don't forget the symbolism of breaking bread with your enemies. Of course the first time we see bread is when they're seated with the orcs, and that moment really hit me in the show. It's our first instance of how Laios is able to disarm folks who are at odds with him and help unite them in his cause too
Thanks for the video, really loving the way you overlapped both takes and repeatedly compared them. I really wanted to do that in mind at the time of watching the episode 😅
Yeah I agree that it was probably intentional. Marcille strikes me as someone who feels the need to put on airs of being a rule follower because part of her is one but in other ways she breaks them but wants to be consistent. Marcille is shocked he's breaking the rules but doesn't actually think it's wrong she just feels like she SHOULD uphold the law.
@@LilyCat2399 Same side of her shown when the group later on ends up taking some barley from dead adventurers. Laios and Chilchuck expect Marcille to freak out over it because it's immoral but she's really quickly just goes "what's done is done".
This channel is a really nice find. I came here because Delicious in Dungeon (you know FYI Breaking Bad is an incredibly stupid show title too that eventually grows on you) is my favorite show in a long time but I also love all the things this channel is teaching me about the animated process. My brain knows nothing about animation or cinematography and it’s fun to learn about something that well….essentially makes you feel lost in a brand new dungeon thanks. 🙏
Love your usage of the episodes footage to buttress jokes in this. Using the orc pointing at the map when you were asking something is really fun. Glad to have another breakdown from you!
Another great video! I agree that if some chapters had to be put on screen with minimal animation, these chapters were good candidates. A part of me had hoped they would adapt that hilarious extra comic with Laios and the Orc’s wives, but alas. I also understand why it wasn’t integrated, as it didn’t really fit anywhere very naturally.
So if there's a scene w a rotating room/dungeon floor then we know we have the rubik cube association member to thank lolol Wonderful analysis it's bringing a whole new appreciation to the slower eps
Honestly, this episode was so simple I was afraid you wouldn't even make this video! Turns out its simplicity was the theme of you breakdown, lol. I really enjoy these, I hope you continue for the rest of the season!
The music carried this episode for me,senshi part was 🪨 solid and that orc child is way cuter than he was in the manga 😻,cant wait for the 🐎x shampoo 🧴 ep
I'm actually starting to look forward to your reviews as much as I look forward to the episodes!! Also, question. Do you watch Freiren? Your expert analysis of that show would be appreciated.
Thanks! I am watching it, it's really great, but I'm kinda far behind at the moment - maybe I'll make a video about it at some point depending how my schedule works out!
I only read the first volume of the manga, so I'm really enjoying your analysis of what's changed or kept the same, why, and how! ❤ (Though your analysis vids have me wanting to get back into the manga, too!)
ive been looking forward to ur little vids about each episode almost as much as the episodes themselves. ur thoughts are all very well phrased and i like the comparisons w the chapters since i havent re-read dungeon meshi yet i just read it as it was coming out. iirc i first discovered ur channel from the 1st episode breakdown being posted on tumblr? im glad i took the time to check it out you do great work
Contrary to Frieren (I love the manga, but its really static), I'm kinda picky with Dungeon Meshi adaptation, going from simple things, like the mushroom smack from EP1 looking less powerful than in the manga, to more complex things, like the graphical re interpretation of the living armor part (that episode is "choose which version you like more" or "here, have a different version of the same thing", there's no one better than the other, they are just two different versions). Ep 4 felt more faithful to the source material.
I'm an animator. Yes, we must put X on the more ambiguous part of the drawings that should noted as empty space, not only in Keys but every animated frame in general. This is tricky to the Colorist who would based all the colors on a Static Color Model sheet. Scene where the hair is flowing, since this would drawings of many outlines of the strands and body of the hair, we must indicate that between these two lines is empty space, since they are two hair strands just flowing and not a swath of hair body. Or another example the guys cape has a small hole, we must differentiate it if it flow against the wind that it's a hole and we can see the BG and not the color of his body.
Something I find weird about this episode is the orc's teeth. why does the upper canine curve up and out? the lower canine jutting out makes sense but why the upper? what biological decision justifies this?
She always does, she can use her own hair as charms against ghost possessions so she explain in a later chapter while she prepares some soap that good hair care is important for magic users.
Thanks for another good analysis. This ep was not as interesting as the previous one, but I'm still loving it. Funniest part was definitely chilchuk hanging off of senshi and shaking him, haha. Definitely would not have noticed things like the drop of sauce on the tortilla without you pointing it out, so thanks for that
9:50 yes. That’s what I love about animation, specifically Trigger animation. Highly stylistic, amazing character aesthetics (which blend well with the manga’s already great designs).
Yeah I would rather have it faithfully adapted than having their own spin in interpreting the panel because every detail in the story is connected to its world building. Changing one detail in itself would completely warp the story the manga is conveying.
IMO I think that this episode was pretty average, which is okay! Not every episode needs to have mappa levels of animation or fighting, and it was really interesting to hear about the history between orcs and humans and elves. One thing that I wish Trigger did though was animate Senshi's moustache bobbing up and down when he was talking. Scenes where it's just him speaking feel kind of static. But maybe not animating it fits his all-business attitude better? idk
I actually saw an interesting take from TBSkyen on this - Senshi is solid and relatively static for the most part when talking, except when he's giving a lecture, at which point his whole bod bobs up and down in his excitement to impart information

Lowkey, Senshi 100% wears that sun hat for the aesthetics
👍 for Bread

I wish they included that pannel gag where one of the orcs took the chicken from the pen by the neck while chilchuck was sweating about it.
Oh yeah 😆
? they did though...

Also, we were robbed of another senshi fanservice, as he scaled the golems from a regular, albeit cool I admit, camera angle

That's how boar's teeth work in real life. The teeth rubbing together sharpens them
Cuz those are tusks, is just like how boars have them
Dose anyone know why the elf girl changed hairstyles?
the author of the series enjoys giving Marcille different hairstyles :) expect more cute Marcille hairstyles in the future
