Now that he's gone - his songs take on even greater emotion. Its so sad. All I can say is - I wish I had discovered him sooner in life. I'm 65 now - I can usually listen to his guitar picking for hours. Its practically magical.
I’ve been listening to John and his wonderful story telling songs since that first album Paradise, my only regret is I never got to go see him live. I was hoping to do that this year but sadly and devastatingly he passed, I lost a true friend who I’ve never met or held a conversation with but his music and songs are ingrained in my soul and how I look at things as John had a very unique view on life and such great perception of the human condition. God bless you John, I bet you and old pal Steve Goodman are banging out Souvenirs for the great angel band high on that mountain:) There will never be another quite like John .
John dying was the only time I've ever cried upon hearing that any musician had passed away. He was a national treasure and his music will go on to provide comfort, insight, sadness, and laughter to open ears for the rest of time. I had the honor of seeing him as my birthday gift for my 22nd and 24th. I turned 26 last year and was planning on continuing the tradition, but sadly it wasn't meant to be.
