  • Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! These repair magnets snapped together with a CLACK!, drawing blood from Dan Erlewine's fingers just as he was about to show his gizmo for avoiding pinched fingers and separating stacked magnets!
Also, Dan explains a radical bracing change on an original Earthwood acoustic bass guitar.

Listening to Dan never gets old. I have no interest in playing acoustic bass but I love watching these videos!

The information in these videos, about tools, techniques, etc. is extraordinary; and one of the results of seeing it is to wish that I could hear the instrument that was being repaired. Just 10 or 12 seconds would be enough.

Just have to thanks and I hope you have a terrific 2014 Dan. You share your knowledge so freely, it is a real gift to the many of us who know just how dang clever you are.
I love solving problems myself, but Im equally at ease using ideas when they come from hard born experience and just plain make sense. Your videos are always enlightening, and always entertaining as well, so again thanks a bunch for all the great knowledge you pass on to us hobbyist, such as myself or the profesional; luthiers as well.

Never had a problem getting magnets a part, I use a flat head screw driver carefully, my Dad showed me how to do it when I was 8 I think, real simple and quick, the flat head is slid slowly and carefully between the magnets.

Pure magic. Playing guitar great or fixing a guitar great. Both l could watch for hours since l do both fairly weak.

Dan - is there any way we could just transfer everything you know into my brain - maybe via a USB-type cable or something you could devise?
I've been around a lot of luthiers and repairmen over the years - I don't believe I've ever seen anywhere near the ingenuity you give us in these short videos. Thank you for sharing.

Do you think that changing size of bridge pad will change sound a little or more than little?
How the sound quality will be affected, if the same technique is used to prevent belly rise in acoustic guitar?

A little dab of superglue on that cut would stop the bleeding and you wouldn't have to deal with trying to work with a band-aid hindering your touch/feel.

Realize first that you're dumping terrible cyanoacrylate and other chemicals directly into your body and bloodstream when you do that. I used to work in a restaurant where all the girls did this regularly. Makes me cringe for their future. Thank your kidneys for the hard work they do the next time you can.

@@likestoparty Doctors and medics have been doing this for decades. I have personally done it myself and have had no problems.
