Having grown up in a defence family, Gypsies were pretty much regular traffic everywhere I went. I've seen it being used for roles that no other car could ever dream of doing. The fleets were a mix of old and new vehicles. You can actually see almost every iteration of the gypsy still running about in camps. Bulletproof Reliability. Comfort was never an option but their off road capability is the stuff of legends. Also, daily driving one was known to be a good substitute for gym routines 😂
A Punjab Police officer, veteran of the insurgency (unfortunate time for Punjab), was quite nostalgic about the Gypsy. Could take it into the sugarcane fields, places where almost no other vehicle could go and if it would get stuck at any point, "4 lads could lift it up and out."
my grandfather worked in the government sector, he was given a gypsy. it was the very first car that made me love cars. i always loved riding around in it. later he got the hard top version with the 1.3 engine, i learned to drive on that. i currently have a bolero, but if i manage to save some more money, i would definitely find a gypsy again. its not comfortable, refined, or easy to drive, but it has its own vibe
I love the way Sirish gives review of the car. " 5 years and they did not have time to retune the engine" LOL. This was the best statement. I wish to go off road once with him.
There is no need to retune it to make it a high performance engine. Off-road and you need an extremely reliable rugged simple engine This fits the description
Sirish - your enthusiasm is so infectious!! I had two Gypsies - both with the "breadbox" hardtop - and with Hella additional lights fitted. I remember in the monsoon rains water coming out of places I didn't imagine water could get to in the windscreen frame and near the speakers. But I absolutely loved them both, though I found the original 410 was more reliable than the 413 "Gypsy King" (got one of the earliest ones). Spent most of the time in the mountains with them.
Review obviously will be the best because it is Sirish Sir's video but omg the editing....it is soo good. The sounds they added when the pictures change with that bg music....gave me goosebumps, specially when sir explains old iconic cars.
Gypsy=Memories of Rally Rally Rally all around Coimbatore,Still owning a 2018 brand new from Showroom with all Gizmos in Stock Condition and Enjoying it.Thanks to Sirish Sir for this Beautiful Vlog.
Great review as always, thank you! Memories of Gypsy! We had two gypsies in the family when I was growing up. Both were MG410s. The memories that I have are the amazing off road capabilities the Gypsy had, which is common to all who have sat in a Gypsy. But the special memories were the quietness of the engine where one had to prod the accelerator pedal at the signal just to make sure that the engine was running! Another not so nice memory was the petrol fumes that used to enter the cabin through the rear! Now they are gone with the new MPFI engine. I was a big fan of the Gypsy and always wanted to own my own Gypsy. So finally in 2018 I got a chance to buy on army disposal Gypsy in a good condition. Bought it from Bhopal and drove it down to Mumbai! I still have it. I feel that Jimmy cannot replace the Gypsy. It just does not have the charm that the Gypsy has. And don't forget the soft top which can be taken off and one can have lots of fun. You mentioned that the gearing is low, but I have hit 75 kmph in the second gear several times. To sum it up, Jimmy is a very capable off roader but not a replacement for Gypsy! Gypsy rules!
Sirish - thank you! Your expertise, experience and enthusiasm are so contagious and refreshing change from the mechanical mono-tone reviews. You don’t care about being politically correct or to please the manufacturers and that’s what makes your reviews so real and easy to identify with. Loved every min of this 30 min video! Great job, keep it up. Really hit the ball out of the park with this one. Awesome!
Tempted to buy now after your review. It's lot more practical than big SUVs on narrow hilly roads, and to get one out of trouble when 4*4 is really needed.
I have euro3 army auction gypsy, last week i have searched for the gearbox mounting, the price of the mounting hiked from rs 120 to 1100, the mgp dealer said the mounting of jimny and gypsy is same, after march 2023 new batch of gbmount comes with new Price!!!
Sirish sir, the wide grin you were wearing while talking about the Gypsy’s dashboard, I just loved it!!!! I just turned 21, donot yet have any memories with the gypsy, but will surely do soon. My first is gonna be a gypsy for sure. It’s the first love of a 6year old kid!!!❤❤ lovely video. Was smiling throughout!😊
I was eagerly waiting for the Jimny in the Indian market. I had never wanted to buy a Maruti for the last few years but this is something that I wanna have for myself

Reminds me of my dads green govt gypsy that i fell in love with in kohima in 1986. I got a chance to drive one in chennai for about a year some time back and would look for odd mud patches or sand dunes or big construction sites to try out the 4 wheel drive!. Awesome vehicle. Sirish brought out every old boys dream to life...! Great review.
A well compiled video. They way the Jimny gobbled up the off-road obstacles had me impressed. And yes Sirish’ rally achievement deserves a special mention. Clocking the second fastest time to finish even after hitting so many roadblocks. Very impressive 👏👏
Two in One Review! - The Gypsy and the Jimny. Beautiful Video.. Hats Off! The Jimny will rock the market in India, Only Tata and Mahindra can come close.
No review like Shirish’s. Awesome coverage of the key issues for a compact SUV. Good to see Suzuki had brought in the car without too many changes unlike their other ones, where they replaced strong bodies with tin cans.
Excellent Review. Was waiting for this. You seem to be in love with the Gypsy more than anything else 😊. After owning 2 Gypsy Kings, I would say the Jimny is a perfect successor. If they price it well, I might think about it. Thar is good but the Jimny is light and nimble, same like the Gypsy.
In 2005, When I was 10yrs I told my uncle oneday I'll get one gypsy. He laughed at me and said "You..? First see if you can get a car in your lifetime" considering my father financial position at that time. In 2024, I have Civic, Gurkha and a cute Nano in my garrage..❤😅
What i understood from the t nail, gypsy is still more pleasing to the eye and better looking . Tho Jimny isn't bad at all. This is the best example of how you cannot go wrong with minimal , simple lines, circles and boxy shape.
Great fun review. When I was a kid in the 90s, if anyone asked me what case will you but when you grow up, it was always Gypsy. I guess that’s why my love for off-road cars is intrinsic.

Loved this video. Excellent one 👍. Just one wish remained unfulfilled - wanted to see it go up an incline, an incline like the one where you did the downhill test.
Good review, I own a two door here in Australia. The one thing I’d disagree with you about is the gearbox, the auto has a hard time deciding what gear to be in, almost seems like an old auto gearbox. The manual is heavier than a swift but I feel it’s the pick, plus manual has better fuel efficiency. Good work on your review mate ❤
Hey, glad to hear you liked the video Ryan! And you have valid points there about the gearbox. However considering that the Jimny would be mostly driven in urban areas here, the AT makes more sense. The MT ofcourse is more engaging.
Well done review from the perspective of an ardent Gypsy fan. Its a well built offroader that you can live with on a day to day basis. Obviously there are shortcomings in terms of space and a more powerful engine with a 6 speeds auto transmission would have done wonders; but the key point that remains to be seen is the crash performance of the shell. Hoping this is priced right.
Would you pick the Jimny over a Mahindra Thar?
heck no
never, kei cars and proper off roaders together? please no.
Yes, if i have more city commute oriented and weekend fun preference. Otherwise, thar is still the off road king in India
Yes!!!!
Any day Jimny. Jimny is just too good.
I'll be honest. Sirish sir's review was the review i was waiting for most eagerly.

There will always be the true Gypsy “king”. Love your story mate, resonates with a lot of middle class family cars through the 80s and 90s
