bruno mars sucks
None of his high notes or whistle register? Please tell me you went deeper than this after. He's got more range than Mariah!
Sometimes I wish I could fall, hit my head, and lose all my memories so that I can experience Mike Patton for the first time again.
This.
yes
Look up dog fashion disco.
Ah well said and completely agree!!
First time I saw Mike Patton was in 1992 with Mr. Bungle, Detroit. Blown away, never recovered.
Mike Patton is a bloody legend, and the guy always has like 5 projects going at once. Great choice...
Andrew Hussey and yet all the bands were garbage. Maybe shoulda tried one.
@jakeybball Faith No More is no garbage. Nor is Mr. Bungle. Mr. Bungle may not have wide commercial appeal, but who gives a fuck about that?
Mike Patton is God
+1. Great choice. Great singer. Absolute legend.
go on ipecac site the new project seems great
The guy has a 6+ octave range, Eb1-E7, can rap, sing, scream, beatbox, sing in a few different languages and he uses processors to put weird effects on his vocals to use it like as an instrument. He is a bloody genius and you need to more of him
Yes. A bloody genius is still a great description 👍
One of the most underrated male vocalists or our time. Should be top 20 in any rock singer rankings. So versatile, so dynamic and powerful. Too bad Faith No More disbanded that early and rarely cared about doing mainstream. Same with Mike Patton and his many projects.
Beast of a singer, literally
@@danilolapierre5610 he is in my top five. Maybe layne, Ronnie James, Robert plant, I’ll leave the 5th for versatility
What you think are electric guitars and drums, are actually Michael Patton as well.
Fun fact, Mike Patton does the noises for the zombies in the game 'Left 4 Dead' as well as the vocalisations for the Infected in the movie 'I Am Legend'. The guy can do anything.
Also was the voice of the Darkness in The Darkness video games.
@@qtvsfelonycharge8034 and the bionic commando himself in the 2013 game.

Mike Patton is the most versatile and creative vocalist I've heard.
Mike Patton is literally THE BEST singer ever! greetings from Finland :)
Top 3 for sure but it has to go to Layne Staley
Def Digit Gaming Best singer alive, then.
Love Patton's voice BUT even though he has an incredible vocal range his voice isn't the greatest sounding. I prefer a Chris Cornell or Layne Staley or Serj Tankian (in his prime) and so on.
@@davidpearson6346 Definitely is down to taste but Patton's voice isn't as smooth as a lot of other singers. I still love the guy though.
Hello Finland. I totally agree with you ✌🏻
Kinda owe it to your self to see some full performance of Patton.
Absolutely!!
Phoenix Festival 1993. Jim Martin's last show. Beautiful insanity.
Everyone does indeed. I even played his italian pop album for super Christian mom lol
Tomahawk's God Hates a Coward is the first thing I show people when I bring up Mike. Its so good and the live performance on YT is GOLD.

also that video lacks mike patton singing opera, african chants, whistle register is not even touched, crooning, several styles of musical theater, high screams, inhale singing, throat singing and like 10 other completely own universes of singing. MP is incredible
blazejecar - Totally agree. I've been a fan since the late '80s (of his, though you're pretty awesome yourself) and there are a dozen, or more, songs I would have added here. There was almost nothing from FNM's three biggest albums. Cheers.
I had requested this ua-cam.com/video/YtltnfPB_WI/v-deo.html to try to solve the "you don't understand his stylistic range" problem. Not aure why Beth did this other video.
@@kingbrutusxxvi Yeah she could easily do an hour long video breaking down Patton. So good!
"that video lacks mike patton singing opera, african chants, whistle register is not even touched, crooning, dracula-like singing (idk what to call it), high screams..."
... Okay, I am confused. Here's why:
1. "african chants" - When does Patton ever do this? I think you're probably referring to what he does on Goodbye Sober Day? That's called Kecak, a Balinese Monkey Chant.(ua-cam.com/video/_RC5E3rp8l0/v-deo.html). Bali is not located in Africa, btw.
2. "lacks mike patton singing opera" - When? When does he sing "opera"? Opera-esque at times, maybe? Sure. Such as Mondo Cane, perhaps (which was reviewed in this video)?
3. "whistle register is not even touched" - Not even touched, you say? He does this on 101 North, a song featured in this very video! (ua-cam.com/video/-VTAj4yiKUc/v-deo.html)
4. "crooning" - I mean... can you define crooning? Because one could make the argument that songs featured in this video contain, what some might consider, singing which resembles crooning (Evidence, Easy, Just a man, Deep Deep Down).
5. "dracula-like singing (idk what to call it)" - Alrighty.
6. " high screams" - more than one song in this video has this. The highest he's ever done EVER? No. But why does that matter?
You rattled off a bunch of random words to sound smart & you played yourself.
It's a decent intro to Patton's style, & KFAD is a great place to start.
She listens to KFAD (Get Out/Evidence/Cuckoo for Caca/Just a Man), Mr. Bungle (My As* is on Fire), FNM/Easy, General Patton (Get Up Punk), Mondo Cane (Deep Deep Down), Peeping Tom (Mojo/LoL), & Tomahawk (101 North).
Nothing wrong with using those songs as a starting point.
Mister Popo?
Mike Patton has to be one of the most talented singers on the planet. His range is incredible and his ability to make sounds that don't sound human is mind boggling. My all time favorite singer.
"What an interesting person." Yep, that's an excellent way to describe Mr. Patton xD
I could make the argument that he's the best singer rock ever had.
He’s the best vocalist in any genre.
Best of all time, there's no one even close to what this beast can fo
The science would say you're correct.
Him and Danny Boone!
Ronnie James Dio is the better singer of rock of all time, Dio was clearly much most powerful, efortless and most consistent; Dio and Steve Perry was far superior the Patton.
“He’s like Bruno Mars know!” Biggest compliment mars could ever get!! So much more than anyone ever!! Patton is the man
I'm obsessed with Mike Patton. A lot of people are because of his brilliant vocals and the projects he takes on. He's a musical genius.
Been a fan since 1989. I couldnt agree with you more!
One of the great things about Mike is, he doesn't just sing, he plays his vocals like an instrument
Mr Bungle- Disco Volante is a great album that shows that
Edit: syntax cos I forget how to English when I drink
He's got a whole album with nothing but him doing weird vocal noises
He has several if you include the Fantômas discography too.
I had to import that album. It cost me a pile of money and I felt like he trolled me.
Still love Patton though
That album is 'Mike Patton - Adult Themes for Voice.' My friends and I met Mike before a Mr Bungle show in 1999 to get some autographs. A friend had Adult Themes for Voice and when he handed it to Mike, Mike said "You bought this?! Why did you buy this?!" True story!

Everything from Mr. Bungle to Lovage, handsome boy modeling school, tomahawk, faith no more and fantomas and his solo stuff. Each are all so different and incredible in there own right. He will forever be my favorite vocalist of all time. Thanks for the video, anytime I can drool over Mr. Patton is time well spent 😉
Same, Alexis! My 16th birthday present was tickets to see FNM open for Billy Idol right before The Real Thing went huge. It's still one of the best memories I have as a teen. I always try to explain to my husband that FNM was my Nirvana before Nirvana.

Psh YEARS. I always think ive heard it all and just keep finding more and more projects hes done lol
Mike patton seriously has one of the best voices in the world, such an insane range
mike patton is a freak of nature. a once in a lifetime talent. barry sanders of vocal skills, michael jordan of song. Davinnci of painting a picture with a voice. greatest singer of my generation and he still stands 30 years later, no one comes close.
You should listen to his cover of the Bee Gee's I Started A Joke, it's simply vocally perfect. I knew heard such a talented singer, he can sing pretty much everything but unlike most people, he actually sang pretty much anything. He has a very very varied career and tried so many different stuff over the years. It's like he's a bunch of different singers trapped in one sole body!
All you need is Angel Dust.
Whomever compiled original vid just totally missed the true dynamic of Pattons' voice instrument.
And with correct live performance, you can get all within one song.
all you need for Mike Patton's genius is to watch the live cover of Poker Face. It's like he's swallowed a record player and scratching with his tonsils.
Even Dead Cross is an awesome & the most recent example of his abilities.

Angel Dust is a great album. It's truly amazing what those guys did on that record. But Angel Dust is not "all you need". It's not the beginning & the end of Patton's creativity. Far from it.
The little "rawr" you put at the end of your intro is so adorable! It gets me every time.
I can never get enough of Mike Patton!! The first Mr. Bungle album truly runs the gambit of what his voice capable of.
Land of sunshine. He swings into an opera like tones. Love it
Mr. Bungle is where he shows more range. He's so underrated.
No. No, he's not. He is literally the highest-rated singer in popular music, as in there was actually a study done on vocal ranges and he placed number one.
@@Corn_Pone_Flicks go to a random grocery store and ask around. See how many people know him without mentioning his bands. You won’t find many. Go to those same people and ask if they know Freddy Mercury or even Bruno Mars. They will. That’s what the commenter meant. Just because one publication did a study that shows he’s a beast doesn’t mean that the general public cares or gives him recognition. He most certainly overrated. Don’t you think the guy with the largest range should be pretty unanimously known?

Thank you Beth, Mike is one of the best singers ever. I smashed like button
This video does not even scratch the surface of what he can do vocally. He has an album called Mondo Cane where he sings italian opera with an orchestra and rock band. He has the most vocal range of any singer alive or dead. He is the God of music.
Well, not compared to Dimash Kudaibergen. He has the widest USABLE range. Sounds beautiful through 4 1/2 octaves (and can go higher). Mike Patton has a slightly wider ranger of sounds, but not as much pitch range or "purity" in his sound (which is not necessary, but just being technical about it).
You guys need some Yma Sumac in your life

@@stepawayfromthewindo but in such a short snippet though. I would have but in clips from '"were not alone" by peepimg tom where he switches from sounding like a female r and b singer to screaming back and forth...gives you a better idea than some of the whisper/talking clips in this video. But he has sooooo many side projects and tracks he has collabbed on that i stand by my original statement, this video barely scratches the surface of his ability and range.
@@msiaregodz Mondo Cane is straight up in her video....yet you proceed to recommend & explain Mondo Cane, lol.

Mike Patton has been one of my all time favorites for 20 plus years. Great singer. So creative and such a range. He's defiantly talented.

More Mike Patton will always be welcome. Of the tunes in this video, "Just A Man" by Faith No More would be a wonderful one to cover (the live performance with Choral de Heliopolis is unbelievable). "Retrovertigo" by Mr. Bungle also gives a broad selection of Patton stylings in a single song, as does pretty much anything from Faith No More's Angel Dust album ("Land of Sunshine", "Caffeine", "Everything's Ruined", and so many more from that album are absolute masterpieces).

so love the physical descriptions of how the singing works! reminds me of the short time I tried to study linquistics and the understanding of phonemes relating to the mouth and the tongue. I love thinking about the ways humans have adapted their physical limitations into all manner of creative and functional applications. And, well none of that mentions the fact that we can also sound like angels (lakme flower duet anyone?) -and demons someitmes( Mike, you are an inspiration to us all!!!) when singing. ( also love the notion of thinking of the mouth and nasal cavity like any other instrument, that is when you think of how certain frequencies resonate through the instrument. so damn cool!!! your so talented and a great teacher/coach on all of this stuff)) thanks for this!!!
There's also so much more!! Listen to the Mr Bungle album "California", it's incredible. Great react!

I saw Faith no More in Milan , ten years ago. I was impressed from his powerful voice. The most relevant aspect is that Mike is a great "interpreter"
,
he has the capacity to identify himself in every song, in every genre. His voice is like an instrument. 99% of singer has their vocal "image" that never change in years. Mike seems like not to be satisfied to be identified, he his always searching for something new. This is his best characteristic. Mike Patton is the Cenzontle, that's the explanation, baby, do not get complicated. number one. perfect technical execution
Not only is he talented...He's a legit maniac, totally crazy! Watch some of his interviews.
Interviews and his shows.... he is nuts, in a fantastic way. I saw security manhandle him on his way back to the stage after crowd surfing (and he is a very small guy - I'm 5'3"/5'4" and was eye to eye with him playing pinball - long story) and they were shoving him so hard and ended up dropping him from over their heads, hard on his ribs, onto the support bars of the security barricade before they realized he had the f*kn mic in his hand and he continued on like nothing happened. He's amazing.
