Can I see the Northern Lights in Washington tonight?

- A severe geomagnetic storm on Friday night could make the Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, visible in Washington skies, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Forecast Center.
But, it depends on the time.
The aurora borealis is a colorful glow in the sky produced when electrons trapped in the Earth’s magnetic field are accelerated by the solar wind and collide with atoms in the atmosphere in a ring centered on the magnetic pole of Earth, according to NOAA.

Oh I hope I can see it.
It was awesome show, from around 1am to 3am. The green color was hard to see with the naked eye it was like a white instead but the aurora was clearly visible, awesome patterns all across the sky, the RED colors however were totally 100% visible with the naked eye absolutely stunning pictures I was able to take. The twirling lines dancing, fast moving patterns mind melting stuff and right from the back yard, what a night.
i saw it IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD tonight, it is actually life changing. it looks like wind shooting across the sky, sometimes like the sky is ablaze with flickering celestial flame, it dances like lightning and shines like god rays. it also looks like the sun is rising from the wrong direction (north) -- my area got a low level version but it's still visible to the naked eye. i was so in awe that i felt like fainting multiple times

I was lucky enough to be able to photograph them. All the way in Astoria Oregon. So amazing. Hope you all get a chance to enjoy this.

The northeastern cloud cover hampered my search for the northern lights. I live in New Jersey.
How come the lights aren't off on Seattle during A G4 Solar Storm?
Why would the lights be off? It affdcts EM waves, not power.

The storms do not disturb the atmosphere. They disturb the Earths magnetic field.
I saw it but it had no colors, it was barely visible in spokane
O good. SoI didn't miss anything special. I bet it was clear up at spirit lake. It was super clear down In Arkansas. My family got great pics down there last night.
My brother took some amazing shots near his place. Around 10:00 lots of green and pink.

They didn't say it was "disturbing" in a negative way, like how your comment is disturbing. They said "disturbance" in a scientific sense like throwing a rock into a pond disturbes the water.
