  • This video is a look at the lawn one week after dethatching in the middle of a heatwave. My KBG lawn definitely looks much better after dethatching. Dethatching it did not hurt anything and I think it improved the lawn even though I did it during a heatwave when temperatures were well up in the high 90's with heat indexes over 100. I did it because of my concern of disease with having to water so much because of the heatwave. KBG is a thatchy grass anyway and I normally do dethatch in early spring and early fall.

Spot on about KBG in the heat. My Bluebank out front is doing greeat and will show signs it needs water almost daily. I water almost every day myself. Your yard is beautiful and great to see you back.

Awesome lawn, beautiful property and sweet pool Pat!
You said you water everyday during the drought, can you do a video about that and share your experience with frequent watering?
Everyone says deep and infrequent but I’m not buying that lol

@@PrincessCutLawnCare Hi George! Thank You for the compliment! I have been watering every day because of the lack of rain and also because of the extreme temperatures over the last few weeks. My lawn is 100% KBG. the root system with KBG is shallow. KBG is also very thatchy. When the temperatures are extreme deep and infrequent just doesn’t work. Watering is definitely a controversial subject with lawns. If I water deep and infrequent when temps are pushing 100 degrees like it has for the last few weeks I have many areas that start showing that it needs water. The grass gets this gray look to it when it needs water. Kind of like being a tell tale sign that it’s about to go dormant. The problem then becomes looking out for disease. Just a little thatch in the lawn will promote disease when watering every day. It’s a very fine line trying to keep KBG a nice green lush color during the extreme heat of the summer. If I start to see any disease I back off water for a day or two on the area showing a little disease and it recovers pretty quickly. I’ll think about how I could put it in a video and do one. I’m sure I’ll get killed with a lot of comments on how I’m doing it wrong. 😂 But really you have to learn what works and what doesn’t for your own situation. For me watering everyday in the heat works.

If I don't water everyday in this heat my cool season grass will die. It's already struggling as it is. Infrequent watering will destroy the lawn during these temps. Infrequent watering does work for me in the early spring.
