I met him once at a soul food restaurant in Inglewood, CA with his entourage. Very down to earth! He shook hands with us and thanked us for our compliments. I thanked him for his contributions to music. Wonderful guy!
According to him, Lil Richard was one of the architects of rock and roll, but there were artists before him like Mama Thorton, Chuck Berry, and a singer that Lil Richard was influenced. Rock and Roll's architect was the black artist that began in the church and created blues.

I’ve noticed when discussing Little Richard, people never mentioned he became a born again Christian towards the later years of his life. It’s very easy to find here on UA-cam. I haven’t seen the documentary, but if that wasn’t included, they failed. If you’re going to tell someone’s life story, you can’t leave out an important detail like that.
@BlackCherokee When U are raised and brainwashed by churches at an early age its difficult to break free! If you study religion the concept of “hell” was invented….to make people afraid to question religion.
Because he did it several time in his life. First time publically in the early 80's. He was going back and forth. First time he said "im not gay anymore" in the 80's on Letterman then few years later he backed up and said im gay again for 35 years, just to devout again at the end of his life. The truth is he was always Christian from the beggining it's just that his gayness and his faith clashed and could never make peace with himself til the end of his life.
I met Little Richard in 1976 as a Singing Evangelist. Yes he had his issues with that lifestyle. He retuned to his faith and anyone wishing to know about him should go to 3ABN and seek for little Richard's final presentation when he returned to serving God. May he rest in peace until the first resssurrection.

I use to see him every week, at a Seven-day Adventist church/ tent, in Compton California: in the late 70s. He would drive up from Riverside Ca, where he lived with his mother. He was going through his Christian phase, before his comeback in the 80s. He became good friends with my older sister. He was always nice and down to earth.
I met Little Richard once on Hollywood Blvd in the eighties. He wire all white. I've always felt he was disrespected because he was Black and Gay. Liberace was popular at the same time and was never treated so shabbily.
Legends die before having a proper story told about their lives and it leads to others researching a doing it their own way and that's the sad part. I'm looking forward to this documentary, but a big screen, big production movie needs to be made about the creator, innovator, emancipator and architect of rock n roll Richard "Little Richard" Penniman. The movie made for TV starring Leon was OK, but his story deserves to be told bigger and better and bolder because that was Little Richard. ❤
I really hope they don’t push the gay lifestyle in this documentary he’s sooo much more than that. When she said he was an apologetic about his life I knew where this was going. On the contrary he was apologetic he repented to the Lord and to the world he’s said it live in interviews. He had a book “The life n times of lil Richard” I wonder how close it will be to this book that he actually signed off on. Now did he sign off on this doc. Or is this an opportunity to use his former lifestyle of which he repented of for an agenda?
We don't need to see a documentary about Mr. Richard Penniman he's no longer here with us we don't want to hear no B.S & lies and making up stories about Little Richard he's no longer here to tell the full story of his life plus Mr. Penniman say that Leon did a fantastic job in the movie & he did played his ass off BOOM!!!😄😄😄
Wow I can't believe it I've loved this guy forever can't wait to see this because he was so awesome as an entertainer and person little Richard forever
I met Little Richard when I was at the main post office in Hollywood, picking up my mail. As I was going out the front door to exit, I saw him walking up the steps, with his limo parked behind him. I remember saying, “Hi Little Richard”. He said hello and he was friendly. His mother had a house on Virginia Road in the Lafayette Square part of Los Angeles, where he stayed with her and his sister Leva when he was studying to be a minister. My mom was friends with Leva, and they went to Mount Vernon Jr. High School together. My mom often went to their house, but she never saw him, because Leva said that Little Richard was there in his bedroom with the door closed, studying. About 4 years ago, a neighbor here in Lafayette Square reported that she saw him walking around the neighborhood.
I met Little Richard and some of his crew in 1999. They came into a coffee shop I was working at and he took a liking to me. His entourage came back a few minutes after they left and said Little Richard wanted me to have tickets to his show, and they were stage-side seats. So I invited a friend and we HAD A BLAST at that show at the Bite of Portland. Little Richard came over and gave me a hug and thanked me for coming and bringing a friend (who I think Little Richard thought was cute) lol. Great memories! Amazing Show!!!
This is what I want to spend my life doing. I want to tell the stories of the unseen and unheard. This is confirmation of the stories I’ve documented in my office that the world needs to read and see on the big screen.
Grateful to the director for making the documentary. I wish we had an official documentary on Kool and The Gang, and all other black artists who were "different" and lived with secrets. We have nothing but Love and respect for living in such times ❤
Most exciting doc to come along in awhile about the artist who was the first rock and roller to explode on a cosmic level. I think he's the first real "heavy artist" of all time. I met a guy in Las Vegas at the New York, New York hotel in the sliced pizza restaurant, when I was in town for the Prepaid Legal convention. Well, this guy noticed that I was in a suit, and we struck up a conversation. He told me that he was seeking legal help because Little Richard was his father, and that the church had kept him and his dad away from each other his whole life. I cannot remember this guy’s name. Anyway, the point is, the church had a big influence on Little Richard, and it wasn’t all good!
I am trying to figure out why so many don't think he got the recognition he deserved? I grew up in the 60's and 70's. He was always on TV during this time. He was on talk shows and variety shows. He was also a big draw in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel. He was always introduced as one of the founders or fathers of Rock and roll. Or as the architect of Rock and Roll, or even the Quasar of Rock and Roll. He was front and center during the whole 50's rock and roll revival in the early 70's, usually headlining the big revival festivals and concerts. In the late 70's he disappeared for a little while during another one of his religious revivals but he came roaring back in the mid 80's and he was everywhere again , doing talk shows, awards shows, variety shows and his contributions to the founding and creating of Rock and Roll was always mentioned. He was even doing movies and making new records, doing duets with then current big music stars. So how was he not acknowledged and forgotten about? As a Little Richard fan, I'm looking forward to this movie but it's not like nobody knew who he was for the last 60 years.
i started to recognize his music couple of yrs ago the bassline in lucille is frickin awesome the piano playing in great gosh o mighty john Fogerty of creedence clearwater revival doing good golly miss molly these also are what ppl missed rip little richard u were a legend man xox 😊❤💐🎵🎶🎤🎹🎼🎷
Leon Robinson played little Richard and Jennifer Lewis played his mother the movie was directed by Robert Townsend. I don't know what she's talking about. She didn't know anything about him. 🤣 and Leon talked about how he paid homage to him when he came on set. Little Richard said that movie told the true story about his life. That lady obviously didn't do a extensive research.
Little Richard fats dionno chuck berry are the grandfather's of rock n roll. I was raised on all these legends Sam Cooke ray Charles. That's why I'm on here I love little Richard. When you get a chance would you watch Elvis and the black community. Stay well and groovy my friend. TX
I do remember reading a Little Richard Biography 30yrs ago and watching a movie about his life....He has always been under rated as the creator of modern music.
Tell the whole story that right before he died .Little Richard was on TBN and he said that He gave life over to JESUS CHRIST that's why we celebrate him. He said none of all that mattererd but JESUS and that he loved him with all his heart.
Considering his contribution musically alone, his stage performance, his top 10 hits the number of people he influence, all of which became megastars in their own right, it’s criminal, that he was relegated almost to the level of a footnote in rock ‘n’ roll history. He was right to speak out and be his own advocate. Before I understood who he was and what he accomplished, I thought he was just being flamboyant when he mentioned that he was the architect and complaining that he never got a Grammy and deserve one then, when I researched it, I just agreed with him.
I had the pleasure of meeting him many times. He would come into my workplace and I was the one who would help him. Every time he would come in he would walk up to all the other clients and employees and look them in the eye, shake their hands and say hello.
Little Richard was the blueprint of everything Laverne cox billy Porter and RuPaul and TS Madison does in entertainment spaces today as queer people of color
I'll make it quick for you. Born in poverty in a Christian home, struggled with homosexuality, became famous, got into drug excess, gave his life to Jesus, was born-again, renounced homosexuality, drugs and his past life of sin. Decided he wanted Jesus more than anything else. Went to Heaven, currently lives in heaven.
I love Little Richard TOO MUCH!! He brought joy to so many lives. He freed A LOT OF PEOPLE!! Legend. He was born being who he is and there isn't anything wrong with it. He was STILL an LGBTQ ICON!!! He suffered terrible abuse from his father for being queer. Don't respond to me with religious stuff because I don't want to hear it. He wasn't made wrong!
I enjoyed the Opportunity to have Worked; with The Legendary Mr. JAMES BROWN; as well as MICHAEL JACKSON. "LITTLE RICHARD" Mr. RICHARD PENNIMAN HIMSELF ALREADY TOLD His Story HIMSELF. He said He was SAVED, BORN AGAIN, SERVANT of JESUS CHRIST. THAT is How He said, He Hoped to be Remembered. May His Soul Rest In Peace.🙏🏼👑❤️🕊

Little Richard remains the true Architect of Rock & Roll.
According to him, Lil Richard was one of the architects of rock and roll, but there were artists before him like Mama Thorton, Chuck Berry, and a singer that Lil Richard was influenced. Rock and Roll's architect was the black artist that began in the church and created blues.

They made a movie about his life that BET use to show. Leon played Little Richard
I'm 53 and always wondered why he didn't get the recognition that he deserved, he was way ahead of his time but damn it's Little Richard!
I’m 54 and little was not our generation. Our generation was the 80s. Come on be real. That’s our parents generation.
Tamron Hall is beautiful!!!That hairstyle is immaculate!!!

I used to live in Indian Hills,CA on a golf course around the corner from Little Richard’s mother in the late 70’s
I liked that movie too but there is nothing like an actual documentary to learn about someone’s real life! 🎥🎞🎬
TAMRON Is Sooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You can tell Prince emulated himself after Little Richard..the look, hair, makeup everything..
He really was the king of Rock and Roll. And they knew it. But we know how it goes already! Long live the King!
Little Richard fats dionno chuck berry are the grandfather's of rock n roll. I was raised on all these legends Sam Cooke ray Charles. That's why I'm on here I love little Richard. When you get a chance would you watch Elvis and the black community. Stay well and groovy my friend. TX
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE DO A DOCUMENTARY ON LUTHER VANDROSS TOO? WE MUST NOT FORGET OUR ICONS!
I do remember reading a Little Richard Biography 30yrs ago and watching a movie about his life....He has always been under rated as the creator of modern music.
He was the King of Rock and Roll!
The true king of rock and roll.
I’ma tell my kids this was the architect of rock and roll. 😌
Tell the whole story that right before he died .Little Richard was on TBN and he said that He gave life over to JESUS CHRIST that's why we celebrate him. He said none of all that mattererd but JESUS and that he loved him with all his heart.
the true king of r & roll he said hello to me as he came onstage & i was near the piano
I cannot wait for this! Long overdue.
I cannot wait to see it!
I had the pleasure of meeting him many times. He would come into my workplace and I was the one who would help him. Every time he would come in he would walk up to all the other clients and employees and look them in the eye, shake their hands and say hello.
The KING OF ROCK N ROLL= LIL RICHARD 👑 ⭐️ 🎹 🎤
Love Little Richard fan for life🔥🔥🔥
NBC did make a movie about his life ! There are interviews where he talks about turning from his gay lifestyle and following the Lord .
💜💜💜
he was AMAZING
Little Richard was the blueprint of everything Laverne cox billy Porter and RuPaul and TS Madison does in entertainment spaces today as queer people of color
not just that Rock n Roll!!! Something even bigger....
did you just mention Little RIchard and RuPaul in the same sentence ? are you for real?
Why does that bother you
@@CoolGobyFishexactly we’re then comparing just plain gay vs talent career
Little Richard got his flowers from The Universe ' He literally lived twice as long as Elvis! So there is that!! He was pretty and he knew it.
He definitely deserves his flowers 🤩😘😁
Rest n Heaven Rock n roll architect little Richard
I love Little Richard TOO MUCH!! He brought joy to so many lives. He freed A LOT OF PEOPLE!! Legend. He was born being who he is and there isn't anything wrong with it. He was STILL an LGBTQ ICON!!! He suffered terrible abuse from his father for being queer. Don't respond to me with religious stuff because I don't want to hear it. He wasn't made wrong!
Richard wasn't first & he just lived to be recognized but many things he said. I believe.
