@Nick - if you soak the laces in slow curing resin under vacuum for a while, won't it get rid of most of the air bubbles issues you are having? I understand that it is much messier to then continue with the project like you do. Just thought it might help with the air problems in the pressure pot?

I was looking at the bottom of the bowl and I got a flash of an idea. It kinda reminded me of a bowling ball. It would be kinda cool to have you actually MAKE a resin bowling ball. Maybe even a clear one with a skull in it like in Mystery Men.
I just read this comment to my husband and he went it one better. An LED light inside that makes the eyes glow red whenever the ball moves. It could even be the kind that motion CHARGES the battery, kinda like a self winding watch. That way it could be permanently encased in resin, but never run out of power.

What if, instead of "another bowl" (you seem to be getting bored of making everything into a bowl), you made a lampshade out of the bowl shape....I think the light projecting through some of your projects would highlight the trapped articles included in the resin nicely.

If you want to do blanks to reduce resin waste, which I would recommend. In this case, try using another, smaller bowl. If it floats, weight it a bit. If it sinks to the bottom, just remove some weight.
You'll save time turning it, and save money not using as much resin.

Nick, I just LOVE your channel!! You're so cheeky and fun! Please don't let the "waffle" haters give you a moments pause! I was reading some of the comments, and I thought that the lamp shade idea was pretty cool!! I really love it when you light your projects; they are so pretty and the light really brings out the finer details of the piece. Hint, hint... 😁 Anyway, thank you so much for all the beautiful art and fun along the way!

Nick, ever since "Ferris Bueller" I tend to watch videos til the end. You never know what goodies are hidden there. And I will confess...as I was watching this video, and I have watched your videos for several months, I noticed that in the lower left it said "subscribe"...not "subscribed". Holy Mole...I was never subscribed to you!! I fixed that mistake immediately. So now you are 1 sub closer to 1 million.

I've watched other turning channels/videos here on UA-cam with people that create projects with epoxy resin mixed with wood and other types of materials. One thing that seems to help those people get the bubbles out of their epoxy resin, especially when mixing cloth materials in epoxy resin that they specifically intend to turn on a lathe, is when they employ the use of a vacuum chamber. Doing so, at least in the videos I've viewed, has helped the cloth materials soak up ALL the epoxy resin, and takes out ALL the bubbles/dry bits of cloth. When I've seen them do so, that COMPLETELY solved the problem that you're running into, having to seal up the bubbles that are left in the empty spaces of the epoxy resin, as well as there still being some dry bits of cloth in the middle of the project. Maybe next time you should consider popping cloth material mixed with epoxy resin into a vacuum chamber BEFORE popping it into a pressure pot. From the videos I've viewed, that seems to do the trick. Just food for thought.

Gorgeous! I was a bit confused about the “black” resin in the beginning, then the black was gone, with clear areas and beautiful blue around the top (blue shoelace). Somebody suggested a lamp shade! Now there’s a brilliant idea!! Loved every minute of your waffling, by the way. Never fails to make me smile or even laugh out loud! ❤️😂❤️

Your content is like a cool drink of water (for my soul) on a hot day and I appreciate what you do! Don't be disheartened! You'll get to 1m subs! UA-cam's algorithm isn't real nice to creators and favors content farms and doesn't always pop the real stuff to the top. But know that you're loved and your content is enjoyed. Stay safe and stay funky! We'll still be here when you hit your million mark and beyond!

OK, projects done. Very cool bowl! I didn't expect the pseudo stained glass effect from it that you got. Yep, got all the waffles and dad jokes we've come to love from ya. Sorry I'll miss out on the contest, no Insta or FB for me, broke the habit 3 years ago. Oh well. Tell ya what, you keep making, and we'll all keep watching. Cheers to Charlie, hope to see something from him when he has the time.

Holy moly Nick! I must say, I wasn't entirely sure that this was gonna work because of the elasticity, albeit minor, of the shoelaces versus what I'm guessing was 100% cotton in the hankies which makes them virtually un-stretchable. I wondered if the minimal elasticity would somehow grab hold of the bowl while it was on the lathe and catapult you across the shop. Disaster pants fer sher! Clearly, thankfully, I was wrong and you were right... which is why you do this for a living and I do not. Love you and still watching in the southern California desert, MK ❤😁🏜
