  • In this entertainment video, I add 3/8 quick connect fittings and adapters in order to connect our Weber grill to our house propane supply (400 gallon tank) while keeping the ability to still use gas bottles such as the smaller 20lb propane tanks.

    Thank you! I just did the same conversion on my Weber grill to run off our 500 gallon home propane tank. Using your video and parts list as a go-by, and it was very quick and easy. I first had a plumber install a valve on the gas line stub at the back of the house (I couldn't do that myself per local code), to which I simply added a quick connect using a 1/2" NPT to 3/8" NPT adapter to complete the little project. Works great!

    I have the same set up of a large propane tank. I think you’ll find that you cook more evenly because you never lose pressure coming from the much larger tank great way to cook.

    I would install a mechanical inline SHUTOFF TIMER to the grill side of the adapter. That can prevent forgetting to turn the grill off and running your tank out of gas, especially the 500-gallon one, not to mention a possible safety hazard. The timer can be set for up to an hour, or bypassed by turning to ON. Amazon has them.

    Hello I have a gas grill just like yours but hate changing propane tanks. I have a new house with a gas line stub in the backyard with an on off valve. Can I just get a 5ft line from the house to the grill to run off of the house gas?

    I have a question regarding regulator. To get the gas from the portable propane tank to the gas grill, it needs a regulator. However, running the gas from house propane supply to the grill does not need any regulator?

      The regulator is literally the first thing he shows in the video.

    I have a similar setup and grill. I have propane hookup from the house that is after the 1psi regulator. So only getting 1psi to grill. Flame is half what it should be and takes longer to heat up. Would using Nat gas orifices, which are twice the diameter, fix this? I feel like my only option is to run a line from before the 1psi regulator, which I am trying to avoid. Would appreciate any suggestions.

      Always call a pro when working with gas, that;'s the best advice I offer. They can figure out WC and pressure for you.

    Why are you using a natural gas hose (grey) for propane? That's a huge no-no.

    Did you make a prior video on how you changed the fittings on your propane pipes coming out of the house? We are converting our outdoor cookers to our house propane, but we aren't sure what fittings we need coming out of the house. We are actually doing a duel cooker hookup to cook maple syrup, so we need to have a double connection. Your video is informative

    Would you provide the list of hoses, fittings, etc? Great video, but it's tough to write things down. I need to run my house propane (already stubbed off) to my grill and need to know what hoses and fittings I need.
    Thanks for taking the time to record this!

    Doesn't the quick connect swivel? Is the double female swivel really needed?

    • @GreenMountainDIYGuy
      @GreenMountainDIYGuy  4 роки тому +1

      The female end of the quick connect does not swivel. Thinking of all of those fittings makes my head swivel!

    • @theLutheran1
      @theLutheran1 3 роки тому +1

      I don’t understand why the swivel is being used. It seems to add about 4-inches of unnecessary fittings. idk.

    i have one of those very large "Yard Submarines" propane tanks to power three FAUs in my house as well as the oven and stovetop, and gas dryer. I know of no other regulators in my house. I do not have a small regulator like you showed at your house connection where you had your disconnect "T"s. I have one large regulator right at the giant "Submarine" propane tank that feeds my entire house. I want to run my BBQ as you did and my generator. I am confused as to where to put a pressure regulator(s). Can you please explain your gas system so I know where to put what type of regulator? Thank you.

  • @carolgarrett7708
    @carolgarrett7708 4 роки тому

    When connecting to a large propane tank with regulator and stubbed in connection for the grill, is there a need for another pressure regulator if the large tank has one? Large tank feeds the gas logs inside and the grill outside.

    • @GreenMountainDIYGuy
      @GreenMountainDIYGuy  4 роки тому

      Probably not but I would recommend you consult a professional. My setup is 500 gallon tank with a regulator (on it) to another regulator before the propane enters the house. We placed the "T" just after the second regulator. I do not believe I need any further regulators but the equipment already has them installed on the Tri-fuel kit (on my generator) as well as the Weber Grill. Thanks for watching.

    I'd explain what ones do get the propane rated sealant or tape ie not the flare as that can very easily cause a leak damage things are very temperamental to also tight ingest to much ,every video I see never really addresses these small but very important details and folks just learning waste alot of time and anxiety just because they taped a flare wrong (not really supposed to at all) or tighten flare too much or another common mistake not realizing the female fitting is not Npt but a flare receiver and it's doable with sealant in a pinch but it's incorrect. But good ideas I've wanted to do this but was aprihensive about quick connects with gas. But he'll I don't hear a bunch of bombs going off at the camper park so f it. Let's do this. 🎉

      Taping a flare will guarantee a gas leak, Boom.

    The only issue with the video is I wanted to see how it connects to the house part, not the BBQ part Too bad.

    • @GreenMountainDIYGuy
      @GreenMountainDIYGuy  4 роки тому +1

      There is a quick connect female fitting shown at 20 second on the house. You plug the male hose from the grill into there. Check out this video, it has more detail on the house propane connection. You can see me plugging in a generator but the connections are same regardless if it is a generator or grill. Hope that helps.ua-cam.com/video/RGQyM8vx5io/v-deo.html
