    This reminds me of stories from before the 1900's. It was said the vikings didn't need boats to invade England because you just had to wait for the cod to spawn, and you could walk across the North Sea. Video like this, makes me think they were not exaggerating.

    Once I see the yellow tails of Bunker in the water, with or without predators, I get so hyped. Even when you snag them, they fight really good!

    Years ago, in the summer months you had schools like this all the way into Canada. Your lucky if you see a small school as far North as Gloucester Ma....today! You only need a few Blues or Stripers under the Pogys to drive them to the surface like that. Their instinct to school-up and survive are like no other fish. I love Menhaden -- find a school of these guys and your almost guaranteed to catch something.

    That's allot of damn bunker! It's hard to imagine that this is the way it used to be back in the 60's. And here we are again with the school of bunker, baitfish, so enormous that the blusfish are going bananas.
    There are videos like this in Florida with the mullet run this last autumn! I love to fish when the baitfish are so abundant. It lends itself to getting the best catches of sportfish and eating fish, whether bluefish or other species.

    The bait fish are not being attacked by large blues, they are dying from a red-tide plankton bloom that is cutting off oxygen to the fish. Note that the fish are attempting to swim on their sides to at least expose one set of gills to surface air. Shortly they will all wash up on the shore.

    A bluefish I had speared free diving attached itself to my bicep like a bull dog. Had to have a friend cut it's body in two next to it's head with a fillet knife leaning over the transom while I pushed it into my arm and held my arm out. If I tried to pull it away it would clamp down harder. 15 stitches and a bloody mess. Texas GOM

    The current has pushed them up far enough so that their swim bladder's have expanded too much, the buoyancy is greater than the force needed to get back to the bottom, they float around until the gas is released.

    • @armangdejong7826
      @armangdejong7826 6 років тому

      More possble than what they say about lack of oxygen. I don't know f they ever can lose enough gas to survive this .
