  • The Toyota Qualis marked the Japanese manufacturer’s very first shot at the Indian passenger car market and was an instant success when it launched in Jan 2000. A more refined, comfortable and better built alternative to the Tata Sumo and Mahindra Armada the Qualis established Toyota’s reputation for quality, durability and reliability. In fact so well built was the Qualis that nearly two decades since it ceased production the Qualis is still a familiar sight on our roads.
On episode 13 of Gone But Not Forgotten editor Sirish Chandran drives the last Toyota Qualis to be delivered in the city of Pune. This is the facelift that was launched in 2003 and continued till the model was discontinued in 2005 to make way for the Innova.

Father Owned a Toyota Qualis in 2000. Was the 68th qualis to be registered in India. We had the first variant of GS which had power steering, a clock and a rear ac, and three row seats, that’s it.
The central window were sliding type like a bus and not winding.
But it was a level up from the Sumo which we owned earlier, and was quite a leap in quality,😊

My qualis is 22 years old. 4 lack kilometres done and the engine is still going strong, 2 timing belt changes , suspension, clutch and some ac compressor repair. Everything is 22 years old and still working even the Central lock and rear whipper, and the maintenance is still the cheapest amongst 4 more cars we own. everyone loves our qualis to bits and pieces because we've grown from kids to adults in this thing ❤️. Sadly Toyota doesn't make cars like these anymore!

@@rahulkrish9840 I believe today's economy companies want to sell more and more, and the way they can do that is when their old products gets damaged early on. Also Beacuse of this mentality of consumers us to buy cheap, and this forces the companies to use cheap materials and not long term quality.

@@rahulkrish9840 Sirish said in the video that the Qualis had a 2.4 litre (naturally aspirated) diesel with very comfortable tune. This makes sure that the engine is not stressed and ensures longevity.

There's still a Qualis in our locality and a Mitsubishi Pajero from that era. These cars just keep going on and on 😌.
Anyway fun fact : I used to hide under a purple Toyota Qualis while playing hide and seek as a kid in our housing society, literally lay down beneath the underbody, the car never leaked from down below even after taking all the abuse Indian roads dish out. 🤣 Anyway I never got caught when I hid under it.😜😌😆🤣
This video brought me back those crazy memories of childhood 😅.Thanks Mr sirish chandran 🙌😌
Anyway I would love to see a Gone but not forgotten video on the 3 generation of Corolla in India and the misunderstood car that was the Etios and Etios liva . You want a car that gets the job done? You want a car that's hassle free? You want a car that literally no one will ever compliment you on? Well look no further.
    The Toyota Qualis.
    Let's talk about features.
    Bluetooth: nope
    Sunroof: nope
    Fancy wheels: nope
Rear view camera: nope...but it's got a transparent rear window and you have a fucking neck that can turn.
Let me tell you a story. One day my Qualis started making a strange sound. I didn't give a shit and ignored it. It went away. The End.
You could take the engine out of this car, drop it off the Howrah Bridge, fish it out of the water a thousand years later, put it in the trunk of the car, fill the gas tank up with Coca cola, turn the key, and this would fucking start right up.
This car will outlive you, it will outlive your children, it will outlive your 5 generations.
Things this car is old enough to do:
    Vote: yes
    Consent to sex: yes
Rent a car: it IS a car
This car's got history. It's seen some shit. People have done straight things in this car. People have done gay things in this car. It's not going to judge you like a fucking Ambassador would.
Interesting facts: This car's exterior color is gray, but it's interior color is grey. In the owner's manual, oil is listed as "optional." When this car was unveiled in the Jan 2000, it caused all 3,000 attendees to spontaneously yawn. The resulting abrupt change in air pressure inside the building caused a partial collapse of the roof. Four people died. The event is chronicled in the documentary "Bored to Death: The Story of the Toyota Qualis”
Let's face the facts, this car isn't going to win any beauty contests, but neither are you. Stop lying to yourself and stop lying to your wife. This isn't the car you want, it's the car you deserve: The fucking Toyota Qualis.

It sometimes isn't not worth for a manufacturer to bring a platform to the modern norms. They have a lot of research to justify whether a model should be continued or not.

My uncle even today owns a Qualis FS her was an automobile who had worked on Toyota at Kirloskar Motors. He was the first person ever to get a 4 wheeler license almost 22 years back. He never used to allow us to go nearby it, He had bought it from a customer who has transmission problem for just 4 lakhs after 2 years he reworked the gearbox and somehow got it replaced from a senior technician. And then he cranked up the engine to 91 Hp. After getting a job i got my first salary me and my uncle brought an advanced suspension kit. We always keep updating. Even today only me and my uncle go for long drives on weekends. Thats how our love story is still alive. I own a Honda Civic and He owns a Nissan but Qualis is and will be our first love

I guess the real reason the Qualis front seat didn't slide much is it was built for the Japanese who aren't as tall as Indians. That's why someone at 5.6" or 5.7" found it comfortable.

In my college days (2000 - 2003) I sat in a Qualis that had Captain seats in the middle row and the first thing I noticed was how easily my friend could turn this "massive" vehicle with just one hand. 😁 The drive was from Coonoor (TN43) to Coimbatore (TN37,38,66) 😁 Plush interiors for the time and the suspension was so soft. At the time I thought I was priviliged.... I still think so. 🤟

I have travelled thousands of kms. by this Quallis SUV, this vehicle competitors are Tata SUMO,and Mahindra Scorpio, but Quallis engine is very much refined, silent and low maintainance cost. I do not why Toyota has discontinued Quallis. Innova & Fortuner are not that much refined/ silent engines.

Make a video on the most iconic sub 4 meter iconic TATA indigo cs ls 2010
As it was the first live for all the cab aggregators and was a huge Employement generator
As well as it was the cheapest sedan
Till the date I own a TATA indigo cs ls BS-iii and I can bet you for thousands that no dzire or and of the segment can overcome in terms of its initial pickups and power
Still the maintainance cost is less as well as the fuel efficiency is just mind blasting
I will never ever be selling my car as we saw ages together it’s been 13 years and she’s still one of my favourite sedan 🎉🎉❤❤
