I am a 60 year old white male and have been involved with youth athletics for 30 plus years. Black men and black fathers are great fathers and role models for black kids. They are disproportionately more involved in coaching and helping develop character in young men of all races than any other group. They do it in spite of the hardships and broken family's perpetuated by the marriage/divorce industrial complex.

@@orcaunoo Probably because of the shaming aspect of women trying to get men to mentor. When a woman gets on and says that men need to stop being dusty, zesty, sassy and mentor her kids, men tend to back away. Questioning a dude's manhood used to work. Now we're on to that game and turn away.
Also, there used to be a time when you found a person that could teach him a vocation. Make him an apprentice to someone. Not just find a random black dude he could hang out with on a weekend.

@@orcaunoo I’m happy to mentor, my rate is 250/hr. I think the issue is these people expecting people like me to give up my time and resources for absolutely nothing in return. So in the end, I lose out doing what I want so someone who doesn’t do a thing for me can benefit. My advice to any man reading this is to leave these strong independent people alone to be just that: strong and independent. Have your own family and make sure they get ahead by pouring into them and their friends.

For the record, my little brother’s father was a jailbird just like his mother’s other baby daddies (4 in total). Reckless and irresponsible? Absolutely. But for the grace of God, I could’ve been born into this situation and not that of a loving, stable family headed by a Strong Black father. I’m actually in full agreement with most everything you stated. I guess the only difference being, I don’t think we should deprive these sons coming up in dysfunctional Baby Momma culture of our guidance, wisdom or support where we CAN help them. It sounds like Guys are equating Mentorship with Stepfathering or fighting a Baby Momma for coparenting- neither of which I was called to do OR put up with. Nor would I. I mentor an 8 year old black boy. I see him once a month and we work on his unresolved trauma caused by his problematic father. Honestly, I don’t recommend this to black men because it’s a lot to unpack. It’s not hard physically, but mentally you’re having to teach someone that was taught improperly. It’s a double edge sword for the child.

I've wanted to start a mentoring program to teach black boys that reading and speaking the English language is cool. I want to help close that grade-level reading gap. But after that Dr. Umar overtalking interview, I lost hope. They better be careful what they wish for because us good black men might have your boys asking you hard-hitting questions, "Why didn't you marry dad? What is his side of the story?" etc.

Allow me to give you the names of a few black men and the number of their kids. This is public information by the way:
Desmond Hatchett - 30 kids by 11 women
Orland Shaw - 22 kids by 14 women
Jay Williams - 34 kids by 17 women
John Hearring - 43 kids by 30 women
Terry Turnage - 23 kids by 17 women
Richard Colbert - 25 kids by 18 women
This is 6 black men who produced 177 children with 107 black women. Yet people like Umar will say this is all black men's fault. How so? How is it all black men's fault that black women allowed 6 men to cause this much damage?

It’s astonishing that you’d expect the men you rejected to mentor your sons while at the same time raising your daughters to reject those kind of men and expect the whole thing to just work out. No man who has any self worth would even want to be a part of this. He’d rather do his part by eventually finding a wife and building his own family and raising the very men that are needed instead. I’m lost for words honestly. The entitlement is something else.

In some states like Texas, if you do fatherly things for a woman's kids, you can be sued for child support. Even if the kids are not your kids. For some men, mentorship might be a child support trap.

    • @grandcanyon2
      @grandcanyon2 28 днів тому

They even sneak these things in common law marriage, now if you date a single mother they state may come after youf or childsupport. If said women lives with you and your not married the state may give said women your house or car or property and say its in the best interst of the children, along with child support for children not yours. Other cuntries in eruope of similar laws but even worse, look at france.
The law says in france the courts and government decides who is a father not paterney not dna testing, and if you do dna testing outside france and return you may be arrested and sent to prison.

even aside from the “dating a single mother tip”… I was a mentor in my old neighborhood… them kids refused listening to me. The kids looked up to the drug dealers and thugs in the neighborhood. Those kids go home to horrible situations and teachings as well . One guy I worked with would glorify his burglary and robbing ninjas on the street days to his oldest son; guess what his son wound up being? The same kids I was paying to play basketball in a league, broke into my home. Bro, mind the business of your life all the way around the board. Kids who want to be mentored will come to you and ask and hang around for no reason. That’s how you determine whether or not to take on a mentorship.
