 pro can take to the worst pictures the Xperia can take? Heck the Program mode in the pro camera app is point and shoot but is 300% better than just the point and shoot app. What is wrong with you reviewers? I guess its all about iPhone huh?

@@GrantLikesTech I did watch it and even rewound it..but missed the part about auto mode in pro camera...This camera is easy to get good shots out of by either using manual mode putting in your settings and saving them..for lets say street photography. Then you just turn the app on select the name of the settings and you are off and running..point and shoot mode.
@@baronofgreymatter14 Pretty sure you can save custom WB settings only, which is good for controlled lighting like an indoor studio. I've use program mode in previous low light video tests, and it can help but not always better. Personally, I thought even auto Photo Pro day shots looked better than the iPhone, which I feel Apple is continuing to overdue sharpening, colors, and brightness.
In the dynamic range, no phone in the world can reach the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 12. It was better in recording Sony video recording. In shooting white images, you have to manually reduce the brightness of the camera in Sony camera settings so that Sony images and details Shooting white objects is great

That's their image processing, which is very neutral and that's mostly how each of the scenes looked in person. Apple's image processing is very aggressive by pushing up brightness, sharpness and colors. So, it'll just depend on which approach you prefer.

I think sony needs to pump up the contrast and vibrance of its camera a little bit. Colors look better on iphones but still looks natural (unlike huawei or samsung) and i do prefer the warmish colors on the iphone instead of blueish on the 1 ii.
Yup, will come down to what you prefer to see. Usually clearly one or the other given how different each are.
Sony-monster ditel...
Less lens flare at night time on the Xperia 1 II look at 13:25. Also better color accuracy.
Yup, I thought they both handled lens flare pretty well compared to other phones, but also felt the Zeiss lenses are working to better reduce the flaring on the Xperia.
Sony has developed new camera's technology but it did not equale with the software. So Lately the pictures where Sony captured was not good.
Nope, they're definitely not going for the over processed computational photography approach.
I find it odd sony boasted the xperia xz2 premium being the night king. But now they taken it away
Just basic long exposure, but not enough investment in true computational photography for a dedicated night mode.
have u tried gcam with the phone?
Not sure if Gcam works with Sony phones
Ip camera : picture auto photoshop
Sony camera : with real picture,u edited after

It's so clear that Sony is the best
Cool
Wow, iphone dynamic range is way more better than sony , i feel like iphone has more Dynamic Range and i like it, iphone 12 pro Beats Sony xperia
Certainly, if you prefer more dynamic and eye catching shots straight out the camera iPhone is the better option. Sony's image processing is much more neutral. Although I did manage to get some pretty dynamic shots from the Xperia from the Photo Pro app in P-mode with just a quick bump in the exposure:

Iphone 12 pro is far better than sony in almost every single time.. no comparison, iphone is clearly winner.
Fair enough, most will prefer one or the other depending on how they like their images. Appreciate the comment.
are you aware that both are on automode? a true photograph understand this things, go back to take auto procces pics with your iphone.
@@javierjimenez3627 Every smarphone need better point and shoot experience.. Manual mode is not important in smarphone.

If they improve video camera at par with iPhone I will buy Sony
I never seen a new XPERIA after 2016.Because i am an Indian.
That's too bad. Global distribution and availability is tough since we don't get some of the great phones you do either.
@@GrantLikesTech ,Watching on 2012 SONY XPERIA-E [android-4.1,jellybean].
Great job dear. Sony is Monsrer
It certainly can be
The winner is post edit software... hahaha
Undefeated
Iphone shows what the phone and you want but sony shows what it is
Great and simple way to explain it. Might need to steal that one. 😉
That's really the iPhone image processing. Hope you enjoy the new phone!
More realistic and natural is Sony not edited output of photos, while iphone looks great but not so realistic and natural looking looks like edited,,
Xperia is better as it's more natural . Iphone is not bad too....
Awesome video!!!! I was so excited for this!
The Sony is TERRIBLE overall, I'm so disappointed 😞
Did you remember to turn HDR on the Xperia for both pictures and videos? Because OH BOY this is bad. I mean, dynamic range has always been terrible on Sony phones, but I was hoping they would've improved by now 😞
Lol, auto HDR was on.
@@GrantLikesTech that's disappointing :/
Thanks for responding!
IPhone is much better in term of details, HDR, lens correction, skin tone, videos quality, etc.
I'll stil go sony, no matter wat
I like the dedication .
@@GrantLikesTech sony has never disappointed me in any way,
Have used them since the time i knew that they existed,
I understand, I have a soft spot for Sony as I grew up with their electronics (TV, stereo, etc).

Same here,
I remember my first Walkman, tape and radio, iPhone wasn't there, my first mp3 player, iPhone wasn't there,
So for me
IPhone is for the new generation
Who believes in virtual
And me, I'll stick with reality of my time, that's(Sony, Nokia, Samsung and Motorola) coz these served/saved peoples lives
😁😁😁😁
I like sony xperia mark II
Cool
wow..more proof that computational processing (iPhone) beats post-processing (Sony).
By the way...I'm actually an Xperia person to heart. The style, interface and build do it for me. These comparisons, though... make it hard for me to choose my next flagship. Maybe both.
Certainly depends on what you want from a phone camera. Completely opposite approaches to image processing.
Which one is real you? Your face look so red in iphone but look white in xperia.😂
Lol, probably somewhere in between.
Sony should work on camera software
Lol, they are definitely putting in effort to their Pro apps. Just clearly don't care about their stock camera app and point-and-shoot features like portrait mode, night mode, etc.
iPhone ❤️❤️
I want Sony’s camera on the iPhone
Sadly will probably never happen. Although apps like Filmic give you more control if that's what you're after on the iPhone.
Why would you compare the best pictures the iPhone12 pro can take to the worst pictures the Xperia can take? Heck the Program mode in the pro camera app is point and shoot but is 300% better than just the point and shoot app. What is wrong with you reviewers? I guess its all about iPhone huh?
Lol, normally I'd say thanks for watching, but you clearly haven't nor other videos on this channel, which is fine. Just don't leave ignorant comments like this.
Not much else worth responding to here other than saying I guess I'll see you in Jerome's streams. 👋👋👋
@@GrantLikesTech I think you can select iso and shutter speed white balance focus and save them to custom name
In the dynamic range, no phone in the world can reach the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 12. It was better in recording Sony video recording. In shooting white images, you have to manually reduce the brightness of the camera in Sony camera settings so that Sony images and details Shooting white objects is great
And I think the iPhone is almost everywhere worse. and the detail.. But the dynamic range is better. but the sonic was really surprising... realistically transmitting
Iphone is worst ? Lol.. sony is worst
Definitely depends what you like as they take opposite approaches to how they process the images. Most will clearly like one or the other. Thanks for watching!
Lol, definitely depends what you prefer to see. Not surprising people clearly like one or the other as I feel that take opposite approaches to their image processing.
Sony had way more superior colours. iPhone had great hdr
The Sony also has a 3.5mm jack.
Yes it does
How are people choosing the xperia??
Iphone has more sharpness and much better hdr in daylight shots.
The video is better in every way and night shooting is a no contest 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Lol, everyone has their own opinion and preference. That's what makes these so fun and interesting.
Do a blind camera test
Maybe, I've thought about it so we'll see. Appreciate the suggestion.
I chose Sony...
Even though I'm still using the xz premium.. Apple devices are just overrated
Yup, if you don't like over processed images, then makes sense you wouldn't prefer the iPhone.
Just got Xperia 1 mk 2 from xz premium. My xz premium was an awesome phone ahead of its time mate. A well respected phone with a screen well ahead of all the competitors, 800+ ppi.
Sony
Take is of plastic protection from Xperia 1 II camera.Photos are much better. 😀
Sony❤️
Why is Sony's pictures looks so dark? If they are brighter like the iPhones, they will look the best.
That's their image processing, which is very neutral and that's mostly how each of the scenes looked in person. Apple's image processing is very aggressive by pushing up brightness, sharpness and colors. So, it'll just depend on which approach you prefer.
Iphone 12 pro wins for not using the camera pro
