for anyone getting the skse isnt running problem you need to run skse loader as an administratior
I must have left that out, I know I put it in the Mantella GPT guide. Always make a SKSE shortcut and set it to run as admin.
i cant do it, when i try this a message pops saying it couldnt find the skyrim vr exe
Copy the SKSEVR file that's in your skyrim install folder and run ad administrator. If there isn't one there you haven't installed SKSEVR correctly

ran it as admin and when i go into the game it says the skse is not running so skyui will not work correctly

Thanks man 🫶. Vortex Is the mod manager. Head to Nexus and choose Skyrim SE (for VR).
Once there you can filter it to best mods of all time. There's a drop down bar for types of mods or keywords. Weapons/qol/armour etc.
I recomend calthenthes beautiful bodies. Its nfsw but it makes all the NPCs look a bit less 2013. Good luck

I keep getting an error saying skyui isn’t running because the script extensor isn’t running but I fallowed the video to the letter?..any suggestions?
So is the vr version and all these awesome mods just to mess around or can you actually play the entire game fighting dragons and such with these enabled? I've only ever seen videos with people in riverwood screwing around, not actually out and about.
Skyrim VR is the full Skyrim game just absolutely terribly made for VR. We add mods to give us bodies and to be able to pick up and move things. You can complete the whole game as it is but it's terrible without the mods in this video.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have a question. I have a very janky mod setup and I want to use this as a base. Can I simply create a new profile for vortex and then move my skyrimvr directory to a different location, or are there more steps to switching. I spent 12 hours on the old setup and it's nice but it's a dead end. I don't want to lose it but I want it to be plan b.
If you go from vortex to options > mods > you can create a different mods folder and mods staging folder. That should in theory allow you to use different mods outside of your janky setup but I've never tested it!
It seems a easier tutorial, will try it. Do we need to have more than one drive to run the game with mods? Saw this in some other tutorials with wabba thing.
I've gotten flack from people asking why I'm teaching vortex and I'm doing so because it's easy and it's a starting point. Wabbajack is good but you've got to learn the fundamentals of VR modding first!

@@DeadPixelGaming Yeah I totally agree re Wabbajack. I installed Panda's Imersive SkyrimVR Experience and after about 5minutes it gets to a black screen with the Skyrim icon and never loads. This Mod has about 1000+ mods and yeah I'm no coder and have no idea how to sort through the conflicts.
And I'd you get conflicts with mods and bugs you can just remove them individually. Simples!
Vortex says that Im missing or cant write ini files. Already played the start of the game, saved just after the character creation.
After the third reopening and closing of the vortex, the message disspeared and everything went fine following the installarion. Great mod! Thank you.

I'd highly recommend the Quest 3. If its out of your budget the Quest 2 isn't bad but the Quest 3 is much more comfortable and the pancake lenses are great

I followed the guide precisely, step for step, but VRIK will not work and my character is still a pair of floating hands. I haven't even tried installing anything else because if I can't even install VRIK then what's the point

I have yes, I've been trying to mod it but it's a serious bit of work... there are so many mods to run as well as two background apps and a subscription to GPT API. I've been trying but it's not been working for me.

What kind kf gpu do you need to have a decent experience with this? Is a 1080 ti way too old?
If you can play this already without these mods then you should be fine. I don't know how VR ready a 1080ti is but the mods I recommend in this guide arena graphical, they add a body. They will put extra stress on your CPU as HIGGS and PLANCK use calculations. But it shouldn't be by much really.
I have not been able to get this to work so far. Followed along step by step everything on my vortex mod page looks exactly like yours. But when I launch the game the mods aren't working. I've tried purging and re-deploying them. I fully uninstalled everything and started over from the top and still nothing. No clue what i'm doing wrong, or what i missed. If you have any suggestions of what else I could try i'd sure appreciate it. I was really looking forward to playing this. I've played it on PSVR but I finally have a PCVR headset and would love to play it modded. After so many play-throughs, playing it vanilla just isn't as fun anymore.
Same! For me it says script extender not running so therefore skyui wont work and i load into the game not able to move only look around stuck in place
@@promermitsu I had the same issue with not being able to move around, found the solution on a reddit post. Skyrim being skyrim its very picky and unlike other games where you can turn on the controllers at any time and no issues. You have to make sure your controllers are turned on prior to launching skyrim, otherwise the game starts with the thumbsticks partially disabled.
The script extender error either means you've installed the wrong script extender (non vr version) or you've not installed it correctly.

Yes after years of making VR tutorials it appears to me that sometimes no matter whether you do it exactly as I have it won't work for some people due to certain other factors on their PC.
This is why I started the video by saying delete your copy, start fresh with no old mods etc. But still seems to be an issue!
@@DeadPixelGaming unfortunately no I'm still having issues with it. It's very strange, it's like it's half way working. The last time I launched the game I noticed that even though I still only had floating hands. When I moved my controller around my in-game wrist would move as if there was infact a full arm, but the arm is not visible.
Also this is a fully fresh install of Skyrim VR, I had not installed it yet or played it either. Could the mods I have for Skyrim SE be somehow interfering? I did notice when I installed the mods on vortex under the Skyrim VR section. It showed a notification that the mods were moved to Skyrim SE, which I thought was a bit odd. Idk never used vortex before, I've always just done my mods manually. Might just try it that way and see if it will work. Hoping I can at least get Planck and higgs to work, havent tried them yet. Been focusing on trying to get vrik to run.
Anyone else trying this on quest 2 controllers? Idk why but it feels like the analog sticks have a mind of their own
Works perfectly fine on both my Quest 2 and 3. Have you tested your Q2 on other games? Hopefully you don't have stick drift?

Are you looking for USSEP? Unofficial Skyrim special edition patch? It fixes most issues when modding. In some cases depending on the mod (for example Mantella mod) you'll need an older version of USSEP.
You set up the mod by dropping it into the mods window as shown in this video

I have a problem where vortex keeps giving me a warning that skse isn't installed. I tried looking it up vut all posts I've found about it have become obsolete because they're too old.
SKSE needs to be installed in the directory your games exe is in. So make sure that's happening. The obsolete posts you're likely reading are regarding Fallout 4s script extender which became obsolete after the last patch.
Reinstall SKSE and check your game folder make sure its there make the shortcut of SKSE and move the SHORTCUT not the SKSE itself.

Hey! I followed your instructions to a tee, no problems installing anything. No errors, but the mods aren't working? I can't see my arms or anything. Is there an in game setting I need to turn on?
Strange... disable and then renenable the VRIK mod and load back in. It should in game open a window which let's you configure VRIK. If it doesn't look in options under MCM (mod controls)
Having modded skyrim with a collection years ago, i'm now trying to come back. I've deleted all the mods and I deleted skyrim vr, followed by verifying the files on steam (which i think was my first mistake).
I've then gone back to vortex after getting skyrim to start up and closing. But vortex is throwing all sorts of errors at me and demanding fnis. My mods page also looks different to yours, with me being unable to drag and drop the skse and ui files.
I'm hoping that if i completely remove it from steam and vortex and start again, that i'll be able to follow this guide.
Have I missed something glaring with the removal and restarting process?
Before you remove anything make sure to remove the mods in vortex and click the delete archive button.
Then delete the actual mods folder, uninstall vortex, delete any residual folders and repeat the process for SkyrimVR.
If you can't see the drag and drop area you can't be managing the game. Make sure to manage Skyrim Special edition (for skyrim vr).
Also connecting via nexus is crucial once you've started the install process again.

Also, do not verify files. It takes ages and it will mess with all the mod directories.
If you're still having issues, go to options>mods in vortex and make sure you have a mods folder and mod staging area.
BTW, if you have a decent PC, you can skip all of this and automatically use the MadGods pack. 250gigs of incredible mods through Mo2. Check the video it's on my channel.
Hello! I followed the tutorial hoping it would fix my issue of not being able to use menus/being able to open inventory I’m on a quest 3 and it’s like my Y and B buttons don’t exist when I try to use them I also haven’t ever gone passed the intro area does leaving that area fix it? The game is completely unplayable for me and I just need help:(
I even had installed the mouse menu mod and still no dice it didn’t work either
Hey, try downloading realms of lorkhan. It's an alternative start which will start you as unbinded. This may help

I pick the current VR build script extender, but the SkyUI keeps failing and says it doesn't have the correct script extender.
Are you sure you're managing the correct game in vortex? Also, do you by any chance have flatscreen modded and are playing that too? That can cause conflictions.

Well yes, this is for modding Skyrim VR. So you need Skyrim VR.
i cant run at all. downloaded everything exactly as shown, but when i load in on my safe im stuck in place. i can turn, use both hands in the menu options, but i cant run anywhere.
Download realm of lorkhan as a mod (quick alternative start) and start a new game. It may be because you're loading an old game which didn't have these mods applied before

just says its not installed and working right, both skyUI and the script extender. dont know why it doesnt look like that but I cant install any mods without that. After fully resetting my computer due to isses before. no previous folders and the most current update of skyrim and i did it step by step and it still doesnt work for me

Vortex is saying i renamed the renamed skyrimse.exe even tho i didnt and ive tried unstalling both skyrim vr and the special edition and reinstalling but nothing works and ive tried deleting the mod and adding it back but that doesnt work either a bit confused on how vortex works

If you've never started a new game there are configs that the game hasn't made that it needs to edit

When I click play in the top left I’m in but there are still no mods
You need to run the game through the SKSEVR launcher not through vortex. Vortex can be closed and mods will still work its just there to implement them.
i keep getting the "Plugin depenencies unfulfilled" notification and it says that some of my mods needs the skrip extender, the thing is i already have it downloaded so i don't know what to do. Anyone else have this problem?

Which version do you have? VR/SE or AE? The only reason is there's a (2) is because I've downloaded it 3 times in the past, it won't make a difference when installing

You can uninstall and delete direct from vortex.

Hey, I have an issue, when I run the game it says "[CRITICAL] The higgs esp exists, but is not active. Make sure the esp is enabled in your mod manager"
How do I fix this?
I don't know why but it appears somehow the plugin has disabled. If you look in plugins all the esps will be there. Look for the HIGGS one and enable it.

Do i need to download both sksevr and skyui? Or is it just one? I tried downloading them both, and on my mod page it says that they are missing a file to work. When I go to download that file, it says i need 3 other mods to get it to work. It just seems like an endless trail of downloading mods to get everything to work. It’s not simple like your screen is showing. After downloading both sksevr and skyui vortex pops up saying that there is a unresolved issue
You just need SKSEVR, skyui is highly recommended as it's a dependency for other mods (might be for VRIK or HIGGS I'm not sure).
Go into Vortex, settings, mods and have a look there and make sure your mod staging area is correct.
Make sure your old SKSE from nonvr isn't conflicting either.

You don't need ESL. ESL for all intensive purposes is a script extender like SKSEVR.
Again did you download the right script extender? What errors come up on the right of the screen when opening Vortex? If you follow the guide precisely you won't have this issue. Did you check in settings > mods to make sure that there is a staging area for your mods?
@@DeadPixelGaming i did download the correct one. I triple checked it. I do not remember what the notification in vortex says. So I will try to comment around the time I am actively on my computer.
i want to keep all this organized. could i create a folder and put these files in it without it effecting the install location?
Download the mods, install them in vortex. After that the downloaded files can be deleted from your downloads list. Just make sure they are installed on Vortex.

@DeadPixelGaming either my Quest 3 is a POS or I'm doing something wrong. I downloaded the 3 main mods like you did. When I try to load the game through Vortex it just sits in the SteamVR screen. But if I load it somewhere else and actually get into the game the mods say they will not work correctly. Also my headset just freezes and quits working. Like my AirLink won't work any more
Did you download SKSEVR and put it into vortex? Or the dotnet framework? All the dependencies?
Look at your mod list in vortex it should have sksevr in it.
OK now with Airlink freezing you may need a dedicated wifi6 router. If you're using your home router it will struggle to send data to every device in your house plus skyrim. I made a video on thr perfect VR airlink setup on my channel
ive tried this multiple times and i either get a black screen (can hear audio), or the game doesnt work altogether. Ive downloaded all the EXACT same things as you, deleted everything ect
Man I don't know what to tell you... try deactivating all the mods using vortex, starting a new game until you're free and out the cave (or use alternate start mod) save the game and activate mods again.
Alternatively start steam VR when connected via link first before starting your game.
Can I confirm you're starting it using thr SKSEVR launcher and not the skyrim exe?

Did it work using the play button in vortex? You should be launching from the SKSEVR launcher in game files.

No not at all, you can disable all mods through vortex and play Skyrim as it is.
@@DeadPixelGaming I don’t even have vortex open, so that’s why I don’t understand why it’s doing the black screen with sound playing in the background. I’ve actually never played Skyrim and I wanted my first play in vr but it’s literally unplayable without mods 🤣
@trententhompson1616 vortex doesn't have to be open to run the mods. Look at vortex as a mod installer. Open vortex and disable all the mods. You can play skyrim modded or unmodded with vortex open or closed.

I'm getting a skyui error code 1, it's not running correctly because it says sksevr is not running but I have it installed. I installed it three times and even vortex still says I don't have it too. But it's the same 2_00_12 one so I don't get it. They're also the only two mods I have installed.
Open vortex and drag the compressed 7zip download into the bottom window in the mods section of skyrim

Glad you got it working! You know what I managed to get working today? ChatGPT dialogue (mantella mod). It was really hard to get it working but now I can talk to all NPCs and have full conversations using chatgpts engine. I'm going to try make a video on it but it's such a hectic one!!

Anybody why, when I go to Vortex to select Skyrim VR it isnt there? Ive modded in the past, is there something i did to get rid of it? Its not hidden. I even tried selecting Skyrim Special Edition but Vortex couldnt find it. When I manually showed it where the exe was, I couldnt find it even with a copy and pasted address. I’m having a problem that says the primary tool for Skyrim VR is no longer available quick launch has reverted back to the games executable.
Never heard of this issue. If you've done this from a fresh install this shouldn't be happening.

Did you run as administrator? Did you download and install the correct skse?
At 3:24 I notice there is a pop up saying that Skyrim VR requires a mod to enable ESL support and that you must install it through Vortex to work. Can you explain what that is?
ESL is to do with the plugins to mods. I think this popped up because there were left over plugins from when I'd done this before filming this tutorial.
If you follow the guide you shouldn't have this issue and it you get an ESL error it's usually down to mods or SKSEVR not being correctly installed or run in admin.

Hi, open vortex and look on the left. There should be a plugins button, in that menu should be a higgs esp that needs to be activated.
If that doesn't work delete the mod and reinstall it.

When modding skyrim VR through nexus you need to select the special addition. Special edition counts for the non-vr special edition and for thr VR standard edition.
I got the message when booting up the game saying skse (therefore skyui) is not working. I installed the correct files and launched from mod manager, any ideas?
Hi there, did you make sure to install the correct SKSE? The SKSEVR one? Did you also make sure to install mods from the Skyrim Special edition section in Nexus?

@dashram2035 if you start with a completely clean install this should work, I recorded it as I was doing it. If you look in your skyrim folder there should be an SKSEVR file. Right click it and set it to launch as administrator. Try launch like that and see if it helps.

i'm having trouble even installing vortex, i've clicked the download, installed runtime but i see no choice to install vortex and it is not an immediate pop up, i uninstalled runtime successfully but it also uninstalled express vpn

Yeah uninstalling the run windows for some reason messed with express vpn but im not too bothered about that. I've got as far as playing the game with my own avatar and not just floating hands so all seems well. Although it will not work when i click the game at the top to run it and instead have to go to my dashboard and click a little icon in my toolbar called skyrim script extender vr. Not sure why. Im currently downloading some texture packs to try out, would be nice if it looked better

Did you start skyrim through SKSEVR whilst running it as administrator? If you have and stoll can't get it running you can jump on discord and I'll help you get set up when I'm free
its Asking me for something called FNIS??
FNIS is a dependency of a mod. I'm not sure what mods you've downloaded but none in this tutorial require FNIS.
Follow the guide correctly and it will work. Then download whatever other mods it is you wish to download and if they don't work disable them through Vortex.

dude i need some fucking help! im on the verge of a mental break! i cannot figure this out for the life of me. i press play and it says the skse is not working or running and thus the skyUi will not work. i try to run the loader as admin and it says it cant find skyrimvr.exe. im so fucking lost and idk what to do. i need a step by step walkthrough on discord screen share or something idk. and the thing is ive modded the shit out of fallout 4 not for vr so i understand the concept.

Delete your skyrim skse. Go to the page where you install it from, make sure to get the exact right one (vr) and drag it into the vortex bottom window in the mods section.

I dont know what to suggest! Make sure you're downloading from SE in nexus and make sure you don't have non vr skyrim mods or installs conflicting

Stopped taking it seriously at Vortex. None of what you're showing in this video is the best way to go about moding Skyrim/VR.
If you wish to use Mo2 go ahead, but if you know how to use Mo2 this video obviously isn't for you as you know how to mod. Mo2 is substantially more complicated both in UI and utilisation. Vortex is the simplest easiest way to mod things and this is a tutorial for people starting out on modding games.
And yet as easy as it is to use Vortex over Mo2 I'm still providing support in my Discord 1 one 1 to show people what they're doing wrong despite the tutorial being clear and concise.
