Tried this year's ago, you have to choose because Alduin will always kill you. Alduin didn't come because Ralofs prayers, but because after being thrown forward in time the first thing he detected was the soul of a dragon nearby. But when he gets to Helgen he realised it isn't a normal dovah but a dovahkiin, the Dragonborn, his nemesis, the ultimate Dragon Slayer. Everyone who died in Helgen was massacred because Alduin was hunting for you.
So Alduin really is the ultimate doofus. The dragonborn was on his way to getting killed anyway and he saved him. He saved the only person in the world with the ability to defeat him.
I figured this was the case because during the whole Helgen sequence is seems like Alduin is following you but can't accurately locate you. For example when he breaks through the tower. That's just one example. If you replay this mission you will notice that it seems like Alduin is almost always landing infront or around you.
I remember I ran into Alduin in a random encounter out side of brittle-shin north. He raised the dragon out of the near by burial mound and flew off as it attack me. I was so excited to see that you can actually find him bringing other dragons to life besides Kynesgrove!
I had that happening outside of Whiterun too. Weirdly, the dragon Alduin resurected was named (can't remember its name now though) and never fully formed. He just sat there, as a living skeleton, saying something in dovah'sul. Didnt attack either, he just glared at me. It was super weird.
Yeah, this was acknowledged on tv tropes. Basically, it takes Alduin a min to figure out your the dragon born, and he makes a beeline for you once he does.
my favorite bug that i experienced was alduin breaking the wall and just kinda sitting there staring at me. no fire, no flying away, just breaking the wall to engage in the most intense staring contest in history
The very first time I played Skyrim I had a similar bug where Alduin broke thru the wall, but never moved. He just stayed in the hole, breathing fire that didn’t do damage. I was 12 and had no idea what to do so I didn’t play the game again for another like 6 months
You don't need to be Dragonborn to hear the dragons talk. If you had even the most basic of knowledge about the Elder Scrolls lore, or did *any* research at all, you would see that you can hear what dragons are saying even without being Dragonborn. How else would Paarthurnax have taught the Greybeards? After captured, Odahviing talks directly to the people present. And lastly, you can hear them shout in ESO, and none of the players are Dragonborn. Next time, please do research before making yourself look like an idiot by posting comments like the one above, which implies factually incorrect information.
the game itself makes an Autosave just before the line "who, are you?" [enter Character Customization] check your saves, under "Prisoner" (because thats always your name, until you Change it during Customization) and you should Already be able to skip the cart cutscene
Ok but if you could survive his bite you could technically escape Helgen without choosing. Like he could potentially fling you out of the city. And if you survived you you'd be free without choosing
You can actually get out of Helgen with a bug, if alduin shouts at you, and you glitch through the gate. Sadly the game is bugged, your hand is still tied, and it's completely unplayable
I went camping once in october with some of my family and we were riding in a wooden cart pulled by a tractor to go get some pumpkins and i then looked over at my sister and said “ hey you so you’re finally awake” she was fucking dying laughing
there's a dragon priest mask quest that involves the Thalmor pretending to be either an Imperial or a Stormcloak officer when you arrive, this is determined via whoever you choose to follow. I've seen speedrunners get out of the walls of Helgen by jumping along the wall to the outside on that initial opening after Alduin tries to kill you. I wonder who the Thalmor guy would be as if you went to him in that situation?

@@WitcherGerd that's why I mentioned after Alduin appears, when he bursts through the hall of the tower and you're told to jump through to the destroyed house, you don't do that but jump to the side along the wall until getting to the edge of Helgen and jumping out. Then you've glitched out of the opening tutorial and are out in the world while you've still got your hands bound. Go then to the Dragon Priest quest marker location at Forelhost to see what it'd be or even if it's there. If you do the speedrunner glitch to get unbound you'll be on the imperial side.

I've done pretty much the same test before. The difference I noticed is that if you are not out in the open, Alduin will still make a landing in that same spot, and then he will take off. At that point, the quest marker pops up for Riverwood, instructing you to head there, but the journal tells you that the Jarl of Whiterun needs to be notified.
Fun fact: you can skip the carriage cutscene by going --> load game --> where you will find your different characters/playthroughs and some of them will say prisoner lvl 1. Select this load and you will start the game where you get off the carriage.
This was one of the first things I tried when the game first came out. Alduin used to be a lot more aggressive, too. If he didn't eat you, he'd just burn you to a crisp.
I legitimately did not know you could follow the empire dude! I have been playing this game for years. I have 500 plus hours in it and I have always followed the storm cloak guy
My first playthrough I was a Stormcloak, I chose them because I asked my fiance who the good guys were and he said they were. After that playthrough, I never joined the Stormcloaks again. Mostly because I don't like playing as a Nord and all the Nords are assholes to you if your anything other than a Nord, especially if you are an argonian or khajjit. My fiance doesn't play the Stormcloaks either, because I pitched a fit about them being racist assholes. He had no idea they were so bad.
I wasnt paying attention enough and was already following Hadvar so I ended up following him. I’ve picked Ralof everytime to I can kill the damn Captain who tried executing me 😂
You know you can save your game at the character creation just before you get called up and that saves you ever having to do the carriage cinematic when you want to create a new build 👍
interesting, i tried this and it sent me to whoever i was closest to after a short period, if i was closer to hadvar it'd send me to him, if ralof (mostly the case since hes closer to the arch you walk past) i generally usually always follow imperials, get my smithing up better following hadvar over ralof although ppt say follow ralof for better gear and money, i personally dont see the difference long gfame wise
So for anyone that experiences the bug where he doesnt break the wall just walk down the steps and go back up, usually he just doesnt smash through because you were too quick for the game to set up the checkpoint on the stairs

My friend once got fus to dahed by alduin and got sent under the gates and was outside helgen. Didn’t have his hands so was just wandering for a while before he reset, but we had a great time at that
Y’all know that you could just fast travel to Higan if you press the menu button and then press the unbound quest and then press show on map and then you could fast travel outside of Elgin your hands would be bound, but you could discover some locations to make it easier for later

So you've never seen the objective that says "Follow Hadvar OR Ralof" or heard Hadvar say "With me prisoner"
